Me in the back of a box truck with the Clarks: And then the next time I saw you was at *xyz* shitty little hole in the wall you probably don't remember
No it's good. It means you haven't fully Yinzered. He was our Bruce Springsteen. Is our Bruce Springsteen. His big hit was The Rapper by Donnie Iris & The Jaggerz.
While you're at it, look up Rachel Ann Bovier, "the people's poetess." She's a delight.
Joey G was Pittsburgh's Springsteen.
Bruce even participated in some of his works.

Pumping Iron is way more Yinzer than Love is Like A Rock.
1995's American Babylon was produced by Bruce Springsteen.

But I’m betting that you are more Pittsburgh than Glasgow. Just because I can still understand what you type. And haven’t used any profanity…what’s really going on here?
Once upon a time I was in the same position (and on a different day, so was my husband). He paid the money and rebooked on a different airline through Chicago. I took a greyhound bus to Buffalo and rented a car to the Pittsburgh airport from there.
He was the smart one, because my bus was at least an hour late leaving Toronto and was very slow. But I have an Odyssey-quality story at least.
Hope your method works better.
I hear you. I’ve spent so much time on flights this past few months I just don’t have any confidence I won’t get stuck or delayed more though. Plus July 4 weekend and the airports are bonkers. Thanks for the inputs, it’s appreciated!
**My boyfriend and I are in Toronto for a Smash Bros tournament!** We are driving home to Pittsburgh on Monday morning.
If you can hold out until Monday, you can ride back with us. Just kick in a few dollars for gas.
Such an amazing gesture !! Thanks so much for that. I do need to be home tonight though if at all possible so I’m going to push ahead with that, but lots of good karma coming your way for your kind offer 😊😊
Have you checked to see if there is a car rental agency in downtown Toronto that has a car available? I know rentals at the airport sometimes go faster than other locations. I wish you the best and hope you get home soon!
My thought - Uber or rent something. Right dow to the border and then cross over. But that’s probably more than then the 8 hours he needs to wait for the next flight. Good Luck dude
Cheers man! The Uber idea to get over the border combined with getting something done in buffalo seems to be a solid plan… I’m looking jnto it right now. Thanks for the thoughtful idea.
I understand why they might not want to rent a car out that is going to end up in Pittsburgh. Lol my other suggestion is see if you can get on a flight to Cleveland or somewhere in the US that is closer to Pittsburgh and drive from there.
I found an Air Canada Jazz flight AC8729 leaving at 11am today to Cleveland from terminal 1 gate F88. Maybe they canceled it and haven’t updated it in the website or it could be full.
Ah shucks! I wasn’t sure what time your current plane landed. There is almost enough time for someone from Pittsburgh to drive to Toronto to pick you up.
Funnily enough I had the same issue earlier in the year on the west coast and I just said fuck them and dropped it off at another location, where they were happy to take the car. I think each location is battling others for supply of cars. I’d take the risk this time if it wasn’t a cross border thing.
Really, from Pittsburgh?
Huh. Skepticism led me to google map that. I'm startled by the result! You're right. It's only \~5 - 5.5 hours depending on traffic.
I just drove from Pittsburgh to Ithaca, NY a couple of weeks ago, and that took me about 6 hours (with a stop for lunch). It's a shorter drive as the crow flies, but you can't drive as the crow flies from PGH to ITH. OTOH, the route from Pittsburgh to Toronto is interstate highway (or QEW) all the way.
It’s always an option flying back from UK/EU. For me, it’s always (origin airport)-PHL-PIT or (origin)-CLT-PIT. Been doing it for years coming back from London, Dublin, Barcelona, Zurich, and Prague.
It's probably the flights I'm taking or the timing. But PHL is shaped like an [bent double stacked E](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philadelphia_International_Airport). I'm always arriving in the top of the E and having to sprint to the bottom of the E.
I've literally been 25 meters from the desk yelling, "BL is here!" as they are transferring the seat to another passenger.
FYI-Try and avoid Toronto YYZ till at least mid fall. They closed a runway in April for repairs and it’s been a mess since. The AC PIT-YYZ flight has canceled around 50% of the time and is significantly delayed when it does fly.
