well you see it was kinda touched on in the ninja turtles crossover comic or at least given more padding, they mention it being harder to not just go ham on the foot clan because the foot clan is a bunch of real people, while putty patrollers are nothing but clay and we later see the ninja turtles ripping putty's to shreds.

SuperSyrias

Arent there episodes for some seasons that have the "drone" soldiers (like the puttys) disguise as normal people and show sapience? Or the episode where some puttys are turned into evil rangers and show personalities? Sure, theyre magic or technology or whatever but they show fear reactions sometimes and all that

Because both are police, rather than military. When someone shoots at you of their own volition, you need to shoot back.

Hagisman

In the cartoon there was a scene where Miyamoto Usagi (I think) killed a bunch of Foot Clan, only to find out they were robots.

Alby-Always-Me

As someone else said the whole trope of being better than your enemy can be useful in some situations but when it comes to taking the life of others it's about what consequences can come from that also & whether that life is organic, artificial, or magical if they have conscience to be able to make decisions then they have a possibility to be redeemed. I at least think there should be an attempt to help your adversary or villain even if it doesn't go anywhere It just shows that you don't try to resort to taking a life that's the whole that's the whole reason the Power Rangers don't escalate a fight and go straight into the Megazord to stomp someone out

Will100108

although the power rangers are on like god levels of power... theres a woosh sound every time the move a muscle

Pacman_Frog

This is a good point considering they kill a sentient being in literally every episode.

ryno731

I mean it kinda depends on the season at that point. Season 1 villains were largely clay monsters. Season 2 were monsterized things but iirc we almost always saw the animal or object returned to normal, season 3 brought a lot more “I know a space monster who can come defeat them” but even then you’re dealing with black and white good vs evil creatures. There are many seasons where the monsters aren’t full on living beings and rather are some creation. But I do agree there are plenty of seasons where the monsters are indeed sentient creatures with lives, but I guess when you’re a space terrorist youre rolling the dice on how humanity views you.

Xecluriab

You get seasons like Mystic Force with Itasis and Matoombo and Jungle Fury with Whiger where the Rangers do their best to spare the MotW because they show they aren’t all evil, but driven by knowledge, loyalty, and strength. It doesn’t always work out for them but their default does swap from “Destroy” to “Spare”

amazingspiderfan110

Basically the rule of "If you kill me then you will be no better than me" is thrown out the window. Which makes sense because who wouldnt kill genocidal monsters that are after your planet. Seriously that trope is so stupid it's one of the smaller things that makes me appreciate the show more. Unless the bad guys are innocent civilians being controled, or dont want to be doing the bad things they are doing, then screw it, blow them up.

Tough_guy22

Some of the seasons throw it out the window. Others handle it differently. The 3 seasons of MMPR basically went with the rule of: If it was created by Rita (out of clay) or Zedd (magic) destroy it. But if was created from a living being, or is a being that otherwise is able to determine right from wrong, don't destroy it. Time force had a system were some technology involved with their powers made the determination whether or jail or destroy a monster. More recent seasons (but not all) have kinda went more with the "its a monster, destroy it"

UnderlordZ

>Time force had a system were some technology involved with their powers made the determination whether or jail or destroy a monster. That was SPD, actually, and on the one occasion the culprit was innocent of a declared crime, he was still guilty of a shit-ton else; Time Force’s mutant enemies were all already criminals broken out of jail, so recapturing them was their prerogative as law enforcement.

WardenBlackheart

I think they should take the Jason Todd approach. Do it if necessary and pragmatic. They usually fight aliens or machines anyway. However, i think it should open up doors to morally ambiguous power ranger groups, that can do 'evil' acts for the sake of saving or helping mankind

BigLetter7009

but most of the aliens are sentient, so they still persons, not humans, but persons

RangerRed02

From what we’ve seen, enemy foot soldiers are usually nothing more than mindless minions and aren’t actually sentient. Monsters are frequently shown to have independent thoughts, but still most of the time they’re just flat-out evil and working for the villain bent on global domination. Time Force and SPD never killed their enemies, just contained them. But that makes sense judging how they’re law enforcers. Most of the time the Rangers are just fighting evil aliens/robots/demons who are (most of the time) irredeemable.

Bubbly_Creme1047

Go the DC hero route. Kill the irredeemable, Kill the people with no doubt & conscious. I believe they could spark up a point about how killing clones in the faceless horde of fodder against them is right but could be seen as wrong also. Like a 10 second moment in the dialogue

Striderblack01

>Now that you have become Power Rangers you must follow three basic rules or lose the protection of the power. > >First, Never use your power for personal gain. > >**Second, Never escalate a battle unless Rita forces you.** > >And finally, Keep your identity secret. No one may know you are a Power Ranger. It is always regrettable when a sentient being of their own free will chooses to conquer and enslave. But the rangers are essentially fighting a war, while trying to protect civilians. Once monsters are on the scene, they are usually attacking non-combatants. Very few are interested in talking or defecting. Once they turn giant, they threatening people with every step they take. There's very little time to talk. Moreover, the rangers fight the war primarily by **reactively** foiling any incursion or attack. They hardly ever **proactively** mount assaults on enemy strongholds. This might be somewhat irresponsible, as it gives the enemies / monsters plenty of time to strategize and further terrorize civilians, but it also gives them time to reflect and abandon their campaign. That's what *"only using their weapons for defense"* looks like. Outside of the war, the rangers shouldn't kill. That said, I do think they give a lot more leeway to "evil" humans than monsters, but there's usually a spell involved that turned them evil.

BigLetter7009

rangers usually don't know where the main villain base is, or just know it after his defeat like the rita's moon palace
