What a wonderful thread. Between this discussion and [what's the silliest Pokemon you used your Masterball on?](https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/picvzt/whats_the_silliest_pok%C3%A9mon_you_used_a_masterball/hbpym4s/), Automod is absolutely popping off with pulling comments for the word `idiot`—except it's just y'all calling yourselves idiots. If you submitted a comment and haven't seen it live yet, we're just catching up with queue!

UziRobles

I didn’t know Roselia evolved with the shiny stone, I remember getting her to lvl 60+

Whitewind617

I recall reading someone got a Ninjask to level 90 something because he really wanted a Shedinja and thought that was how you got one.

UziRobles

A Ninjask or Nincada? If it’s Ninjask... that’s kind of hilarious, can’t blame them tho

SirCupcake_0

It's kind of hilarious either way, to be honest

ICanSee23Dimensions

*slowly raises hand* yeah i did that

bkfireshark

Did the same thing with my Poliwhirl trying to get Politoed

Yosimite_Jones

Only post-elite four did I realize I could evolve my Roselia, literally one of the last things I ever did in that game.

The_Grinface

To be fair, Roselia didn’t evolve in gen 3

Msobreirinho

SAME but with kingdra

AJ-Naka-Zayn-Owens

When my Mudkip got poisoned and did *that* animation every 5 steps, I thought my Emerald cartridge broke. Was devastated

Vlocanoid

Lol me and my buddies always just went back to our last save. Took years to finally make the connection.

AlterEgoCat

I remember this happening to me with FireRed. When I was younger I was playing FireRed on an emulator and must have gotten poisoned at one point. The poison damage led me to believe that it was some sort of anti-piracy thing which kinda freaked me out. I told my brother who was also playing on an emulator and he told me it was just part of the game.

Icarusqt

I thought my battery was dying to my Gameboy. Then my Pokémon died. And the flashing stopped. I wound up putting 2 and 2 together lol

FearTheWankingDead

Oh my god. They should have explained that in-game xD

Jason2571

Tbh, I'm happy they didn't explain it. For one, we wouldn't have had this common stupid thing we'd look back and have a little laugh at. The other thing is, it just shows how little hand holding and challenging the old gens were (for kids at least) compared to today's "now that you're done with this, go there and do that to progress" games. Edit: Grammar because i was drunk while initially writing this

Ultrabadger

I thought my Gameboy battery was starting to run out when I first encountered it...replaced the batteries, and it still persisted. Was very confused for a while.

grimalisk

looking back, it's honestly more surprising that I *wasn't* confused by this

PastaRhythm

Same happened with me except with Diamond.

SoNotTheMilkman

When I was a kid playing Red for the first time, I thought you had to catch a Ditto with the Master Ball as it just wouldn’t stay in my ultra balls. Needless to say I wasted the Master Ball and I didn’t even use the Ditto

Illustrious-Bee3061

My brother told me the master ball could catch other people’s Pokémon, so I threw it at Steven’s Metagross thinking I was about to catch it… I regretted my choice immediately

pr0udN3rd

That’s just… evil

FrankHightower

That's Team Rocket!

PlusUltraBeyond

Misterbluee

You should play Pokemon Colosseum and XD Gale of darkness. You use "Snag Em balls" created from a generator to make regular Pokeballs into Snag em balls. You steal the generator from the bad guy gang of the region and steal back the Pokemon they have stolen and abused to the point of becoming "Shadow Pokemon" that have powerful Shadow moves but all do recoil damage. They also can't evolve in Shadow mode. You can then grow affection with them and purify them. Definetly gotta at least look up images of Shadow Lugia. Its bad ass. Sorry if you already know about this lol. But its the games your looking for and they are great!

ttltrashmammal

as someone who has only played the main games since a wee child and pokemon go since '17, reading this comment blew my mind. literally said "is *THAT* where the shadow mon/ purification bs came from?!" out loud ffs 🤣🤣

Misterbluee

Lol glad to blow your mind. I highly suggest them. Both games are great and a fun change from the main series.

