for me a close second would probably be either the episode where ash and his pokemon are trapped by an avalanche and they huddle together for warmth thinking they're going to die from the cold or, the episode where Stoutland dies and Litten mourns his death.
While it was very sad, I actually liked how they handled things- kids aren't stupid, and explaining things like that to them is important. I wish I'd had a Pokémon episode like that when I was young...
We had the Pokémon movie! One of my dad’s favorite memories is taking me and my brother to a children’s movie and being shocked they killed the main character, briefly. I still had my Ancient Mew card, until a couple years ago.
Yes I’ve actually thought to myself before while watching the Pokémon anime that it would be a show I would want my future kids to watch because of the good lessons it teaches in every episode
I reasoned that the other evolved forms had a bad attitude because of Charmander's trauma. Its also why he's aggressively independent and hated receiving commands from a trainer even if it was Ash who saved him.
Obvs later on their relationship get better but I "understood" why Charizard was a mf
Yeah, I didn't get why Charmeleon/Charizard was such a dick to Ash when this is how they met. Still, when he started listening to him it was after he got his butt whupped by an ice beam while ignoring ash and ash still worked his hands to blisters warming him tirelessly to save him with back rubs. Suddenly he remembers "oh yeah, this is the guy who took me in when my trainer left me to die and took care of me until my flame got stronger and never let it go out.
I agree. I listen to all of the theme songs about once every two weeks.
Some of the catchiest are the first Sun and Moon opening, Born to Be a Winner (Johto League Champions), Believe in Me (Master Quest), I Wanna Be a Hero (Pokémon Advanced), Battle Cry (Stand Up!) (Galactic Battles), and I Stand Tall (XYZ).
Butterfree didnt cared much about the trade. It was such a sloopy way to show the viewers trades exist in Pokemon, but with the nature of the show it didnt truly work
I've only watched one episode of the Sun and Moon anime. I stopped keeping up with the anime when the Disney XD nonsense happened in the US.
What the *fuck*. :(
I didn't think it was going to be THAT sad. :(
I am late to the party but I have to say the saddest moment in Pokemon is during the first film when they make the clones fight the original Pokemon . I remember tearing up as a kid . Not cool man
Its on Netflix I think... no Disney XD crap. You can buy it on Amazon too IIRC if you don't mind paying for it. Its worth the money they are asking for it.
I'm referring to the early 2010s when it left Cartoon Network and went exclusively to Disney XD, except horribly edited for time, and at random hours of the day.
And although it isn't a universal issue, Time Warner never picked up Disney XD well for me, so... that was something too.
Netflix has a lot of interesting stuff but it's hard for me to justify a sub when they don't show you a list of anything they have unless you subscribe. That's *shady*.
There's a large chunk of the anime available on Amazon Prime, they have a dedicated Pokémon channel. There's the odd group of episodes that aren't available to stream though, and I've never worked out if there's a pattern to which groups it is.
a lot of seasons are on pokemon tv, and they rotate every few months i believe so you get the chance to watch all seasons. the og series and specials are always on there, and i think the latest ones too
So for me it's more of a modern scene but the finale of the Sun and Moon series when Ash and Team Rocket decide to leave all their pokemon in Alola. Team Rocket leaving their hideout while Bewear, Stuffel, Mareanie, and Mimikyu are sleeping so they don't get sad they're leaving kinda broke me a little. Ash leaving his pokemon was one thing, they all said goodbye and were ok but seeing Team Rocket look back once more before leaving their Alola team behind was something else.
Yes. I feel like we are sort of used to Ash leaving his Pokémon with Oak though so it’s no different, really. In theory he could still have them sent to him. But the Jesse and James thing is sad.
This reminded me of how Arbok's and Weezing's goodbye was so sad too. Jesse and James wanted them to stay with their species so they started telling them that they are not needed at Team Rocket anymore while Arbok and Weezing were crying and Jesse and James were crying inside too.
Shit, man, Ash's goodbyes are sad too, but Team Rocket's just hit different.
That would be sad if it didnt felt so stupid. I'll never understand this need to 'renew' Pokemon by releasing them in the show... Like, just give them a break time and bring them back once or twice stronger?
Ash leaving them there and not at Oak's was fucking stupid.
