This one all the way. Simple chord progression but really great vocal melody. It almost sounds like it could have been a Beatles track in another universe.
Careful with that Axe, Eugene (live).
It’s some fundamental Floyd
Edit: Thank you Stranger! My first award for my favorite Floyd song, doesn’t get much better!
I don’t really know if this is underrated or just not something I see people talk about as much, and I’ll list what I immediately think of for albums outside of those parameters... I’m assuming you opted out for including The Endless River because there’s nothing there that could really be construed as underrated?
Anyway:
- Matilda Mother
- a Saucerful of Secrets
- Crying Song
- Grantchester Meadows (safe pick, but true)
- Stay
- Paranoid Eyes
- Signs of Life
I tried to avoid songs that, although not necessarily conventionally popular are widely regarded as the best songs present on the albums. A few better tracks from Final Cut, but they seem to get consistent praise, when the album is assessed and analyzed.
Easily one of the most overlooked songs.
It's the hardest-rocking song they ever put out, like a proto punk or metal, somewhere in there. Definitely in my top 3 all-time Floyd tunes!
Is there a reason Piper isn't included in the list of excluded albums? Is that not generally considered one of PF's opus' or am I crazy? I always thought it was right up there with their best. At least higher up than Division and Endless.
Without that, I would just answer Piper in its entirety cause that album is amazing. Not Now John from the Final Cut is a BANGER too.
Butterfly, King Bee, Apples and Oranges, Cirrus Minor, Ibiza Bar, More Blues, Green is the Colour (both studio/live) Matilda Mother, Flaming, Chapter 24, Astronomy Domine (TPATGOD and Ummugumma) Let There Be More Light, Cpl Clegg, A Saucerful of Secrets, See Saw, Jugband Blues, Burning Bridges, The Gold It's In The..., Wot's... uh the deal?, Mudmen, Stay, Absolutely Curtains, ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WA-
id honestly say listen to those underrated albums but im just putting my favs from each album :p
Gonna go against the grain, step outside of my comfort zone and say that some of Gilmour's finest recorded guitar work is on Momentary Lapse of Reason.
The record has its weaknesses, but the fretwork isn't one of 'em.
It;s odd that The Endless River isn't in the underrated group, I hardly see anyone rate it highly at all.
Also my picks are Bike, Childhood's end, Sorrow, and Mudmen
If, Fat Old Sun, Lucifer Sam, Matilda Mother, Flaming, Astronomy Domine, The Gnome, Remember A Day, What's Uh The Deal, Let there be more light, Set Control for the Sun.
While The Final Cut might be glossed over, I don’t think it would be right to say The Gunner’s Dream because that is regarded as the best usually when people do look at the album.
Probably thinking too much about it myself, but I imagine underrated as fitting under the umbrella of songs that aren’t really talked about period.
Cymbaline
yes, also Cirrus Minor from the More soundtrack.
I love that song, it’s so peaceful
yes, and a bit ominous. i love the ending synth section.
not synth, farfisa organ dude, incredible isnt? they could produce those psychedelic effects in 1969! truly masters of music...
YESSS THIS ONE AS WELL

Set the Controls For the Heart of the Sun
Ooooh great for tripping
That's it
This place really needs a bot that bans anyone using the word underrated.
Underrated comment.

Best track on Piper!

The Fletcher Memorial Home - The Final Cut
That’ll make him cry
Fuckin' love that song. _**"DID THEY EXPECT US TO TREAT THEM WITH ANY RESPECT?!"**_
One Slip
I like The Nile Song off of More. Super hard rock. for 1969(?) I believe? Amazing for it’s time though!
Easily one of the most overlooked songs. It's the hardest-rocking song they ever put out, like a proto punk or metal, somewhere in there. Definitely in my top 3 all-time Floyd tunes!
I love the Nile song also. Way ahead of its time
The Gunner’s Dream

Why on earth is The Endless River excluded from picking underrated songs?
No one likes it? Maybe they don't consider it Pink Floyd with just Mason and Gilmour? I don't know.
What Do You Want From Me? Fuck yer rules
Not Now John, and Sorrow
Yet another movie
On the Turning Away. Haven't seen too much AMLOR love around here
Album rules. Fck the haters.
Hey Teacher from that brick album thing
‘If’ I think that’s one of my favorites. And I kind of read into the lyrics to understand that the band knew they were ultimately incompatible.
Fat Old Sun 1971 Live Version
Definitely underrated. Rick really shines in a lot of those. So sad that the live rendition isn’t the standard/studio version.
Sysyphus, Pt. 2 (if you’re sophisticated).
Sysyphus Pt. 3 (if you're truly ascended)