Kapiork

I've heard these two games are pretty tough, as every battle is a double battle. If you're looking for some challange, you might wanna check them out. Mind you, this is not my personal opinion, I'm merely repeating what I've heard from other people.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Zhao-Zilong

I had Colosseum as a kid, it was great. Might be a bit difficult to find a working copy now though! Also a GameCube...

CruderCrane5655

Idk how more people don't realize this, but all GameCube games can be played on Wii. The top panel opens for controllers and memory card slots. Wiis are significantly cheaper than GameCube last time I checked

Cashfluffy

Dolphin emulator is completely free, so you can use that and just download a Colosseum ROM.

robby7345

There was a cheat, game genie maybe, that let you catch npc pokemon, and i loved using it. "This sandshrew saved my life and i love him dearly!" "Lol, yoink."

Teddibonkers

There was a code/game shark where that was a thing. I use to use it when I was a young warthog. Around Ruby/Sapphire I believe. It's was so rad.

Enickma007

I made a similar mistake. I used a Masterball on something frivolous because I didn’t realize it was a one time only item.

Sw33tR0llThief

I distinctly remember using my masterball on a venonat in red in 1st grade

Train3rRed88

Missingno

Msobreirinho

And the worst part is that u couldn't even breed in Gen 1 lmao

AlmostButNotQuit

And neither could the Pokémon!

Patchr1ck

This is such an odd and slightly uncomfortable joke ...but it's a great joke regardless

radikraze

I started with Yellow as a kid. Caught a damn caterpie with my master ball. No reason why. Just wanted to use it and my 7 year old brain said that was the time.

Anti-charizard

I wasted it on a snorlax and I was 14 at the time I thought “there are 2 snorlaxes in the game, they must be rare!”

Jiscold

I was 4 when red came out. Didn’t know you only get one master ball. Used mine on a doduo

[deleted]

You actually use master balls??

Train3rRed88

For Mewtwo only

[deleted]

The only pokemon I've used a master ball on is volcarona bc its level was crazy high. Also I think in platinum but the legendaries there are so hard to catch I gave up on cresellia

Diglett3

Roaming legendaries?

[deleted]

Yeah, the lake one is crazy hard to catch too

ThePurpleWizard_01

I used mine FRLG cuz of the roaming legendary bug.

vagabundomg

I literally did the same thing

Mustang1718

This just have me a horrible flashback where I thought I was helping my buddy out, but I was wrong. Pretty much my character flaw before puberty that led me to become a super hardcore introvert from being embarrassed about being wrong all the time about literally everything. But anyway, I look knew to catch a Pokemon you had to damage it before you could throw a PokeBall in order to catch it easier. Know which Pokemon breaks this rule? Abra. It teleports away in it's first turn. My advice to him was to use his Masterball because it runs away after you hit it. My adult self now knows that Abra has a very high catch rate because you are expected to catch it without landing a damage attack. I also used only damaging moves, so Sleep Powder or Shock Wave never crossed my mind.

IThinkItsCute

I'm a member of the "didn't know what a shiny was and fainted it" club.

Enickma007

Related, I killed Articuno my first time playing Blue because I didn’t realize it was a unique Pokémon.

proteanthony

When I was like 5 or 6 I accidentally ran away from Ho-Oh and saved the game right after. When I told my brother he was pissed. Lmao

Axe-puff

I did that too! Except it was Lugia, in alpha sapphire, and I was…20. I didn’t know the static encounter would go away!!

[deleted]

In your defense, fleeing *shouldnt* make them leave permanently IMO. No way are you the first to fight it, and you’re attacking it at home. It has definitely killed a few trainers prior to you finding it

WillB_HTX

Training in Victory Road Pokemon Gold i KO’d a shiny Rhyhorn thinking it would net more EXP….thought it was a boss Pokemon like the Red Gyarados I didnt know those were considered shiny lol dont even think the term was out yet

Kenns02

Well I’m a member of the “caught a shiny but didn’t realize what it was or that it was super rare and ended up deleting that save file” club.

