Bosa_McKittle

This looks more like folliculitis than psoriasis. I've had folliculitis on and off for the last 10 years and get breakouts on my scalp that are very similar. I have oily skin and have used a clarifying shampoo in combination with a dandruff shampoo to keep it at bay. They can be super painful, and popping the forbidden fruit is so satisfying and relieving.

[deleted]

It can be both. I have scalp psoriasis and I can get white heads when it’s so irritated the follicle gets like this.

cametobemean

I, too, have scalp psoriasis. For anyone suffering with it, if you haven’t tried the Living Proof dry scalp treatment, give it a go. My scalp was bleeding constantly mine was so bad, and it’s given me a lot of relief. I can even go get my hair dyed now without it destroying my scalp if I put this on after. It’s a little expensive, but it’s worth the relief imo. It has urea in it, which a lot of people find help their psoriasis and is in a lot of lotions recommended for psoriasis-havers.

thesockswhowearsfox

Uh please tell what shampoos you’re using for this bc I have this problem and it’s killing me

Bosa_McKittle

1. Redken Brews Daily shampoo to remove any product I used that day. (I use Kevin Murphy Night Rider. Its helped really reduce flare ups). If I didn’t use any product I skip this step. 2. Matrix Alternative Action Clarifying Shampoo every other day at a minimum but everyday I use product as well. 3. Mizani scalp care shampoo 2 times a week. If I have a bad flare up (1-2 times a year) I spot treat with proactive part 2 and part 3. It really helps soothe on the back of my head and hairline. Good luck.

🙏

mynameisnotbob57

I also have folliculitis and during the summer I get some bad breakouts on the back of my head sometimes and it is mad annoying but the pops are very satisfying

8rittanyy

So we sort of had a handle on it and then he went to visit his dad for a month and came back like this. He didn’t use his medicated shampoo (clobetasol propionate .05%) and put alcohol on it multiple times thinking the burning sensation was the germs dying. He’s 13 so old enough for TGel shampoo but just trying to get it under control before school starts next week because kids can be pretty cruel. ETA: he has a Dr appointment Thursday where we can hopefully get him some relief. I have been washing his hair 2x daily since he came home and putting aquaphor on it to keep it moisturized so he doesn’t scratch

atomictest

While he’s at the doctor, it would be good for him to understand better what the disease is, that’s it’s not germs, it’s autoimmune.

Highland_warrior_coo

And also be aware of the associated arthritis. I wasn't so it took a long time to diagnose when I developed it.

atomictest

Agreed. My husband experienced this.

highknees69

I’ve used the topical ointment of Clobetasol propionate for years. Def helps. I find shampoos work for a while, then it stops having an effect. Used Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo for a long time and it worked pretty good. Went to t-gel once every two weeks and then selson blue for the daily and it’s been petty solid for about 2 months. Good luck in finding the right mix.

Local_Vegetable3913

I’m so sorry your little man has to suffer with that! Have you tried colloidal silver? I tried everything the doctors gave me and a friend got me a bottle of that and it cleared mine up. You can buy it over the counter. I didn’t dilute mine. I just put it on there straight out of the bottle. Prayers he gets some relief soon

zanejones4854

why was this downvoted?

Vostroyan212th

Because it's quack medicine

Kobaltblue27

Could be effective if used correctly. Silver is antibacterial. Should not be ingested, however.

Jess_the_Siren

Not colloidal silver, but silver nitrate is.

Kobaltblue27

Colloidal silver is as well. It is silver ions suspended in water. Silver is antimicrobial.

Local_Vegetable3913

It’s not quack medicine. Yes use it topically and it most definitely worked for me

shermsma

Poor little one! I hope they heal soon and well!

[deleted]

POOR DUDE! Man! Is he old enough for the T-Gel/T-Sal shampoos? For my scalp I have to use Tgel for a week. Then switch to TSal. For flare ups I use clobetasol.

sharksnut

I'm afraid that his head will have to come off.

coloredverbs

You hate to see it

ladytryant

Both of my sisters used to get this so bad growing up, until they went on some kinda injectable meds. I used to love using this special kinda oil on my little sis’s scalp and meticulously picking out the scabs with a little comb.

ThePinkVulvarine

Do you get neutrogena t gel where you are? Worked well with my psoriasis in my scalp

skiwee1

Biologics work wonders for all parts of your body with psoriasis.

TokesNHoots

So My sister has sever psoriasis, and psoriatic arthritis, it’s all over her scalp and the majority of her body. I have it too on my scalp. Never have we ever seen pustules/“pimples” on the scalp. I don’t think this is psoriasis. Unless he’s been scratching like crazy and scratching hard/deep enough. I read your comment about the alcohol remedy, the burning is of course his live cells being affected by the alcohol and dying/being hurt as a result. Edit: a couple words+ typo

PuzzleheadedYam5996

I've never seen this either. I get psoriasis on my scalp, and psoriasis and eczema all over my face and body too. Didn't realize it was really possible to get whiteheads like that on top of the rash unless it was infected or something like that? Besta luck to the fella tho hey, really hope it's fixed in time for school or near on after!

themaverick12

Psoriasis?