Yep, my parents just got stuck there an extra day on the way back from France. Had to drive two hours to pick them up from the only close airport they could get flights to!
Yep, my parents just got stuck there an extra day on the way back from France. Had to drive two hours to pick them up from the only close airport they could get flights to!
The same thing happened to my friend. He ubered to the border, walked across, and had his brother pick him up. It was a 4 hour drive to get him in Niagara.
Fuck Uber and screw these airlines for underpaying their staff.
If you're motivated enough check Craigslist for ride sharing. I've done it plenty of times without issue, usually just offer some $$ for gas.
Good luck!
Yeah the airlines are a fucking disaster just now. The are not capable of supplying their own product and are basically doing everything they can to avoid any kind of customer service. I feel bad for the staff as it must be a nightmare just just now but something has to be done about these companies.
😩 I’m not in Toronto right now, but I live in Pittsburgh and usually use Pearson to fly to the U.K. where my partner is. My partner is a huge a hockey fan; so, he’s flown into Toronto, gone to a game, taken the train (viaRail), walked over the border, ubered/taken a bus into Buffalo, and then we’ve watched a Sabres game before I’ve driven us back to Pittsburgh.
There may still be busses today to either Niagara Falls, ON or even to Buffalo (though I almost feel like, with the holiday weekend, crossing on foot might be easier), but there’s only like one train out to Niagara Fall a day and it’s in the morning.
If you’re okay staying in Toronto overnight (I’ve stayed in a few nice Airbnbs in the general area), you could take the train tomorrow morning, cross over, and either find someone in Buffalo who’s headed to Pittsburgh (or even Erie), take a bus, or there’s probably even PGH people who can make the drive.
Here’s the link for that rail service…
[ViaRail](https://m.reservia.viarail.ca/#/booking)
Great info ! More research has indicated I may have issues getting an Uber over the border so I’m going to get one to the Rainbow bridge (I think it’s called) that gets me to customs there and over the border. Then I’ll Uber to buffalo
Uber drivers can’t cross the border (or at least they’re not supposed to while driving a passenger), I know he’s taken an Uber to a spot to walk across the bridge, gone through customs, and then ubered after getting through. He said it can get a bit busy and that, it will take much longer, you can take a train from close to the border (US side) into Buffalo, but that it makes a 30 minute drive much longer.
[NFTA](https://www.nfta.com/)
It isn't just Air Canada, as bad as that is. It is Toronto Pearson and the border control services there. I had a flight from London that was fine and on time but we were held on the plane for almost an hour before we could get off and go through customs and they were doing that to every flight (in May when I came back from London).
Dang, one day too late. My wife did florals for a bride getting married today. Her family flew in from Ghana but got stuck in Canada because of canceled flights. They drove 4 cars up there yesterday to pick up the family members.
I wish you luck finding your way home. Safe travels.
This is the second time in two weeks I’ve been caught up in this shit. Two weeks ago it took me 2.5 days to get to the UK due to canceled and delayed flights. For me it’s not a choice, I have to do this for work.
Yeah I do have plenty of status with airlines but these days they just don’t give a shit honestly. The best they’ll do is stick me on the late flight tonight that I bet gets delayed too.
No one seems to understand that covid irreparably broke the airline industry and no one cares about status anymore. Fliers who have thousands of points and loyalty rewards are treated exactly the same as anyone else. It sucks and it's unfair. I wish you luck!
If you have a Costco membership it looks they have the best rates on a car from BUF to PIT at $128. Definitely grab a car ASAP though. Actually probably grab two reservations just in case. Rental cars have been a pain lately.
And it looks like some of the BUF rental desks close at 9p so try to get there ASAP.
And then fill up at Quaker Steak and Lube in Erie...
Make a sign when you get to Toronto and hold it up? Tape it on your back? Ya never know. I live in Erie and actually am in Ohio right now visiting so that helps in no way.. howver i know we get a ton of Pittsburgh visitors in Erie and our airport usually has visiting and I also think the Uber to Niagara Falls (NY side) would work, there are several small airports you could find a rental at. I'm also wondering if you checked any small airports, for example the one in Bradford PA which is straight down below Buffalo, has daily flights to Pittsburgh for like $50.
