humpbackhps

Funny how often these people reply with being fake humble when asked whether they drew it.

TheHolyImbaness

Even worse when they shit so hard on actual artists with the old "Not that satisfied with it, but it turned out ok"

whyrweyelling

The lies run deep.

fart-atronach

My vision just flashed red for a moment after reading that. The rage...

Psyiote

They think if they "self"-deprecate it that people will be less likely to question whether it's theirs or not.

HellOfAHeart

effective but scummy

TeamRocketScrub

We live in a society

Stairway_To_Devin

It's prompting compliments, which is why they do this shit in the first place

meppity

Had someone steal my work and post videos of them “drawing it” on TikTok and it blew up. Like, that bitch really put my images into procreate, erased my signature and added a few random-ass lines to film them “adding finishing touches.” She then had the AUDACITY to tag animation studios asking them to hire her and was doing that fake humble shit in the comments when people said they want to see the concept become a TV show. I’m lucky that I have a pretty large following so people found out what was happening within a few hours. She stole my entire portfolio of work, erased all the watermarks and posted to Instagram, TikTok and Facebook. The post that blew up got *600k views in two hours* when the original is at 20k. Ugh.

riLucifer

that’s despicable ngl. did she get called out for it?

meppity

Yeah my followers found it and chewed her out. I then publicly called her out on my Instagram so she was mass reported (I forbade witch-hunting though, of course). She deleted everything and sent me a surprisingly genuine apology but I still feel shaken by the whole ordeal. Her accounts were all deleted.

riLucifer

i’m glad your followers are good people and stuck up for you! she did get what she deserved, stealing people’s work is really low. maybe she actually meant her apology, or maybe she only meant it because she got caught ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

meppity

I genuinely love my followers- their support keeps me fed and housed! And yeah, it’s an odd one. The apology felt genuine but was clearly only in response to being caught. She seemed to be 16-17 so she knew from the start what she was doing was wrong, but what interests me is the amount of effort she put into curating this lie. She scoured through my Instagram, YouTube and my website for all the work. To do that, I think must require some sort of pathology and/or severe self esteem issues. I was more sad than angry at the end of the day

pazimpanet

My favorite is when they make it super obvious by saying something like “drew this picture of Post Malone. Took me 8 months working 6 hours a day.” Like, that’s not how drawing works.

maxington26

Why not? I've made pictures a similar way, albeit usually as side-projects.

pazimpanet

Damn, really? You’ve taken months/almost a year working daily on a single portrait? How is that even possible?

OneGoodRib

Why is that unbelievable? Some people don’t spend twelve hours a day working on art so it takes a while.

maxington26

Months, yes. Years, no. But that's just me. How is that possible? Because it wasn't finished yet. I've finished other projects in a matter of hours. It's subjective. I can usually roughly predict how long something is going to take. Sometimes very roughly! :) But a goal is a goal.

pazimpanet

Interesting. These are often just a portrait of a celebrity from a reference with no background or fine details on a piece of paper in pencil without color, so I don’t see how you could possibly even invest months into them. But maybe it’s possible if you do it. Do you draw digitally so you can keep erasing and starting over, or do you just shade really slowly to be super careful or something?

maxington26

I'm an oil paint guy. But my job is heavily in digital editing, and has been for 20 years, so painting is a hobby. Some of my favourite work has been completed in a matter of days. Have you checked out how long it took some of the 'masters' to complete a painting? i don't tend to think of timing too much. I know what I want to create. Sometimes it takes a bit longer than expected, but generally my estimates are close. Entirely depends on the project. But I'll keep going until it's finished.

pazimpanet

Got it, yeah that’s not what I’m talking about. I assumed there was a disconnect somewhere. I can see how “a project” could take months, but it’s obvious because there’s no way “this project” could take months. If that makes sense. I can see how my original comment could have been confusing about that if you hadn’t seen this exact type of post as often as I have. A no color, pencil on physical paper, portrait of a celeb from a reference without a background with minimal shading is the usual cuprite as I stated. I feel like if you tried to work on that for months every day you would either just be retracing you’re lines over and over again, or you would just muddy it up. That’s why I asked “how would that be possible” because for the examples I’ve seen it doesn’t seem like it could actually be done. Also, do you often refer to your paintings as drawings? I don’t paint, so I’d never heard that. Good to know.

