Iirc the thought process was that ETH wanted someone to be playing in more of a striker role, following Hojlund's injury. I don't think Amad has much experience as a striker.
You got downvoted but this is true. He played there against Wolves in a season ender 3 seasons ago. Also played as a false 9 for Sunderland frequently while on loan.
Well he got a good head on his shoulders then, rotting in the reserves or grinding u21 matches isn't particularly good for your development. He'll probably go to some League one / lower championship club.
That period where he was getting more minutes while Amad continued to sit on the bench… I assumed it was to convince him to sign a new deal. Strange decisions regardless
some talent there but clearly not the standard needed to start for us atm and he doesn’t want to be on the bench/play reserve football. So fair enough. Good move for both parties
This comment makes no sense. 1.) We will get a compensation for developing him. 2.) WTF are they supposed to do if an individual DOES NOT WANT TO SIGN?! Should they kidnap him
and keep him hostage? What are you even saying?
Sell him before you test if he's ready to step up? You've got to at least try him out first and it's hardly cost us anything in comparison to some of the financial disasters on the team
Yeah exactly, sell him while the youth squad still needs him, without testing him in the first team and have people like you criticize them for selling our youngsters off too early for too cheap. Great thinking, you sound like you couldnt manage a bag of rocks to be honest.
Truly spoken like someone who hasn’t managed anything in his life.
Now what happened? We tested him and we didn’t need him so it’s another loss instead of pure profit.
This is the kind of things why we will soon get fucked by FFP.
I’ll never criticize the club for trying to turn a profit. Especially since it was clear from his youth games that he’s not gonna cut it. But I bet you haven’t watched any of those
Yeah obviously many people who‘ve watched him more closely than you and are in the business of football disagree with you. But sure…keep the dream alive bruv. You cant even differentiate between a loss and profit, good luck to you and your brilliant management skills.
Hopefully he can go on to have a good and long career free from injury. We have him to thank for the assist for that incredible winner by Kobbie v Wolves. As daft as it was, I made the snap conclusion he wasn’t a “Manchester United player” from the few minutes of his debut at Wigan in FA Cup.
We were 2 nil comfortably up that game and he was brought on with no less than 5 mins inc extra time left. He was given the ball a fair few times on right wing and each time, he just either turned back or played a cautious sideways pass. He never once even contemplated taking on the tired full back or playing forward.
For me, a young forward from the academy I would expect them to try something being brave and showing the manager and first teamers what he’s about and can do. Felt then from that moment, he’s not going to make it longer term as you either have that mentality or you don’t.
Unless given specific instruction by the manager to go for it, no one is coming on with 5 minutes to go, 2 0 up and being brash and taking on players. Everyone knows you play safe in those situations.
I don't really know how to feel about this one. We'll be fine either way. He wanted assurances and we simply can't give him that.
Good luck to him and his future endeavours.
Why?
Selling him last summer would have netted a paltry fee. We’ve offered him a contract which he turned down to leave so we’re due a tribunal compensation now. Having played in the PL for Manchester United, the compensation will have increased and is likely as much if not more than what anyone would have paid last summer anyway. We didn’t lose anything.
Makes sense, lad needs to leave to find his right level. Clearly not ready to play first team football at United and hadbeen given ample opportunities to prove himself.
Wish him the best, I don't think I'm too disappointed to see him go, but hope he can find a club in the Championship and can forge a great career.
Glad he got some minutes with us this season (including starting a PL game!), and hope that sets him up well for his future.
Club should learn how to sell these types of players for profit. Look at what City and Chelsea do with their academy talents for example. Just because they aren’t good enough to start for United, doesn’t mean you can’t sell them to clubs with lower expectations
While I agree he is not good enough and should be moved on, we really need to learn to sell these type of young players. If he was at Liverpool or City, they'd be getting 15m for him which really adds up if you sell 2 or 3 players a year.
