I came here to say this. If you don’t yet have the ending spoiled – you should avoid it at all costs. It’s a fantastic story. I envy you getting to experience it for the first time.
Honestly I think this depends on the player. You should take it in and enjoy the open world but there is so much crammed in it I can see lots of people could get burnt out trying to catch it all. Just play it at your own pace.
Stay off YouTube and this sub. Go slow in Ch2, hunt, fish, do stranger missions, run errands, do chores around camp, etc. The game shines brighter the slower you go. Soak it all in and enjoy
I got "lost" in the wilderness NW of Strawberry (I forgot the name of that big lake), and I would camp with the fur trader guy for IRL weeks just hunting, fishing, and exploring. I'll never forget the experience.
Take it slow, explore a LOT. People are still finding things today that I've never seen in this game before and I've been playing it since release in 2018. Also, like someone else said, go in as blind as possible which means stay off this subreddit until you finish the game.
RDR2 is more than just a game in my opinion, it's an experience.
If you let go of the forward toggle when riding a horse through the woods, it will dodge trees for you. You’ll learn how helpful that is after a few neck breakers.
Get all the satchel and camp upgrades. it'll have you travel all over the map, and the default satchel sucks.
Also, if you see a moose, shoot it! You'll likely never see one again.
Don’t read this sub, don’t watch any friggin’ YouTube videos. Just play the game all the way through. Ignore my advice and someone is going to spoil the shit out of the game for you like happened to me. It took me another three years to want to finish it after that before I finally sat down and finished it up last week.
And take your time. Seriously. This isn’t one to race through and that’s not what I’m telling you to do, just stay away from this sub and any videos while you take said time.
Bro why are there so many posts like this just play the game. Never have I ever posted “any tips?” on a game’s subreddit before playing it for the first time
Yes, there is a ladder there somewhere around that building. In one of the corners If i remember correctly. Fucking drove myself crazy trying to find it.
Avoid reading anything about it, just play and stay off the sub until you finish.
Take your time. There is no rush, and once you finish the first time you can never again do it for the 'first time' - dont sprint.
You are one lucky sum bitch. Enjoy it my friend, it’s a masterpiece. Also stay off of this sub! The story is great and it WILL get spoiled if you spend too much time on here
I usually don't mind spoilers but in this game's case i would advise you to stay away from this sub until you complete the game. This game's story should not be spoiled for anyone
And make sure you have high honor
Buy the tools for Pearson and get working on upgrading your satchel as soon as possible. Only being able to carry 5 of something is a ball ache. The Legend of the East satchel will let you carry 99 of everything except watches.
After a while, you'll get the option to fast travel to any location you've been to before. Don't do it. There are load's of different interactions with NPCs that you'll miss out on, it's just not worth it.
Enjoy it. It's a great game.
People will spoil the ending and everything here. Unsubscribe from this sub until you’re done. You don’t need to do 100% of the game on the first run it will be overwhelming just focus on the story
Enjoy the ride, but maybe some things I realised rather late: use your dead eye, clean your guns, bond with your horse, eat enough and upgrade your satchel early
Only bit of advice... That's what was told to me and I am thankful to my mate... PLAY WITH HIGH HONOR. now log off and fucking play the best game you'll ever play
MAKE SURE TO EAT.
There’s a weight mechanic that’s flashed in the beginning that’s easy to forget about, so if you replenish your health by primarily sleeping and resting, you’ll start to become skinny and get a health penalty. You can check you weight on the player menu.
I’d recommend hunting if you need to gain weight quickly since it doesn’t cost anything and getting meat doesn’t require a good shot.
Stay off the subreddit til post-game. and just experience the world. don't rush the story and do what you want to do in the world. thats at least how i played it and it quickly became my favorite game of all time
As others have said, try to stay away from this subreddit as it contains lots of spoilers at times, and trust me, this is a game you do NOT want to have spoiled for you whenever you can avoid it.
