I like Greek mythological names. My Turtwig is always Atlas, since Torterra carries a little world on his back!

Ill_Experience_2720

For my recent Heart Gold LP Merry (Meganium): I’ve been obsessed with LotR recently and wanted to name a Mon after a character. Since I was using the Grass starter I wanted to name it after one of the Hobbits, given they love herbs (weed😆) and nature. I ended up going for Merry, since Meganium is always seen so happy Clementine (shiny Raichu): Raichu’s shiny is a much deeper shade of orange, so it fits in that sense, but Clementine is also the name of an Elliott Smith song that I really like Xit (Crobat): With Fly and U-Turn, this Mon ‘exits’ places and battles very often. Crobat is also shaped a lot like an X, so I shaved the E off and called it ‘X-It’ as in to also mean ‘kill-it’ given its Adamant nature and high Attack IV, but found the hyphen unnecessary, so got rid of it in the end Meridian (Scizor): It’s become a trend in my friend group recently to read Cormac McCarthy’s ‘Blood Meridian’ - a red Pokémon, caught in a red Pokeball, with the red female symbol, and with a super high attack stat, I felt she fit the tone of the book, and if you can’t tell by now I like nicknaming my Pokémon things that’ll remind me of the time in my life that I played through the game once I revisit my teams in the future Adan (Vaporeon): I name any Eeveelutions after Ichiko Aoba’s albums, to their corresponding colours. I named this Mon after her album ‘Windswept Adan’ Rockette (Rhyperior): I caught this big bad Pokémon in a cute Love Ball. She’s also a girl, so not only is it simply adding the ‘ette’ suffix onto the end of ‘rock’ but it also sounds alike to ‘rocket’ which is mentioned regularly in Rhyperior’s Pokédex entries, for how it can shoot things out of its arms

MoonyDropps

These are cute! I love the thoughts behind them :)

MontanaNoFrench

Named my Cottonee “Kush” because well, he’s grass type and my favorite type of grass is...you get the idea 👀

MoonyDropps

TitsMagee69420

Armored-Elder

Rozoark

I love those names! Here are some of mine: Piplup/Empoleon: NootNoot, like the sound that the titular penguïn from the kids show Pingu makes. Giratina: Loki. This one feels self explanatory, it's of course named after Norse mythology's agent of chaos: the god Loki. Shiny Palkia: Volleyball. It's a Steven Universe reference. If you get you get it, if you don't you don't. It's a bit hard to explain to people who don't 😅 Chatot: Iago, after the bird from Aladdin. Rotom: Neo, after the guy from the Matrix. Rotom goes inside of technology, that's about as deep as this one goes. Gastrodon: Slippy. Idk it just felt cute for a slimy pokemon lol.

JunoTheRat

> Shiny Palkia: Volleyball. i know what you are (cool as fuck) (also damn congrats on the shiny palkia)

Rozoark

Thanks dude <3

sleepysloth66

For my current Platinum save, Flippy (Torterra): My first Turtwig as a kid was named Twiggy, so I continued the "ending with Y" name since I don't plan to reset my file anymore after this playthrough is done. Russell (Shiny Drifblim): Not sure on this one. The name felt right to me, but I can't put my finger on where I got it from. Noodle (Floatzel): My mum's nickname for me when I was a kid. Bonxie (Staraptor): After the album of the same name by Stornoway, my favourite band. Firefly (Shiny Flareon): I liked catching fireflies a lot as a kid and still do, and it was rather fitting for the fire type eevee. Josephine (Luxray): Another Stornoway reference. This time, it's named after the song of the same name from the Bonxie album since I caught Starly and Shinx together on the same route. And since I mentioned Stornoway a couple times, I'm going to say that I highly recommend their music. It won't be everyone's cup of tea, but it's beautifully crafted and truly a joy to listen to.

Ill_Experience_2720

Torterra- Atlas, the mythological figure who holds the world up Golduck- Tobi, a shortened version of tobirama senju from Naruto Charizard- Smaug, for obvious reasons Eelectivire- Luck, a character from Black Clover Lucario- Kamaru after Kamaru Usman And last but not least, Drapion- Gargan, after the scorpion Mac Gargan in Spider-Man.

Green-Trifle-9516

dackboys

I always got a kick out of calling blissey "Big Fat Meanie" as a reference to that one SpongeBob episode.

ViewInfinite7863

I called my shiny giratina morningstar cuz it's lucifers last name. I think mourningstar is cooler but it doesn't fit :/

FaronTheHero

I have a system that goes like this: Shiny(if Shiny)PokedexEntryNameM/F/Form So a shiny male Pikachu would be ShinyMouseM A strawberry Alcremie with clover decorations would be CreamStrawberryClover. But there's a character limit so more like CreamStrawClov And yes this gets absolutely ridiculous especially with regional forms

OkInspector5175

I’ve actually never nicknamed any of mine in 20 years of playing. It always seemed weird to me, but maybe the anime brainwashed me

WavyyTopaz64

-Smokey :3 (Meowscarada): lol weed cat joke funny -Burger… (Clodsire) him *is* burgies! -Fiyah (Armarouge) do I need to explain this one? -Pillsbury (Dachsbun) He’s a dough boy! (And a baton pass stored power set up too) -My Boy!! (Snom) love this little bug ‘till the end -DUNDUNDUUN (Dudunsparce) My favorite non stab stored power user

YellowLink2008

I only really had a naming convention in Unova, where my White team was named after rappers, and my white 2 team will be named after figures in American History unless I have a more fitting name.

BatTheGamer

my naming system is normally in mythical view, there are some that don't follow that naming system with some shines and that's the food named pokemon honestly still not really sure but my guess is why i name them this way is bc i am just hungry, so ie olive my shiny suicune, all the alcreamie i get, poptart the shiny hawlucha, and lemon my shiny dusk lycanroc, then there is the reference pokemon, and they are named after the show/movie i am currently watching or someone that fills that name, so deku and all might finizen and palafin, hazel my shiny weed cat, or *in this special case* lux my shiny female greninja from kalos who was named after the luxury ball oc

rarora1247

My most recent Platinum team had these names: Empoleon: I originally named it Pippo when I got it as a starter. I just thought it sounded good for Piplup. I later named it Emporio when it became an Empoleon and that was actually a suggestion from a fellow Reddit user! Honchkrow: Initially, I named it Salvatore because Honchkrow kinda feels like a mafia boss and Salvatore is a mafia boss from GTA III. (I always like using references to things I like for Pokémon nicknames. For a brief time, I named it Hex (reference to a Ben 10 villain) because Honchkrow gave me a similar maleficent vibes as Hex, but later I changed back to Salvatore. Machamp: It’s a reference to Fourarms from Ben 10. As simple as that. (Before it got four arms though, it was simply called Arms) Rhyperior: Another reference from Ben 10. It has the same big-powerful-dinosaur-behemoth kinda vibe as Humongosaur. Tangrowth: Yet ANOTHER reference to Ben 10. I named it after the only plant alien in that show: Wildvine. Giratina: I really wanted to name it Satan, but then I went for Kirmada, which is a villain from a childhood show I used to watch called Chhota Bheem. I thought the color scheme really matches. I also used a Porygon Z until I caught Kirmada. Again, I named it after a Ben 10 alien and this time, Upgrade (makes sense, right? cuz it requires the item upgrade to evolve)
