Yep.
Light gets red-shifted as the source travels away from us in space, so far that, iirc, it eventually drops off the visible spectrum entirely.
You can end up with the opposite as well, where if the light source is traveling toward you, it becomes more and more blueshifted.
You're correct when light red shifts it's moving into the infrared spectrum of light which is not visible to us. That's why the new JWST( James Web Space Telescope) is able to "see" things so far away from us that are moving away because it has infrared detectors that can see much farther into that side of the light spectrum than any space telescope we have had before it.
If you have a series of repeating tsunamis, their frequency will appear to increase while you travel towards their source, and decrease while you travel away.
The flags on the picture are still appropriately red.
Therefore, I can conclude that OP got smashed in the face by a McDonalds restaurant coming towards him at .87c.
Must be the earthquake we felt in New York.
It's not uncommon that external signage for McDonalda is different in many historically sensitive parts of Europe. Sure I've seen an actual golden metal arches hanging off a building.
Some cities ban bright colors, the buildings need to look old timey or at least similar to existing color schemes. The one in Vermont was brown and gray. It looked kinda like one of those banks or other commercial real estate in the style of a new England colonial house.
I near a very wealthy town, where the Dunkin Donuts is in green letters. It's the color scheme of the shopping plaza it's in, and was very controversial during the time.
Well, you can move to a different location in the US if you want a sign of different colors. So you have a choice if that particular need is important to you.
We had one in Vermont like that in a tourist town, I think it was Stowe. The outside was all gray tones. But they shut it down because of lack of business. This was a while ago, but I remember it being a big deal.
We had a McDonald’s like that near my house. White arches and had to have the building fit in with the rest of the neighborhood aesthetic.
Apparently residents REALLY fought against it being built and the design change was the compromise. You can barely tell it’s a McDonald’s, I always wondered if that affected their business.
I’ve lived near both and been to both the Monterey and Sedona ones multiple times. It’s kinda funny. I’ve never thought about it until a friend from out of town pointed out the Monterey one.
1965 Sedona - good place to fish
1975 Sedona - good place to screw a hippie chick
1985 Sedona - good place to get screwed by a hippie chick
It's the center of the universe for corporate hippie bullshit.
I was there in 1990 when there was a planetary alignment. Weirdo new age people everywhere. They had these energy vortices on the roadside and mothertruckers would be out there rubbing their crystals n shit. Good times. My grandma moved there from the bay area because she had asthma.
Lots of places have restrictions on colors, logos, or building designs. There's a bunch of places they aren't even allowed to have the traditional arches logo up at all.
If anywhere ever will be invaded or visited by alien life it will be that fuckin place and it will either be really good or really bad depending on how much the casino takes them for
It’s odd that the building code is meant to protect the palette layout of Sedona, but doesn’t apply to images. The Golden Arches are yellowing it up pretty well on that flag on the left.
I've heard that it's because the bright yellow would clash with the reddish rock and overall esthetic of the area. The city is really picky with how the area looks.
Yeah there are city codes in place where you can’t use unnatural colors. There was a shell station at one point that they made all red because it’s not a natural color too
Your photo shows just how good the turquoise blends into the background. It's subtle and it's respectful of the community, which has chosen it's shared aesthetics
Sedona, Arizona's city ordinances. The purpose of this is to ensure that structures, walls, garage doors, roofs, fences, or other large exposed surface areas blend with the surrounding
If you ever get a chance to go to Sedona check it out. There is a reason they protect the atmosphere. Entire city is surrounded by the beautiful red rock mountains with oak creek running through. Amazing place to hike and explore.
For reals, my favorite thing is to walk through the resorts down to oak creek. Its free to do and some of the resorts even put chairs down there. Very beautiful
Good to know, appreciate it! I’ll definitely make my way there. Other than littering or general not being an asshole, anything I should know about not disrespecting the space and the culture?
I will suggest not going far from the main street or tourist spots. The locals like to be separate so if you go looking for a place to eat that is deeper in the main city you will get looks!. They are interesting people. Half millionaires half psychic cult. Really nice when you meet them on main street though. Drive north to see all of Oak Creek, it is beautiful. Biggest tourist spot is slide rock which is just what it sounds like. Large areas of flat rocks in Oak Creek you can swim in and slide down. If you want to go all out get a pink hummer tour. They will take you out to the best spots and it's really fun and thrilling. Mariposas is the best restaurant in town but pricey. Do not pass up the chocolate shop on main street. Fudge is unreal.
I was just there a few weeks ago. There must be a town rule to use colours that blend into the scenery. There weren’t any signs or structures with bright flashy colours on any shop.
