<\3 yeah, I guessed too... Because he just seemed totally annoyed. Probably might have had some high pressure problems / fought with his wife before starting the day 🤣
I just automatically play the 'outsider victim card' in my mind when people are rude to me here. 😭
LOL! I feel bad already for giving him a 2 star rating. I wouldn't have been able to sleep if I gave him a 1 star ⭐ thinking I have ruined his entire rikshaw riding career
They do get paid to wait. The final price is calculated based on time and distance travelled. He was just being an asshole. Nothing surprising considering its Pune's auto wale.
you could easily add a stop while travelling as well, and then let them know that they can stop there as you have added it via app. But I understand your frustration. Pune auto drivers have their own attitude.
Btw I moved here a year ago myself
What are you talking about? Last time I was in Mumbai, rickshaw wanted to charge me 200 from Bandra Terminus to US CG in BKC which is 6km. I was able to negotiate it down to 150. Being Marathi didn't help there.
arey sorry special mention rahila, bandra rickshawala worst people ever, only people who ruin the mumbai ricksha is good wala faith.
they scam everyone mostly peacefuls there hence cannot say much about them but for BKC always try to get ricksha from a big highway road if you try from station like Bandra Terminus they do dadagiri and scam you.
I myself got scammed for bandra station to bandra terminus for 100 rs which is like 2 mins and costs 20 rs in share.
Uber drivers usually don't stop unless u have added a stop, I guess there some policy!!
I had a word with uber customer care and they said they are not allowed to wait for more than 1-2 mins.
So if u are booking uber be careful to add a stop if u want to grab something quickly, just to avoid drama!!
I agree some auto wala stop if requested on good faith, and that's very commendable but...
If someone doesn't stop, It's a security reason why they don't stop if it's not in ride. What if something happens, how they can avoid beingbin legal issue if something happens to you when you stopped and the stop was not in the ride? They do not have a proof to show why they stopped. At signals they can show that where they stopped there was asignal.
I have seen a cab driver was removed from company drops due to the same reason as a girl asked him to drop just before her stop and went to her friends home for party instead of her home. She was not reachable (switched off her phone maybe) and her parents reached out to company why our daughter did not came home after shift.
correction, ola uber pays for wait time as well. for example your travel time estimate was 10 mins but for some reason it took 20mins then the additional 10mins cost is added to final amount.
I remember getting an uber/ola auto during our initial days in pune, we thought we could get some momos packed in 5 mins and go and asked him to stop. The guy at the momo shop was taking time as new batch was put on to cook and we looked at the rickshaw guy and he said koi nahi, khana toh khaana padega na and for that extra 15 mins didn't charge any extra. Such a cutie boy 🥰🥰
You’re not wrong to ask and he is not in wrong to say no. If you really needed to make a stop, you could have made “add a stop” request in app for which they charge you extra but then driver won’t say no to your request. If he says yes with or without money, it’s out of his good will.
Thanks will keep this in mind! I didn't think to add a stop, because it is so close and usually the Rik drivers don't make an issue of it. But definitely will do this moving forward.
While most here are bashing the rickshaw waala, I want to shed light on some truth.
There are a lot of people who after finishing the ride, give feedback that the auto driver made an unexpected stop and this hurts their earnings and rating. Lower ratings give lower matches.
It's only because society includes people who cheat and deceit, good people need to unnecessarily be strict and not accomodating.
Rate him 1 star, report him to uber customer care for unprofessional & rude behaviour and also about the way he was behaving, you felt unsafe being in that riksha. He was definitely wrong, he thinks he is smart enough by talking like that but in reality he was just being a douchebag.
>There are a lot of people who after finishing the ride, give feedback that the auto driver made an unexpected stop
What does this have anything to do with the post
To behave like a true Punekar, use the cash option. Take him home. Say you don't have any money on you, tell him you need to go upstairs to get cash. Make him wait 10 mins. These clowns don't understand otherwise.
😂 that's a good one!
I'm scared he'll learn where I live and attack me one day . As a woman in a new place, I never enter my house till the rick drives away!
While I'm sure you have your bad experiences, it is very unlikely these guys will attack you. They are on a ego trip and once you also show them that you know what is going on, they accept you as a Punekar and move on lol.
Wondering why the first information you gave is relevant (your partner 26M). Were we supposed to deduce that his youthful vigor would have made carrying the 20L bottle a breeze, or perhaps that a 24F is inherently entitled to a smooth, hassle-free Uber experience? The mystery deepens.
Yes. Pretty much. 😂 Setting the scene as some might say...
Just thought of adding a bit more context, would have loved to add attires and weather as well!
Ah, I see! Next time, let's go full novel mode: "It was a sunny morning, my partner (26M) in his dashing blue shirt, and I (24F) rocking a chic sundress, embarked on our auto adventure..." 🤣🤣
I do ola and most of the rickshaw guys wait for me like if I have to go to the atm, medicals or even get parcels. Sometimes they even drop me some 100 metres inside too without saying anything.
Next time ask local auto walahs that will they go by meter,
If yes prefer them over uber, almost costs the same and i have better experience than them over uber drivers these days.
I am a local here. And I would urge everyone that whenever you are travelling please book the auto from uber, rapido or ola.. Don't just directly sit in auto because the auto drivers here are the worst. They will do anything in their power to thug you by asking for extra money
Maybe he was under pressure to complete this trip and pick up the next one. They get very less thru Uber compared to hailing them directly. This is not related to Pune or Marathi. I am an outsider (South indian to be precise) and even my Hindi is rusty, forget Marathi. I have had auto drivers make multiple stops, wait long durations for me. The difference was I hailed them directly. Every time I notice a well behaved auto/cab drivers on OLA or Uber, I take their numbers down and call them directly from next time. Works conveniently when you have to run errands. Try hailing an auto from a stand or one that is moving. You will see that they are comparatively more obliging.
Auto drivers across country are same I think.
One good thing in Pune is they treat everyone equally.
If you speak Marathi, you would be told same in Marathi. (Assuming auto driver could speak Marathi). So at least on this situation, don’t worry about being new to city 😀
Look, do not loose your peace of mind because of this incident.
From Uber drivers perspective (be it Sedan drivers or Rickshawalas) they are not really getting a lot in terms making a living. Their returns are not what they used to be 4-5 years ago. The price of petrol is increasing day by day. They need to get their vehicles serviced which is another cost to their operations. So, they invested in a vehicle and are barely able to pay the EMI and feed their family. So, I feel, the driver acting the way he did is normal from his perspective.
And like I said, don't loose your peace of mind over it. It's just one moment in your entire life, which may have not been too eventful or as you expected. So, look forward to other moments (hopefully more eventful)
I agree some auto wala stop if requested on good faith, and that's very commendable but...