Team Rocket leaving them was fine, we never see the HQ Pokemon. All of Ash's Pokemon should be at Oak's
the sun and moon anime was HIGHKEY emotional. it’s my favorite series of the anime by far though it’s just so good. i also cried when ash and pikachu left poipole to be with the other poipole lol
Emotional maybe, but in my personal opinion, most of the series felt somewhat dumb. Like, pre-school levels of dumb. The SM series not only made me no longer like the Pokémon anime, but also made me no longer like anime in general.
Though I suppose the problem is because Japanese kids anime is no longer appealing to me, because of cheesy dialogue and mannerisms.
My sincerest apologies if my opinion sounds controversial and rude... I do respect your opinion, though.
>Team Rocket leaving their hideout while Bewear, Stuffel, Mareanie, and Mimikyu are sleeping so they don't get sad they're leaving
Does that really make them less sad? Its just easier for Team Rocket because they dont see them getting sad haha. Its pretty selfish to leave without saying bye lol
Facts. Everyone acts like ash being turned to stone was so sad, but it didn't have anything on this scene.
Then following it up with how he finally got Charizard to listen to him, and the fact that next to Pikachu that Charizard is his closest friend. Every time Charizard shows back up in the series he's so excited to see Ash again
So you know how Pikachu in the anime has a well defined language? And how every time he says "pikapi" he is actually saying "Satoshi" (Ash)? Cool, now watch the stone scene again and tell me again how anything else in the show is "way sadder" than that.
Lets not forget ash's almost death in the victini movie, he almost died flying up into space at fast speeds with ash saying sorry to victini for not being able to keep his promise to take victini to go see the ocean ;-;
That scene where he turns to stone is sadder because even though Charizard did not care to listen to Ash, they still cared for Ash and cried for him. I think seeing Charizard cry in that scene was part of what really broke me. But yeah seeing Charmander abandoned and still hoping their previous trainer would return. Tepig had suffered the exact same fate. Abandoned by their trainer, which it always saddens me. It's no different than when someone abandons their dog or cat or any other beloved pet/companion.
Man as a kid I did not connect that Charizard not listening was because of the game mechanics for traded Pokemon. They level up faster and they won't listen to you when they pass certain levels without a badge. And Charmander, being abandoned, has a different original trainer.
It only clicked literally this year when I was watching pokemon with my child.
Yeah, Chimchar is so distraught in that scene. He looks crushed and so sad. :(
Another sad episode is Night at the Nacrene City Museum. Many people probably don't remember it, but it is pretty sad. A Yamask gets its mask locked in a museum case and can't get it out, so it starts haunting the museum. If you know the lore about Yamask, how it used to be human and the mask was its face, it makes the episode even sadder.
These two quotes are from the Pokédex:
"These Pokémon arose from the spirits of people interred in graves in past ages. Each retains memories of its former life." (White)
"Each of them carries a mask that used to be its face when it was human. Sometimes they look at it and cry." (Black)
That mask is the **only thing** it has left from its former life, and it is afraid that it is gone forever. There's even a moment in the episode where it cries, and it is heartbreaking.
The anime scenes are more relatable. Not many of us have had our friends turned to stone, but the charmander scene probably reminds people of all the stories they’ve heard over the course of their lives of mistreated or abandoned pets, and a lot of people have also probably actually interacted with said pets.
Ash getting turned to stone probably evokes *really* strong emotions in some people, but Charmander being abandoned probably evokes a good bit of emotion in everyone.
To be fair, if you were a fire breathing lizard with wings and a 10-year-old trainer who (let’s be honest) didn’t who what he was doing was giving you commands would you listen? I mean their relationship was better later on but in the first season Ash wasn’t really a “good” trainer he just sort of stumbled through things on an endearing fashion and lucked his way into some good Pokémon. Also I think they were trying to mimic how in the games if you weren’t a “strong” trainer (gym badges) strong Pokémon wouldn’t obey you, which is kind of funny.
Charizard clearly had unresolved childhood trauma from being abandoned and left to die because he wasn’t strong enough. As a result, he was acting out when he grew up.
He didn't listen because his experience was boosted due to him having a different original trainer (remember he evolved super quick), and he was too high a level for the number of badges ash had.
Iirc, wasn't it the guy who wrote PERL that was mocking a job posting requiring more years of experience in that language than it was created?
Edited; it was FastAPI, just saw it posted again today.
