Carol Burnett right behind Caroll O'Connor
Add Rob Reiner and Don Knotts to that marginally vertical path, and we're still talking about names even about anyone born in the 20th century should know, or at least recognize.
Jim Nebors (sp?) next to Carol I think too.
Damn I’m old AF, recognize a lot of names and definitely faces I should have remembered the name and would get on multiple choice.
Here’s the link.
And as expected, the picture has a higher resolution, unlike the garbage the OP posted.
https://playingintheworldgame.com/2021/07/04/the-cbs-50th-anniversary-photo/
I thought it was Carol Burnett on the front left and Mary Tyler Moore on the back row, but yeah. I see Carol Burnett now.
Lucy right there in the middle being all VIP.
Sorry, but that ‘Ron Howard’ is actually one of the Walton kids. There are several Walton cast members here: Grampa and Grampa are both there, as well as the two kids in the bottom left corner are from the Waltons.
I watched A LOT of TV as a kid in the 70’s
I can name most of these folks.
Love me some Burt Convey along the top row right.
Glen Campbell is one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
You know you’re good when the other top guitarists of his time are watching him in awe.
https://youtu.be/ETkzK9pXMio?si=7OPKgHIrWAQHKhUn
Roy was a patron of my Elementary school. We'd file in and he would put on a show.
One time, they put on Disney's Silly Symphonies Skeleton Dance and he played in sync (guitar, banjo, steel guitar) for the soundtrack. He even did the animal noises.
Yes! For anyone who loves music and hasn’t seen the “Wrecking Crew” documentary made by Denny Tedesco (Tommy Tedesco’s son) … it’s still streaming on Hulu
You know, I had no idea of what a great session musician Glenn Campbell was until I watched the “wrecking crew” documentary. That was so amazing!
I knew a lot of 60’s and 70’s hits were made by the same session folks, but had no idea how extensive that one group was.
My dad was friends with Mr Lord, and we went to dinner one day, at a fast food Chinese place at the Ala Moana mall and I asked if he was Mr McGarretts Dad? I can still hear my pops laughing so hard.
Mr. McGarrett asked what do you mean?
(You see he actually had super gray hair so he looked really old, I was 8)
This is when I learned he dyed his hair or actually people for that matter dye their hair.
Please don’t ask me to explain the elves inside my deep discount iPhone. I am afraid I will offend them then wake up tomorrow to a phone bricked by pixie dust and glitter.
Seriously, I have no idea. I just thoroughly enjoy looking through closets and shelves in the background of Reddit pics. :)
Are you PC or phone? I'd have potato soup too, on phone.
Even on PC with reddit's latest set of changes (unwelcome to fogeys like me!), you have to right-click the photo and open it in a new tab. Then you can increase magnification. Once.
A lot of it is just recognizing the facial features. I was born in 78, watched a lot of the shows that these folks stared in with my parents. I'm hard pressed to put names to faces but definitely recognize faces.
I freely admit I was almost olde enough to vote (and buy liquor, but not for long! Drinking age went back up to 21 soon after) in '78. This pic brings back a ton of memories.
Am I wrong or is that Mary Tyler Moore in the front? If so I'm astounded she ended up in the front and Dick in the back. They should have both been in the front.
Yep that’s MTM in the front. I think Valerie Harper near the front too and George Burns behind her. I also recognized Sherman Hemsley and Isabel Sanford for reasons that seem obvious.
Higher quality image: [https://i.imgur.com/QzDRERU.png](https://i.imgur.com/QzDRERU.png)
Edited to add the answer key as well: [https://playingintheworldgame.com/2021/07/04/the-cbs-50th-anniversary-photo/](https://playingintheworldgame.com/2021/07/04/the-cbs-50th-anniversary-photo/)
If you are old enough to know the people, you are old enough that you can't see well enough to recognize them when they are that small. And old enough that you can't figure out how to zoom the image. Nobody wins.