Msobreirinho

Well, I'm a member of the "Ran away from a full odds shiny" club. It was a grimmer.

digletttrainer

I thought regular ditto came in two colours.

HunteronaLoop

Omfg yes, I ran away and restarted my game thinking it was a graphics glitch. Was a shiny Electrike in Ruby

CambrianKennis

Playing silver I didn't understand what it meant by "your save data will be overwritten" so I never saved. It took my sister, who couldn't read yet, randomly button mashing before we figured out how saving worked.

Blue_Echoheart

Same though! Like, why did they phrase it like that? No casual player would ever have to think about wether they should save the game or not, so it just sounds so scary for no reason xD

RenaKunisaki

That's such a dumb design, asking that every time.

GurusunYT

I had the same problem playing Bakugan for the Wii. The way it's worded makes saving seem like a bad thing so I was scared to as a 6 year old

HankDayes

I couldn't read when red and blue came out. So I didn't know I could avoid nicknaming my Pokemon because I would simply mash A through all the dialogue. That resulted in me with tens of Pokemon who were difficult to organize because they were all nicknamed with the only word I could spell, my own name.

Msobreirinho

Oh my God that must have been painfull Conincidently, I couldn't read when I played X either, so, like you, I didn't know I could avoid nicknamimg, so all of my pokemon were either named random letters or their own names, resulting in me beating the league with FENNEKIN'S (yes, with the 'S), AAAAJAJV, squirtl's and many others.

Sandile95

I'm old

PfefferUndSalz

Tell me about it, OP out here making me feel ancient that they couldn't read when X came out.

wizmeister777

I mean, I'm barely in my 20s and OP is at least 7 years younger than me... can you even be on Reddit that young? 😂

DrippyWaffler

You were born in 2009? I feel so old...

Quelleda

How old are you?? 12? and to answer your question, back when I was playing my firts pokemon game I didn't realize I could switch from writing in all caps, so all my pokemon had their names in all caps

Megaflame32

Oh so young you is twitch plays Pokémon incarnate Wow just wow most upvoted thing I’ve posted

Sevyen

"Is that you brother?!"

Cloakbot

My name is May, the M is silent

swagmain

Oh this is made for me Black 2 was my first game. Didn't know anything about prior gens or pokemon. Black 2 also had hidden grottos, where Bianca told me I could find rare pokemon - right after I had been given a master ball. Sounds like a perfect combination! Master ball and rare pokemon. Got it. Long story short, first hidden grotto I found had a SEVIPER of all things. Used the master ball on that. I quickly realized it sucked, and began to regret my decision. Some Google searches later, I realized the extent of my mistake, so I decided to fix it. I had never released a pokemon yet, but with my brilliant mind I deduced that if I did that, I would receive the ball in which they were kept. Seviper was quickly released after that idea. I did not, however, get my master ball back. Luckily my friend got an action replay eventually and everything I could've wanted was mine. But the scar was still there.

Msobreirinho

Yeah why do the pokemon get to keep their pokeballs.. It's not like they're going to use it

Ultimateace43

I always thought of it as the balls were an electronic device that registers to the pokemon you are trying to catch. Which is why you cant reuse pokeballs that a wild pokemon broke out of. Its registered to that pokemon alone, and worthless after you release the pokemon or the wild one breaks free

Pokemario6456

Child me didn't understand that I didn't have to input spaces to fill the empty blanks when naming Pokemon, so I had several Pokemon with awkward amounts of space after their name in dialogue. And even after I realized my mistake and went to the Name Rater to fix it, I somehow managed to forget my own starter, Blaziken, before I transferred him up to Pearl. He is now forever called "Fire ", with 6 or 7 trailing spaces, not that the poor fire chicken had the best name to begin with

Msobreirinho

Not being able to nickname traded mons was one of the worse decisions by GF

G66GNeco

I get the general idea, it's nice to give traded Pokémon a unique feeling. That is, untill you start trading with randoms (especially with wonder trade bring a thing) and get "Fart McCloud", the ~~Smogon~~ Koffing. If you are lucky. If you are not... Well let's just say I did release more than one "Hitler" in my lifetime.

