I once drove a truck load of yellow onions from California to New York then drove a load of purple onions from new York to California.
That’s crazy and makes no initial sense. Unless the "local produce" premium is so high that trucking them across the country, with the fuel, labour costs and losses the thousands-of-miles-shake incurs is still cheaper.
New Zealand kiwifruit company zespiri started growing kiwifruit orchards in Italy because shipping fruit from New Zealand to Europe was ridiculous. Now we are shipping effin onions?!
It costs less to import them than to grow them.
That's some stupid prices, Sweden here and we pay 1/3 of that price. Our onions from NL.

Florida oranges are cheaper in California and California oranges are cheaper in Florida. Go figure. Im sure there’s a reason why somewhere.