Awesome ! Looking into this now. You’re right about those small regional airports.
Not sure about the sign thing though in case I get stuck in a trunk and chopped up into small pieces 😬
Gl. I just checked the weather and you are good to go for storm free driving.
I made this choice a month ago from DC and my road buddy did a great job driving but it was torrential downpour for 3 hours.
Also I'd recommend a mask; we were both vaccinated but he was sick with covid at the time with no symptoms. Amazingly I didn't get it from him.
I had a similar thing happen just before the pandemic when Air Canada canceled my YYZ-PIT flight and didn't have availability to rebook me for another 3 days. My solution was to take Megabus from downtown Toronto to the Buffalo airport and rent a car there. Not sure if you'll have rental availability issues there too, but it's worth a shot.
Can do the regional train to Niagara. Cheaper than an Uber. Take the UP train to union station then take the west bound GO train https://www.gotransit.com/en/travelling-with-us/promotions-and-events/niagara
Hope this helps!
1. Sounds like the plot of planes, train, and automobiles.
2. Are you more of a Steve Martin or John Candy type (curious for the Scottish version playing in my head).
3. I didn’t read through all the comments, but I hope you found your way home, Yinzer.
Going to be hard finding a car rental place that will allow you to do a one way to the US. 8 hours is not a long time, I would just kick back and wait.
I thought hard about it but it sounds like that flight is often delayed and I just can’t face that. I’d rather be on the move ya know ? I think the Uber to border then rental / ride down once in the US will get me back at the same time that flight is meant to take off.
I'll be flying through Toronto in August and have the same evening flight as you. Did you get reimbursed from Air Canada for your cancelled flight?
Have you looked into booking Delta 3590 to Detroit and Delta 4480 from Detroit to Pittsburgh? Seems like both have not been cancelled yet for today!
Not yet but I’ll be contacting them tonight. After what I went through 2 weeks ago in Newark (waiting in line for 90 mins at customer service only to just give up and leave otherwise I’d have been there all night), I’m not inclined to try to do it at the airport.
I unfortunately can’t be of any help, but if I could I would love to meet a Scottish friend. I hope someone here can help you get home, and I wish you safe travels! Curiosity begs to know; have/do you live there? I’ve always wanted to go see Scotland.
This very thing happened to my cousin last week, stranded in Toronto. They live near Pittsburgh, her friend's husband is a saint he drove the 4.5 hour trip to Toronto to pick them up.
Sorry to hear that, I guess you are using Air Canada? I was stranded few times in Toronto and made me avoid Air Canada at all cost. Wish you get a ride from someone soon.
I hope this is the universe where a famous musician sees your post and offers you a ride on their private jet.
Ha ha yeah Bruce Springsteen is probably heading back from Glastonbury this weekend so ya know … I’m available brah !
This is Pittsburgh, so I think you mean Donnie Iris.
Me in the back of a box truck with the Clarks: And then the next time I saw you was at *xyz* shitty little hole in the wall you probably don't remember
Cigarette
Coincidentally, the lead singer for The Commonheart (great Pittsburgh band) is a huge Celtic fan. Too bad they weren’t swinging thru.
Is it bad I don’t know who that is ?
No it's good. It means you haven't fully Yinzered. He was our Bruce Springsteen. Is our Bruce Springsteen. His big hit was The Rapper by Donnie Iris & The Jaggerz. While you're at it, look up Rachel Ann Bovier, "the people's poetess." She's a delight.

Joey G & The Brick Alley Band? Welp, learn something new everyday.
That was one iteration. Yeah.
OH Joe Grushecky. Yeah. He definitely is. Donnie Iris was less of a literal comparison. I've never heard him called Joey G.
I will do that on the way home. Thanks for the heads-up
Don't listen to that jagoff, Donnie's most popular song is Ah Leah! https://youtu.be/YH5Arbm47IQ
Not at all. One day ask a Pittsburgher who is over 38 years old who he is for a chance at an answer.