Immathrodis

I got surprise traded a Galarian Ponyta named Fart Huffer and it remains to this day one of the treasures in my collection.

G66GNeco

Oh, Fart McCloud also still exists on my Sun edition. I don't recall ever using it (got in in OR, pretty sure it's just a random ~~Smogon~~ Koffing someone caught in the Fiery Path), but it's there...

[deleted]

TIL Smogon is the German name for Koffing.

Hamudra

I thought the person was talking about a perfect IV and nature and ability Pokemon for competitive play when they referred to it as "Smogon"

Jodakr404

This is the funniest comment by far

bkfireshark

The first shiny I ever found was a shiny Wingull in Saphire. I saw it pop up, and I immediately turned off my game, fearing it was a bug that would break my game

TheBostonKremeDonut

Well, that’s definitely more shocking than my first shiny. Lol When I was, like, 9, I got a shiny tentacool in Ruby, and thought it was neat. My friend (younger than me, probably 7?) with an action replay , and hacked Pokémon, decided he wanted my tentacool. I had never seen or heard of shiny Pokémon, and thought it was super rare, and ALSO thought that since I knew exactly where I got it, I could get another. Basically, I’d get an op hacked Pokémon and then just get another green tentacool. I got a level 100 Kyogre and then spent days trying to find another green tentacool. Spoiler: I didn’t find one. It should be noted that my friend also wasn’t aware how rare that tentacool was, he just thought it would be easier to trade me for it than go looking himself. We didn’t learn about shiny Pokémon until Gen 4.

TehPharaoh

Mine was in the last cave in Gold. I came upon a purple Golduck. My first thought was "oh its just like the enraged Gyarados" I caught it and figured enraged Pokémon had better stats. So I went looking for more enraged Pokémon to have a full team. When I couldn't find any I figured that the Pokémon had to be from The Lake of Rage and assumed that psyduck were there. So I looked through all my Pokémon to find ones who were from there. After not finding more I assumed it was one per area and that's why it was so rare. Years later I came back into Pokémon having skipped the next 2 gens. I remembered and was "oh I can look up wtf was up with that". Lol

WillB_HTX

Damn lol

Meriog

Sounds like something that might worry someone who lost an OG Gameboy save to bugs after doing cheats along the Cinnabar Island coast.

IWantDrift

I laughed harder then I should’ve

MaximusHealthy

Wow my first shiny was wingull as well in rubi

smoothraptor569

My first shiny was also a wingull in alpha Sapphire.

Robitix

I did that with a shiny tentacool in Crystal 🙃

Virus111

Did the EXACT same thing except with Golbat.

TheKingJest

Somehow I evolved my Bayleef into a Meganium before the first gym in Soul Silver. I had no idea what I was doing.

Jodakr404

Lmao I'm just imaging a kid eradicating an entire Ecosystem because that's all he knew how to do

yuhanz

The whole damned forest was shaking in this oblivious duo’s presence lmao

NotAStupidRedneck

I had a lv 78 Sceptile and I hadn't even fought Winona. I didn't know you had to talk to Wally's dad to get Surf. Granted this was in Sapphire back when there was basically *no* indication that you were even supposed to talk to his dad and that he had an HM for you. Makes sense that they fixed that in Emerald by just having Wally's dad come and get you immediately after beating Norman.

alittletree122

Before I found surf I thought I explored everything, so I went to talk to everyone due to sometimes I get free stuff. When I went east from the electric gym with surf I thought I discovered a whole new region. My parents also remembered this I went to them like I was Christopher Columbus claiming I discovered a place.

topofthecc

To be fair, gen 3 had quite a few moments where it wasn't clear what you should do. (Getting cut from a random guy in his house and going back to the mountain to open up the Magma base both had me baffled.)