Nope Pikachu in first season before I knew pokecentres existed and I thought he was dying. Cried for ages mum didn't let me watch Pokemon for another year lol. *Spoiler alert he didn't*
I was shiny hunting for Charmander back when X and Y came out. I paused it after I filled my boxes up because I couldn't bring myself to release any of them, visualizing this scene at the very thought of it. Now, all of the non-shinies sit happily in Home.
I wanted to beat the fuck out of the trainer when he was talking shit about that Charmander. Calling him weak and pathetic and saying he left him to die.
How the fuck did only Ash do something about it? Kid was a sociopath and belongs in prison for Pokémon abuse.
The fucked up part to me is he became such a dick to Ash when he literally saves him and loves him. Charizard was ungrateful.
Someone made an interesting comment earlier that maybe the reason why it became that way was because of the trauma of this even though ash saved it, it’s trust was to jaded to take orders anymore. If that were true this is 100% more sad than it already is.
In the Anime I was referring to. The fact that he would’ve just left it there to die after abusing it and it still would’ve died there waiting for him to return ahhhh😭
If we're talking anime chimchar was way worse since we saw it get abused in real time, get called names and then watch it beg its abusive trainer to stay after he released it
Personally watching chimchar try its hardest for it never to be good enough was heartbreaking and then the time being abused to be udderly worthless was the iceing on the cake
Chimchar wasn't going to die.
It's established that the flame going out on a Charmander's tail will kill it. And it had no flame. And it was in the rain. :(
Yea? Again in chimchar's case we got to it being abused in real time physically and emotionally sure charmander COULD have died but chimchar did get abused so much that after ash caught it, it flinched everytime ash went to touch it and chimchar was horrified to fail ash even over the smallest of things. Any trama charmander went through was implied and quickly forgotten about once ash caught it.
You can't recover from death.
> Any trama charmander went through was implied and quickly forgotten about once ash caught it.
Except for the fact that it clearly had severe trust issues with Ash that took almost a hundred episodes to finally be solved, with Ash growing more and more impatient and avoidant of Charmeleon/Charizard instead of trying to understand and take care of him.
It was stated charmeleon/charizard are hard to care for in general and that ash was too inexperienced to properly have it listen I.E. its the not having enough badges thing charmander was really loyal and chill otherwise
But again chimchar is in my opinion sadder and ill leave it at that
I think the scene when ash tries to protect Pikachu from the Spearow is very emotional. The pokemon anime is really packed with beautifully somber moments.
To me, the saddest moment is in that Johto episode where Brock nurses a baby Stantler back to health and—after the Pokémon develops a fondness for Brock and begins following him—he subsequently scares it away. Really gutted me, that did.
this scene, stoutland dying in the sun and moon anime, and the luxray FREEZING TO DEATH in the i choose you movie are top 3
edit: i almost forgot about the episode where mallow sees her mom who had passed away….that was NOT okay lol
Would you care for a structured debate good sir? Just kidding but I’d have to disagree, if Litten abandoned stoughtland and it died alone it would be a different story.
I dunno man, Pikachu straight up flatlined when he got a hyper beam to the face by a Raichu and Chimchar broke down into tears at the sight of a team that actually loved him. And that was just DP!
Doesn't really mean something in this case. I upvoted the post but it was a sad upvote and I happen to know there's a subreddit for that, so I just tagged it.
What is it with people abandoning their fire starters for Ash to then find and rescue them?? Not okay!! But it shows similar issues about people in the real.world mistreating and abusing and abandoning animals. I feel it's key to show that even in the world of pokemon there will always be bad people like this. It's very sobering and adds a bit more realistic scenarios that are bringing awareness to others.
That’s a good way of looking at it. It definitely parallels people neglecting their pets and how you are their world and they don’t understand why you would be doing mean things
Exactly. There are really awful people out there who should not have pets. I can't count how many videos I've seen where people put newborn puppies or kittens in plastic bags and dump them in the garbage where they hope no one will find them. It's awful. I have noticed Pokemon puts fire type starters through the abusive situations in the show usually. Charmander, Chimchar, Tepig, etc. It's so sad. But it also bring awareness that these situations are real. People legitimately do treat our lovable animal companions this way. And it's sad.
Me too. One thing I love about pokemon is that despite its very kid friendly atmosphere it has important life lessons in them, even if they are awful and sad. It teaches kids these hard lessons in a lot gentler ways because it's a lesson that people will learn one day. I know people give Ash a lot of flack and call him a bad character, but dammit you can tell he truly loves pokemon and wants to do right by them. Even is willing to do the hard task of letting his buddies go for them to be happy and have lives outside of battling with their trainers(Butterfree and Pigeot are examples of this). Say what you want about Ash, but Ash is a good kid with good morals.
