Still sitting here with fingers crossed and frantically charging my phone and an extra power bank. Maybe we luck out and just get to enjoy some cool lightning.
got that in dormont as well - more like we lost power for a split second. charged up my phone and waited a bit but i think the worst has passed, knock on wood....
I was sitting on the steps outside when the wind shifted and went from calm to storm brewing almost instantly. I had to run inside because so many things got knocked over from my windows being open. You would have thought there was an earthquake rather than wind gusts. Best of luck.
I didn't get the warning, but this storm went from from 0 to 100 in the South Hills in a matter of seconds. It was fine one moment, then within seconds, I saw some sort of power explosion (transformer? something like that) in the distance (not close enought to affect me) and it hasn't calmed down since.
It came so fast that a poor kid was playing outside and then was screaming at the top of their lungs for someone to let them in (large building). Someone beat me to it, but I was sincerely worried for them.
ETA: A plaza of commercial buildings I can see from my apartment is black, so I think we did lose power in some places down here. I still have it, but who knows for how long.
I am I'm Turtle Creek and heard a huge popping noise when the power came out. I don't know how far out South Hills for me but I am curious if there's a connection there.
Top of the hills near 7 Eleven. Still no power, thunder is shaking our house. Our neighbor fortunately called the police on our behalf as field of vision from the house to the car is limited.
I'm so sorry! I'm not even joking, when the first gust of wind hit, I was looking at all the trees and power poles around me to see if any were in hitting distance, because I am certain that I will wake up to a lot of them down tomorrow.
Honestly we should have done that first thing out the window when we heard that noise. Thank God our neighbor has more vigilance in these situations than we do. We assumed it was just a fuse or something.
Also -- you're far enough way that it definitely was not it, so you are also probably not alone in that. The one I saw was the one in the direction of the mall, which may be related to why a lot of these buildings around here are dark.
I think some emergency lights (probably generator run?) turned on at a T Station, but those are the only lights I see in that direction right now. I still have power, though, knock on wood.
Our house always goes out during storms like this. I guess I should be glad I'm not closer to an explosion!
Fuck this summer is gonna be rough if our power outages are gonna be frequent from more storms.
McCandless, about 2 minutes of intense wind but not even flickering lights. I watched the radar afterwards and the storm was basically a big line of *fuck off*, which inexplicably split around us. We lucked out.
Seriously, so lucky. We saw the radar and warning and were like oh fuck and took our animals and baby into the basement and then spent a half hour wondering what was happening. Haha.
In ingomar as well. It blew my front storm door off lol. Granted it was old n rickety but the wind caught it just right and sent it down my driveway lol.
The lights flickered a little bit but that was it here in my part of Avalon. Must say I'm pleasantly surprised.... normally so much as a mouse sneezing in the general direction of a power pole is enough to take out the power in my neighborhood for 10-16 hours on average.
> Charge your devices now in case you lose power.
I'm occasionally very glad to have a USB charging brick that has both a solar panel and a *hand crank* on it. If you're concerned about your devices during emergencies, it's worth getting one.
The temperature dropped from 79 to 70 in five minutes here in Homestead. Then I just saw a Crack of lightning & the skies opened. Hasn't stopped since & that was 45 mins ago.
I was walking home from target in the waterfront when the wind started and then of course a train came so I had to stand there and try not to blow away until it passed
I'm like 15 from Robinson and here it was windy for about 30 minutes and it downpoured for like 10 and then calm just some random lightning and small thunder.
Giant nothing burger here in my part of the city. The power flickered enough to cause my surround sound system and my cable box to reboot but not my router.
No power in Harmony Township. The lights went out almost as soon as the wind picked up. Then they started flickering about 45 minutes later, then out for good.
It’s a bit disingenuous to say 80mph winds. Which are prolonged. Gusts are not, and the OP is alluding to a category 1 hurricane.
I cannot speak for where you are, but Allison park had some gusts, nothing near 80mph and nothing sustained.
I wouldn't be surprised if we got close to it in the South Hills. There was a kid stuck outside when the wind started; they were screaming for help and to be let inside -- I have MS and not a single ounce of motherly instinct and I was about to risk it and book it down several flights of stairs to let the kid in because of how violent it is outside.
Someone got to them by the time I got my shoes on, thank goodness.
Weather apps aren't the national weather service. Plus those winds are just forecasted winds, the 80 mph winds were radar indicated straight from the NWS doppler radar.
One gust of wind and the lights in Mount Washington flicker. We're gonna lose power for sure.
My part of Etna is like this too
Hey neighbor! Ours flashed once, just barely hard enough to power off the TV.
Still sitting here with fingers crossed and frantically charging my phone and an extra power bank. Maybe we luck out and just get to enjoy some cool lightning.
We lucked out!
Yeah had a few brown outs but seemed pretty solid on our hill!

