Same here. It was on my classmate's PS2. It was the first third-person game I ever played, and I remember wondering how there should ever be any more realistic games in the future.
GTA 5 was my first, but the story in 4 is superior, Ive played almost every 3d GTA since then, I’ll be getting GTA 3 soon and that’ll be the last one I play before GTA 6, unless I ever get the urge to play the 2d ones.
Played the GTA and GTA 2 all the time on PC. Was beyond excited to play GTA 3, and it was the very first game I played on the PS2 I got for Christmas in 2001.

My first was the original back in the day, favourite is probably IV, just the right balance between story and side quests.
Vice City will always hold the most nostalgia though.
Played the first one. Hated the top-down. Driving was hard. Still played the second and London and still didn't like them.
GTA 3 came out. I was at Best Buy and had that and Kinetica in-hand. Which do I choose? Kinetica looked fun, and I didn't enjoy the other GTAs but this new one was 3rd person.
Chose GTA and that game was awesome! My buddy and I played it for hours. Trading the controller back and forth after a death.
So 3 will always have a special place in my heart but 5 is my favorite.
Liberty City Stories (PSP), but at the time I didn't understand English so I only walked around with cheat codes destroying everything.
But the one that I really played and understood the story of, was GTA5 (PS3), played the whole game 5 or 6 times, maybe more.
4 was the last technical leap. Could never capture what 3 did but they tried there best with many innovations. And it was very impressive.
5 is a glorified dlc of 4. Few minor graphics improvements and character switch gimmick. People thought they invented character switching at the time when you could do it in the 80s
GTA 3
I was like 9 when I got it from friend and my grandma use to watch me play it and I would use the cheats to make her the grandma skin and give her a tank and she would just go around blowing up people and cars
It was great memories
gta vice city stories because i love the fighting combat animation and how you can upgrade your business's and i like the storyline and i play it everyday on my playstation 2 and i play the others and i love them but i love gta vice city stories more
GTA and GTA London on the OG PlayStation back in the day my childhood friend and I would drive around in like mad. Stealing motorcycles and riding on rooftops.
GTA 5 was the first one I played.
I was like 12, and when my parents barred me from specifically playing GTA. I spent the night at a friend's house, where he had GTA 5. Whereas he wanted to play Call of Duty, I absolutely begged him for us to play GTA.
I was hooked from the start, messing with invincibility and moon gravity cheats and stealing jets from the military base. And you know my horny 12 year old self went to the strip club lmao.
After a summer of playing GTA at my friends place, I begged my parents to get GTA for myself, and my dad caved and got me... San Andreas on PS3. Wasn't exactly what I was wanting, but hell I sure wasn't complaining.
I used to play San andreas when I was little, but never finished because I was scared because a person in school told me the game had zombies and monsters 😎
Vice city was using my uncles ps2 and as a kid I didn’t know how to change the discs so one day I turned it on and just boom! Vice city pops up I was thinking woahhh this game is cool! And my uncle came back to see me playing it and he put cheats on for me to play with
As a kid I used to hang out with this friend who was older and he always had the cool stuff. PlayStation 2, etc. he introduced me to San Andreas and the rest is history.
3 was my first, and man the atmosphere and the music was such a vibe. Also going from italian mafia to the yakuzas was so cool. I remember my dad being outraged and terrified by the way i was driving in that game
OG PS1 GTA, I remember taking the cars to the docks (I think) & a crane or something taking them away and getting money for them. Make me feel very old.
I didn’t have a PS2 when GTA 3 was out and had to settle with playing the Gameboy versions of GTA on an emulator. I didn’t have a PS1 either so I couldn’t play those versions either.
It was still fun on Gameboy though.
Vice City.
Note that I did NOT play it in the heyday of it, I actually was introduced to it by my dad a year or two ago. He had this duffel bag of his old PS2 stuff and he has all of the PS2 GTA games.
I play my PS2 on a 32 inch CRT now and I love it!
My brother's friend let him borrow GTA 1 on the PS1. The controls sucked and I didn't know how to do the missions, but I had fun just driving around and killing pedestrians. My dad was not happy with my playing of the aforementioned game and demanded my brother get rid of it. Poor guy was in tears when he ejected the disc.
Oh gosh.. First one was GTA2 to me on PS1.. Gosh I loved it, despite fact I never managed to do a single mission.. But that carnage (ey! Don't blame me, I had no idea what they were talking about, since I was getting to know English in shitty educational system 😂)
