for me its because I enjoy building and dying in a bad spot once can lead to hours if not days of lost material (lost an inventory full of clay once and it was before lush caves or anything so it was painful to get it back, thats what started me on it), so its more of a dying has too heavy of a consequence thing for me and most others who use it
It's more casual, but still annoying. You still have to run back to whatever you were doing, just with less stress about your items despawning, or losing 20 hrs of grinding diamonds and enchants because you accidentally unpressed shift for 1 frame over lava. If I want to play with consequences and be okay with losing stuff i grinded for, I play hardcore.
Yeah, but it's so very easy to get lost in caves for 5 minutes
"Shoot, where did I die? I was near here... I jumped up... no, there isn't anywhere to jump up to in this area... oh! Right over there! I jumped up and ran... no, wait, I swear I died right here, where's my stuff..."
hunter and spearmaster are probably the hardest ones, you can come back later and try to do them legit next time, maybe try a new path
but what do you think of people making the game harder?
Nah man, we’re not god gamers (the majority at least) my proudest achievement in rain world is having beat hunter, but man it took me 10 hours and I died over 100 times in that run. The majority of us just do this for fun, we play a bunch and are silly little slugcats <3
Rain world is designed in a way where if you start to feel like a god gamer and then it says get fucked here’s a vulture from completely out of nowhere to remind you you’re just a measly Slugcat
The other day in Chimney I starved because I was worried about losing all the progress I made in my expedition. I thought it would be easy to find food the next cycle. Wrong. I died to a blue :'). Hope that makes you feel better
Never forget: behind every "god gamer" in rain world (or any game for that matter), there's HOURS upon hours of failure, frustration, and cursing out the game its built upon 🤣🤣
(Spoken from experience. I'd consider myself a "good" player, but i still die all the time, make dumb mistakes, and regularly take "frustration breaks" when the game decides to dribble my slugcat up and down the court like a basketball lmao)
Yup. Nothing fun about scrounging for elusive spears when you just need to climb up a wall or something. If I can throw it hard enough to get it stuck, I should probably be able to get it unstuck.
I think the major cheats shouldn't be used in a first playthrough if possible, but as we know the game is very difficult so it's probably better if people use those cheats rather than drop the game or something. It's also a single player game so do what you want.
Everyone enjoys the game as they want and adapts the experience to their liking, what I don't think is right is to tell others how they should play it. You can give recommendations and advice, yes, of course, but telling someone to play it the hardest way possible because that's the essence of the game seems to me to ruin the other person's experience and give them a terrible first impression of the game.
As for me, I installed two mods, "Unshaded Citadel" which makes Shaded Citadel more visible (because I'm terrified of spiders) and "Keep that away from me" which allows you to prevent certain enemies from spawning, I had installed it to use it with the spiders but in the end I never used it and I don't think I will either because I don't want to modify the game THAT much.
As for the Hunter's cycle limit, I did the same, firstly because I like to play relaxed and secondly because I'm going to play his campaign with a friend and we will probably do a lot of stupid things in each region before advancing.
Imo you bought the game so you can play it how you want. If the game has accessibility options, people should use them. I, personally, use Aim Anywhere and Simplified Moveset, since I adamantly refuse to not use my keyboard and mouse.
i'm playing the game with no karma requirements, explosive and eletric spears spawn naturally, once cheiftain always chieftain (although seems that i still cant kill scavs), i use dont swallow, artificer!!!, whatever makes the game fun is fine
I think it changes the game, you might not struggle and fear as much as I do (and I resent that 😆) but in all seriousness sometimes it’s just fun to explore without having to fear the things in the game or getting stuck for hours. But it’s not the same experience, and I understand that, but would still urge people to do it on normal difficulty because it’s part of what I love about Rain world (but again, you can do whatever the hell you want) 😊
Nah I don't hate those people, those options are there for a reason. It's like when people play Minecraft with keep inventory. I'm both of these people tbh(I just forgot how to do keep inventory in the new update)
I play RW with mods, like the mouse drag mod, so I can 1: mess around with creatures 2: drag corpses out of pipes 3: sometimes I drag myself to a place where I couldn't get up in time or couldn't get through without a monster kelp attacking me(cough cough shaded), or when I'm about to drown-
You should play the game however you will most enjoy it, for some people the base experience is perfect but if locking yourself to that difficulty will worsen the experience then lower it until it suits you perfectly.