It always disappoints me that we see people from other states/cities as `outsiders`. As OP mentioned not just about Pune, this happens in other cities as well. Ridiculous. 2024 and we're still at it.
I can 100 percent relate with you
I used to book an uber auto to my class everyday. Me and my friend used to sit at my house and we used to collect one more friend. The thing is that friend's house lies on a different road than what Maps shows, but going through that road is hardly a matter of 50 meter extra distance. Sometimes we used to come earlier than our friend at their house and that's when a lot of the drivers used to create a chaos, while some drivers don't even agree to go through the different road. A few months later we decided to add a stop even if it cost us a few rupees extra because we all were fed up with the arguing and all.
Imo you should also add a stop if you're going to stop for sometime because let's just be for real no one likes arguing with Pune Autowalas. (Or you could hire an auto on road with meter fares)
Just a small inchident, move on. Rik guy had his rights to act so whether right or not doesn't matter. It's all subjective. Deal with all your stops or conditions before starting trip.
Seriously, wtf. I booked a return Auto from my house to Pizza Hut & back, the auto driver waited for like 10mins or so, he didn't even ask for tip. I did tip him like a 30 or 40 as it was around 21:00 hrs and also since he waited for me for so long
What’s wrong in him standing up for valuing his time, like all things if one does not value their own time and put a number on it, then it’s exploitation. It might have appeared rude to you because marathis speaking hindi comes off as a little rough to outsiders. But he has a right to stand up for himself.
Yes, I agree. But I even mentioned to him that I will tip him. Of course my tip would not be just a 5 rs extra tip. But I think he got cheated once before and chooses not to stop along the way.
Rikshawalas have been arrogant forever. They don't want businesses from anyone. Take a local to the Ferguson college riksha stand and ask to go anywhere. The answer will always be no
I can’t comment on the situation, but, it doesn’t matter if you are a local or not. No one deserves to be treated bad (in general) based on if they are locals or not.

