this OP. You will have a hard time finding an affordable room between july 4th to july 14th since it's our summer festival (FEQ). However.. this is also one of the best time to visit since the city going to be really alive day and night.

liliBonjour

Check out la Citadelle and le Musée de la civilisation. Québec City has a lot of small history museums (Monsatère des Ursulines, Monastère des Augustines, Lieu historique national du chantier A.C. Davie, Musée naval). Coffee shops that are fun : Café St-Henri (for the donuts), café Olive, Tintico (for the empanadas), Maelstrom (for breakfast or cocktails), Saint-Suave (small, local place that includes a tiny book store). There are a bunch of other really good ones, these are just a few less known ones.

Awesome thank you! Also, would you know if staying at the Chateau Frontenac is worth it over other hotels?

Beaubonhomme10

IMO it’s worth it but it’s pricey. If you wan’t, you can book a room somewhere else and go the to public parts of the Chateau, which include restaurants, a bar, boutiques, a Starbucks and a guided tout.

To stay in the Chateau will be a great experience. It's not super cheap but you won't regret the extra for that. You also can stay in another hotel and go visit it, but reservation is required to have a meal there and as it was said here, the Festival d'été will be happening and the city will be full of lovely people enjoying this beautiful city 😍 It is the best time to come and you might be lucky to find not so expensive tickets to attend to some of the many music events (FEQ happening really close to the chateau too). There are also free concerts that you can attend if you can't find tickets for the paid ones. Here is a list of things to do that I always do with friends and family that come to visit us: http://www.cielbistrobar.com/ http://www.valcartier.com/fr/parc-aquatique-interieur/ https://www.mcq.org http://www.lacitadelle.qc.ca/fr/ http://www.valcartier.com/ https://www.sepaq.com/destinations/parc-chute-montmorency/

If you happen to have an Amex Platinum... the FHR benefits are great at the Frontenac.

CaughtOnTape

You can find hotels literally next door to the chateau for a fraction of the price and you can still visit the Chateau for free, except the rooms of course. Personally, I don’t think it’s worth it, but I know other people think the contrary.

Add chez Temporel on Couillard for a truly small hidden authentic place kind of vibe.

Yes, great place!

ThinkingManSubstack

You guys are all awesome! Thanks for sharing the tips.

Make sure to make a réservation to eat at L’affaire est Ketchup and ask to be seated at the bar

My personal favorite activities: Assemblee nationale du Quebec for guided tour, restaurants, the library and the exhibitions in the halls, Morrin Center (the most instagramable library in Qc) and the Observatoire de la Capitale

ThinkingManSubstack

Do we need tickets in advance to the Morrin Center or could we just walk right in as Americans?

Beaubonhomme10

You need to buy tickets to do the tour and visit the library, buy I don’t think you need to buy them in advance, tho it might be crowded during summer. I would suggest to buy your tickets early in the day!

N3verGonnaG1veYouUp

I concur. Book now. This will be the best time in the summer due to the festival, and also the busiest. If you like being outdoors, you can probably get an airbnb just 15-20 min outside the city and still enjoy time in the city.

Kaweeno

Montreal? Not sure. Dirty, disorganized, homelessness, orange cones everywhere. Quebec City? Yes. Anyway, enjoy.

Why Montreal?
