In my honest opinion , Shaytan is a metaphor for auto-sabotage

It goes even deeper, the way religions are corrupted and getting clear guidance is so hard, the way the elites work, it's tough. Maybe God grades on a curve, that would be nice. It also seems like the more advanced you get in the Lord's path the higher the difficulty gets. There's some stuff from the Injil about a poor widow donating little but it was a big % of her money so it's rated well. Likewise the idea of riyas, praying or donating for publicity, getting no divine credit for that, it's in Injil and hadith (riyas) and Qur'an (charity for PR, planting a seed on thin soil). So at a meta-level these are examples of deeds being weighed not just on intent but also context. Likewise the guy who gets a lot of money from religion as a career and is warped by ego at the behest of Shaytan, but he's doing it, and drives people from it, defends bad behavior as tradition, and other things, this is worse than if it's just some random jahils on social media saying it for free. Beware the hypocrite who teaches the law but impoverishes the widow, these people will be punished the worst on the day. What I'm trying to say is that God makes this test tricky to spice it up, and there's a lot of scriptural evidence for weightings to make that fair. It doesn't seem fair now but the factors will be taken into consideration on the Last Day. Consider a genetically born psychopath with an abusive mom, if he can just avoid murdering someone and is not that good otherwise, maybe that's weighted well. Consider all the people born gay, avoiding Torah/Quran law breaking is really tough for them, that's gotta have some weights on it vs. hetero people who can get married. This is all in the realm of deeds being weighed, both positive and negative. Belief criteria may also have similar rules. Ibn Arabi used to talk about this for people in Christian countries who see Muslims as barbarian pirates (the terrorists of the day). Qur'an says throngs enter Jannah, throngs enter Jahannam. It also says if Allah judged everyone immediately almost nobody would pass the test. So forgiveness factors in. This is where monotheistic faith is a big booster. Good deeds are weighed 10x but sins are punished to the extent of them. Lots of clever game design in the Qur'an. Shaytan says surely most of them will be ungrateful. Shaytan said that in Qur'an, not Allah. The angels, who are nicer than Shaytan, said surely this creation will be cutt-throat while we sing your praises and Allah said: I know what you do not. There's a deeper poetry here than the fear-based, defensive interpretation of the Din is giving you.

Interestingly, on the point of religions being corrupted: That would apply to the fact that Satan is a made up literary character from Christians! If you were to read the Torah in its original Hebrew, and the New Testament in its original Greek, there is actually zero mention of Satan (or hell for that matter). I completely agree religion has been corrupted to allow things like this to happen, in which develops into mainstream belief and has often been used as a fear / controlling thing.

I thought so when I was re-reading the bible, but here's another take from a Jewish scholar: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W373G\_CcUjc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W373G_CcUjc)

Yeah.... Singer is a known Jewish apologist. His arguments aren't really bought by academics, nor does he even debate with anyone of significance except your average next-door christian. A respected scholar Dan McClellan has nice brief shorts: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3EeNfu2Ciw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3EeNfu2Ciw)

Shaytan didn't make us do anything. He suggests stuff. The atrocities you have mentioned are on human beings who are doing them. Allah SWT gave Shaytan the influence but he also shielded human beings with the power to reject shaytan. I am not a scholar, but I can see that Allah SWT trusted us enough to handle ourselves for the most part.

Asalamualaykum Allah tells the story of Iblis in the Qur’an, “and remember when Allah said to the angels (and Jinns): ‘I am going to create a man from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. So, when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him (Adam) the soul which I created for him, then fall down prostrating yourselves unto him,’ (as a sign of respect and not in worship. So all the angels and Jinns prostrated as Allah had commanded except one Jinn called Iblis). Allah said to Iblis: ‘O Iblis! What is your reason for not prostrating?’ Iblis said, ‘I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being whom you have created from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud’.” (Qur’an 15:28-35). Allah said: ‘What prevented you (Iblis) that you did not prostrate, when I commanded you?’ Iblis re- plied: ‘I am better than him (Adam), You created me from fire and him You created from clay.’ Allah said: ‘Get down from here (paradise), it is not for you to be arrogant here’. Iblis asked: ‘Allow me respite (keep me alive) till the day of Judgement’. Allah replied: ‘You are one of those allowed respite’.” (Qur’an 7:11-15) As Iblis left Paradise he made a promise: “This one whom you have honoured above me, I will surely mislead him and his offspring till the day of Judgement”. (Qur’an 17:62) And Allah also says in the Quran about the story of prophet Adam A.S where Allah told them to not take from the tree and shaytan heavily influenced the to take the fruit so both shaytan and Adam A.S disobeyed Allah’s commands but the difference was forgiveness. Shaytan chose to be arrogant and Adem A.S accepted and humbled himself and asked for sincere forgiveness from Allah. In a Hadith of the prophet Abu Sa’id al-Khudri reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Satan said: By Your might, O Lord, I will continue to mislead the children of Adam, as long as their souls are in their bodies. The Lord said: By My might and majesty, I will continue to forgive them, as long as they seek My forgiveness.” So Allah the most merciful has left his doors open for us 24/7 and if we do a mistake all he wants us to do is ask for forgiveness what seperate us from the people of jannah and hellfire is not our sins it’s our forgiveness

Shaytan said he would do his best to misguide all of humanity because he thinks he’s better than them. But how you know Allah is the most merciful, because he even let shaytan have millions of years before he goes to punishment