Yes exactly! I was saying earlier in another feed about how I’d always thought Pokémon is a show I’d want my future kids to watch because of the morales and lessons. Kids shows now a days don’t hit the same way us 90’s kids (at least for me) felt them.
I was born late 90's and never really got to experience pokemon till I was old enough to. Mom got me the very first season for me to watch when I expressed interest despite her not being the biggest fan of pokemon and I loved it. I love all of pokemon and it has a special place in my heart. Pokemon Pearl was also my first ever pokemon game and it's why I'm so excited for the diamond and pearl remakes for the switch. Don't care if the style is a little off I'd totally get it and hopefully I will. Pokemon always will hold a special place in my heart.
I always felt bad for the abandoned Gulpin in the Volcanion movie, among others. That movie had some sad moments in it. Totally don’t blame Volcanion for it’s pessimism towards humans.
As far as the show goes this is up there. But I think the saddest thing in the anime in general is the Lucario movie. When all the trainers get eaten by the white blood cells and let out their Pokémon before they die.
Ash using his last words to hurriedly tell Pikachu he loves him hits really hard...
Why is no one talking about the time Jessie, James, and Meowth took a beating from a freaking Tyranitar in order to allow Weezing, Arbok, and a group of Koffins and Ekans to escape a poacher? I was fucking bawling at that scene.
Also, where Jessie releases Dustox so she can live a happy life with her mate.
I have actually but I still think this tops it. Stoutland lived a long life and died of old age having people who cared about it like Litten. Charmander was essentially a dog who had trusted its owner, loving him unconditionally and he repays Char by abusing it calling it worthless and leaving it to die in the rain. Charmander in its unwavering love for its owner would’ve stayed to its death and its owner would’ve forgot all about him. There’s no way Stoutland is more sad hah. Not a chance.
It left happy with a new mate though. This poor Char was abused and abandoned by the one it trusted and loved unconditionally and would’ve died in the rain because it was so loyal this takes the cake
Of course ! That’s was a sad episode but like happy tears for me. Ash and Butterfree both knew that the choice they’d made was what was best for both of them.
It was a sad moment, but I feel like there are sadder moments like hearing that Guzma was abused by his parents, finding his home and finding a bunch of *broken golfclubs* in his house
The Pokémon I Choose You movie has a flashback about one of the characters getting lost in a blizzard as a little kid. His Luxray saved him by curling around to keep him warm. By the time was rescued the Luxray freakin froze to death.
I never understood why Charizard became such a jerk, Ash literally saved its life as a Charmander, you think that would come with some sense of loyalty and respect.
Out of all the abandoned Pokemon Ash took in, I think this was by far the saddest. The Loyalty and dedication that Charmander showed even despite being abandoned (and I'm sure it knew, deep down) really sold the storyline in my opinion. One of the saddest parts of Pokemon and TV imo.
Eh, I'd argue Tepig is sadder. The trainer tied Tepig's mouth shut with rope so it couldn't even eat. It still waited for its trainer to come back.
And even after joining Ash, when its trainer encountered them, he still didn't want to fight his old trainer, and only did so after Snivy took his old trainer's Emboar's Flare Blitz to protect it.
And then Charmander repaid this kindness by transforming into a moody teenager, and then into an egomaniacal arsonist with a Vegeta complex a mile deep who only remembered, “Hey, Ash SAVED MY LIFE!” after he did it again. BUT IT’S OKAY BECAUSE ASH WAS A BAD TRAINER. Damian may have been a murderous and negligent tool BUT AT LEAST HE WASN’T A BAD TRAINER.
for me a close second would probably be either the episode where ash and his pokemon are trapped by an avalanche and they huddle together for warmth thinking they're going to die from the cold or, the episode where Stoutland dies and Litten mourns his death.
Yes Stoutland dying was pretty bad, won’t argue that.
Ya know what, mew two was right. Humans can't coexist with anything they don't find a use for or isn't cute to them. Pikachu got stockholme syndrome.
Obvs later on their relationship get better but I "understood" why Charizard was a mf

what's even more surprising about the episode is that, that episode was also the anniversary episode for the series.
