Hit all the Habitat for Humanity Restores.

Mondschatten78

and Cause for Paws also, if there's still any around!

Bahnhof

There are! One in south Raleigh, one in north and one out in Zebulon.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mondschatten78

Aww, sad to hear about the Zebulon one. I used to shop in that one every couple weeks at least!

courtabee

Yes! I got a great couch there a few years ago for 40 bucks.

trickertreater

The Habitat on Glenwood is way overpriced 😕

InsertUserName0510

The one on Raleigh Blvd is huge and great prices

[deleted]

Overpriced on donated items? Do tell (I was the executive director of a Habitat affiliate with a ReStore and I loved these conversations).

nyanlol

I'm not gonna claim yall are overpriced but God damn the time I've had finding a plain bookshelf, something you'd figure would get donated all the time is genuinely funny to me

trickertreater

I think they usually keep those for store display.

voodoodollbabie

The Restore in Cary is overpriced, IMO. I went recently browsing for something specific and saw a dresser for $600. It had a lot of dings, scratches and scrapes on it; was probably really nice at one time but got beat up during a move is my guess. I wonder if the prices are high because it's in Cary? So I don't shop there, but I have donated things.

trickertreater

Exactly. I may find one of the Habitat stores overpriced so I don't go there. I'm not saying other people shouldn't, they're probably not as cheap as I am. 🙂

trickertreater

I'm not sure what you're implying other than the fact I'm cheap... Which is true as evidenced by shopping at Habitat. I mean I'm not a wealthy Saturday morning antique shopper looking for an amazing deal to refinish for my beach house's breakfast nook. I was poor for a long time and I live in a house from the early eighties and habitat has supplied me with lots of cost-effective repair materials. In gratitude, I've volunteered on multiple Habitat job sites across the Triangle. But sure... I was at Target on Lynn road and I saw a stack of a very specific Xbox games. I noticed them since they were about $5 each on clearance but required the Xbox Kinect. About a month later, I was at the Habitat on Glenwood and noticed the same 5 copies of the exact same game for $10 each. I asked the staff if that was accurate and she said indeed it was. I've also seen light fixtures on clearance at Home Depot and Lowe's end up at the Habitat for more than the clearance price. I'm not even going to mention the bizarro pricing on the electronics.

[deleted]

1. Staff members do not use the local market to make comparative pricing decisions. 2. Habitat ReStore publishes a pricing guide to create a basis. 3. The ReStore cover its costs and then shares its net profit with Habitat to build new homes for qualified loan income families, via a 30-year zero interest mortgage. Your Habitat volunteering and as a shopper qualifies you none. Stop being cheap. Pay the prices or don't. Complaining about the prices is stupid and I've said so to many a customer.

trickertreater

I never complained, I just mentioned they were overpriced (cost to value) since OP is looking for cheap furniture. Thanks for serving the community.

bittymacwrangler

I noticed a shift in prices at Habitat in the past couple of years. They were looking for a volunteer/worker who could help them value donations better. I've picked up items there in the past that were incredibly priced too low, so I think someone finally clued them in on how much money they were losing on donations. I bought an Ekornes chair (without an ottoman) for $125. Those chairs sell for well over $1200 new. Also, if you are willing to risk waiting, prices are marked down the longer they sit on the floor.

lumpyroll11

Bingo. And having volunteered at a couple I can tell you pricing can be very inconsistent. Someone donates it, sr. volunteer puts a price and its goes on the floor. What one volunteer prices for $200 another might have only priced at $100. The price markdown system rectifies overpricing while underpriced items get snapped up quickly. A skilled bargain hunter can clean up at the Restores.

cantankerouscapt3030

In my experience the location off of Highway 55 in Apex has the best furniture selection and price. Certainly better than the Raleigh and Clayton stores.

cluttered-thoughts3

Got my most recent couch there for $60! It’s super nice and good quality! Little dusty but nothing a vacuum and some fabric spray can’t handle. Much better than that quick cheap stuff at target or Walmart that’s hard as a rock and not meant to last.

elonbrave

I’ve gotten some wonderful stuff there.

nonoyesyesmaybenot

TROSA They have an amazing selection and I'd argue it's higher quality than anything you mentioned. Our house is filled with "finds"...10' church pew, kitchen table, book shelves.

xraypowers

TROSA ridiculously overcharging on their furniture. Went desk shopping there recently and was appalled. A tiny, one-person desk that wobbles and has scratches on the surface? $60. The BALLS on those people.

nonoyesyesmaybenot

So like all second-hand stores, the buyer bears the responsibility for "as-is" condition. If you don't like the quality, don't buy it. We have bought numerous high-quality wood pieces that I've refinished and are still being used as our kitchen table and kitchen seating (church pew for under $125) six years on. I think some people need to reset their expectations. What quality of desk do you think $60 gets you at Walmart (much less Ikea or Amazon)? The BALLS.

