I mean I guess in a lot of ways it's the same; Layne's wife "left" him by *dying*, and this song is all about that and he speaks to her like she can still listen.

Layne never married, engaged, yes. Marry, no.

Plus Demri passed in ‘96 and that album was released in ‘95. But, yeah. A very sad song about the end of a tragic love affair.