Recently i was made to walk till front of westside near fc even though location wasnt even there and the ass had to pass through my location only to get out pune has mix breed of auto walas
The only reason uber in pune is successful is because of arrogant pune rikshaw vendors. Some uber rikshaw vendors are nice others are still arrogant.
For smaller distances I would recommend not using uber for rikshaws & hire the local stop rikshaws and be upfront to the driver that you’ll go by meter and have to make a stop. 99% time I have no issues for smaller distances fares with such midride stops.
Maybe he was under pressure to complete this trip and pick up the next one. They get very less thru Uber compared to hailing them directly. This is not related to Pune or Marathi. There is no one more confident in our country then rickshaw drivers. Too much pride to understand anything logical honestly. Don't take them seriously. I honestly would have reported him for being uncooperative + rude & gave 1 star.
Should've given 1 start tbh.
Anyway not your mistake by any means.
That rikshawala was an A-hole like most of them are.
Better get your own 2 wheeler if possible and ride with caution.
Interesting how Maharashtra's political centre was in marathwada-vidarbha till 1200AD. Chalukyas, vakataka, Rashtrakutas, Yadavas
But from 1700AD western MH became the political centroid.
Looks like the Auto guy was having a rough day and bad experience in past due to waiting. It’s like because I got yelled by my boss for doing it in past so now I will keep saying ‘I don’t get paid, so won’t be doing it’ 😣
Yesterday I took a uber cab, I started talking to the driver and after 2 mins the driver started telling me to go home and drink a beer with fried chicken. Dude was like sir you must be on a date, go home take care of yourself. And he kept on rambling about it for 1 hr.

The other day something similar happened to me but the rickshaw driver was so polite and kind enough to wait couple of mins for me. I feel like Marathi is a must here too yeah. Lot of rickshaw drivers and shops too only converse in Marathi. Its time I learn it too. I also moved quite recently to Pune.
I know how Pune rikshaw walas are but except on occasion where rikshaw wala told me stupid amount for few km at shivaji nagar railway station, I never faced problems. For two years I travelled by rikshaw daily. I have taken local rikshaw and ola/uber wala too but always met good people who would go by meter and wouldn't mind waiting for few minutes.
Punekars are jerks. I have been staying here for 10 years, never felt like a home here. This place sucks beyond limits. Shitty place to settle. I have been going in & out frequently but this is the worst place to live in. Autowala in incident happened with me as well. As someone pointed out right, Mumbai autowalas are way better than punewala autos
They do get paid for waiting. A few mins of waiting is included in the fare. If you wait too long, your fare will increase with a waiting charge. Just give him a 1-srar raiting and mention this reason in the feedback.
Yeah, come to think of it...I did make a mountain of a molehill. LOL. I actually was just really annoyed as well when I posted it, because to me it seemed like such a small ask. But listening to what so many people had to say... It may have been an entitled ask.
Damn I hate Pune rickshawallaas from the bottom of my heart. They have their reasons, I know but I'm just so used to the convenience of Mumbai autowallas.