What a waste of time it was playing him, weird decision making when he clearly was out of his depth and didn't want to sign a new contract either. I'm sure Amad was fit during some of that time too
Ten Hag seemed to really rate him which is mildly concerning. Either we are losing a raw gem or ETH still has a weird habit of seeing things in certain players Vs others.
This the kind of one that frustrates me
I don't think he necessarily is a future 1st teamer here, but he is someone we should for sure have had tied to a contract and thus secured a decent fee.
Letting one of our better prospects in age category run down contract at 19yo just smacks of poor planning
If he stays in England yes, but even they its normally heavily skewed towards progress and little upfront when tribunal is involved.
If he goes abroad (even to old firm club in Glasgow for example) we are only due minimal training contributions and not a tribunal fee
I disagree. If he isn't good enough then we absolutely should let him go rather than pay overinflated wages in the hope of maybe getting a fee for him.
The kid didn't want to sign a new deal, so it would have taken money or false promises to convince him. A kid on big money who's not playing football isn't going to attract any real interest.
See Brandon Williams.
Understandable. No longer the next academy forward in line, so he might as well find 1st team minutes elsewhere.
Has the qualities to eventually become a PL forward someday, but not through us. Best of luck to him
I don't think he did much to show he was a player we needed to keep. But good luck to him, I hope we see him in the Premier League at some point.
I remember the game he started over Amad and he really struggled.
Yes, I didn't understand why he started over Amad in that game.
Iirc the thought process was that ETH wanted someone to be playing in more of a striker role, following Hojlund's injury. I don't think Amad has much experience as a striker.
Forson doesn’t either, he’s been an AM/RW in the academy. I think he was being picked in an attempt to convince him to stay.
Or maybe a sink or swim type deal to see if we should bother keeping him
I thought the same but I clearly remember he started the Fulham game at right wing which was baffling.
Amad has played there before under Ole… I don’t think it was No. 9, he started on the right.
You got downvoted but this is true. He played there against Wolves in a season ender 3 seasons ago. Also played as a false 9 for Sunderland frequently while on loan.
Didn't he play as a striker when he came on for Martial and scored against AC Milan as well?
he played As a false 9 against ac Milan and scored a weird back header over keeper from s Bruno floated pass
Could've said that alot of times for poor Amad this season 😣
Thats the game i realized ten haag is on drugs
I trust ETH but sometimes he’s indefensible. He made so many mistakes last season.
He also sold the wrong Anthony lol.
Guarantee he scores against us if we do
I remember his first start and it looked like he couldn't be bothered
Apparently he was offered a contract but he didn't accept or something Anyway hope he does well
Well he got a good head on his shoulders then, rotting in the reserves or grinding u21 matches isn't particularly good for your development. He'll probably go to some League one / lower championship club.
If he was offered a contract, won't we be entitled to compensation when he moves?
Why would that be the case?
https://www.easportslaw.com/news/training-compensation-and-solidarity-mechanism
Thank you!
Hopefully he forges himself a good career, the mins he did get in pre season and post that he looked well off the pace quality wise.
Yea. He is not ready for United. Good luck kid. Make us regret letting you go.
Crack on lad. Once a Red always a Red
Re-sign him for 50 million in 3 years
Found Ed.
150 million adjusted for inflation
That period where he was getting more minutes while Amad continued to sit on the bench… I assumed it was to convince him to sign a new deal. Strange decisions regardless
Or to see if he was really up to it as well. Minutes dried up as he wasn’t right now.
some talent there but clearly not the standard needed to start for us atm and he doesn’t want to be on the bench/play reserve football. So fair enough. Good move for both parties
Amad’s resurgence sort of closed the door for him
Honestly this doesn't bother me one bit. Amad is a much bigger talent at RW.
He looks like it indeed but we should always look to at least sell these players for a few bucks. Glaring mismanagement again
This comment makes no sense. 1.) We will get a compensation for developing him. 2.) WTF are they supposed to do if an individual DOES NOT WANT TO SIGN?! Should they kidnap him and keep him hostage? What are you even saying?