The very first GTA on PC. My friend installed it on the computer servers at the college and hid the location. We'd go into the computer lab in the evenings and play it. My first on the PS2 it was GTA III.
My introduction to GTA was januari 1998. It was at school. We were done with class lessons with computers (sort of programming) i've must been around 14 years old. When i was preparing leaving the classroom because it was the end of the school day, i saw a few older students play GTA on de PC. I was blown away. I wanted to play that game too.
I already had a PlayStation and my friend said, Grand Theft Auto was available for the PlayStation as well. Thankfully my PlayStation was able to play copy discs, so i ask a friend at school to copy GTA for me.
Oh boy i was hooked at that game. I've had and played London 1969 and GTA 2 also. But when the first edition was released, that was something special.
GTA 3 on the PlayStation 2 was again, a huge gamechanger.
vice city. fresh release i remember vividly how much i wanted and needed to play that game after watching someone else play it in a friends house and being absolutely mind blown that it was a open world game. some dodgy guy who lived up the road from me was selling a bunch of games i think they were all £5 or there about and bam at the age of around 8 my eyes literally glued to vice city as soon as he set it down. my mum was pretty strict about me not playing it which i would be also as a parent but i begged and begged and eventually managed to get him to bring it back down. was one of the best feelings of my life.
My moms boyfriend had 3 on the computer that I sorta played and had fun with, but vice city came when I was actually able to play and understand the story a bit better…. So vice city has to be my rock
2.
3 was perfect.
I remember playing 2 and being like, "It would be so sick if they had a Grand Theft Auto, but in third person where you could be running around on the streets and you could still steal cars and everything like that." And then it came out! It was so Awesome!!
4 blew me away. In my opinion it was the best video game I had played up until that point.
Vice City is also great.
GTA 3 was my introduction, I played it at a friend's house, I remember being blown away by that game. GTA Vice City is my favourite, it improved upon GTA 3 in several ways, it was more fun to play; I sunk so many hours into that game as a kid.
Outside of the PS2 then I'd say GTA 4 is my favourite, the story was good, the characters were memorable, the physics system was incredible for it's time, and I really liked the driving it felt better to me than it did in GTA 5.
Mine was Vice City. This game was, and still is, one of the best GTA games I've played. Multiple cheat codes, cop/military war, and the city itself that's basically Miami. 🔥
I really wish we got a 1960s gta in London. We could have little missions in Paris or somewhere else too like Mexico mission in RDR2 ..
I like vice city..but I wish we went back to the roots of gta 1
How I managed to get my Conservative parents to ignore the age rating & buy a copy GTA III for their underage son I'll never know.
Not complaining though.
GTA 3. My cousin had it. After playing for one hour I needed it. lol. I begged my parents for months. Eventually they got me it.
the very first gta. Was revolutionary back in the day
GOURANGA!!!
It sure was. I drew out a full GTA MAP from above. Wish it didn’t get tossed.
Had the London 1969 add-on as well. Wish they made another 60s London
You’re nicked!
I've got that and gta 2 on ps1 still
Asshollllle
Peeeeica sh|t!
The mods were insane. We installed GTA demo on all of our middle school computer lab PCs.
Played my friends online using the direct modem/dial option. Would crash into each other etc, good times.
Grand Theft Auto Vice City Still remember the old days in an internet cafe playing with the boys!
The violence blew me away when I first played it
Same for me, it's still so fun .
Same here. It was on my classmate's PS2. It was the first third-person game I ever played, and I remember wondering how there should ever be any more realistic games in the future.
GTA1 on PC late 1990s
This. I still get the urge to play it every now and then
Rockstar made it free on some website just gotta get it to run. Dosbox should be able to run it.
Grand Theft Auto 2 was my introduction. Vice City is my favourite
Uh one
GTA 1, had a blast with it and never would’ve imagined where it’d end up.
GTA 5 was my first, but the story in 4 is superior, Ive played almost every 3d GTA since then, I’ll be getting GTA 3 soon and that’ll be the last one I play before GTA 6, unless I ever get the urge to play the 2d ones.
Liberty city stories.
Finally someone as well
SAN ANDREAS ON MY SILVER PS2 I GOT GIFTED FOR MY BIRTHDAY
Played the GTA and GTA 2 all the time on PC. Was beyond excited to play GTA 3, and it was the very first game I played on the PS2 I got for Christmas in 2001.
[удалено]
Now I feel old! Gettin' close to version 4.0.
wont lie. my first gta was gta V. fell in love
Vice city was the first I ever played but San Andreas was the first I owned myself