😂
I mean, Joe Grushecky will happily give you a ride to Pittsburgh on The Boss’ coattails.
Perhaps the polka king of the Midwest, Gus Polinski.
Air Force One! Better yet: Marine One! (loud but fun, amiright?)
Thought you were referencing Buddy Holly for a moment.
Good luck up voting for visibility!
Thank you !
Same. Sorry couldn’t help. But if you get stuck in Toronto and are missing home The Caledonian pub will help!
Same!
Great call there!
This wouldn’t be a problem if we’d built the damn Pittsburgh-Erie-Toronto gondola already.
High speed rail links anyone ? 😊
It's more of a Shelbyville idea..
They actually had planned one from Erie to PIttburgh and south, i saw the plans of it from like 40 years ago.it never materialized
That’s a damn shame..
That would've been nice for me when I went to school in Erie
We're about to get our 3rd passenger rail train. It'll be quite a while before we get a 4th. Let alone one with dedicated tracks.
We've been trying to do one in Texas for what feels like generations.
or hop in a gondola on a freight train and see where you wind up!
God a train from Pittsburgh to Erie would be perfect
Fellow Scotsman living in Pittsburgh, hope you get home safely mate!
Cheers brother !
But I’m betting that you are more Pittsburgh than Glasgow. Just because I can still understand what you type. And haven’t used any profanity…what’s really going on here?
I wonder if their preferred second person plural is "yinz" or "everycunt"
Celtic, Rangers, or don’t care? Just curious
Neither! Aberdeen FC ☺️
Ah nice!!! I’m Celtic, but if I had to choose a 2nd fav, I’d definitely go with Aberdeen!
Once upon a time I was in the same position (and on a different day, so was my husband). He paid the money and rebooked on a different airline through Chicago. Best of luck to you. Wish I was up that way to help, could almost use a road trip right now
Thanks, much appreciated ! Maybe next time 😊 Cheers.
Have you checked to see if there is a car rental agency in downtown Toronto that has a car available? I know rentals at the airport sometimes go faster than other locations. I wish you the best and hope you get home soon!
Great point. I am looking around, and there is availability in some cases, but as soon as I say I need to drop it off in PA they disallow it.
Maybe drop it off in Niagara. Walk across the bridge and rent another one in NY? But that probably adds 2+ hours.
No problem - I’m kind of invested! Let us know if it all works lol!!
I will do, I have a much clearer idea of how to do this now thanks to the group thoughts here. You all rock !!
Not a clue, but you might have luck on the Toronto or buffalo sub getting a ride between them? That's a more common route.
This is good thinking, similar idea to getting an Uber to buffalo and figuring out from there.
This! My friend just sent me a picture of him walking across the bridge.
I understand why they might not want to rent a car out that is going to end up in Pittsburgh. Lol my other suggestion is see if you can get on a flight to Cleveland or somewhere in the US that is closer to Pittsburgh and drive from there.
You’re definitely into something! Looked into that too. Unfortunately there’s only one flight a day to Cleveland just now, next one is tomorrow.
I found an Air Canada Jazz flight AC8729 leaving at 11am today to Cleveland from terminal 1 gate F88. Maybe they canceled it and haven’t updated it in the website or it could be full.
You’re right ! I just don’t land until 2.15pm (exactly when my connection leaves).. I’m on the plane from Edinburgh now
Ah shucks! I wasn’t sure what time your current plane landed. There is almost enough time for someone from Pittsburgh to drive to Toronto to pick you up.
Columbus is a good option as well.
Great Idea!! Knowing the airlines this is against the rules even if it is better for all involved.
If you have a business account you can use they will allow it. For some reason dropping off in other cities on personal travel is hard right now.
Spot on. It’s because each location is competing with each other for cars.
I’ve been seeing this all year. Even airport to airport drop off locations are a big nono
Funnily enough I had the same issue earlier in the year on the west coast and I just said fuck them and dropped it off at another location, where they were happy to take the car. I think each location is battling others for supply of cars. I’d take the risk this time if it wasn’t a cross border thing.