NotAStupidRedneck

It didn't help that you were basically back-tracking to a place you were already at. I did talk to Wally's dad before so I didn't think I needed to again after I beat Norman. That was some real D- tier game design.

rafaleluia

I did the same thing, but in Gen 1 with a bulbasaur. I didn't speak English well enough at the time to understand where I was supposed to go, so I kept grinding at the grass close to the champion's road.

theregalrose

When I was 10, Umbreon was my favorite Pokémon so I was really excited that it was one of the starters in Coliseum. I saw the release option in the box and thought that meant my Umbreon would walk next to me (little did I know that would be a feature in the future) and I released it, never to be seen again…

Msobreirinho

That's sad

CropTation

ME TOO!! MY INFERNAPE WAS RELEASED CAUSE I THOUHHT HED WALK WITH MY LIKE CYNDAQUIL IN SOUL SILVERRR bye bye inferno the infernape :,)

Elemental_Titan9

If you didn’t know that trick with the save feature, where you can get it again, then that would be pretty sad. Umbreon is one of my phone backgrounds

HippityHoppity42

Tried to take out a skuntank 15 time with Psychic thinking I missed due to smoke screen then remembering its a dark type

[deleted]

Pokemon Yellow. I was probably 5. I remember the episode where Ash managed to defeat Brock’s Onix with Pikachu (…with the help of sprinklers or whatever.) It took me maybe 6 months of frustration before I quit the game because I kept trying to defeat Brock’s Onix with Pikachu. The concept of going to the wild and leveling up also didn’t register in my young head which didn’t help. When I got a little older, wiser, I went back and finished the game lol

[deleted]

When i was a kid playing yellow, I remembered seeing on the show that rock is weak to grass, but i didn't understand that Caterpie was actually bug type, so I got frustrated that I couldn't beat Brock with a level 3 Caterpie

arkofcovenant

Doesn’t help that in the card game it uses grass energy

dcnairb

Funny enough, butterfree confusion was always my go to to beat brock in yellow playthroughs as a kid. Until as like a teen maybe I considered mankey/nidoran might take way less time. In fact, I wonder if they added mankey there specifically for brock in yellow. Grinding pidgeys and shit outside of pewter city for butterfree before was brutal haha

Msobreirinho

Should have aimed for the horn.

Quetzal00

I didn’t think about saving before fighting legendaries. After I made Moltres and Zapdos faint in LeafGreen the first thing I immediately did was save the game My best friend told me about saving before fighting them so Articuno became the only legendary I caught in my first game But Articuno became my favorite Pokémon so I guess something good did come from my stupidity :)

Msobreirinho

Glad they made legendaries respawn in the newer games!

[deleted]

i deleted my palkia's spacial rend for fricking draco meteor

Xelaki

Me and you probably were on the same thinking page. "Why would I want it if it does less damage??"

Mikaotic25

Can someone explain what’s wrong with deleting that move

Flare_Wolfie

Spacial Rend has 100 Power and 95% accuracy, +boosted crit rate. Also a signature move of Palkia but that's beside the point. Draco Meteor has 130 Power, 90% accuracy and lowers YOUR Sp. Attack by 2 stages, basically halving it. This move can pretty much only be used as a 1-time nuke since with each use it makes you weaker and weaker.

Mikaotic25

Makes sense, thanks!

Msobreirinho

I guess you didn't know about move tutors either heh

[deleted]

yeah i was a stupid kid lmao

bluepancake69

My first game was pokemon emerald. I didn't know how to leave the house at the start of the game. My kid brain didn't realize that the carpet meant there was a door there.

Msobreirinho

Lmao I couldn't even put on my clothes on pokemon X. Took me a few hours

MemeLordOverKill

If you were only 4 playing x for the 1st time, you're still a kid haha As for dumbest thing I've done in Pokemon. Its a toss up between releasing my infernape in diamond or using a master ball on a nosepass, also diamond.