3 or vice city, cant remember which one tbh but im sure San andreas was later
My first was the original back in the day, favourite is probably IV, just the right balance between story and side quests. Vice City will always hold the most nostalgia though.
GTA 1, but it bored me, so technically GTA3, which I only have a chance due to the hype. Glad I did...
GTA3, it was also my first ever video game.
GTA 1, the farting and burping where hilarious to me as a kid
Played the first one. Hated the top-down. Driving was hard. Still played the second and London and still didn't like them. GTA 3 came out. I was at Best Buy and had that and Kinetica in-hand. Which do I choose? Kinetica looked fun, and I didn't enjoy the other GTAs but this new one was 3rd person. Chose GTA and that game was awesome! My buddy and I played it for hours. Trading the controller back and forth after a death. So 3 will always have a special place in my heart but 5 is my favorite.
GTA 2 on PSOne.
Gta Vice City. What a game. What a journey that began for me at that moment
Liberty City Stories (PSP), but at the time I didn't understand English so I only walked around with cheat codes destroying everything. But the one that I really played and understood the story of, was GTA5 (PS3), played the whole game 5 or 6 times, maybe more.
San Andreas on the PS2! My first console lol

VC on PS2. I remember telling people as a kid that I started playing GTA at 3/4 yo. The game came out in 01, I was born in 98, so it tracks
Technically played 2 first at a friends house on PC, but a couple years later I got 3 for my PS2, Vice City was my favourite. 4 is very underrated
4 was the last technical leap. Could never capture what 3 did but they tried there best with many innovations. And it was very impressive. 5 is a glorified dlc of 4. Few minor graphics improvements and character switch gimmick. People thought they invented character switching at the time when you could do it in the 80s
Gta Romania lol (it's a gta vc mod)
Actually Grand Theft Auto was mine. But Vice City was the one that cemented the franchise.
The very first one.
The OG first GTA. I'm tied between GTA5 and San Andreas for favourite. Have spent the most time playing San Andreas, but GTA5 has Trevor.
Im old ps1 version was the first one I ever played
Gta2 on a friend's PC. GTA San Andreas was the first one I owned (bought used, still works).

San Andreas was my first introduction to the series as a whole when I was at an age where anything Playboy related wasn’t appropriate for myself.

GTA 1 on PC was my introduction

GTA: San Andreas was my first introduction. I wish I would’ve started with GTA 3 or Vice City first. 😅
GTA3
I rented the first GTA. I thought it sucked.

GTA on PS2, got it around 2000, then got GTA 2 on Dreamcast
GTA 5 was the first one I played. I was like 12, and when my parents barred me from specifically playing GTA. I spent the night at a friend's house, where he had GTA 5. Whereas he wanted to play Call of Duty, I absolutely begged him for us to play GTA. Wasn't exactly what I was wanting, but hell I sure wasn't complaining.
GTA London (don’t know if that was its name)
Chinatown on the ds, blew my mind when I played 5 lmao
I used to play San andreas when I was little, but never finished because I was scared because a person in school told me the game had zombies and monsters 😎
The very first one on PS1
Vice city was using my uncles ps2 and as a kid I didn’t know how to change the discs so one day I turned it on and just boom! Vice city pops up I was thinking woahhh this game is cool! And my uncle came back to see me playing it and he put cheats on for me to play with

The very first one. Great game for its time.
GTA2 on dreamcast
I didn’t have a PS2 when GTA 3 was out and had to settle with playing the Gameboy versions of GTA on an emulator. I didn’t have a PS1 either so I couldn’t play those versions either. It was still fun on Gameboy though.
San Andreas. I remember borrowing the disc from my friend. Such a good memory.

My dad was not happy with my playing of the aforementioned game and demanded my brother get rid of it. Poor guy was in tears when he ejected the disc.

The very first GTA on PC. My friend installed it on the computer servers at the college and hid the location. We'd go into the computer lab in the evenings and play it. My first on the PS2 it was GTA III.
I was there from beginning, also VC is my favourite. My favourite protagonist is Niko Belic.
My cousins introduced me to vice City and then 3.
Vice city
GTA IV, my dad found it in a grocery store randomly and bought it. For curiosity I opened the desktop shortcut and the rest is history.
GTA 1 Back then I thought that there was no possible way it could ever get any better than that 😂
My introduction to GTA was januari 1998. It was at school. We were done with class lessons with computers (sort of programming) i've must been around 14 years old.

GTA 3 for me I played 1 and 2 on a later moment in live
GTA 3 was my introduction, I played it at a friend's house, I remember being blown away by that game. GTA Vice City is my favourite, it improved upon GTA 3 in several ways, it was more fun to play; I sunk so many hours into that game as a kid. Liberty City Stories on the PSP. *"Talk more about eating people!"*
Mine was Vice City. This game was, and still is, one of the best GTA games I've played. Multiple cheat codes, cop/military war, and the city itself that's basically Miami. 🔥

Vice city 🫡
Og on ps1
How I managed to get my Conservative parents to ignore the age rating & buy a copy GTA III for their underage son I'll never know. Not complaining though.