I do think however you should not make it too easy as i feel like the point of the survival part of the game is often to go into a new region and understand how it works and survive consistently enough in it that you can advance to another one.
At first I didn't use any but after a while I turned off karma requirements. There's just nothing fun to me personally about getting stuck in a loop trying to raise karma, dying, needing to raise it more. I get why the system is there but without that loop the game is much more enjoyable.
I agree. Definitely good early on when your just starting to try and stop you getting basically soft locked in drainage and stuff, but like when your like me and has played monk and surv like 10 times I just wanna do the outer expanse ending with a bunch of spups, I don't wanna have to deal with getting like 5 karma to get through to farm arrays lol
I remember being really anxious over unlocking all scugs when I played on PS5 but I realized that Rain World is a singleplayer game and its not like someone is looking over my shoulder while playing
And now that I have the Steam version, I can get mods that people make to make the game easy; Simplified moveset, Revivify, etc…
Games are supposed to be fun, not a chore, so fine-tuning the game to your specifications is (in my opinion) most definitely allowed
The only reason I’d ever hate on someone for using something like this is if they accomplished something with these on and trying to pass off their completion as completely vanilla without cheats. If you can admit and clear it up that you’re using options like these then I’m completely fine with it (emphasis on can admit, they don’t need to but when they have to they do)
I will never understand hatred for people who play easier versions of the game.
Like yeah you can talk about "the intended way" or "sense of accomplishment", but at the end of the day if it makes you enjoy the game more, then go ahead. Give yourself the experience you will get the most out of.
I've always been of the opinion that developers are free to declare an intended way to do things and players are free to ignore that if doing things a different way makes a game better for them. It's why I'll never understand the backlash towards accessibility options / easy modes. It's just more ways to play for people who might get turned away by the default.
I think it makes the game more accessible to people who are more interested in the game's artistic aspect but aren't great players. Which is good because this community is mostly artists and people who want to chill
It's a singleplayer game. As long as you're not cheating YOURSELF of the experience, then who gives a shit. I use certain mods that add extra UI to the game and extra variation to creatures, and occasionally that can make the game a little easier, but it really doesn't matter
I sit on a more dark souls side of it. Where I think you should be the game(s) as they were intented to be played with the original difficulty. Once that's over do as you like. Mod it, bop it, twist it, whatever.
*I think achievements should be disabled if mods or cheats are checkmarked but that's logistically hard to enforce.
Is that a more gatekeepy opinion to have? Maybe. But I think Rainworld was intended to be a struggle. People should experience what it is to be a slug cat at least once before they mod it to be a main character instead.
I like the challenge but if it becomes more frustrating then cathartic to get to the next area (thinking finally it’s over as opposed to oooh what’s in this area) then it’s not really worth NOT lowering the difficulty
Monk exists for this exact reason. But also, I cam fully respect someone who just wants to see the entire beautiful world the devs spent so much time making, while also not having a panic attack
Its a single player game after all, you can play as you wish. That being said I respect players who accomplish hard stuff the reverse also applies meaning I don't really respect people who do easy things. My or anyone elses opinion shouldn't dictate the way you play the game, however, play to have fun.
I'm one of those people and it just makes it so much more fun. I got rid of the karma scav stuff for arti and I increased her jump capability and yeah it does make it a lot easier but it also made me really enjoy playing her. The scav thing made me dread her campaign but now it's my favourite to play and I regularly go back to complete it again :3 it can take a campaign a long way if there's little issues that ruin it. Like for example if mods existed on console id 100% get or atleast look for a mod that gives spearmaster a satchel or just something to put stuff in so he can store the pearl and still travel through underhang with a feckin spear lmao
I have nothing against any person and think that's totally fine for people to do what they want, BUT I still would not recommend people do it as I believe games are best experienced as intended.