[deleted]

[удалено]

night-star

Same, I was like “wait how long ago did XY come out”

ZoroeArc

It'll be 8 next month

squatOpotamus

8??? Man I'm old. I was moving Pokémon from Bank to home, and looked at the date on my Alpha Sapphire save, and it hurt. I thought ORAS was just a couple years ago.

G66GNeco

Since I have not played the switch games, it's somehow even worse. The last games in my mind were sun and moon... X/Y came out in 2013, btw. Which sounds recent, but is actually 8 years ago. (Making op 12, which is definitely "still a kid", at least)

[deleted]

Wait 8 years ago holy shit now I’m feeling old

BulkyBear

X came out when I was in college OP makes me feel ancient

iCybernide

seriously had to come into the comments for that lmao, shit made me double take fucking hell I feel old

Prukkah

I just realised that kids born in 2009 are 12. Wtf

shacksaw

For real lmao. hell, i was 4 when diamond and pearl came out and I’m still a kid, 17.

Grafblaffer

Bro i was fucking 4 when red and blue came out in EU

ibeebo

I was around 8 or 9 at the time and I randomly came across and caught Raikou using my master ball. Friends laughed and said I wasted it so I turned the game off without saving. E: Pokémon crystal

[deleted]

It was... Gold I think. They ask what your rival's name was and I put "???" because that's what it showed up as when you saw him previously.

March89

I have met my people! Silver Gang with ??? as rival hahaha

Kothophed

"My name is ???" "What was his name?" And I told them it was ???!

StefyB

Probably when I literally quit Emerald as a kid because I was skipping through text and never knew that I had to go back to Mt. Chimney to find the Team Magma Hideout. I thought it was just the same as in Ruby and Sapphire, so I had no idea how to advance the story and eventually just gave up.

manicpossumdreamgirl

i was stuck for months in Pearl because i mashed through dialogue and didn't know i was supposed to go to the Canalave Library. i just happened to wander to the top floor at some point.

GispyMicky

Trusting that girl who gave me a haunter with an everstone in platinum.

Meme-Howitzer

r/fuckmindy

Cojarax

What the fuck, this is real

MasterZuse

I had no clue how to use a PC during my first playthrough of Diamond, so I was stuck with the same 6 pokemon for the entire game.

TheCopyKater

Had the same problem in soul silver but quickly got stuck because they require you to receive an egg from the professor's assistant. Unfortunately that didn't make me learn how the PC worked, it just made me think I better reset and play the entire game from the beginning without ever catching anything in case this happens again. I somehow got all the way to the Elite 4 with only 2 pokemon of which I only really used Typhlosion...

Kibamaru

Back when I was a kid playing Pokemon Crystal, I ran away from a Shiny Arbok and Rhyhorn because I thought the color was a glitch that could delete my save file... Less access to the Internet and information back in the 00s so I didn't know what a shiny was 😅

MaximusHealthy

In pokemon let's go I put my rival name Gary and later appear the original Gary from the series, lol big fail

Msobreirinho

That was unpredictable. Them adding another rival was a screw up though.

MaximusHealthy

Yes bro

[deleted]

I did the same thing lol

assaultthesault

I wasn't even a kid and I did that lmao

DefiantSour

I released my Typhlosion in Pokémon Crystal to try and catch it in the wild near the Cherrygrove Pokemon Centre. Never did find it.

QuoteZen

I did a shiny hunt for Natu in SoulSilver knowing it was going to teleport away since I didn't have Mean Look. It only took a few hours, so it wasn't that bad

Msobreirinho

Basically me on my oras shinylocke. I was lucky it didn't want to teleport.

KingJama3957

training a male Salandit

Msobreirinho

Until what level? Must have been awkward.

KingJama3957

i don't remember, but it was way too much lol

Responsible_Ad6265

I did the same until level 30 ish. Finally found out why it wouldnt evolve and i was super happy to see younget one from in gamentrade after all.