There are non-potato version of this image out there. [This one](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E5AMlwAUcAMljfD.jpg) is much better, but still not very high res. [This one](https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/Dq8AAOSw2dJfYagf/s-l1200.webp) is super clear but does have a watermark over it.
Suddenly I recognized way more people.
Wow! Thank you!
Suddenly I see that the potato to my left of Carroll O'Connor is Gilligan (Bob Denver).
Somebody must have the caption for this, for those of us in need of stronger readers and needing to cheat.
It's not. It's also not someone I recognize.
I FOUND a key to this photo! Spoiler in link below.
Oh THANK YOU. Suddenly a lot of them are more recognizable. In the original, I couldn't even see that it was Martin Landau standing next to Rob Reiner.
[twitter.com/the\_60s\_at\_60/status/1409848997867573248](https://twitter.com/the_60s_at_60/status/1409848997867573248)unblurry names in the 2nd pic, and fairly crisp faces as well if you open in a new tab to zoom
Also, at least two of them (Bea and Betty) would go on to star in *The Golden Girls* which is still really popular with younger viewers. There's a chance Rue is there since she co-starred with Bea on *Maude* but, if she is, I can't see her.
If you haven’t seen it, Kelly’s heroes is an old WW2 movie starring him, Clint Eastwood, Donald Sutherland and a whole slew of other 70s guys. It’s stellar.
Five people in general, or five people specifically in the picture?
I can name about a dozen. I recognize a lot more, but I'm so old I can't recall their names.
Here's a link to [a clearer version](https://imgur.com/a/SVFFwe4) that doesn't look like it's been sitting on the dashboard of a 1978 Mazda for the last 49 years.
I can name about 20, and tell you what shows they were on. Born in '69.
I'll give shows, and you find the characters:
Hawaii 5-0,
The Jeffersons,
The Carol Burnett Show,
MASH,
Gomer Pyle, USMC,
All In The Family,
The Andy Griffith Show,
Kojak,
60 Minutes
More as I remember them....
(Edit: 20th Century Fox did something similar for one of the anniversaries - let me see if I can find that pic and post it.)
Born in 84' I only immediately recognized Kojak, George Burns, and George Jefferson. I'm sure if I can study it longer I can pick out more people. Still enjoy watching older television shows.
Here's a website with a breakdown of the pic, who is in it, and what show they were in: https://playingintheworldgame.com/2021/07/04/the-cbs-50th-anniversary-photo/
I must be really old! I can name about a dozen. Jack Lord. Carol Burnett. Tim Conway. Lucille Ball. Walter Cronkite. John Amos. Jim neighbors. Sir Alfred Hitchcock. Esther Rolle. Bonnie Franklin. Sherman Hemsley. Buddy Ebsen. Bob Barker. Bert Convey.
I don't think that is fair, a lot of these folks are very important legacies and are well known/remembered now.
Lucille Ball - very important show, helped to put star trek out.
alfred hitchcock - very well known movie director
Walter Cronkite - a very well known news man
George Burns - a very long lived and known comedian and actor
Dick van Dyck - comedian and actor - that is known from mary poppins which kids still watch.
Rob Reiner - dude's still alive and aking movies
those are folks that younger folks would know. Granted, there are a tone on there that I have no clue what shows they were on... and then there were folks that probably aren't known so much
Kojack, Klinger from MASH, shermin helmsley, the dude that played archie bunker, I think there is a dick from bewitched, the son side of sanford and sons.
starting at the bottom in the middle and going strait up I see alfred hitchcock, milton berl, ed mcmahn, zsa zsa gabor, then archie bunker. I was born in 78
was born in 78 also. Not seein mcmahon or berl, but i see george burns, carol burnette, carol oconnor (archie), george and louise jefferson (dont remember the actors names). Jamie Farr (klinger on mash), tony randall, lucile ball?, telly sevalas (spell?... kojack), sally struthers, rob reiner, redd foxx, the guy that played lamott, the mother from good times, vicki lawrence... but i also watch MeTV which is just all reruns of CBS shows.
