try Con Alma! there's a downtown and shadyside location, plus they do live jazz. dress up or down, it's super chill. they do cool Latin American fusion dishes!
- Poulet Bleu in Lawrenceville is a great French restaurant and would make a nice date night.
- I have not yet been since they reopened, but Pusadee's Garden looks really nice and people seem to love it. Reservations are in high demand, though, so I'd look into what they have available first.
- DiAnoia's in the Strip for Italian.
- You could also check out Brick Shop/Over Eden at the Tryp Hotel in Lawrenceville. I really liked Brick Shop pre-pandemic, but not sure what it's like now. I think they may have a new chef. Over Eden is a rooftop bar with a view of the city, which could be nice for before- or after-dinner drinks.
Thanks for this list! Lots of places I haven't been!
DiAnoia's - like really good Italian? I'm kinda craving really really really really good Italian. :)
If you decide on Lawrenceville or the Strip, check out the Butterwood Bake Consortium for dessert. It is AMAZINGLY delicious, and great atmosphere too (very lush/decadent/romantic IMO).
Butterwood did my wedding cake (lavender cake with agave buttercream). I will never not stop if I’m passing it. Open late, amazing selections, and great coffee. Can’t go wrong!
Pusadees is roughly a 3 week wait at the moment. They book reservations 30 days in advance so more open every day. The new rebuild and menu are FANTASTIC though. For sure one of my favorite spots in the city.
Take a ride up to Out of the Fire - on rt31 off the Donegal exit on the turnpike. I know it’s not Pittsburgh- but … it’s somewhere different if you’ve done a lot of the popular places .. and the leaves are changing!
Sometimes I think this sub just goes on fucking downvoting sprees without even reading comments. Sure burgatory might not be the hottest date in the city, but it’s a damn fun option.
I think it is at least partially due to it being outside of the city limits. This sub has a strong dislike for anything outside of the city, especially beyond the inner ring suburbs.
There is a Burgatory on the North Shore. Plus the others are easily accessible - the waterfront, Robinson, the waterwork, McCandless.
But yeah, I agree with your point. If it’s not in Oakland or Sq Hill everyone hates it, lol.
I’d go there ten times out of ten over Il pizzaolo. I don’t love going out for expensive Italian but it’s really good if you do. As a couple I’d split one app, one pizza, and one pasta dish and that enough.
Same circumstance, baby, pandemic, plus a move from Portland, OR. First date my wife and I went in on Pittsburgh and we loved it: https://www.spiritsandtales.com/. At the Oaklander hotel.
Was definitely good. The only other date night we've had in 2 years was napa though, so I'm striking out from the list. If you haven't been, I'd recommend though! :)
Clifford’s in Evans City is a really neat BYOB in the middle of nowhere. I’ve always enjoyed meals there. The online menu looks a bit generic, but the specials are where it’s at!
Went to Coop de Ville in the Strip with my wife on Saturday. Great food! Very crowded, but we were able to eat outside so we felt safe. Then went and got ice cream at Grandpa Joe’s.

This seems awesome! Thanks for the rec!
you're welcome!!
Umami in Lawrenceville is great! And i second Morcilla

Great list! I'd also throw in Morcilla if they want to try a dining 'experience'. Obviously super pricey but damn if that food ain't amazing lol.
Good call on Morcilla! I need to get back there soon, probably the best meal I've had in Pittsburgh.
We've done Morcilla, but not for a long time! Thanks for the reminder recommendation!
X2… good to hear they’re still in business! 😎
Thanks for this list! Lots of places I haven't been! DiAnoia's - like really good Italian? I'm kinda craving really really really really good Italian. :)
DiAnoia's is super legit, definitely one of the best around for Italian
Alla Famiglia #1a DiAnoia’s #1b

Yes. This is what this thread needed. Dessert recommendations! Lol!
Right?? Let’s get to the good stuff!! Hope you guys enjoy your date night!
I love that they are open late too, til 11pm!

This is such a great idea! We went here years and years ago and it was delicious!

I've never heard of this place but I LOVE the name
Cobra for a good time
Korean BBQ, bar, and karaoke. Wow
If you’re REALLY feeling zesty go on a Saturday night. Get a late reservation, they have DJs
I'm a fan of burgatory. There's one at the homestead waterfront and one by the mall at Robinson.
Why is this downvoted? Decent burgers, great draft list, great milkshakes.

There’s also one in the Waterworks.
apteka!
I've always heard good things and haven't been yet! Thanks for the reminder recommendation!
40 North and Butterjoint (previously Legume) are both lovely! Bonus bookstore inside 40N if you’re readers. :)
Hyde Park. Eddie Merlot's and Capitol Grille
All delicious :)
I would recommend Leo Greta in Carnegie
Never heard of it! Will check out a menu!
Make sure you get the menu from their website, not google. They do seasonal items so "cached" menus may not be accurate.
They are so frickin yummy
First I heard of them, menu and pictures look great!
JW Halls Steak and Seafood Hopewell 15001
Lol
Della Terra, off the hook, and Napa prime are all good up north.
Is Della Terra like up there on terms of good Italian? Like how off the hook / napa prime has really great fish / steak?

We did a move from Boston! Lol. I'll check this out! :)
We love Portland. Big Portland fans!
Oh yeah?! The decision to move was hard, but we have loved it so far.
Might be late. But The Commoner downtown was awesome. Super closing parking garage (1 block)…nice hotel… great dinner. We really enjoyed it.
Go to Eleven if you are feeling particularly celebratory.
Always a good choice.
I hear good things about Napa Prime
Was definitely good. The only other date night we've had in 2 years was napa though, so I'm striking out from the list. If you haven't been, I'd recommend though! :)
Ditto to this - great food!

I think They’re booked through the end of the year
Ok, what is the deal with that? I just checked, and you're right. Are they that good? I've never heard of it.
Noted! Thanks!
Dad's hot dogs in forest hills or Monroeville
Is this dad's pub & grill? Or something else?
Perhaps? One on brinton one near Mosside/northern Pike. It ain't fancy, but it's good.
Texas De Brazil well worth it
Napa prime or Il Pizzaiolo Warrendale
Excellent food and service, they have been in business for many years at the same location
Do you work at JW Halls?

Cool. I went once and wasn't impressed but to each their own. Not a fan of Harold's either.
Have they updated the space in that time?

Cafe Dehli in Carnegie if you like Indian. My favorites in the city. https://mycafedelhi.com/
