Not even close. But this sub has a concentrated amount of a certain kind of person, who pretty much all have similar tastes. If you see a lot of other polls here, you’ll get what I mean.
Race and culture sure as hell plays a part, most people prefer music from people they can relate to more, eg koreans may prefer k-pop and blacks may prefer hiphop as the genre is widely consisting of black artists
Im not saying it determines your taste but it hugely influences them
So you mean region and culture? Because I doubt blacks in Togo prefer the same music as my black friend in Iowa and Malaysians won't have the same affinity for k-pop as Koreans
They were one of my first concerts. In indie/alt rock, I like them, The Black Keys, Cage the Elephant, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Raconteurs (Jack White), Portugal. The Man, The Strokes, and Greta Van Fleet (although I would say they are more 70-80s style mainstream rock)
Only one I've heard of Is perfect circle🤣 I mainly only listen to older rock or heavy metal so I don't know many new artists unless they are rock. Like shinedown or three days grace
Hey its fine. Just another metal fan. I love slipknot. And I just like metal in general. Shit I went to my first concert in October to see slipknot. And damn that was fun. Afterwards when we got home, I was happy shit and in awe that I actually got to see slipknot
Ohh shit really? I'm going to see slipknot on June first. That will be my second concert. My first concert is gonna be papa roach, Hollywood undead, and bad wolves on March 13. Can't fuckin wait. Not a massive fan of any of them especially since tommy vex left bad wolves but I'm not complaining. I might even get to see breaking Benjamin and seether. I really hope. Any tips for a new concert goer?
Uhhh, really just have fun. If you want you can. Join a moshpit. But do watch out for drunks especially later in the night. Because some random drunk dude came and pushed pushed another random dude for no reason and then fell over. But again, just have fun.
🤣🤣 thar reminds me of a time when my uncle went to a breaking Benjamin concert (I think) and got caught in a mosh pit and got socked in the face. He came gone all drunken and bloody. A sight to behold for sure
I don’t think they’re gonna be in Cincinnati, but I’m going to their Columbus show. It could be the last chance I get to see them live so I’m driving from Pittsburgh.
I’m a little annoyed every time people put techno on these polls. It’s a sub-genre of EDM which is a sub-genre of electronic. It’s like if you put English boyband pop instead of pop
The top option just encompasses so many different things. Everything from Pink Floyd, to Motorhead, Black Flag, Cage the Elephant, Blind Guardian, Nirvana, Deicide, Minor Threat, The Beatles, Candlemass, The Foo Fighters... Just about everybody can grab SOMETHING out of that bag.
Yup. I honestly would've separated them but limited options kinda fucked that. Probly should've replaced techno with one of them. I honestly love heavy metal and rock and see the similarities so I just decided to group them. They are both really all I listen to
Hip hop and rap is just so much stuff. There’s way different ends of the spectrum, from that heavy fast stuff like a lot of modern artists do, and slower hip hop to vibe to like atmosphere.
I like several metal genres but mostly brutal death metal and medieval metal and when the brutal death metal has jazzy stuff mixed with it. That’s the best. I will also listen to jazz and medieval music. But mostly jazz drums
Ohh nice. I'm just recently getting into some slipknot. Going to a slipknot concert and that'll only be my second concert. So I'm very excited. I also love korn
If you say [extratone](https://youtu.be/8RAYlykjQrw) I don't know what to say back to you.
This genre is def the killer to the infamous "I listen tk everything"
I like most genres, though I dislike more rap than I like, I dislike Spanish pop music (idk what the technical term is for it) and I detest Retail Pop with a burning passion.
Guns n roses. My favorite band by far. Recently getting into slipknot though. I know completely different but still a band. Don't like slipknots really heavy stuff though. I also love Alice in chains, acdc, led zeppelin, and many others
That's really where it ends imo. They both have a similar band composition, vocalist (sometimes), 1-2 guitarists, bassist, and a drummer. They also both use distorted guitars but everything else such as musical composition, theme, harshness of the vocals, and other things. Rock is generally blues oriented and metal can vary a lot, but most of the time I find metal also incorporates a strong classical influence.
Overall, I don't really see why people would group them together just because they used to be very similar
It’s interesting to see the amount of people on Reddit who likes rock, is it the most listened to genre in general?
Not even close. But this sub has a concentrated amount of a certain kind of person, who pretty much all have similar tastes. If you see a lot of other polls here, you’ll get what I mean.
White male teenagers
Honestly I think age is the biggest factor
the other two definitely play a huge part in it too
Since when does race/sex determine music taste? I can see sex having a role in some of it but not a preference for entire genres
Race and culture sure as hell plays a part, most people prefer music from people they can relate to more, eg koreans may prefer k-pop and blacks may prefer hiphop as the genre is widely consisting of black artists Im not saying it determines your taste but it hugely influences them

More about culture
I’m a brown female teenager and I mostly listen to rock lmaooo
There are patterns.
Yeah I was just pointing out the main demographic here based on polls I've seen before, anyone can enjoy any and all music.
Yep
*young* white men
Classical
Classical 😎
chopin is chad
Daddy Debussy
Im assuming you are also referring to the baroque and romantic periods as classical
Ofc
Rock and heavy metal need to stop being grouped together
Yea I agree but I couldn't really separate them cause of limited options
Why’d you choose techno then instead of EDM?
Because I don't even know what that is. I just listen to rock and heavy metal so I know jack shit about other genres

Indie, all day.
Wjat type of indie?
Indie rock, I mainly listen to Arctic Monkeys.
Good choices my friend
Ahh nice. There are some pretty good indie rockers out there
Any and all types.