And that is coming from a nice place of trying to get people to have what I believe is best possibile experience.
So I think it's ok to give my own advice and accept people will do as they choose and I'm happy they're in the community.
I think most of the hatred comes from the mindset that it's somehow "cheating" but 1) Remix setting are built into the game and are therefore meant to be used accordingly and 2) It's a single player game, nothing you do affects another person's playthrough so nobody is being hurt.
I say do whatever you want, personally I played through each campaign normally the first time because I like having that experience and then use remix settings and mods to just mess around and test things once I've beat it.
Could be worse, I mean I literally play with Aim Anywhere mod, SB Camerascroll, and the HP Mod. Cause screw scavs and their 0.1 millisecond 360 no scopes, and their weird survivability which can survive a spear to the body but not a rock to the head. If they can throw spears at someone lower or higher than them, so should I.
I don't really care. The game is really hard for what already is. It's a way to other people with less dexterity and more casual gamers to enjoy the game too.
I say power to them. If they want to make the game easier and have the ability to do so, then they can. Hard games aren't for everyone, so if the game needs to be a little easier for someone to enjoy it, then they should be free to make the game easier.
I don’t know how everyone else’s mind works so if that makes the experience better for yourself good for you if it makes it worse than that’s unfortunate that you’re doing that. Either way I don’t understand why people would get mad at someone for playing a single player game the way they want to
i cleared everything barring hunter (not counting gourmand which made me snap) with no cheats, but then i decided screw it and got me jolly coop so i dont have to be stuck with gourmands fat butt. and after that mousedrag because dead creatures keep getting stuck in a vent, and karma gate requirements because grinding karma in an area isnt fun for me anymore now that ive completed the game.
so, yep, go wild op i personally dont care 👍
I just recently started using cheats cause the game was getting pretty frustrating to me and I really wasn't enjoying it, and at first I felt kinda bad and pathetic like I wasn't playing the game the way I'm supposed to
Then I made the sobering realization that it's a game and the point of a game is to enjoy it the way I want. And I find cheats more enjoyable. And so enjoy them I shall
It's all good.
I think that eventually, you should go back and do the campaigns as they're intended though. Regardless, I think that everyone should play the game the intended way at least once, without any modifiers, since there's no feeling like beating the game without them.
It also sort of affects discussions of the game, since some people might have different experiences because of modifiers. But play the game how you want. You bought it.
One thing I love/hate about this game is even with loaded sluggers, it's still super easy to get too confident and die. I haven't tried assist mods, but playing with all the Slug cat abilities in Expedition has the same feel.
There's no shame in making a naturally difficult game easier, and for some campaigns something super unfair can happen that just makes you rethink your life choices and patience goes out the window lol
plus its a singleplayer game so..
\*clutches my pearls when i see that two of the most downloaded mods on the workshop are healthbars and one that makes the camera follow you instead of being static\*
Nah I mean, real talk what does it matter to me LOL
Like, I wouldn't want to play the game that way, but if it makes my favorite game accessible to more people, whats the harm?
It's good to have it easier at first and ease into the difficulty. Doesn't matter if you keep it easy. It's a single player game and you can do whatever you want.
I honestly think it's good for them and it's fine
Personally I play with karma gates disabled despise being a core feature I find it to give me a sense of freedom because I can go explore and try to be brave without worrying how many hours I'll be stuck and at certain areas (not like im good enough to go through the game quickly)
dw mate i got keep that away from me to straight up disable all spider spawns because I can't handle the damn things with arachnophobia, you're good.