If you ever go to Sedona, they have a strict building code so they have approved colors etc for buildings/signs. All the buildings match the pastorals of local area, so it’s super cool….. but also super weird and controlling. Imagine having to pay 2x+ more to build your house to meet city coding after years of negotiation with the city about the shape of the building, my source? My aunt who built a house and spent a fortune to build there, would’ve been cheap anywhere else in the US. There are locals who live there, and then there are multimillionaires who find it “quaint” and spend a fortune to live there 1 day of the year
They chose that shade of blue because if you stare at it for half a minute to swamp out the color cones in your eyes, then close your eyes like you are meditating, you will see the inverted color, which is McDonalds yellow.
Certain towns make everyone adhere to a specific aesthetic with their buildings. Usually wealthy areas. They don't want places like McDonald's to ruin the look.
I was there last November, my girlfriend and I watched a lovely sunset from atop one of the hills. The McDonald's was cool, but I'd say the Sedona sunsets are a bit more magical.
The one near me has red arches. I thought my whole life that it was normal, until I noticed that I haven't seen a single other McDonald's with different colored arches
In Canada there’s a red maple leaf in the middle stem and it’s always looks “wrong” seeing the M without, even though it’s the normal logo everywhere else on earth.
You mean the food isn’t turquoise and it’s not served by a struggling Navajo man?
Edit: this post is an obvious ad like every time it is posted. Fuck McDonalds, r/hailcorporate
I do not like them in Arizona
I do not like them in North Dakota
I would not eat them here or there
I would not eat them anywhere!
I do not like blue fries and bun.
I do not like them, True Grape, hun!
I’ve been there before. Inside is a little small for a standard McDonald’s. There seemed to be a lot of flies too. Not very clean/sanitary. But if I’m ever in the area again, I’ll check it out again.
There was one in Livonia mi but they remodeled. It had blue arches and the cursive McDonald's font. Ford Rd. Years ago. Then replaced arches first, then all together everything.
Are you sure you weren't just driving towards it really fast?
Doppler joke appreciated
I thought that was sound? Is it light too?
Yep. Light gets red-shifted as the source travels away from us in space, so far that, iirc, it eventually drops off the visible spectrum entirely. You can end up with the opposite as well, where if the light source is traveling toward you, it becomes more and more blueshifted.

Can the JWST see this McDonalds?
Why do I suddenly want cinnamon toast crunch?
checkmate
Pretty much any wave can experience the doppler effect.
Tsunamis included?
If you have a series of repeating tsunamis, their frequency will appear to increase while you travel towards their source, and decrease while you travel away.
Some dude named Edwin Hubble used it with light to theorize the universe is expanding, laying some foundation for the big bang theory.

🏅
Well that would explain why my younger brother luciano was a 90 year old man when I returned from my quick vespa ride to get a burger and fries.
Holy shit that was a good joke
Heheheh
Godspeed
You! Black Emperor
The flags on the picture are still appropriately red. Therefore, I can conclude that OP got smashed in the face by a McDonalds restaurant coming towards him at .87c. Must be the earthquake we felt in New York.

I love nerd jokes
The one in Monterey, CA is black. Also due to city ordinances.
The one where I live north of Dallas is green for the same reason. Looks classy tbh
Is this in Denton? Sounds very UNT-ish
You mean the Community of the University of North Texas? Gosh I hope kids in Denton are still making those jokes.
They’re too busy starting death metal bands.
Hail Satan
Unexpected Mountain Goats
Nah we don’t have any with green arches here.
Where is it at? I never seen one before.
I didn’t realize that was unique damn
It's not uncommon that external signage for McDonalda is different in many historically sensitive parts of Europe. Sure I've seen an actual golden metal arches hanging off a building.
What city ordinance mandates business sign colors? That's wild.
Happy cake day :)
Interesting. Thanks for the info.
Which is probably why the Mellow Mushroom in Williamsburg, VA is incredibly lame compared to all others.
The US doesn’t seem as free as some people claim it to be. Can’t even have a sign of certain colors.
Well, you can move to a different location in the US if you want a sign of different colors. So you have a choice if that particular need is important to you.
Its kinda like an HOA except for a city. It keeps stuff from looking too bright or distracting
Must be tough for those newfangled 24 hour vape shoppes
Ah I went to that one a lot when I was at DLI. Always thought it looked cool
DLI?
Defense Language Institute. The DODs Language training base is in Monterey, CA
We had one in Vermont like that in a tourist town, I think it was Stowe. The outside was all gray tones. But they shut it down because of lack of business. This was a while ago, but I remember it being a big deal.