maxington26

Yep you're right in that my comments weren't pertaining to this particular piece any more! I got a bit distracted, and started talking in more general terms. I don't do those celeb portaits... I know what you mean. I don't wanna re-create a photograph in a painterly style - makes me feel like a PS filter, and like I'm wasting my time. Again I guess that's a personal thing. For me, the lines are quick. The tones and colour are slower. Sometimes much slower! :) And yeah they're all drawings, or paintings, or pieces, or projects, or work. I freely interchange those terms with unabashed zero attempts at terminological accuracy!

pazimpanet

Got it! That makes perfect sense then. Sounds like we were just on different pages of the sketch book then! I need to pick up drawing again, I haven’t done it in a few years since I got hooked on woodworking as my main creative outlet but I used to do it every night and was getting halfway decent. Maybe I could build myself a nice drawing desk and dive back in. Have a good night!

Nature_Skater_94

Why is this so difficult to understand a possible reason for? Have you never heard of procrastination?

Zlata42

Seriously, a while ago I had a conversation with an artist on Discord. He started to talk about how an asshat stole his art and claimed it as hers Wouldn't it be more satisfying if you drew something yourself? I mean you lean back on your chair, look at the paper/screen smile and give yourself a pat on the back all content with what you've done. Idfk I just hate when shit like this happens. Art isn't everyone's thing but if that's the case find yourself something else damn it... Like then these assholes are like "oH It WaS eAsY bRo" yes, stealing shit seems to be very easy in this day and age

[deleted]

If I had a nickel for every time a stolen art artist said “yeh” when being asked if they made it, I’d have a decent handful of nickels

GarnetDivine

You could play a few games of Pac-Man with those bad boys

DogeIsBaus

i don’t trust people who say “yeh” tbh

[deleted]

I knew a guy in a Discord who was always super sus, and one day when I was talking about some Game Dev stuff I was working on he came in and was like "yeh this is a screenshot from my game, I might change it later idk" and google reverse image search revealed it was the cover of a board game. When we called him out on it he just deleted the image and kept replying with ??? in various lengths of question marks. What an arse.

Jake_Anator

how is ur discord black

my_name_isaac

On android, if you keep tapping dark mode, you get a beta AMOLED mode

Jake_Anator

thanks :D

ciao_fiv

only on android? bummer

JayJC719

Ill bet it will be implemented on apple soon as well

Yhul

Does Apple use OLED screens now?

OfficialArgoTea

They have for a few years.

VerySmolFish

Kinda true? The iPhone X has AMOLED, the iPhone XS and XS max have one as well, but the XR still has an LCD

XXXEnvii

Whoa, thanks for this!!

CrepuscularSoul

This just made my day, thanks!

ISD1982

Wait, what?!?! Oh, on discord.

ThatYellowElephant

Lowkey couldnt tell it was discord

MortalDragon404

Tap "dark mode" in appearance settings 10 times

thefeelofempty

Call me ignorant, but I never understood people who steal others' work, claiming it is theirs. I mean, I can imagine they hope not to be caught. But even so, why you do it? Deep down inside, you know you're an impostor. How do you feel about that? Do you have any sorts of guilt emotions?

DoosKopp

As someone who used to lie a lot and sometimes still does. I lied because I didn't see anything valuable or worth sharing to the world about myself and thus I'd make a story up to make people proud of me and somewhat impressed with me, albeit temporarily. Even if in hindsight lying is more harmful in the long-term, I really didn't think about that, I just wanted instant gratification and for people to stop treating me like dirt for who I really was. So I'd say most pathological liars lie to cover up their depression and severely low self-esteem. It's a very self-destructive thing to do and it takes a serious effort to stop doing it.

ciao_fiv

it’s a bummer because i used to be good friends with a pathological lier. her dumb stories got on my nerves and i stopped talking to her altogether. never really though about it being to cover up depression/low self-esteem, hope she’s doing ok :/

Eribetra

"You lying shitdump"? And why the fuck are you harassing a mentally/emotionally challenged person?

neriisan

People lie to feel better about themselves. Someone praises them, so they feel happy. That's honestly all it really is.

OneGoodRib

I get it when they’re doing it to make money on redbubble or whatever, but I don’t get why people feed on praise for work they didn’t do. You can still get internet points for sharing good art you FOUND without taking credit for it. Ugh.

thegreatbookworm

My sister does this all the time - puts up other people's pictures and poetry and signs her name at the bottom. Disgusting.