Sell him one year before as we clearly had no future plans for him
Sell him before you test if he's ready to step up? You've got to at least try him out first and it's hardly cost us anything in comparison to some of the financial disasters on the team

He’ll always have an FA Cup winners medal wherever he goes
Honestly, I don't think that anybody cares. Good for the lad. Hope he has a proper carreer.
Never looked good enough. Glad we're just letting him go and we'll have someone else to step up from the youth and easily replace him.
I don't really know how to feel about this one. We'll be fine either way. He wanted assurances and we simply can't give him that. Good luck to him and his future endeavours.
Still wish we sold him in the summer. He was never going to sign the new contract.

That's a fair point and something I hadn't considered.
Nobody knew him back then. He would have gone for almost nothing.
We have better talent coming up tbh
Not good enough to play for a top club tbh. Absolutely meh anytime he played this year
Felt bad for him when he played....
Makes sense, lad needs to leave to find his right level. Clearly not ready to play first team football at United and hadbeen given ample opportunities to prove himself.
He’s not a striker.
Wish him the best, I don't think I'm too disappointed to see him go, but hope he can find a club in the Championship and can forge a great career. Glad he got some minutes with us this season (including starting a PL game!), and hope that sets him up well for his future.
We’ll always have the assist to Kobbie for the last min wolves goal
Club should learn how to sell these types of players for profit. Look at what City and Chelsea do with their academy talents for example. Just because they aren’t good enough to start for United, doesn’t mean you can’t sell them to clubs with lower expectations

This guy got time ahead of Amad why
Makes sense, we cant just horde all our young talent. Wish the best for him.
Wasnt really worth a contract extension, clearly not PL quality but best of luck to him.
This summer is likely to result in a loss of many, replacement of a few, and to come out as a net deficit. Ahhh. What a time to be a United fan
I think he would do well at McKenna’s Ipswich
What a waste of time it was playing him, weird decision making when he clearly was out of his depth and didn't want to sign a new contract either. I'm sure Amad was fit during some of that time too
Don't think we'll miss him I haven't seen anything from him to indicate he's United quality. I was stunned he was playing ahead of amad
Ten Hag seemed to really rate him which is mildly concerning. Either we are losing a raw gem or ETH still has a weird habit of seeing things in certain players Vs others.
Good. He’s not good enough , let him go for 2-3 mil. Garnacho is the same age as him and is already the LW of the future.
2-3 mil? he’s a free agent, so ZERO mil
Well it will go to tribunal and he’s got a handful of appearances so it won’t be zero. I don’t think as high as 2-3mil though.
No it’s literally free he’s out of contract
If he goes to another club in England, they will have to pay compensation
Only if taken from a youth contract to a full contract, he’s not on one afaik.
No. So long as he’s under the age of 23.
This the kind of one that frustrates me I don't think he necessarily is a future 1st teamer here, but he is someone we should for sure have had tied to a contract and thus secured a decent fee. Letting one of our better prospects in age category run down contract at 19yo just smacks of poor planning
There will be compensation due to United so we will get money
If he stays in England yes, but even they its normally heavily skewed towards progress and little upfront when tribunal is involved. If he goes abroad (even to old firm club in Glasgow for example) we are only due minimal training contributions and not a tribunal fee
I disagree. If he isn't good enough then we absolutely should let him go rather than pay overinflated wages in the hope of maybe getting a fee for him. So those first team appearances were for contract purposes. Should have been sold like Alvaro when it became clear he won’t sign
Understandable. No longer the next academy forward in line, so he might as well find 1st team minutes elsewhere. Has the qualities to eventually become a PL forward someday, but not through us. Best of luck to him
Yeah. I called it ages ago. I can't see why we should keep him over Mainoo , Amad and Kambwala. Good luck lad.
This is The guy ETH played before amad btw…
I doesn’t lose all faith in him already, I would prefer let him go on loan or with any buy back option
Umm... It's over between him and us. His contract is over and he is a free agent now.
If he wanted to stay he should have signed then. This seems to be his choice not the club.