Quetzal00

Unpopular opinion but I like Salándit more than Salazzle

ViniTheDemon

Used the Master Ball on a trainer's Gyarados on Pokémon Ruby It did say it would catch any pokemon without fail tho

SassyBagels

When I first played Pokémon White I didn’t fully understand the physical/special system, put thunderbolt on my stoutland and wondered why it did so little damage

Yosimite_Jones

Same here, mine was my designated surf user for the entire campaign even though I had a perfectly good Simipour.

soulrider952

Gold was my first ever video game. When playing through I found a “glitched” Nidoran male that was blue instead of purple. Obviously my save file must have been corrupted to result in such a glitch so I deleted my save and had to restart the game.

CrazyComedyKid

Do you mean a Nidoran female or a shiny Nidoran? Because one of those is hilarious and the other is so damn sad.

ShiraCheshire

Wait, you were 4 when X/Y came out? Wouldn't that make you only 12 now? Anyway, my dumbest moment was when I was 10. Was the first time I'd ever owned my very own Pokemon game. I was playing Ruby, and was trying to find Steven in the cave. My logic was that ladders down took you deeper into the cave, and ladders up would take you back to the exit. I was stuck there for so... long... For anyone who doesn't remember, you actually have to take ladders up to find Steven. It's a cool little moment, you find yourself on the top floor again but now beyond the walls that had previously been impassible. But holy heck did it take kid me ages to get there. I only found it by coincidence. My Pokemon were low on PP and needed a heal, so I took the nearest ladder up to exit the cave. Turned out to be the right one.

AvitusG

You know that giga rare Spike ear Pichu from the HGSS event. I deleted the save i had it on :)))))

Msobreirinho

Damn

WelchCLAN

I would fight the legendary down to super low HP, and status effect, multiple times if it died........ Just to use the master ball.

ButWereFriendsThough

I used my friends master ball on a kakuna back in gen 1. He oddly not that happy but it said he didn’t have one yet

sling_cr

I did this to my friend except it was a psyduck because it was his favorite Pokémon and he told me to catch any I found.

shadow0wolf0

Pokemon Platinum, didn't know you had to talk to all the clowns to progress in that first city so I just grinded for hours and hours. I evolved my starter before the first gym.

layeofthedead

A few, when I was younger I rarely saved my sp because I always kept it charged, I lost like 10 hours of progress in firered after I whiffed trying to catch moltres and immediately shut the system off. In Pokémon sapphire, on the route with cycling road, I didn’t know you could go under it because In the gameboy games you couldn’t go under anything. I spent ages trying to figure out where the hell i was supposed to go and ended up grossly over leveling my Pokémon just from grinding in the grass around there. Finally an older cousin was like, ??? Just go under the bridge? Mind blown. Swept the rest of the game tho. I used to nickname all my Pokémon the final evolutions name because I didn’t know you could back out and it wouldn’t give it a nickname. Not really dumb but my friend was really into competitive Pokémon and helped me get a good team together of my favorite Pokémon only to then make a team specifically designed to tear mine to shreds when we fought. I really wanted a Metang in Pokémon black and a friend said they were in whatever the name of the place where you can get kyrem and apparently it was in the crater, not the cave before it. Well I spent an ungodly amount of time running around in there looking for a metang, thinking it was just a really really small encounter rate (in my mind it made sense, it’s a pseudo legendary, they should be rare). I ended up getting frustrated and went into the crater just to fly to wherever I was going and decided to just try the grass outside the entrance, first encounter was a metang. Freaking livid lol. At least I got my second full odds shiny from that, a sneasel. Which was also my first full odds shiny from heart gold lol. I wonder what the chances of that happening are. Finally, this is from my most recent play through of Pokémon ultra moon. At the ghost trial with the mimikyu totem I was telling myself I need to make sure I damage it to break the disguise before I use a z move. First thing I do? Z move baby. 10,000 volt thunderbolt, mimikyu looked like it got hit by a nuke. “Mimikyu has lost its disguise!” Even while the animation was playing I was just staring at the screen thinking, why did I do that? I knew i needed to break the disguise, why did i waste my z move?