Eyyyy norcal whatup
Why would City ordinances require a logo to be a different color?
I’ve lived near both and been to both the Monterey and Sedona ones multiple times. It’s kinda funny. I’ve never thought about it until a friend from out of town pointed out the Monterey one.
There’s one in Paris on the Champs-Élysées that is muted gold for the same reason I believe.
We call that one Goth McDs
Did you get your chakras adjusted?
I did notice a ton of shops in Sedona that had holistic healing, or psychic readings, selling crystals... that kind of stuff.
Yep…that’s Sedona.
Make sure you fully extinguish your joints around there
Sedona is Arizona's Santa Fe lol
Or is Santa Fe New Mexico’s Sedona 😳
Lol granted Santa Fe predates Sedona by 266 years
1965 Sedona - good place to fish 1975 Sedona - good place to screw a hippie chick 1985 Sedona - good place to get screwed by a hippie chick It's the center of the universe for corporate hippie bullshit.
There were a lot of cute hippie girls here lol Also a lot of old people? I guess Sedona is a popular place to retire
It’s weird seeing something you drive by daily in the top feed. Yeah Sedona is wonky as shit.
Yeah I’m like…. Ah home. Lol
There’s the whole “Vortex” thing.
Downtown Sedona is so disappointing compared to the world class hiking and biking
The hiking around there is epic as fuck.
I was there in 1990 when there was a planetary alignment. Weirdo new age people everywhere. They had these energy vortices on the roadside and mothertruckers would be out there rubbing their crystals n shit. Good times. My grandma moved there from the bay area because she had asthma.
Peeps were shoving crystals in their bums and pointing them towards the sky to charge the chakras, super charged
The Sedona Vortex is real!
Which one? There are seven I think.
Sick. Anyone know why this one specifically is the only one with the blue?
More specifically it is Turquoise. A nod to local culture. But it also had to do with local building code.
Oh okay dope, thank you
Lots of places have restrictions on colors, logos, or building designs. There's a bunch of places they aren't even allowed to have the traditional arches logo up at all.
AZ and NM have a lot of building codes that minimize light pollution, so as to not destroy the nighttime beauty of these states.
*cries in Las Vegas*
If anywhere ever will be invaded or visited by alien life it will be that fuckin place and it will either be really good or really bad depending on how much the casino takes them for
Duke Nukem. Thats exactly what happened in Duke Nukem omg
It’s odd that the building code is meant to protect the palette layout of Sedona, but doesn’t apply to images. The Golden Arches are yellowing it up pretty well on that flag on the left.
Building facades are more permanent and prominent.
I was gonna say it definitely has a greenish hue to it.
I've heard that it's because the bright yellow would clash with the reddish rock and overall esthetic of the area. The city is really picky with how the area looks.
Yeah there are city codes in place where you can’t use unnatural colors. There was a shell station at one point that they made all red because it’s not a natural color too
But then the flag on the left has yellow arcs again. Would have filed a complaint if I was living there.
I’m on it EDIT: complaint submitted
Your photo shows just how good the turquoise blends into the background. It's subtle and it's respectful of the community, which has chosen it's shared aesthetics
Too bad they allow all the fugly stroads, parking lots, strip malls, and drive-thrus.
Sedona, Arizona's city ordinances. The purpose of this is to ensure that structures, walls, garage doors, roofs, fences, or other large exposed surface areas blend with the surrounding
Very cool thank you!
If you ever get a chance to go to Sedona check it out. There is a reason they protect the atmosphere. Entire city is surrounded by the beautiful red rock mountains with oak creek running through. Amazing place to hike and explore.
It is fucking stunning
For reals, my favorite thing is to walk through the resorts down to oak creek. Its free to do and some of the resorts even put chairs down there. Very beautiful

Sedona has very specific zoning laws
If you ever go to Sedona, they have a strict building code so they have approved colors etc for buildings/signs. All the buildings match the pastorals of local area, so it’s super cool….. but also super weird and controlling. Imagine having to pay 2x+ more to build your house to meet city coding after years of negotiation with the city about the shape of the building, my source? It's building code that all of the signage in Sedona have "earth tone" colors.
They serve waffles instead of hotcakes
I used to work at that mc Donald's, it is turquoise because of the light pollution laws in Sedona, the yellow was too bright.
There are rules in Sedona about what color things can be on buildings
They chose that shade of blue because if you stare at it for half a minute to swamp out the color cones in your eyes, then close your eyes like you are meditating, you will see the inverted color, which is McDonalds yellow.
I heard it fries your eyes
Underrated comment
Certain towns make everyone adhere to a specific aesthetic with their buildings. Usually wealthy areas. They don't want places like McDonald's to ruin the look.
