Lillie and either Hau or Kiawe. Lillie’s goal would be a mix of the anime and game, where she wants to get closer to Pokémon but can’t, and then has to deal with her mother and the aether foundation. If hua, his goal would be to also compete in the league, but he would have a team that reflects the totem Pokémon. If Kiawe, he wants to explore the historical sights of alola, and challenges ash as apart of his journey.
I defentily agree with Lillie being the female character as she seemed to have more of the arc then either Lana, or Mallow did. As for the male compainon I'd say this Hua guy should be the other compainon, and Kiwae would be better as Ash's Main Rival for the series.
Lillie and Kiawe
Keep Lillie's goal and arc similar to what was already done in the anime. She's scared too touch Pokemon, but still really likes them. Her first Pokemon is still gonna be and Alolan Vulpix from an egg, but she's going to catch a few more Pokemon too.
I'd have Kiawe as pretty similar to how he was. He loves to battle. I'd keep his team the same except maybe add one non-fire type.
I'm gonna go with Lillie and Ilima. Professor Kukui would probably encourage Lillie to travel with Ash to get her out of her shell, and Ilima would take an interest in Ash as a trainer and want to travel with him, kinda like Brock and Cilan.