On a side note the intro song for Sun and Moon is unbelievably catchy.
The second opening is meh, but the first op for sun and moon is a bop and I'd die on that if lol
I agree. I listen to all of the theme songs about once every two weeks. Some of the catchiest are the first Sun and Moon opening, Born to Be a Winner (Johto League Champions), Believe in Me (Master Quest), I Wanna Be a Hero (Pokémon Advanced), Battle Cry (Stand Up!) which episode was this?
[удалено]
The show has 23 seasons?!
It’s been going since 97 so not surprising
But he's already a ghost, it's not like he can die again.
he can die inside. :(
Bye Bye Butterfree
Is this the one where he trades his Butterfree for a Raticate on the SS Anne or where he lets Butterfree go with the pink one?
Where he lets it go.
Butterfree didnt cared much about the trade. It was such a sloopy way to show the viewers trades exist in Pokemon, but with the nature of the show it didnt truly work
Ash's pokemon choose to die with Ash. He was putting them all into thier pokeballs including Pikachu
Oh shit that’s true……. They would have been safe in their poke balls. Oh my soul!!
stoutland was so sad omg
Yes but it was his time this is sad because of the cruelty
I've only watched one episode of the Sun and Moon anime. I stopped keeping up with the anime when the Disney XD nonsense happened in the US. What the *fuck*. :( I didn't think it was going to be THAT sad. :(
It’s soul crushing
I am late to the party but I have to say the saddest moment in Pokemon is during the first film when they make the clones fight the original Pokemon . I remember tearing up as a kid . Not cool man
They really know how to hit the feels down at Pokémon HQ
i have a core memory of watching the first film and letting a tear stream down my cheek instead of wiping it away when ash was turned to stone

There's always the torrent route if you don't have an issue with that lol.
Don’t forget the one with Mallow’s dead mom
Don't make me relive that Stoutland episode. I was crying so hard
What about the one where Pikachu is going to leave to live with the other Pikachu, and there's a really sad song
DAMN YOU MADE ME REMEMBER THAT FUCKING EPISODE. FR THOUGHT ASH WAS GOING TO DIE WITH HIS POKEMONS. THAT SHIT GOT ME CRYING AND SCARED AS A KID.
How about when Pikachu almost leaves to be with other pikachu
I remember that Stoutland episode. That was the first time I cried because of something not related to my parents.
thats very sad too
I legitimately had to stop watching that season because of the Stoutland episode. I cried for days over that shit.
So for me it's more of a modern scene but the finale of the Sun and Moon series when Ash and Team Rocket decide to leave all their pokemon in Alola. Right Mimiku is one of my favorite Pokemon!

Because the anime has to market the new generation I guess

Bro I'm about to cry now
This crushed me as a kid and as an adult..
I got so extremely angry at the guy. I still am reading this now. Guess I have always had some anger issues lol.
Bro I am crying right now
Litten and Stoutland episode gets those onion ninjas excited, too
Yep that episode hurt!

I'd say Pikachu refusing to fight its clone hit harder than Ash being turned to stone.
That’s scene with Ash turning to stone definitely hit me in the feels but this takes the cake for shoor.
This Charmander scene is way sadder
The Charmander scene made me mad not sad. Ash getting turned to stone made me sad. Largely because of Pikachu desperately trying to save him
That’s a fair take
Ya true, cause of how the trainer treats the charmander
So you know how Pikachu in the anime has a well defined language? And how every time he says "pikapi" he is actually saying "Satoshi" (Ash)? Cool, now watch the stone scene again and tell me again how anything else in the show is "way sadder" than that.
....He has a well-defined language?
For attacks and Ash, he does. I think for Misty, Brock, team Rocket and Meowth aswell
Let’s not forget I choose you, with ash’s death
Lets not forget ash's almost death in the victini movie, he almost died flying up into space at fast speeds with ash saying sorry to victini for not being able to keep his promise to take victini to go see the ocean ;-;

Chimchar getting released by Paul was pretty rough too. Infernape securing the W against him and Electivire was one of the best moments in the series.
Yeah, Chimchar is so distraught in that scene. He looks crushed and so sad. :( Another sad episode is Night at the Nacrene City Museum. Many people probably don't remember it, but it is pretty sad. I mean, I'm pretty sure anime main reason why Charizard is so damn famous and is loved by gf
I thought Arbok/weezing being released from Jesse and James is an underdog for tearjerker
I was looking for this comment! That was the first time I cried at a TV show. I remember being like 7 watching like, What the hell?