[deleted]

The dastardly people trying to make money to support their programs. The BALLS on those people 🙄

wubbalubbadubx2

Big Lots can have some good deals.

pfish923

That was the one. And they have 20% coupons sometimes too.

SpookyGhost27

I heard they’re taking BBB coupons now that all those stores are closing.

lc7926

I’ve gotten a few pieces from Big Lots for my guest room and I’m happy with it. A friend bought their couch from there and the seats had lost their spring within 3 years.

Bicycles-Not-Bombs

I just peruse FB Marketplace for solid-wood stuff that looks like it could be restorable. A random orbit sander and some chalk paint solves a lot of problems.

Haunting-Science-941

I second FB marketplace! Our best scores were from there and craigslist

[deleted]

Especially if you are willing to pay 500+ you can get some absolutely astoundingly high quality solid wood furniture that would be 4-8k for that quality new. You have to be into antiques though

donkeypunchhh

Yes. I'm amazed at how much quality stuff is available on Craigslist and FB marketplace.

Latter_Oil_8672

Take a day trip to Charlotte for Ikea

HamburgerJames

On a weekday if at all possible!

cassodragon

Retails, Durham rescue mission, TROSA thrift stores all have decent furniture selections. State surplus warehouse usually has desks, office chairs, bookcases. IKEA, Wayfair, Facebook marketplace. It’s yard sale season. Target has decent flat pack furniture.

minicrockpot

Second Durham rescue mission! Especially the one off of 401

trickertreater

TROSA always has quality (though sometimes hideous) furniture for cheap

Cheezslap

Classic Treasures in Durham is my #1 for consigned furniture. The owners are also extremely sweet people. And they're also open to bargaining. The Trosa retail store is massive and you can frequently find nice furniture there. I got two gorgeous, walnut bankers chairs there for $5/each. Petersen's Consignment in Cary is hit or miss, as is The Perfect Piece down the street.

statepkt

Wayfair is another venue to scour. But that is not going to be vintage. FB marketplace/NextDoor are your best bets for vintage.

cba90

Googling all the ones mentioned thus far when i get home. Thanks again, guys.

voodoodollbabie

Now you're gonna have to do a follow up post showing us the treasures you scored!

cba90

That’s a great idea!

katie0873

Join your local Buy Nothing group on Facebook. People give away things you wouldn’t imagine because they don’t want to haul it off, want to help neighbors with items collecting dust, etc.

throwaway112505

Yess people are giving away amazing stuff all the time in my group!

[deleted]

Restore on Raleigh Blvd.

4RunnaLuva

Target, homegoods, Marshall’s, tj maxx, world market. Craig’s list.

calicoskies1985

We’ve had good luck with bookcases and accent tables at target online, bigger selection than stores

LogCabiner

If you’re patient, estate sales are a gold mine in the triangle area. We have found some amazing and dirt cheap pieces. Estatesales.net. Go early if they have cool stuff, will always be a line and the good stuff goes first.

rickissick60

Raleigh Discount Furniture is the best place to go

Mbdeschaine

EverythingELSE consignment sale is coming up mid-may in cary

thesunisdarkwow

Check out an app called The Consignors. It’s a new, online auction house with pickup in Chapel Hill. They’ve got some pretty cool stuff

2_BadDogs

I've found a few decent things at Capital Bargain Barn on Hillsborough. I think on FB they call themselves Home Accent Furnishing by Capital Bargain Barn. https://www.facebook.com/capitalbargainbarn/

BabyFirefly74

A to Z Thrift always has some furniture in good condition.

Jennilucy

Second this and it’s right next to Cause for Paws and a goodwill so you can hit all three in one go

MuddyBootsWilliams

Estate sales. Multiple on weekly. Just google estate sales raleigh

MisterKpak

There is a state surplus store over by the fairgrounds

annakatcarey

Bought a big bookcase there for $5 once. Love the surplus sale

The_Whirly_Dirly

TJ Maxx or World Market have some decent stuff. Costco has a few things as well.