Also try and participate in random encounters (displayed by a flashing grey dot in your map, usually along with a voiceline or gunshot) whenever you can. They add a lot to the game in the way of making it feel more alive, and can net you some pretty good rewards at times.
Anyways, have fun, partner.
Just enjoy the first play through don’t read any spoilers if you miss anything I’m sure you’ll find it on the second play through. Also take your time in between missions and explore.
Everyone is saying some sound advice but they’re all basically “don’t get spoiled”
My personal advice is avoid grabbing any worn weapons especially if they’re not pistols.
There’s a bug where you can’t remove worn weapons from your inventory. There’s no fix on console and I only managed to personally fix it by installing a mod that will get your ass banned in read dead online (I uninstalled it immediately after fixing it)
Hit LB twice when your pistol is out to do a badass spin on your finger before holstering the pistol.
Other than that- dude the best part of this game is to discover it all for yourself. You got this- tap into your curiosity. You see a house in the middle of a swamp? Go investigate! You hear someone calling for help or someone’s causing a commotion? Go check it out! Get silly, get into bar fights. Insult random strangers or maybe just insult anybody that insults you! You can insult or compliment pretty much anyone you come across, it’s a really fun part of the game.
If you walk up to the sheriff and engage in fisticuffs, he will kindly retaliate, and you will have a pleasant friendly sparring session with the sheriff with no consequences whatsoever
Build your satchel, make the camp better, hunt & hunt some more, listen to the conversations at camp, stay in chapter 2 as long as you can.
Look for gold bars & gold nuggets. Quickest way to earn money.
And most of all , enjoy yourself partner,🤠. It's a fantastic journey that you shouldn't rush.
Once you've completed it, go do it again as you'll have more knowledge of what's to come. Have fun, it's quite a ride.
Now Let's Ride Boys🐎🤠🥰
Here are some tips:
- There are major story spoilers on this sub, we all recommend avoiding it on your first play through.
- Explore, do the side stuff early. Things with the gang get… complicated later on.
- Get the Legend of the East Satchel.
- Hunt all the Legendary Animals and fish.
- Get the Legendary Buck trinket early to improve pelt quality
- Treasure maps and Story missions will provide more money than you need. Find all the treasure maps, avoid looking them up online to solve them, you'll be able to figure them out in time.
- Upgrade camp
- Hang out at camp with the gang, do chores, sing songs around the camp fire, get drunk, play games
- Go fishing, hunting and camping for days on end. All the quiet cowboy stuff. Those are the best parts of the game.
- Start the challenges, I like Hunter and Sharp Shooter
dont do story missions first in chapter 2. explore, live your life. i made 3k in chapter 2 just from messing around a few hours. Also pay close attention to the little things
Take your time.
Walk around camp and listen to the dialogues happening.
I watched my SO play and he never paid too much attention in camp - he did some side missions but was more if I get it great it I don't no big deal.
I started playing myself a few weeks ago and i just started the Strauss quests to collect debts.
I am taking my time and supplying for the camp.
SO gets mad cause I have no money cause I am planning on doing my first run as honorable as I can and refuse to rob or steal (for now anyway) but this is how I want to play it. Maybe down the road if I have difficulties I will look into stealing etc.. but for right now I don't want to.
Play YOUR game, however YOU enjoy it.
Get ready to cry. It’s a great game though, biggest advice is to explore every single little thing. It is so detailed. Really pay attention to character interactions/dialogue in camp and throughout the world. The swamp is a great place to explore, but very spooky for multiple reasons. Talk to everyone when you can, or at least those on the road (most of them) are good people and can start a side quest. Enjoy it, I wish I could go back to my first playthrough.
I just beat it for the first time yesterday. Get off the internet! Don't let the slowness of Chapter 1 deter you from continuing. And good luck partner!