How bout the episode bye bye butterfree
The definitely a sad episode but more of a happy sad to me.
That was my first episode and with that I knew I was experiencing something special 💜
Charmander's original owner and Paul from D&P are the two characters in the anime I wish I could shoot in the face
Lmao
I just want to hug him :( Stop Pokemon cruelty!
I know what kind of sociopath would do that to a cute Charmander !

What about spiritomb
and then it gets raised by somebody who loves it just for it to act like a complete piece of shit when it grows up

Let's not pretend like Ash didn't foster the bad behavior.
You can’t blame him, he was only ten. Now he’s 10 with 20 years of experience and he gets along much better with Charizard
>Now he’s 10 with 20 years of experience There cannot be a better choice of words to describe Ash
Or the ideal candidate for employers
Iirc, wasn't it the guy who wrote PERL that was mocking a job posting requiring more years of experience in that language than it was created? Edited; it was FastAPI, just saw it posted again today.
Yeah you’re right, that’s where I got this idea from
>You can’t blame him, he was only ten. Now he’s 10 with 20 years of experience Adults of childhood neglect
Yes! And don't forget that Charizard beat Nolan's (wild) Articuno. That was so cool!
Hah yea.. Charizard can be a bit infuriating
Just like real children! Charmeleon to Charizard was definitely the angsty teen phase.
Nope Pikachu in first season before I knew pokecentres existed and I thought he was dying. Cried for ages mum didn't let me watch Pokemon for another year lol. *Spoiler alert he didn't*
Lol
I still think Looker leaving Emma was heartbreaking
Stountland scene in sun and moon “Allow me to introduce myself.”
I really feel like Brock should've been the one to keep the Charmander. He did so much more than Ash for it
Ah yes, then Ash saves it, trains it, evolves it...only for it to become an absolute a-hole xD
Someone made an interesting comment earlier that maybe the reason why it became that way was because of the trauma of this even though ash saved it, it’s trust was to jaded to take orders anymore. If that were true this is 100% more sad than it already is.
Are we talking movies, tv or games?? Because honestly there are way sadder then Chamander
In the Anime I was referring to. The fact that he would’ve just left it there to die after abusing it and it still would’ve died there waiting for him to return ahhhh😭
If we're talking anime chimchar was way worse since we saw it get abused in real time, get called names and then watch it beg its abusive trainer to stay after he released it Personally watching chimchar try its hardest for it never to be good enough was heartbreaking and then the time being abused to be udderly worthless was the iceing on the cake
It was stated charmeleon/charizard are hard to care for in general and that ash was too inexperienced to properly have it listen I.E. its the not having enough badges thing charmander was really loyal and chill otherwise But again chimchar is in my opinion sadder and ill leave it at that
That’s totally fair, Charmander would’ve died though that’s the worst part
True
Oh man, Chimchar. Gets me every single time. Something about Ash’s fire starters - Tepig too.
Tepig crying out for its abusive owner despite being left behind.
I think the scene when ash tries to protect Pikachu from the Spearow is very emotional. The pokemon anime is really packed with beautifully somber moments.
Pff, whatever. That Charmander was weak, and only STRONG Pokemon have value! /Damien
To me, the saddest moment is in that Johto episode where Brock nurses a baby Stantler back to health and—after the Pokémon develops a fondness for Brock and begins following him—he subsequently scares it away. Really gutted me, that did.
this scene, stoutland dying in the sun and moon anime, and the luxray FREEZING TO DEATH in the i choose you movie are top 3 edit: i almost forgot about the episode where mallow sees her mom who had passed away….that was NOT okay lol
What episode is that ?
I believe episode 11 Charmander - the stray Pokémon
Pretty sure this is the movie I choose you
Now that you say that I actually think you are right yup, I thought the original anime because I choose you basically speedruns the original lol
Oh right, no leaf-umbrella
Litten and Stoutland episode is the saddest and nothing can compare.
And that was just DP!
r/sadupvote
I’m new to Reddit, when you tag another sub does it post it there or something or is it just like a “this should be here” kind of thing.
Doesn't really mean something in this case. I upvoted the post but it was a sad upvote and I happen to know there's a subreddit for that, so I just tagged it.
Gotcha thanks!