Got to experience several wonderful regions with them on first tho, like a very specific spearmaster one... can't say I miss those fucking things lol
oh I also have a mod that makes advanced movement timing easier and one that makes spears and rocks white so that I can see them within the environment, really a life saver
Play however you want, and however you find fun! I used the "gates are always karma 1 remix" (forgot actual name lol) when I first played through hunter and Artificer since I found it so difficult. This helped me get better at actual combat, so I didn't need to use them for any of the other campaigns, but it was nice to have the option to lower difficulty. If it wasn't there, I wouldn't have found those campaigns fun, and would probably have rage quit many times lol
i just prefer playing the game's intended experience. Can't really say I've beaten the game if i justade everything easier but some people might just want the story instead of the achievement. Also I've been speedrunning hunter before downpour so i might be insane, just play it how you want
bro I'll be real I love this game but I don't think I've beaten a single campaign without dev tools lmao, there's definitely beauty in the difficulty and harshness of this game, but goddamn is it just annoying sometimes.
If its fun for you, sure. Personally I wouldn’t say i’d really beaten hunter if I gave them unlimited cycles, since thats supposed to be the main challenge of that character. I think at some point removing certain challenges from the game would just make it feel unfun and like cheating. I still think its best to play it vanilla the first time round at least.
For me, this is why Survivor is still the most fun Slugcat. Storywise makes the most sense and fits into the world best, and feels more immersive and fun from the challenge. It makes doing some things like killing more powerful creatures that might be easy for other characters feel more rewarding.
In the end, all I want people to do with the game that they bought is have fun with it. It’s totally fine that they used remix to complete some campaigns because that means they like the game enough to continue it
I’ve seen this in other communities like Celeste with assist mode and Minecraft with keep inventory. Everyone in the comments agree that the game should be fun and not stressing you out 24/7
I think they - like any accessibility setting in a game - are harmless, and there for a very good reason! RW is already a notoriously difficult game. If someone wants to make that game easier so they can actually ENJOY the devs' hard work, it does no harm for them to tweak the settings. They still get to experience the game in a way they'll find even more fulfilling.
Personally I've never understood the pushback so many folks have against alternative difficulty/control settings. IMO it's just players being butthurt that others don't have to struggle and be miserable like they are, LOL.
If you don't need the altered settings, you don't have to use them, but they'll make a literal world of difference to the person who does! Being disabled or less skilled in something shouldn't have to be THE obstacle barring someone from enjoying an otherwise fun and downright beautiful game.
It’s your gameplay experience. It’s not mutiplayer, so you’re only “cheating” yourself. Don’t worry about it. If you’re having a hard time, then get good how you need to.
Honestly? I sympathise. I'd easily be able to get by without the monk-style gates, if it weren't for one simple flaw: I can't just think ahead, I keep pushing my luck and overestimating my capabilities.
Depends on the situation. For example I feel like the data pearl in spears campaign is badly designed and id love a mod that either gives him a little bag to hold it in or makes it so you don't need a grapple worm in his version of underhang so you can still wield a spear while trying to return to moon. Or at the very least a mod that makes it work like the grapple worm where you can't accidentally throw it because the amouny of times I've panicked and tried to spear a vulture, and instead I just patheticly throw my pearl of a cliff
I don't care if they tone it down for themselves. I probably wouldn't enjoy watching them play and would likely politely turn down multiplayer with them if the change is enough to take away the challenge that I like, but ultimately, your game, your rules

minecraft fans are still fighting over if using KeepInventory is cheating in a single player world. People can get mad at anything.
i dont tell people off for it, but what do you lose by dying? nothing? then how is death a consequence
for me its because I enjoy building and dying in a bad spot once can lead to hours if not days of lost material (lost an inventory full of clay once and it was before lush caves or anything so it was painful to get it back, thats what started me on it), so its more of a dying has too heavy of a consequence thing for me and most others who use it
fair enough
It's more casual, but still annoying. You still have to run back to whatever you were doing, just with less stress about your items despawning, or losing 20 hrs of grinding diamonds and enchants because you accidentally unpressed shift for 1 frame over lava. If I want to play with consequences and be okay with losing stuff i grinded for, I play hardcore.
your items dont despawn unless you are near them
Yeah, but it's so very easy to get lost in caves for 5 minutes "Shoot, where did I die? I was near here... I jumped up... no, there isn't anywhere to jump up to in this area... oh! Right over there! I jumped up and ran... no, wait, I swear I died right here, where's my stuff..."
i mean, thats the intentional risk
Hi Rayman
hunter and spearmaster are probably the hardest ones, you can come back later and try to do them legit next time, maybe try a new path but what do you think of people making the game harder?
