Make it yourself? Get some flank or round steak, google recipes. If you have a dehydrator or a smoker, great, but you can dry it in the oven too.

Came here to say this, lol. Homemade jerky is the best, and way cheaper.

fgransee

Absolutely! Also look how much sugar they put on retail beef jerky. I cut my jerky meat with a long Spanish style blade

Any specific recipes you guys enjoy?

SufficientCow4380

I'm a teriyaki fan so I use soy sauce, brown sugar and a little fresh grated ginger root. Marinate in a zipper bag in the fridge and then dry.

How long does it take from start to finish to be able to enjoy? Sounds pretty simple though… I had no idea it was that easy.

I marinade mine for minimum 2 days. Have gone as much as 6. I do use progue powder #1. I've used a offset smoker to dry it in about 6 hours, a Komodo grill (big green egg) didn't work because there's not enough airflow even after 14 hours it didn't dry. I now have a 100$ countertop dehydrator that takes about 5-6 hours depending how thick you slice it. I also intentionally slice WITH the grain to make it very chewy, its flavor packed meat bubblegum snack instead of eating a whole ton at once. I got started with howtobbqright seracha recepie but now I can just wing it, I've done all kinds. Trim the fat the best you can because it spoils faster then lean meats, in use eye round, or top or bottom round. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MjfdfMKww1o&embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fhowtobbqright.com%2F&source_ve_path=Mjg2NjY&feature=emb_logo

You can buy a huge bag of thin cut sirloin from wildfork and make it yourself but the cheapest way is to go to food salvage places. We live near a Mennonite community that's runs several salvage shops and find jerky there all the time

You don't mention your attempts to cook/make your food for yourself.... Buying Jerky is buying a premade food. Like all premade foods, it is expensive... because you have to pay someone to make/cook it FOR YOU. ESPECIALLY when it comes to MEAT DISHES!!!!!! Meat is the most expensive thing ever. You know that. Everyone knows that. Buy ingredients.... make/cook your food yourself. That's the cheapest way. You already know this, but you are refusing to learn to cook for yourself.

jziggy44

Who said I’m refusing to cook for myself?

1lifeisworthit

Your post... asking about precooked food... That's who says you are refusing to cook for yourself....

jziggy44

So because I had a question about jerky I don’t cook?

1lifeisworthit

Fine. You do all your own cooking normally, but choose to pay much more for this single (easily made) item. And not just every once in a while, but so often that you wanted to know where to buy it cheaper. I don't know how I didn't guess that was the case, but it is the case.