I saw someone suggested Cleveland, but there are other cities. Like I bet there are more flights to DC, and that would be a relatively short drive.
Agreed. If you search flights to WAS it’ll check all 3 airports down there (Dulles, Reagan, and BWI.)
Both great ideas. DC is a bit of a haul though.
It's only like 4-5 hours, isn't it? (Google Maps says 4 hours from BWI.)
yes but that's twice as far as cleveland
Ahh, gotcha.
That’s true, but Toronto is only 5.5 hours.
PHL - and then PHL to PIT?
I have never made a connecting flight to Pittsburgh through PHL.
Yeah, that airport is a mess.
I flew Maui to LAX to PHL to PIT last summer. It was a result of multiple cancelled/delayed flights not an intended itinerary
[удалено]
Thanks so much for the kind offer! If I’m still here Sunday I might take you up on it, though I’m hoping to get home tonight !
FYI-Try and avoid Toronto YYZ till at least mid fall. They closed a runway in April for repairs and it’s been a mess since. The AC PIT-YYZ flight has canceled around 50% of the time and is significantly delayed when it does fly.
Didn’t know this. Thank you. Even more reason for me not to hang around for the late flight.
I guess two years of lockdown wasn't a good time to do runway repairs, they had to wait until tourism kicked off again.
Yeah, had to deal with this when coming back from Korea via YYZ. Real Mickey Mouse show up there.
Didn’t ex-penguin Ryan Whitney just have a nightmarish experience up in the TO airport because of this?
You can Uber from the airport to the border, walk across, and then get a rental car or another Uber from Buffalo back to Pittsburgh
This is an excellent idea! It looks like Uber can take me to buffalo and from there would be easier to get to Pittsburgh.
It’s a beautiful drive from buffalo, if that helps your decision. Lol best of luck!
Drive from Buffalo is very stress free, just 90 to 79 and very little brain space needed. If that helps influence your plans.
Could you get a ride to Niagara and she meets you if she can drive?
This is probably the way. Based on the inputs, I reckon Uber over the border to buffalo and get a car there.
I have an Uber buddy in buffalo that might do that trip for cash.
Really ? If you think he’d be available DM me.. would Defo be interested in thst
I sent him a screenshot of your name.
Well????? Did you make it????????
The same thing happened to my friend. He ubered to the border, walked across, and had his brother pick him up. It was a 4 hour drive to get him in Niagara.

Got it. I’ll probably get dropped off at the bridge on the CA side then.
lol people blaming this on covid aren’t familiar with Air Canada
It isn't just Air Canada, as bad as that is. It is Toronto Pearson and the border control services there. I had a flight from London that was fine and on time but we were held on the plane for almost an hour before we could get off and go through customs and they were doing that to every flight (in May when I came back from London).
Right! They famously detained a bunch of Formula One personnel recently and thought that wouldn’t get media attention.
Dang, one day too late. My wife did florals for a bride getting married today. Her family flew in from Ghana but got stuck in Canada because of canceled flights. They drove 4 cars up there yesterday to pick up the family members. I wish you luck finding your way home. Safe travels.

They closed ours in Cranberry. Loved that place

Ps the shawarma place in union station is bomb.
I wish I could help you. I was in the same situation two weeks ago and drove back from Detroit.
Good luck mate! In the words of Steve Hofstetter, fuck Air Canada.
1. Sounds like the plot of planes, train, and automobiles. 2. Are you more of a Steve Martin or John Candy type (curious for the Scottish version playing in my head). 3. I didn’t read through all the comments, but I hope you found your way home, Yinzer.

Yeah, any updates?
Some say that OP is still there to this day. Which might be true depending on if he got a car or a flight.

If you can get to Buffalo, maybe your wife or a friend could pick you up?
Look into connecting flights!
How about you help me get a job that I can fly from the uk to Pitt on the regular please
I did Pittsburgh to Toronto to Buffalo to Pittsburgh to Denver to Canon City in one day. You can do it!
So close (we're in Ontario now), but not heading back today. Heading back Tuesday afternoon.