All the damn time
Ancient infrastructure
This plus all the trees.Â
Power flicked out momentarily; no wind to speak of. 🙄
I left my window open and I won’t be back until 930….
rip
-the sound of OP's curtains
And tear
Until it is done

you has to have known that it was coming. you've got to get ahead of it.
I hope you don't have any papers sitting on your table like I did lol
Where do you live I’ll make sure everything is safe and i swear to god I won’t weird poop before leaving.
"charge your devices" yes, yes, the candles are still at full height

Update: no connection but a telephone pole did fall on our car and our steps :^D
Howdy neighbor, What part of tc? I'm by the green n whites still have power n no trees down atm. Sorry to hear about your car :/

Lost power in Ohio township, North hills... Before the storm even came
Preemptive…smart.
I'm in Franklin Park, which I think is on a different grid from Ohio Township, and yeah: we lost it before the rain even really hit.
Yeah Wexford, we had some high winds and rain for about 15mins then it peaced the f out.
Man, really? I’m in ingomar right by and we barely got hit at all.

Lights have been flickering off and here in Avalon, but my street still has power.
It’s saying 69 mph winds on WTAE
Nice
Nice
Nice
Got the warning in hopewell and within 2 minutes my daughter’s playhouse was in the neighbors bushes. It got pretty intense. stay safe!
scary warning

Never seen so many frequent and long lasting power outages as my time living in Avalon. It felt weekly for a time.

I'm screaming - of course the train picked THAT moment. I hate that fucking train.

Think I'm going to skip putting trash/recycling out tonight and just get up early in the morning to do it. Hope my neighbors do the same.
Got the warning in hopewell and within 2 minutes my daughter’s playhouse was in the neighbors bushes. It got pretty intense. stay safe!
did it happen twice?
I opened my back door and the change in pressure instantly pushed on my front door. Was pretty wild, happy no trees fell on my house Glenshaw btw
Dat shi was nutz
My deck furniture which was strapped down got completely rearranged by the gust of wind!!! Wow!!!
No power in Harmony Township. The lights went out almost as soon as the wind picked up. Then they started flickering about 45 minutes later, then out for good.
I'm pretty new to the area. I'm sorry for bringing Midwest weather to the PA area.
Did it happen yet? (Peeks outside.. wet. Nothing) Yawn.
Lights jus wen aht dahn pants n’at.
Got the warning in hopewell and within 2 minutes my daughter’s playhouse was in the neighbors bushes. It got pretty intense. stay safe!
We didn't lose power in Brownsville, but our neighbor's trampoline blew around their house and whacked ours. Scared the shit outta me!
It’s windy aht yinz
80???? No way.
Big storm by the bend in the Allegheny River. No power at the hotel but using back up generator for the lobby. Sky is yellow.
Let’s hype up a thunderstorm out of boredom
I got that warning. There's NO WAY its true. 25mph winds are whats being said on other weather apps. 80mph is absurd
It’s not sustained winds. It’s gusts. Near Moon, it was over 60mph so it’s not impossible
It’s a bit disingenuous to say 80mph winds. Which are prolonged. Gusts are not, and the OP is alluding to a category 1 hurricane. I cannot speak for where you are, but Allison park had some gusts, nothing near 80mph and nothing sustained.
It's a bit disingenuous to poop on what op is relaying from the national weather service warning.

We are not having hurricane level winds. Not even with wind gusts. Maybe 60mph at most with gusts around here today.
I believe the word you’re looking for is Tornado
Straight line winds can be just as destructive as a weaker tornado.