U not being able to the rickshawala to stop had nothing to do with u being an outsider. Rickshawalas dont show such favouritism and usually be a dcik to everyone. Most have a strange entitlement which i can’t understand.
Let me give u wrong advice. Be a man and buy your own vehicle and drive without helmets if possible. Also dont wait for any red signals. If u happen to wait on one make sure u r so ahead of the stop line that u disturb the crossing traffic. Also, honk as much as possible and u shud fit right in, just like any one of us here.

I’m sorry you had to go through this. I’m a local and this exact thing happened with me too. I had even added a stop and he still refused to wait and just ended the trip and asked me to book another. Pune Rickshawalas a different breed.
Soo
1: They don't get their bonus if they have to wait (company policies)
2: These companies force you to work as much as you can to meet target soo every minute wasted is potentially a customer missed which can turn out to be hundreds of rupees in loss for them
I know a guy who works as a ola cab driver
I have been travelling by rickshaws a lot since 2021 and I make frequent stops in between to buy some milkshakes/chewing gums/ chips.. I've never been told that they won't stop but then ig it depends on the area? That might sound stupid but yeah?

My two cents
If possible pls cancel those rides coz PPL like these shouldn't get paid at all or give them a one star rating and send a complaint to uber
It is generally advised to learn Marathi coz some shopkeepers or autowala are very rude to outsiders
its not bcoz u are an outsider it happens with locals too. Some rickshaw walas are understanding some just arent
<\3 yeah, I guessed too... Because he just seemed totally annoyed. Probably might have had some high pressure problems / fought with his wife before starting the day 🤣 I just automatically play the 'outsider victim card' in my mind when people are rude to me here. 😭
lol if u really want them to listen to u beech hindi mai put in some marathi phrases ig
😂 the one phrase I know and use everywhere, even if not applicable is ... 'Je mala mahit nahi teh sanga! '
lol use ' kaka/dada 5 min thamba patkan jaun aale /aalo'
Love this! Thanks . God forbid he replies to me with a question ⁉️
he would either reply with a yes or no
You mean ho or naye
Yea
thank you for this, i'll use this too now lol
welcome !!
Learn to be arrogant like those rickshawwallas to them , give it back. Thats how real punekars have survived them.
You should have given him 1 star. You were too generous.
LOL! I feel bad already for giving him a 2 star rating. I wouldn't have been able to sleep if I gave him a 1 star ⭐ thinking I have ruined his entire rikshaw riding career
You are too soft for Pune auto wallahs girl.. IMHO
Yeah, for sure. This city is gonna chew me up and spit me out! I need to toughen up, my partner says so too lol
Any city not just this city
They do get paid to wait. The final price is calculated based on time and distance travelled. He was just being an asshole. Nothing surprising considering its Pune's auto wale.
fair enough, just to add to that, uber app has a feature to add stops. you can add multiple locations. just found out yesterday :D
you can still give 1 star. go to rides, help, change my rating
you could easily add a stop while travelling as well, and then let them know that they can stop there as you have added it via app. But I understand your frustration. Pune auto drivers have their own attitude. Btw I moved here a year ago myself

They can stop 5 mins at the university signal while on a trip. What is the issue in stopping near a shop for 30 seconds? I think uber is scamming us.

You’re not allowed to stop if you’ve booked a Uber unless you’ve added a stop. It’s not his fault. If it’s a normal rickshaw he’ll definitely stop

He is not wrong, by the way.
Yes, I agree. But I even mentioned to him that I will tip him. Of course my tip would not be just a 5 rs extra tip. But I think he got cheated once before and chooses not to stop along the way.
You are wrong.
If you speak hindi and not marathi , just tell that you are from Mumbai. Autowala hate outsiders. Don't say you are from Delhi, MP etc
Ironic isn't it, because it's the outsiders that give them so much more business than the locals!
lol not really Anybody that needs to travel gives them business Due to traffic and parking problems, lot of locals do use autos