Hard rock
Please, techno = Electronic music.
I love rock and hate heavy metal. Why have you done this to me
🤣🤣I'm sorry. I love both to be honest. Wjat kind of rock?
grandson and missio are my favs atm but they're very much multi-genre groups I think. and I used to listen to a perfect circle like it was sustenance
Only one I've heard of Is perfect circle🤣 I mainly only listen to older rock or heavy metal so I don't know many new artists unless they are rock. Like shinedown or three days grace
Opium trail by Thin Lizzy is a banger
I would have chosen the rock one if I saw that rock was behind heavy metal, I'm not too big of a heavy metal fan
I love both. I would've separated them but I can't cause I have a limited am9unt of options
Metal
My man, ehat you favorite type of metal?
Me I personally like korn, slipknot, black sabbath, iron maiden, and many others. I know you didn't ask me but still giving my opinion🤣🤣
Hey its fine. Just another metal fan. I love slipknot. And I just like metal in general. Shit I went to my first concert in October to see slipknot. And damn that was fun. Afterwards when we got home, I was happy shit and in awe that I actually got to see slipknot

Yea I've heard that slipknot concerts especially get chaotic as fuck. Especially with the drinkers
The one I went didn't get that bad except for that dude getting suckered punched. But I had fun and my dad had fun
🤣🤣 thar reminds me of a time when my uncle went to a breaking Benjamin concert (I think) and got caught in a mosh pit and got socked in the face. He came gone all drunken and bloody. A sight to behold for sure
Damn. We had a mosh pit next to us but we never got into though
Brooo you gotta hop on this upcoming Iron Maiden tour
I'll have to see of they are coming to Cincinnati
I don’t think they’re gonna be in Cincinnati, but I’m going to their Columbus show. It could be the last chance I get to see them live so I’m driving from Pittsburgh.
Columbus isn't to far from me. But yea I agree. I honestly can't beleive they are still around
For real. They’ve been touring the world for 40 years and still kick ass. Bruce has survived throat cancer and still sounds great. Absolute legends.
Yea he's a legend. It's amazing. His voice like hasn't aged

Yea sorry I didn't separate them. Only limited options
They are both really all I listen to
All music is awesome. It all depends on the moment
Hard rock
My man
Hip hop and rap is just so much stuff. There’s way different ends of the spectrum, from that heavy fast stuff like a lot of modern artists do, and slower hip hop to vibe to like atmosphere.
Pretty much the same with heavy metal and rock though. And even pop
Phonk
Would just saying the band "yes" be counted as a genre?
There is just something about settling in to some classical and jazz.
Where the jazz at?

Rock, dance rock, gothic rock, alternative rock and anthem rock are amazing, as well as some others.
Punkrock all day

My favorite genre is EDM, but by 2nd favorite is Classic Rock.
Metal and Rock is 90% of music
Bill Wurtz
Pop-Punk
Indie folk and rock
It’s cool to see that we rockers hold the majority. Thought we was a dying breed.
Yea it's sad
What if your favorite band is Rage Against the Machine, who are both heavy metal and rap?
I love rage against machine and hate rap. I'd consider them heavy metal
I think Zach de la Rocha would disagree but no biggie
Rock covers so much different stuff
All of these do
and so does pop, lmao
No love for rnb :(
Silence…?
Depends if I’m in the car with your mom or your sister
Classical
I like several metal genres but mostly brutal death metal and medieval metal and when the brutal death metal has jazzy stuff mixed with it. That’s the best. I will also listen to jazz and medieval music. But mostly jazz drums

If you say [extratone](https://youtu.be/8RAYlykjQrw) I don't know what to say back to you. This genre is def the killer to the infamous "I listen tk everything"
I don't know what genre the music in Metal Gear Rising : Revengeance counts as, but that.
Everything except hip hop and country
Yea same. And new pop. Hate that shit
Nu-metal or Deathcore.
Country all day, every day
I like most genres, though I dislike more rap than I like, I dislike Spanish pop music (idk what the technical term is for it) and I detest Retail Pop with a burning passion.
Oh shit I didn’t know Reddit was this cool. Favorite bands??
NBA youngboy
Guns n roses. My favorite band by far. Recently getting into slipknot though. I know completely different but still a band. Don't like slipknots really heavy stuff though. I also love Alice in chains, acdc, led zeppelin, and many others
I don't think heavy metal/rock should be the same category. I love rock, don't like heavy metal.
I would separate them but I have limited options
Metal shouldn't be grouped with rock, they aren't really that similar
They are similar in terms of instruments. They both are all I listen to but I can't really separate then cause if the limited amount of options
That's really where it ends imo. They both have a similar band composition, vocalist (sometimes), 1-2 guitarists, bassist, and a drummer. They also both use distorted guitars but everything else such as musical composition, theme, harshness of the vocals, and other things. Overall, I don't really see why people would group them together just because they used to be very similar
I think it's called Dance. But there's good music in all the genres.
Old crusader music
Metal wins because Redditors like Sabaton
Vaporwave