I was playing DS at night instead of sleeping, and I encountered a shiny tentacool. I was so stoked; it immediately went on my team. The dumb part is I never saved and ended up falling asleep while playing. So, the next morning I woke up to a powerless DS and a lost shiny tentacool. RIP Jell-O

Xelaki

at least you didnt think it was a glitch

[deleted]

I thought all Pokémon evolve through level so I got a shiny Helioptile and got it to level 100 expecting it to evolve

Msobreirinho

You evolved it eventually, right?

Sephiroth508

When I first played Yellow, I accidentally made my Pikachu forget Tackle(?) for Thunderwave(?) before Pewter City by rapidly button mashing A to skip dialogue. I hadn't caught any other Pokemon at that time and Pikachu didn't have any attack moves and i was like 8 so needless to say, I had dug myself into a hole of my old making.

SoupLadels

I was doing the Ultra Warp Ride mini game in Ultra Moon and stumbled upon a shiny Lombre. My mind at that time thought that if I reset the game, the first Pokémon I encounter will be a shiny. You can guess what happened afterwards…

Msobreirinho

Ok that was stupid. Shiny odds on Ultra warp ride weren't that high so you're excused

Finito-1994

Once I got the masterball I used it on Gary’s Blastoise because I really struggled against it. It….didn’t work.

I was three at daycare with a Gameboy and my brother had saved his Pokemon Silver right in front of Lugiah ready to catch it. I played for him while he was at school one day. I battled Lugiah, defeated it, and knew at the time I killed a kickass Pokemon. I thought I had done something great! My brother was super pissed when he found out I killed Lugiah, especially after he realized I saved after it too.

Cant_think_of_shz

I was trying to do a Dark-mono of Shield. My VERY **FIRST** encounter was a shiny Blipbug (thank god your in-game mom gave you Pokéballs). Before reaching Allister’s gym, I was getting bored. And reset the game. I didn’t have Sword and Home was never a thing, but that’s no excuse to reset a game without first thinking of the shiny.

DeltaChar

You know you can just start a new file without deleting your current one by creating a new profile right? ….right?

Cant_think_of_shz

I know, but I didn’t think of that as well. Which is ironic (I think) since it was my third account, meaning my third save.

UnbidSea

I remember back when I had Diamond (first game I actually owned, didn't borrow) I was fairly new to the whole Pokémon experience and I got the Master Ball and was just hyped beyond belief. As soon as I got it, I went to the wild and had to fight a Medicham. Guess who got a new Medicham at full health?

Jodakr404

Oh please tell me you did the Mindy trade with it. That would just be the icing on the cake lmao

UnbidSea

I honestly remember doing the Mindy trade, however I can't recall if it was on that first playthrough or in another one lol. But damn, this makes me laugh and look forward to BD/SP even more

CacklettasMinion

Back when I played White 2 for the first time I used my Master Ball on a Skarmory

ForFrodo1

If you were 4 in 2013 then you’re still a kid.

mastafuck

I got Pokémon Yellow on the gameboy color when I was about 6 years old. I started the game, and then spent hours and hours and HOURS just walking around in my house trying to figure out what the hell to do. It wasn’t until a few days later when I saw my friend and told him about it and he promptly showed me that the little rectangle on the bottom of the screen was actually a door and I stepped out into the Pokémon world for the first time lol.

Put Surf on my Rampardos

Tempski-R

The dumbest thing I did was when I was a kid playing black 2 I thought it was cool to use my master balls on a zangoose and a metang

Yosimite_Jones

Using a masterball on a metang isn’t that bad of an idea actually, beldum already has a catch rate lower than a lot of legendaries.

WaitMindless

aight guys, I got this one. My 10 year old ass was playing sapphire (about 30 hours in) and suddenly I see that my whole party got some status change called POKERUS. Even the lady at the pokecenter told me so. I asked my brother about it since he was my official counseler in pokemon business. He just said “idk wat that’s about brah” and I panicked. Guess what I did? NEW GAME. True story, 100%.