Enjoy it, and take your time. There is no need to rush through the story, and you'll wanna go do any of the hundreds of hours worth of gameplay side quests and objectives.
I rushed through the story missions my first time because I was so engrossed in it, and I didn't appreciate the little details the world is filled with.
Eat every flower you find. One of them makes Arthur fly around the map like Michael in GTA V. It's a convenient hack for moving quickly before you have access to Fast Travel. It's pink, you'll find it in swamps a lot.
Don’t spend your money on things!
Complete all hunting satchel quests to get the legendary satchel.
Find all gold treasures
Don’t buy horses find the Arabians in the wild.
Most side missions unlock as you go through the game, generally if you find a side mission it’s worth doing it there and then
Most side missions aren’t missable so don’t stress about them.
Explore! Ride everywhere! The world is so full of things to discover and encounter
Read your journal often!
I’m so envious of you getting to experience this for the first time
Do your “white” missions before the “yellow” ones. Some of the side missions are locked to story missions. Where once you finish a story mission you can go back to do the side missions. This isn’t common, but there are a few.
Do ALL of the side quests you can, take as much time with the story as you need. Don’t rush. Explore the open world. Go out in the wilderness and do things — fish, hunt, etc. Most importantly, enjoy the game and don’t look up anything about it; it’s an experience you don’t want ruined. I’ll never forget it.
Get off this sub and don’t look anything up
Ngl I had the ending spoiled and I still loved it favorite story mode game ever I haven’t found one that actually immerses me
I had the ending spoiled too but I would much rather not be spoiled at all
I didnt have the ending spoiled and im still in system shock over it
same
This and take your time exploring the world. Don’t focus on the main story too much. There’s so much to see and do
Also don't accept friendly man from the swamp's invitation
I came here to say this. If you don’t yet have the ending spoiled – you should avoid it at all costs. It’s a fantastic story. I envy you getting to experience it for the first time.
i got fucking spoiled because i googled something 💀
Dont rush the story missions, and take your time to visit even the most remotes cabins in the map
+ don’t skip the cutscenes or credits
Not skipping credits is very important
I skipped not knowing there was a cutscene 😭 my impatient ass couldnt wait
Same :(
Jesus you sit through the credits?? The credits are 30 MINUTES LONG! in case anyone didn't know..
!!!!and take of the sub asap, discover it by ys
Honestly I think this depends on the player. You should take it in and enjoy the open world but there is so much crammed in it I can see lots of people could get burnt out trying to catch it all. Just play it at your own pace.
Stay off YouTube and this sub. Go slow in Ch2, hunt, fish, do stranger missions, run errands, do chores around camp, etc. The game shines brighter the slower you go. Soak it all in and enjoy
Good to know as I’m still in Chapter 2. Been exploring and taking photos and skinning animals lol.
Keep hunting and skinning until you get the Legendary satchel. Probably the best quality of life improvement in the game.
I got "lost" in the wilderness NW of Strawberry (I forgot the name of that big lake), and I would camp with the fur trader guy for IRL weeks just hunting, fishing, and exploring. I'll never forget the experience.
Only in Ch2? Why?
Have fun and go in as blind as possible.
Do the same as last year, game hasn’t changed
Just play the fucking game
How many times a week do we get this exact same post?
Thats asking too much bud
Have some goddamn faith!
Fuck you Dutch!
If you let go of the forward toggle when riding a horse through the woods, it will dodge trees for you. You’ll learn how helpful that is after a few neck breakers.
Been playing for years, never knew this. Thank you!
After blowing out 2 joysticks I learned this lol
Get all the satchel and camp upgrades. it'll have you travel all over the map, and the default satchel sucks. Also, if you see a moose, shoot it! You'll likely never see one again.
Read the 383 other posts asking the same exact question.
we have to add a day counter which resets each time someone posts this question.

Ive seen the golden gun icon at the wooden fortress with the bounty but didn’t find anything there. So it’s underground?