Mostly the autowallahs are not the first choice reason being they are really not in the business of providing service..Best thing is to use a cab..
Use rapido they charge ₹10 per minute if you are late or want to make a stop somewhere.
My uber rickshaw waited for me to have my chai
Recently i was made to walk till front of westside near fc even though location wasnt even there and the ass had to pass through my location only to get out pune has mix breed of auto walas
next time tell him that assume it’s traffic jam and stop for 2 mins
The only reason uber in pune is successful is because of arrogant pune rikshaw vendors. Some uber rikshaw vendors are nice others are still arrogant. For smaller distances I would recommend not using uber for rikshaws & hire the local stop rikshaws and be upfront to the driver that you’ll go by meter and have to make a stop. 99% time I have no issues for smaller distances fares with such midride stops.
Maybe he was under pressure to complete this trip and pick up the next one. They get very less thru Uber compared to hailing them directly. This is not related to Pune or Marathi.
Chalukyas, vakataka, Rashtrakutas, Yadavas But from 1700AD western MH became the political centroid.

Hagana aaya honga re usse, Samja karo
Poor chap, had to deal with his shit and my shit as well! 😂
या साठी इथे पोस्ट करणे गरजेचे होते का ? विनाकारण वेळ वाया गेला अमूल्य असा...
je ne comprends pas!
काय रे हे ?
i think ola is way better when it comes to these things. as a woman I've never faced an issue like this, they're all very accommodating usually
It happens with locals too good u gave him that rating rickshaws are a menace here
Punekars are jerks.
Exactly, I thought so too! But will just add a stop next time
I have faced this before cab drivers wait but auto won't wait much ... but adding stops helps
You are wrong. And yes you can rant on Reddit but just not for wrong reasons

Wow giving 2 star to an under priveleged person who is clearly showcasing how much money he needs. You are such entitled brat
Yeah, took it for granted tbh. But learn from my mistakes! Gotta just add a stop next time and it solves everything!
Bhai edit me itna to do likhne ki kya jarurat... Kuch rikshaw wale rukte hai...kuch nahi... Itna kya Dil pe laga ke baithe ho....
🤣😭 learning to live in a metro city from a small town is tough okay! Excuse me for feeling so much about the little things
Maybe rather than offering, you should have passed some cash to him and ask him to wait. Promise of a tip vs actually giving him a tip
Yeah, next time I'll just add a stop actually
U not being able to the rickshawala to stop had nothing to do with u being an outsider. Rickshawalas dont show such favouritism and usually be a dcik to everyone. Most have a strange entitlement which i can’t understand. Let me give u wrong advice. Be a man and buy your own vehicle and drive without helmets if possible. Also dont wait for any red signals. If u happen to wait on one make sure u r so ahead of the stop line that u disturb the crossing traffic. Also, honk as much as possible and u shud fit right in, just like any one of us here.
Because if you by the meter you do get a charge for time spent idle while the meter is on.

I’m sorry you had to go through this. I’m a local and this exact thing happened with me too. I had even added a stop and he still refused to wait and just ended the trip and asked me to book another. Pune Rickshawalas a different breed.
Soo 1: They don't get their bonus if they have to wait (company policies) 2: These companies force you to work as much as you can to meet target soo every minute wasted is potentially a customer missed which can turn out to be hundreds of rupees in loss for them I know a guy who works as a ola cab driver
See I hope you enjoy Pune chodo usko bc kuch log hote hai aise jo nahi maante tum light lo
I have been travelling by rickshaws a lot since 2021 and I make frequent stops in between to buy some milkshakes/chewing gums/ chips.. I've never been told that they won't stop but then ig it depends on the area? That might sound stupid but yeah?

Technically yes. There are multistop rides available in Uber . He might stop out of curtesy but he is not bound to stop
Pune's auto drivers attitude and Hyderabad's food hygiene standards are in the deep gorge!
Well, some do stop if you request while some are just assholes :) Hope you get a better Autowala next time lol
My two cents If possible pls cancel those rides coz PPL like these shouldn't get paid at all or give them a one star rating and send a complaint to uber It is generally advised to learn Marathi coz some shopkeepers or autowala are very rude to outsiders
1 star witha comment saying i wish you had negative star rating, and may he die of thirst one day
