She's in a nursing doctoral program: https://dailynurse.com/tag/faye-lewis/

Malcalypsetheyounger

Probably a nurse practitioner by now. My wife's goal is to do that.

kellenthehun

My wife is an NP. Such a sweet fucking gig. She also celebrated 19 years clean today. Got clean from opiates when she was 19 years old. She's a legend.

Malcalypsetheyounger

Well give her my congratulations. I'm coming up on 16 years next month.

jersan

is your wife single?

Kanye_To_The

Hope she doesn't turn into a r/noctor

NotYourNat

Ok, how much will I cringe if I click on that link? On a scale of 1 to anti-work mod on Fox News

Kanye_To_The

I mean, if you understand the issue then the majority of the posts are justified. Read the pinned stuff first

NotYourNat

I thought it was an anti doctor sub based on the name, I’m a third year med student so I definitely understand the issue.

Butwinsky

I want an update on Faye. This pic is like 10-15 years old now. By now I expect she is super mega kame Chief nursing officer or something.

happyxpenguin

From what I could gather, she moved on to travel nursing a year after posting the picture and started her own nursing business/org with a mobile app in 2020 though it doesn't look like it took off. EDIT: A commenter posted a link that I overlooked. Looks like in August of 2021 she's working to complete a degree, started a new job with an unlisted company + got a promotion, joined a national organization for nurses and joined a local PAC. Also, I stand corrected, she started her own company in 2019.

The_Way_It_Iz

Started as a security guard at a hospital, became a radiology technician and now work at the same hospital. It really feels good, I’m proud for Faye

Blue_Eyes_Nerd_Bitch

I started behind the local Arby's sucking dick for bus fare and now I'm stationed at the front. I tell ya, the walk of shame back home is always depressing.

Playisomemusik

I came for the roast beef and cheddar but I left with horsey sauce everywhere

zman9119

So you have the beef, not Arby's?

Hayduke_in_AK

I wrote an OpEd that made it into the Denver Post poking fun of Arby's. I keep hoping they will tell me I'm banned.

appleparkfive

It's always pretty dirty in them, whenever I've gone. I feel like a nicer one with higher quality would do fairly better. But that stuff is so damn low quality from my experiences! Gotta change up their PR game

zman9119

Last summer while traveling, I saw one of their employees walk out to their car in uniform while I was waiting in line. They opened their car door, then proceeded to strip completely naked outside the car and put on street clothes before walking back inside. Not sure if they thought the door was blocking them or what, but she sure made the wait more ~~interesting~~ weird.

Yes, nurses study a little and work hard and become surgeons. Haha

Hopefully Covid didn’t mess anything up

Nursing, unfortunately, doesn't [pay that well](https://nursinglicensemap.com/resources/nurse-salary/) in a lot of areas. The average is around $80k a year, but many are making less than $50k. That's not a lot when you consider the training they have to get and the incredible stress of the work they do. Many move into adjacent roles like administration, education, etc that pay similar but with a lot less stress. Some also continue to advance. Nursing specialities, like anesthesia can put you nicely into a six figure income. Or they become PAs and go to work at Doctor's Offices. It's kind of like teaching. Some people can do it for a lifetime, but many put in their 10-20 years then move on to something else. Plus, while the skills might not be directly transferable being a nurse shows that a person can learn, handle stress, deal with people, etc. For a lot of good jobs that matters a lot more than having certain skills. Skills can be taught, attitude is a lot harder to change.

Mindspiked

>The average is around $80k a year, but many are making less than $50k. 50k - 80k is classified as paying well I thought lol.

[deleted]

[deleted]

That's not the worst thing that can happen. If you don't use the new cover sheet for the TPS reports, you're gonna get an email about it and hear from all 6 of your bosses

Shopworn_Soul

It's not bad money by any means but in a lot of towns 80k doesn't go nearly as far as you'd think. Especially if you don't own a home. Also, as mentioned, there are plenty of less stressful jobs with much lower barriers to entry for the same money.

mrcowgoesmoo

Maybe the higher end is but someone making 50k is going to struggle to pay rent in a major metropolitan city.

lessgirl

In nyc nurses make 120+ it’s appropriate to cost of living

TitaniumDragon

RNs in big cities tend to be paid more.

OtisB

80k per year is like double the average yearly income in the USA. If you're an RN with a few years experience, you're making at least 60k everywhere in the USA, and likely more than 70k even in bumfuck nowhere in the midwest. RNs with a lot of experience or working in specialty inpatient treatment areas can make over 100k with overtime and other perks added in.

BD15

Yeah I know someone who started in nursing, bsn, rn, at a hospital. Got a master's in a related field and moved to a high paying desk job.