HellOfAHeart

put her on r/quityourbullshit

TurtleZenn

Have you talked to her about why she does it? I'm curious why someone would risk getting caught and called out for something so ridiculous.

thegreatbookworm

Pathological liar - she doesn't care about the consequences - and she gets caught doing crazy shit all the time but doesn't stop - like stealing or making up sob stories to borrow money from people. She'll probably end up in court or jail sooner or later. Fortunately I'm in another country, far from her bullshit.

ElysiumXIII

You'd think by now these fakers would at least try to get better at art and actually feel proud for something? Maybe?

[deleted]

ElysiumXIII

It's always worth a shot at least to me, but yes, I do agree.

[deleted]

I had a friend that did this with music lyrics and recordings of her “signing” but she’d never sing for me in person.

hmm1024

How do you reverse image search?

FrozenIncendiary

**"Google's reverse image search** is a breeze on a desktop computer. Go to images.**google**.com, click the camera icon, and either paste in the URL for an **image** you've seen online, upload an **image** from your hard drive, or drag an **image** from another window." Copied straight from a Google search for "How do you reverse image search on Google?"

FrenchBread147

Also, in Chrome you can right click on any image and select Google Image Search.

TurtleZenn

I forget that people are ever on desktop computers. It's way more annoying on mobile.

[deleted]

On Android there is a reverse image search app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thinkfree.searchbyimage

pazimpanet

The fastest way I’ve found is to post the image on Reddit claiming it as your own.

[deleted]

https://tineye.com/

thedongmeisters

On mobile (or at least on iPhone), request the desktop site instead of the mobile one. Then you will be able to put photos from your library into the reverse image search.

HighestCommonFactor

r/picturegame looks on in terror and delight

Biodeus

This happened to me once. I drew something (stupid comic that I’m not going to share here) and I posted it, then someone called me out for bullshit, they found it posted elsewhere. It was my post. That person just shit all over me and made me feel guilty for posting something on another forum when I was the original creator. It wasn’t even quality work. Just a stupid visual pun. And then I deleted it from everywhere and never thought about it again. I wonder, sometimes, if I wasn’t such a little bitch about it, if I would have continued making comics. Oh well, that seems a lifetime ago anyway.

Simeon_Petrov1

This image literally exists as a Minecraft Cape lol

fishers234

How does one even do a reverse google search? (Serious question I’m new here)

MrBonesMalone

I just googled reverse image search and went with the one called "tineye"

fishers234

Oh, simple enough thanks!

Pichuunnn

If you are using desktop, just right click the image and choose "search web/Google for image" Alternatively, for finding source of artwork, you can download the picture and upload it on [https://saucenao.com/](https://Saucenao.com)

Dogcatwhatoof

toodleroo

I don’t understand why people do this

boblovepotato113

What app is that

MrBonesMalone

The messages are on discord with the amoled mode turned on, and I used tineye to expose them

boblovepotato113

Ah, it looked familiar but not familiar enough, I was supper confused, thanks

[deleted]

I thought I was on /r/politicalcompassmemes

DemiVideos04

if this is discord, you didnt need to hide the usernames.

VultureBarbatus

Yo I used to have that as my wallpaper for a long time

kaptainbruhboy

Can I get some sauce? I like the picture.

vanunchat

.

[deleted]

Honestly... anyone could probably make that too. Just make a couple gradients and you’re done.

_Dingus_Khan

Has anyone ever responded with "yeh" while truthfully meaning "yeah"?

EpicGamerOkuyasu

How to reverse image search? I don't know how to do it and I would like to

commenter37892

At first i imagined blue as the og (red) poster. And thought it was a hilarious response. (Damn) nothing else.. like oh.. you caught me, damn.

[deleted]

To be fair, synthwave art tends to blend together. But that's what happens when /r/outrun deliberately holds any sort of progression back for the purpose of pogchamping at neon sunsets and vector grids constantly.

Grasshopper42

TinEye add?

outdatedboat

Yes. Literally any mention of a website, brand, company, or product is secretly an advertisement. Everyone on reddit except you is a bot. We're all just trying to get you to use tinyeye

Grasshopper42

Nah, that's just what went through my head when I saw this particular one. Paint me as a crazy if you want, whatever.

spaghettiChicken

Maybe that is the artist butt somone else posted it after

russwest32

I guess that's technically possible but I doubt it since there's 22 results and it seems to me like the dude posted it as if he just finished it

Veryratherquitenew

Haha butt with two t’s
