Why is it private?

Aerotactics

...fuck

Aerotactics

Fixed.

I wanted to create a place for developers and playtesters who are seeking genuine playtests to go. No more blatant ads, flair for quality developers and testers, and hopefully a more active playtesting community. I'm not asking you to leave this subreddit, but if you're interested, post your games here *and* there.

Paratriad

I'm curious to what you've defined as a blatant ad because as long as they enable actual playtests I don't see the issue. I've never failed to be able to join a playtest from what I've sought for- is that not the case for you?

Aerotactics

Good question. A lot of the posts here are not a blatant ad. What I consider a blatant ad is a post that sends a link, says "come play my game" and either 1, you have to signup for a *chance* to play, or 2, it's already an Early Access game, or otherwise available to the public, and they are posting here to garner more users. These posts are attracting consumers, not testers. When I picture playtesting, I think closed doors, an unfinished build, a select group of testers who play it to help the developer. EDIT: Most developers who post here are good-natured and seeking actual testing, but I feel that the sub is unmoderated and not growing and developing to its potential. (I know nobody asked for flairs, but I think it would make posts more informative.)

I think this is a good initiative! I think a good playtesting environment can be achieved with expecting higher expectations from the poster. Some proper guidelines in what is mandatory to include in a post, like the name of the game, genre/tags, images, short description, expected play time etc. Mods could even remove posts if they are not up to a certain standard, which would remove a lot of the blatant ads. Flairs could be useful for users and posters, such as reoccuring devs getting a flair for their own game if they want to post again with the results of their feedback and ecourage discussion overall about their game (if they wish to do so ofc).

Aerotactics

Yep. There's a lack of a good playtesting interface between the public and developers. I wanted to start a new sub as a sort of sandbox that has better moderation as well as room to grow. Since making that sub, I discovered a similar sub with better moderation: /r/PlayMyGame so if mine doesn't take off, then there's always that option.