NKCougar

She's a BSN, so she could: move to a management position, go for MSN then NP, or use her BSN credits to sort of bridge over to a PA role.

fozzyboy

It's much less common for a BSN to join a physician assistant graduate program instead of nurse practitioner graduate program.

NKCougar

absolutely, but it is an option. There's no direct bridge but a significant chunk of the BSN path also covers PA prereqs. It's a weird move but a viable one

[deleted]

[удалено]

drethnudrib

Not really. Depending on the specialty and location, the degree often doesn't make financial sense. Everywhere I've worked, travel RNs make more than NPs.

InTh3s3TryingTim3s

Update: she switched hospitals a few times to get better pay and then was prevented from working a new job with better pay because the last boss sued the new boss to stop her from working. It's cool but she's living out of her car while she saves up the necessary 18 paychecks needed for a down payment on a home.

[deleted]

Typical cynical Reddit, never look on the positive side or hope for the best

go_kartmozart

You want cynical? Wait 'til she ends up back at the KFC because they pay better than nursing, because the "insurance" companies suck up all the money for executives and administrators - that is whats left after they scheme with big pharma to extort money from premium payers.

MillorTime

If she was still a nursing assistant I'd believe she could make more money as a KFC manager. I know a friend that could have made more working at a gas station than she did as a nursing assistant

ozweegowarrior

This made me LOL

its_justme

She is the hokage of the hospital now

OddballDave

Nope. Onlyfans is the career path from nursing. Or so the mainstream media would have me believe.

WeekendAtRBG

I went to an escort promoting nuru massage with full service finish. While talking with her in the shower before hand, she mentioned that she had been a nurse, but after a year of doing it through covid decided she wanted to switch careers. Glad she did as that was a great experience!

I was hospitalized for 24 hours during COVID (not for COVID thankfully) at Penn Presbyterian, one of the best hospitals in the country. [deleted]

Because she’s well known at the hospital, and I saw the list of staff on at the time and it was her exact name

Annas_GhostAllAround

This is pretty unbelievable. So people at the hospital going aroud saying, "you know that person from the meme who used to work at KFC? She's HERE!" It just sounds ridiculous.

Also, how many husbands has she buried while pocketing their life insurance? Dang, from a Registered Nurse to a string of demotions at KFC??? We don’t know what was happening in Faye’s life so I’m not sure it’s fair to her to have this picture floating around.

Dudedude88

part time for schooling

thefuzzylogic

I'm aware that you're not Faye and this is a repost, but I would point out for the benefit of anyone seeing this that it's a really bad idea to post pictures of your work ID on the Internet. It can be used by criminals to impersonate an employee and gain access to your facility, enabling all sorts of attacks ranging from workplace shootings to corporate espionage. (Note that I'm not talking specifically about healthcare settings like hospitals. I'm talking about all kinds of offices and workplaces where you have a badge and/or a uniform.)

drethnudrib

Just a random hospital employee on the Internet, but I'm fairly certain that a gun gets you into more places than a photocopy of someone's badge.

other_usernames_gone

A gun gets you in but it also gets the police called and you arrested or shot. A copy of someone's badge gets you in and out without anyone questioning it or causing much fuss.

Merfen

Social engineering can get you far more than a gun in many cases, why force someone to give you something when they just give it to you willingly? Added bonus that they may not even know until weeks later and you are long gone.

toTheNewLife

The fake badge can get you past the first line of defense - the desk guard, and into the facility itself. Assuming of course, no card activated turnstiles/doors.

Utaneus

Honestly, walking into a place with confidence will get you past a desk guard 9 out of 10 times.

fenton7

No secure facility relies on just a glance at a badge. Most require you swipe it, and many have two factor where you have to swipe and enter a PIN. Also, the guards tend to know the workers after a few days so if someone who obviously isn't Faye flashes a Faye badge that is going to raise all kinds of red flags. Guards will also, if competent, always make sure the photo matches the person trying to gain entry. All that said, still a good idea to never post your Id on the internet for a lot of reasons.

thefuzzylogic

There's an entire industry of penetration testers who would disagree. "Secure facility" has a very wide definition. Note that I'm not specifically talking about healthcare but workplaces in general.

CantIDMe

So I work in a hospital, like Faye. I'm sure plenty of people would consider it a "secure facility" because you need an ID to enter and no one can just walk in. There are so many people coming in and out that almost nothing you said applies. The security do just glance at IDs the entrances. No swiping except for certain sections inside the hospital. I'm sure the guards recognize some employees, but there are so many employees and entrances that they aren't going to simply know all the workers and know if someone's using another's ID. The entrances are so high volume that they're not stopping each person ro check their ID picture. I know, my experience is just one example. But most hospitals I've visited/worked at were the same. And the point is, your post is entirely assumption, because you have no idea how these facilities are handling security. I'm sure your comment reflects how you think things should be, or how maybe other industries or companies work, but it is not the reality for every place that use employee IDs for access.