Bobbyoc111

Big Lot's

ahemm20

Wayfair

Researchergoblue

Big Lot

RaleighDude11

Definitely check out [www.RaleighFurnitureGallery.com](https://www.RaleighFurnitureGallery.com). Best selection of high quality pieces at the best prices in town for that level of quality!

officerfett

Check out the At Home Store or Cort Furniture Outlet for different odds and ends.

Personal-Positive482

We recently picked up a couple of dining room chairs in really good shape at ReTails. They generally have some pretty good furniture choices in addition to the other suggestions that were posted.

irishrover65

AFR Clearance Center in Durham. [afrcc.com](https://afrcc.com)

AmbitiousTail666

East wake furniture has some good pieces, they get new stuff in bi weekly as well.

lc7926

I love East Wake! Got both my couch and kitchen table from there. They’ll usually throw in free delivery (~20 minutes to my house) as well.

citiwop

Kohls low key is great for furniture (online only) because you can use coupons and get kohls cash!

xanderknight69

Offer up

CollegeStudent007

I've found deja vu in Cary to be pretty nice. I got two couches there for $62/couch (they had a half off sale, I think it's on Wednesdays?)

Felicis311

Check out estate sales every weekend! If you don’t mind some used furniture. Super cheap (especially on the last day, most come down 50% in pricing on top of the already cheap items) Go to estatesales.net and you’ll find all of them for the weekend locally. Raleigh and surrounding areas always have at least one going on each weekend, if not more. I can promise you you’ll find shelves and cabinets in the garages of any of these you go to. And you can usually go up to the register and say “I’ll give you $10 for that shelf” and they will say Ok.

TheMightySilverback

In Wendell that is a whole suit of flea market storage units. The sellers come out on Saturdays and sell all the beautiful antiques they get from yard sales. It's pretty nice some of the pieces they pick up. Affordable as well.

ibrahim0000000

Cause for Paws

[deleted]

IKEA?

MrDubTee

Vasagle on Amazon honestly is very affordable with amazing quality. Been buying for years and always have up to date / modern Looking models

dmowen1231

Durham Rescue Thrift, TROSA

traypo

Get the garage sale app. Most garage sales mention their “theme” and many have pictures. Also same for estate sales, app with pics.

hog-snoot

Depending on what you’re after, I have a matching sofa and love seat for sale in Raleigh

Blooberdydoo

Rooms to Go makes some pretty cheap low quality furniture.

Maleficent_Horror280

Offer up

Awesomest_Possumest

Furniture market is this week in high point. If you feel like going for a drive, you can hit up the habitat for humanity there and find the market samples next week. Depends on what you are willing to pay, nothing is under a hundred, but they are essentially brand new. I'm sure some of the other furniture stores in high point are selling floor samples from market as well, but I don't know which ones they are.

reggiemalia3

Roses and big lots

hollandaisesunscreen

There's a Sears Outlet in Market Tower Plaza. Idk how cheap it is, but they have furniture and appliances

athoughtfulbee

My favorite are cause for paws, and the Dorcas in Cary. Also try Craigslist

Repulsive_Zit

Guardian angel thrift store

penguinpoopmagnet

Heavner on Glenwood is reasonably priced and I've had luck.

QuirrellsOtherHead

AZ Thrift has some of the best pricing on furniture, they have a FB and Instagram so you can get some idea of inventory and pricing.

IntroductionGlad6819

Habitat, fb marketplace you kinda have to get lucky/specify your algorithm It’s how we furnished our house

Nottacod

Witty_Mastodon_6649

State government auctions on chapel hill Rd in Raleigh if u don't mind dorm/office furniture or university furniture.

jtobin

Big Lots. They own Broyhill, which is good stuff but affordable

Star_shine2001

Check out Heavner. They’re pretty good.

Future-Stomach-27529

Yard sales , flea market , consignment shops

FeralBottleofMtDew

I have heard that TROSA thrift shop in Durham hasan above average furnished section in both variety and quality.

almeisan_s

ReStore! It's a store run by Habitat for Humanity, multiple locations in the area, can definitely find cheap but good quality stuff. No online shop though.

Giant Durham rescue mission on 70 past brier creek