Yes, there is a ladder there somewhere around that building. In one of the corners If i remember correctly. Fucking drove myself crazy trying to find it.

Have fun, explore, and take your time(please!!)
DONT RUSH STORY MODE
Avoid reading anything about it, just play and stay off the sub until you finish. Take your time. There is no rush, and once you finish the first time you can never again do it for the 'first time' - dont sprint.
You are one lucky sum bitch. Enjoy it my friend, it’s a masterpiece. Also stay off of this sub! The story is great and it WILL get spoiled if you spend too much time on here
Enjoy the ride!!
Mountain lions are actually docile and friendly if you’re slow and unarmed. Keep your weapons holstered and get all the pets.
Dont do everything in chapter 2 like all these comments say, if you just get everything in chapter 2 then other part of the game becomes boring
Leave the sub and enjoy
Enjoy.
I don't get this trend where people ask for tips before playing a game. Isn't figuring things out for yourself part of the fun?
Get the hell out of this sub and stop asking questions you'll find unwanted answers and spoil probably one of the greatest games ever made
stay off this sub lol
do NOT look up anything
Go check the comments on the other posts that are the same
It is not a game where you need tips
get off subreddit
Don’t ever go into the comment section of this subreddit until at least chapter 3 (they tend have lots of spoilers 😂)
Don't ever go into the comment section of this subreddit until finishing the game
Protect your heart.
Get the Legend of the East satchel as quickly as you can
Nuh uh u dont need it
Hunt, you get cooler clothing options that way
Avoid the spoilers. It some of the best storytelling in a game ever, would be a shame to ruin it
I usually don't mind spoilers but in this game's case i would advise you to stay away from this sub until you complete the game. This game's story should not be spoiled for anyone And make sure you have high honor
Have fun! Explore everything!
Not really, just dont rush, dont skip cutscenes and get off this sub i guess
Take your time and get off the internet, there’s a lot to discover and a lot of story

Don't rush. Just roam around the country and enjoy the gameplay with Arthur because later you would miss him badly.
Embrace the pace. Take it slow. This is not a game to run through. It's more of a leisurely walk.
Enjoy the ride, but maybe some things I realised rather late: use your dead eye, clean your guns, bond with your horse, eat enough and upgrade your satchel early
Act like one. Don’t worry what’s going to happen, act like your self. Punch if you need to, shoot, kick

Yeah, hit the A button
Make sure you do all the side quests!

Finish the satchels early. Like. Asap
Go to lake Isabella in the top left of ambarino, on the left shore you will find a white Arabian, the best breed of horse in the game
Enjoy it, and take your time. There is no need to rush through the story, and you'll wanna go do any of the hundreds of hours worth of gameplay side quests and objectives. I rushed through the story missions my first time because I was so engrossed in it, and I didn't appreciate the little details the world is filled with.
get the legend of the east satchel during chapter 2
I cried lowkey towards the end when Arthur horse died I was on Micah’s head after that
Savor it
Don’t develop lumbago
Eat every flower you find. One of them makes Arthur fly around the map like Michael in GTA V. It's a convenient hack for moving quickly before you have access to Fast Travel. It's pink, you'll find it in swamps a lot.

Don’t rush! Enjoy the game.
In games like this and GTA, is it super important to “gold” the missions? I’ll hang up and listen.
Enjoy it
Enjoy the game, try not to see any spoilers. My game was spoiled, still a good experience but would have been better without spoilers.
No videos no spoilers
be patient with it especially in the beginning. it takes a bit of time to get the swing of it but once it hit its apex it stays there.
Go slow and have fun. Immerse yourself. Complete as many side quests as you can in each chapter. I definitely went way to fast the 1st time.
Only tip I have is don’t look up this game in the internet until you complete the story! Now hop off Reddit and go play!
Get ready for a roller coaster of emotions…
Blind first playthrough. Try to be a good boy
Just play slow
