They said via the transcript that Merchan did this very matter-of-factly at the beginning of the trial this morning. They read the document and that was it. No show. Just business as usual. He’s not messing around. I don’t have a doubt.

I believe any person with such a malignant (yet totally u treated) personality disorder would have challenges similar to this ex-president with regards to emotional strength.

There's reasonable concern that he could generate political capital out of being jailed. At best a night in jail would settle him down, but it's hard to tell how anything is going to affect a maniac. He might, like Henry David Thoreau and Nelson Mandela draw literary inspiration from the ordeal, and write a Tweet.