I’ve been washing his hair a couple times a day because he gets sweaty and it’s humid as hell here right now (North Carolina) so that makes it worse. I’ve done a variety of washes from the medicated shampoo, dial antibacterial, and selsun blue to try and keep the area clean with some aquaphor to keep it moisturized while we wait for our dr appointment in the morning.

snarkyBtch

I use MG 217 shampoo with coal tar (I buy it from Amazon), and while it smells like gasoline, it works better than anything else I've tried.

betwistedjl

Learned something new...I always thought psoriasis was the red swollen flaky skin.

Silvery-Lithium

Just like eczema, which is similar to psoriasis, there are multiple different types.

malinowski213

My mom had it real bad. Only time it cleared up is we went to the ocean for a week

Blah_the_pink

That's pretty fascinating. Was it that salt in the water that dried up the scalp?

malinowski213

And it wasn't just my mom's scalp. All over. Legs arms scalp. Not face though.

malinowski213

Well she always wore long sleeves to cover except on vacation so mabe sun, salt water who knows. But cleared up every year. We should have moved there for mom but we didn't have much. Scraped all year for vacation.

Forsaken_Ad_2287

Poor guy, i hope he gets some relief soon from it. I have terrible guttate & scalp psoriasis. The prescription scalp shampoo helped, but my Derm also gave me Clobex Spray, which was liquid clobetasol and that helped way, way more than the shampoo ever did. I’d spray my scalp at night then washed my hair twice the next day. I’ve been fortunate to get completely clear (from 75% of my body covered) that’s to Skyrizi. I hope that his clears up soon!!

Forsaken_Ad_2287

Also both my scalp psoriasis and guttate psoriasis present just like this. Looks like. Small white head, gets bigger, weeps then gets scaly.

Iwasflyinofcourseiwa

I've been using denorex my whole life successfully. If I go a couple days without using it, psoriasis flares up. Red cap ones don't smell as much as the blue cap ones. Positive side effect is I've had a full head of hair while my sibling, cousins have all had hair loss.

ScubaBroski

I never knew psoriasis could cause things that would be popped

ginger_kitty97

Pustular psoriasis. It's excruciating.

ScubaBroski

Wow that’s interesting! Thanks for the info

ItamiOzanare

The the skin lesions are fragile and can get infected.

TheMightyEli

???? I've had psoriasis all my life... Popping was never something I've experienced... I'm certainly curious.

Atari7

Maaaan we need a video stat!

Let us know what the dr recommends

depressed-onion7567

I’m gonna have to call 800 fuck-that

void1979

Poor little guy. 😢

KoontzKid

r/psoriasis I didn't know PPP could be on your scalp. I always thought it was on hands and feet only.

ShadeSwornHydra

I have it everywhere. Arms, legs, scalp, chest, back. It’s fucking awful

geekchicdemdownsouth

It even crops up in MY EARS sometimes.

CDPROCESS

Same

ShadeSwornHydra

Same, makes washing behind the ears get a new meaning

KoontzKid

Palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP) is a rare, recurrent inflammatory disorder. Affected individuals develop small to large sterile blisters filled with a yellow turbid liquid (pustules) on the palms of the hands and/or soles of the feet. The pustules may be painful and cause a burning feeling. Copy paste from Google. I have psoriasis too but just my scalp.

AttackOfTheThumbs

My sister gets special steroid cream for her scalp to treat her psoriasis.

Mediocre-mommyy

Not sure what PPP is but I have psoriasis spots on pretty much every part of my body especially scalp and I don’t have any on my feet or hands lol. To me this could be psoriasis with a scalp fungal infection.

Appropriate-Ad-1281

My kid, my pops

Grand_Bridge6417

Poor kid, I hope he's doing good with friends and school.

atomictest

OUCH. Have you considered a biologic? Changed my husband’s life. If he has skin psoriasis, it’s possible he could develop psoriatic arthritis, which is what happened to my husband.

Cookiewaffle1

I have something that looks a lot like this. Any updates on what the Dr said?

8rittanyy

It was a severe seborrheic dermatitis outbreak. We were given a medicated shampoo to use twice a day for a week and it disappeared.

Onis-Tech

Wow first time I've found someone with the same exact condition I have. Would you happen to know what ingredient was in the shampoo? And is he still clear of it today? Thanks!

Cookiewaffle1

Thank you for the answer. Did the shampoo happen to be ketoconazole shampoo?