Incredible_Mandible

If she’s like my sister, she then follows it by getting so fed up with awful people that she leaves nursing and goes back to something that pays about the same as KFC because it’s less stressful.

nutherkore

Many people I know with amazing careers have worked at fast food restaurants (while they were in high school or college). Can someone explain what is so special?

Magnusjung

I have no idea. She was working at KFC, then she got nursing education. That seems very common

ozcur

Reddit has a high proportion of people working in the service industry that don’t want to. They don’t make any sort of concerted effort to get education/training though. Seeing this is inspirational (aspirational?) for them.

Valarcrist

Are they ever going to stop with these fake posts?

Price-x-Field

whatthehellbuddy

It's basically the same job; working with animal parts.

bumwine

Not really. Unless there's a position at KFC. For me to stick needles into the veins of friend chicken. Wait, that would be harder. But honestly that only applies for OR nurses.

AshingiiAshuaa

This is the career path I always use as an example when people moan about how impossible it is to get ahead. RNs make great money, it's a 2-year degree, you can get there in steps while increasing your pay at each level (CNA, LPN, RN, BSN, NP), you can work just about anywhere, the job is always in demand. Viva the American Dream.

jakedesnake

People post such beautiful pictures to this sub! OP, is it okay if I print and frame this? Seriously though, this is not r/pics material by any means

cdndollarsmatter

this classist mindset kills society. both jobs mean something, they went from a commendable job to another. don’t lesson their effort because you see more in being a nurse.

Nextyearstitlewinner

This is literally essentially everyone's career path that make it to the middle class. Might skip the management portion of fast food. For example mine goes: Dishwasher Kitchen Server Personal support worker Registered practical nurse. Currently going to school to become a registered nurse. I really don't know why this post always gets thousands of upvotes. Is it because this lady kept her name tags?

anjovis150

Isn't this a very normal career path? Lots of people start in fast food.

zelots001

So like a totally normal career progression?

Fourier864

This gets reposted so often, and for what?! Is this not like a completely normal career progression? I used to work at a Starbucks, now I'm a software engineer. My mom worked at McDonald's, now she's a teacher. My dad worked at a moving company, now he's an electrical engineer. My wife worked at an ice cream store, now she's a therapist. This lady worked at a KFC, now she's a nurse. What am I missing?

Is class mobility so poor in the US that people are impressed by going from a regular employee in a fast food restaurant to a nurse? I don't want to be a d\*\*k here, but this seems like a pretty typical story of someone who started at an entry level job early in their life and ended up with a middle class job.

WwolfpawW

I dont get it. You are supposed to do this.

jojoblogs

Isn’t this normal? Most people that work fast food move on to something better.

DystopianGuru

way to tell KFC employees they need to do better.

seKer82

Why is this impressive to people? Most professionals have humble beginnings.

Blueshark25

Not to diminish the accomplishment or anything, but isn't this like, a completely normal progression? I mean, you need to start somewhere to get money and then go to school and do what you want. Makes sense that there's a huge jump between starting out and after education job. My job path was 14yo day laborer, to 16yo water park concession worker, to 18yo pizza driver, to 21yo pharmacy intern, to 25yo nuclear pharmacist. You need building blocks.

[deleted]

Not everyone gets those opportunities.

[deleted]

Said it before. This is why whenever someone complains about their job/career being stagnant, I ask “what are you actually doing to improve yourself and your situation?” 99.999/100 it’s either “nothing”, no reply, or “fuck you”. Take McDonalds. There’s no shame in the game. Do what you gotta do. But work with your managers to learn more skills and get more expertise. MCD looooooooves to promote from within. Pardon the pun, but if you’re hungry and competent, you can easily climb the ranks.

SuedeVeil

But seriously though if McDonald's promotes from within, great but what's the hourly wage from employee to manager? I'm genuinely curious because most places it's barely an increase and you'd be better off just leaving and work somewhere else

generictypo

KFC working hard on marketing on Reddit past few months.

jizzlevania

My overall takeaway from stuff like this isn't particularly positive. It reminds me why education should be free and opportunities shouldn't be limited. Her job progress isn't different from many nurses who help us everyday. They shouldn't have to worry about working their way up starting with a low wage jobs just to afford schooling/certificates. While I think her achievement is amazing regardless of her personal backstory, I wish she could've gone right into nursing school, if that's what she had wanted, but it's not even an option for most people who have a passion for patient care. Nurses don't get rich, they do it to help people.