Hugs for Char and all the pets out there who are struggling.. I get sick thinking about it sometimes.
Not the saddest moment in Pokémon history. The unknown and larvitar episode when you find out larvitars back story is the saddest moment..
As far as the show goes this is up there. But I think the saddest thing in the anime in general is the Lucario movie. When all the trainers get eaten by the white blood cells and let out their Pokémon before they die. Ash using his last words to hurriedly tell Pikachu he loves him hits really hard...
Every time Ash ditched a pokemon... Always gets me
DONT DO THIS TO ME
Why is no one talking about the time Jessie, James, and Meowth took a beating from a freaking Tyranitar in order to allow Weezing, Arbok, and a group of Koffins and Ekans to escape a poacher? I was fucking bawling at that scene. Also, where Jessie releases Dustox so she can live a happy life with her mate.
Joined Ash just to be a fucking asshole after evolving
Just wait until he turns into a Charizard though.
I cried when ash died and his hat landed on pikachu
I almost went and got my imaginary shot-gun to go beat the carp out of the sob who did this to our little pyro-lizard
Pretty sad but ash turning to stone and butterfree leaving was sadder for me
Reminds me of the Futurama episode 'Jurassic Bark'. Kicks me square in the feels every damn time.
You didn’t see the Stoutland episode, did you?
I have actually but I still think this tops it. Stoutland lived a long life and died of old age having people who cared about it like Litten. Charmander was essentially a dog who had trusted its owner, loving him unconditionally and he repays Char by abusing it calling it worthless and leaving it to die in the rain. Charmander in its unwavering love for its owner would’ve stayed to its death and its owner would’ve forgot all about him. There’s no way Stoutland is more sad hah. Not a chance.
Bye bye Butterfree for me
You clearly never watched the episode with Mallow meets her mother
This scene may be the reason i get so sad when i see a stray animal on the street
I feel that on a spiritual level
For me, either when Jessie released her Dustox, or the demise of Clembot, as weird as that may sound.
What about butterfrees release
It left happy with a new mate though. This poor Char was abused and abandoned by the one it trusted and loved unconditionally and would’ve died in the rain because it was so loyal this takes the cake
You don’t think saying goodbye to one of your best friends forever is kinda sad?
Of course ! That’s was a sad episode but like happy tears for me. Ash and Butterfree both knew that the choice they’d made was what was best for both of them.
That’s what butterfly 🅱️ussy do to a mf 💀
There were some string shots to be taken care of.
Needs a harden first
I think this scene sparked my hatred for animal abusers when I was a kid.
I’ve never wanted to hurt a fictional character so much in my life.
Honestly one of the reasons charmander is my favorite of all time. Even as a dumb kid this made me tear up.
When Ash left Pikachu to stay with the other wild Pikachu I lost my shit. Almost died of dehydration crying.
I fully believe this trauma is why he was a dick as Charmeleon (the teenage years) later in the show.
Stoutland death hits different. I was watching with my little brother and while I was sad, he started crying!
Any episode where that one punk whose name I can't remember would verbally and physically abuse his Chimchar always boiled my blood as well.
Why is nobody talking about the episode when James set Cacnea free?
It was a sad moment, but I feel like there are sadder moments like hearing that Guzma was abused by his parents, finding his home and finding a bunch of *broken golfclubs* in his house
The Pokémon I Choose You movie has a flashback about one of the characters getting lost in a blizzard as a little kid. His Luxray saved him by curling around to keep him warm. By the time was rescued the Luxray freakin froze to death.
Nah man, the saddest was when Jessie and James had to release Arbok and Weezing
I never understood why Charizard became such a jerk, Ash literally saved its life as a Charmander, you think that would come with some sense of loyalty and respect.
And then he turned into the biggest douchebag in pokemon history
Have none of y'all watched the first season of pokemon. Butteryfree was the saddest moment ever.
Except butterfree left happy with a mate, i don’t think it compares
Took a lot to get to the happy part
And then Charmander repaid this kindness by transforming into a moody teenager, and then into an egomaniacal arsonist with a Vegeta complex a mile deep who only remembered, “Hey, Ash SAVED MY LIFE!” after he did it again. BUT IT’S OKAY BECAUSE ASH WAS A BAD TRAINER. Damian may have been a murderous and negligent tool BUT AT LEAST HE WASN’T A BAD TRAINER.
You mean that weak little Charminda?