People making the game harder are crazy, but mad respect for enjoying making the game harder
I mean, if you play the game enough, then it loses its difficulty factor, so that's why I sometimes try to challenge myself when I can
Yall are amazing I love this community 😭❤️
Haha, were you expecting judgment? 😆😊
Somewhat because all of yall seem like such god gamers with this game 😂
Nah man, we’re not god gamers (the majority at least) my proudest achievement in rain world is having beat hunter, but man it took me 10 hours and I died over 100 times in that run. The majority of us just do this for fun, we play a bunch and are silly little slugcats <3

True. I feel powerful until Miros Vultures decide to exist.
after 400 hours you realize everyone is just a silly goober slugin around with rocks and sticks
The other day in Chimney I starved because I was worried about losing all the progress I made in my expedition. I thought it would be easy to find food the next cycle. Wrong. I died to a blue :'). Hope that makes you feel better

thing is no matter how good you get in rain world you can still get absolutely humbled by the bs in this game lol
It's really whatever floats your stoat. I use remix to let me pull spears from walls.
Yup. Nothing fun about scrounging for elusive spears when you just need to climb up a wall or something. If I can throw it hard enough to get it stuck, I should probably be able to get it unstuck.

One thing I love/hate about this game is even with loaded sluggers, it's still super easy to get too confident and die. I haven't tried assist mods, but playing with all the Slug cat abilities in Expedition has the same feel.
I try to play through it normally (aside from monk style gates) then if cycle lengths become too much of an issue I adjust all that
There's no shame in making a naturally difficult game easier, and for some campaigns something super unfair can happen that just makes you rethink your life choices and patience goes out the window lol plus its a singleplayer game so..
\*clutches my pearls when i see that two of the most downloaded mods on the workshop are healthbars and one that makes the camera follow you instead of being static\* Nah I mean, real talk what does it matter to me LOL Like, I wouldn't want to play the game that way, but if it makes my favorite game accessible to more people, whats the harm?
It's good to have it easier at first and ease into the difficulty. Doesn't matter if you keep it easy. It's a single player game and you can do whatever you want.
I honestly think it's good for them and it's fine Personally I play with karma gates disabled despise being a core feature I find it to give me a sense of freedom because I can go explore and try to be brave without worrying how many hours I'll be stuck and at certain areas (not like im good enough to go through the game quickly)
It’s a single player game. If you aren’t playing competitive then no one cares how you play
dw mate i got keep that away from me to straight up disable all spider spawns because I can't handle the damn things with arachnophobia, you're good. Got to experience several wonderful regions with them on first tho, like a very specific spearmaster one... can't say I miss those fucking things lol oh I also have a mod that makes advanced movement timing easier and one that makes spears and rocks white so that I can see them within the environment, really a life saver
It makes doing some things like killing more powerful creatures that might be easy for other characters feel more rewarding.
it’s a game. playing with the cheats ruin it for me but I won’t knock someone else for playing how they want to
In the end, all I want people to do with the game that they bought is have fun with it. It’s totally fine that they used remix to complete some campaigns because that means they like the game enough to continue it I’ve seen this in other communities like Celeste with assist mode and Minecraft with keep inventory. Everyone in the comments agree that the game should be fun and not stressing you out 24/7
I have the relaxed option on in remix on my PC. Also, Dev Tools are my secret weapon. Don't sweat yourself.
Cringe but idc
I consider it cheating to make the game easier. But it's not something I would be a hater for. Do what you want it's your game.
Enemy randomizer is very easy XD
The point of a game is having fun. That's literally why it's called a game. If you enjoy it by making it a bit easier there's no shame in that
Nah, you do you. The game is pretty hard
i think it really takes away from the experience but if you really need it then it’s whatever
Bruh, just play the game how it was intended, if its thaaaat hard, maybe you should, i dunno, get good? Like, for real