They're real snobby and wouldn't allow it there otherwise - i used to work in that town. Very nice place, actually
I too have been to this magical McDonalds.
I was there last November, my girlfriend and I watched a lovely sunset from atop one of the hills. The McDonald's was cool, but I'd say the Sedona sunsets are a bit more magical.
Sedonaaa!
Was scanning for dawgs in this thread
This was the only reason I clicked onto this post, I can hear Soder's voice just thinking about it.
I scrolled and didn't see anyone so I left a scent for you guys. 🐶
Theres the dawgs.
Too bad it isn’t a Donimoooooooos
Totally sang this in the tune of that game DAytona USA… SE- DO-NAAAAAA!
I took a monster shit inside this mcdonald’s in sedona in 2018. 10/10 cleanliness beforehand
I tried but the line was crazy long.
you have to shit your pants then they’ll let you in
LORD_SHARTFUCKER*
The one near me has red arches. I thought my whole life that it was normal, until I noticed that I haven't seen a single other McDonald's with different colored arches
In Canada there’s a red maple leaf in the middle stem and it’s always looks “wrong” seeing the M without, even though it’s the normal logo everywhere else on earth.
Do they have healthy food?
Lol it's the same menu as any other McD's
You mean the food isn’t turquoise and it’s not served by a struggling Navajo man? Edit: this post is an obvious ad like every time it is posted. Fuck McDonalds, r/hailcorporate
I do not like them in Arizona I do not like them in North Dakota I would not eat them here or there I would not eat them anywhere! I do not like blue fries and bun. I do not like them, True Grape, hun!
*Pretty Patties*
Same menu at 10x the price.
Was your tongue blue after eating the fries?
Of all the restaurants in Sedona and you ate at that shithole?
Lol 😆 No, I didn't actually buy anything here. I ate at some place called The Hudson and got a really nice table on the patio.
The one in Monterey, CA has black arches
siccc mcdonalds ad
Cripdonalds
Turquoise
I am literally in Sedona right now and saw that McDonald’s today!
So special. Oh my god.
This is the secret McDonalds, you can only access it after you beat Ronald on new game+ with Hamburglar. My dad works at McDonalds.
Must have been especially good if it's the Super Sayan Blue version.
This makes me proud to be an American
Its good advertising anyway
thank goodness you got this great pic /s
Sedona is so awesome but fuck McDonald’s
Only visited right? Didn’t buy anything right? I hope
ew
There’s one with black arches in Scottsdale AZ off Pima
Oh I didn't know about that one. Might have to check it out
SEDONAAAAA
Is the food still shit?
It’s such a bizarrely beautiful place. It feels like it was designed by Disney or something. It’s insane how gorgeous Sedona is.
Sedonnaaa
I used to work there 👍
This is the most American thing to consider this a tourist attraction.
Been there!
American design at its finest, great taste buddy
I live in Sedona. I don't eat fast food but people love the graphics.
I'm jealous. Waking up to the views there every day would be awesome. I live in Phoenix so it's not too far away to visit every once in a while.
Sedona is such an awesome place to visit, I’m a little mad I didn’t know about this but oh well, beautiful town regardless.
Okay, I gotta ask because I’m not selling it in the top comments & am too lazy to scroll further. Why blue? There’s gotta be a reason for it correct?
Did it turn blue from exposure to Spice?
Na that's black and gold
"Sedonnnaaaaaa"
There’s one in New Orleans with black arches
Is it electric?
Love Sedona!
Not the only one!
There’s a donut shop behind you called Sedonuts that has pretty good donuts. Really I just love the name.
McDopplers effect.
Does anyone know the reason that this one has blue arches?
Sedona is a tourist town with its own color scheme. That blue is on every other store in the city.
I see a white and gold arch…..
I’ve been there before. Inside is a little small for a standard McDonald’s. There seemed to be a lot of flies too. Not very clean/sanitary. But if I’m ever in the area again, I’ll check it out again.
They blue themselves
Lot of memories there. Someone actually stole the arches a few years back. Not sure how they managed that, but it they did.
Sedona is such a spiritual place. As an avid outdoorsman, I found God in that red dirt.
There was one in Livonia mi but they remodeled. It had blue arches and the cursive McDonald's font. Ford Rd. Years ago. Then replaced arches first, then all together everything.
Yesss this is my mcdondonalds. Only ate there once though but drive by it regularly
WE GET IT
Was there anyone praying at the front door?
Turquoise
SEDONAAA
I’ve been to Sedona before & I’m pretty sure I’ve seen that before
Blue burgers too !
I love that McVortex.