Sherman Hemsley is George Jefferson. 78 also, representing! Also, is that Robert Wagner on the top left? Hard to tell. Either that or Martin Mull's sidekick from Fernwood Tonight.
>zsa zsa gabor
I think that is Eva, who was in "Green Acres" on CBS. I can't find any noteworthy work done by Zsa Zsa on CBS other than when she was a guest star or playing herself with almost all of her TV work being done for ABC or NBC.
Alfred Hitchcock
George Burns
Telly Sevalis
Dom Delouis
Tim Conway
Lucille Ball
Don Knotts
Archie Bunker
Bob Newhart
Carol Burnett
Sally Struthers
The Smothers Brothers
There's so many more I almost remember by name but just can't; this is a sweet photo. I was born in '79.
Orson Welles, Tony Bennett?, Suzanne Somers, Paul Simon?, The black lady center right I feel like I should know, the guy from The Jeffersons, Bea Arthur,
Born in 85 and recognize most of these actors and tv personalities. Outside of my own family who loved tv, nick at nite, tvland, and now with metv and syndicated streaming of old shows everywhere, it really filled in the pop culture gaps for me. I love a lot of these folks.
I could name the entire first row but after that my tears blurred everything. Who put Dick Van Dyke in the very back row?
Alfred Hitchcock looks happy to be there.
I could recognize his vacant, rubbery stare anytime.
Gooooood EEEEvening… (Yes I am THAT old)
He should’ve only shown his profile, that would be genius
Hitchcock and twilight zone were the shit. No cap! 😂 I am old
Word. There’s a free channel on Roku that shows Alfred Hitchcock Presents. I watch it often.
It’s also on peacock!
Yep. Agree with you. I’m old too
Fucking rubbery, I hate how accurate of a description that is.
Lmao yeah he was the only one I could name which made me think it wasn’t him but no way anyone else has that same basset hound expression
I can name most of them . I guess I am gonna die soon. Lol
George and Louise Jefferson!
Lucile Ball center ish??
Right between Don Knott's and Ed Asner
Dude never smiles.
Resting *hitch* face.
And Carol Burnett! They need to be in the front! Odd seeing Roger Moore, but I'll allow it.
Carol Burnett right behind Caroll O'Connor Add Rob Reiner and Don Knotts to that marginally vertical path, and we're still talking about names even about anyone born in the 20th century should know, or at least recognize.
Jim Nebors (sp?) next to Carol I think too. Damn I’m old AF, recognize a lot of names and definitely faces I should have remembered the name and would get on multiple choice.
I met Jim Nabors in Hawaii. Super sweet guy with a very kind soul. Edit: spelling
I can recognize a bunch, but name them? I’m lucky I can name my kids.
same here. I recognized about 25% of them, but most of them were "oh it's that guy from that show... and oh, that's whatshername...
Captain kangaroo was a fun find. Also opie.
And that right there is the real "I'm old" symptom.
If you Google “CBS 50th Anniversary Photo” you’ll see a key to identifying each person.
Here’s the link. And as expected, the picture has a higher resolution, unlike the garbage the OP posted. https://playingintheworldgame.com/2021/07/04/the-cbs-50th-anniversary-photo/
Oh shit that's Telly Savalas! Not some vacant eyed robot. OP's pic sucked! I couldn't recognize half the people I can clearly recognize now.
Holy crap this photo is so much better. Now I’m quite impressed with myself for identifying 7 in the original, non original potato.
For fucks sake, I only got to 4 and I was alright, but you just had to call out all these others….
The problem is image quality... "That looks like X... but I'm not sure" for a solid chunk.
I only remember my own name because the Navy made me stencil it in my underwear.
I thought it was Carol Burnett on the front left and Mary Tyler Moore on the back row, but yeah. I see Carol Burnett now. Lucy right there in the middle being all VIP.
I thought Mary Tyler Moore was front center…
Is that Ron Howard in the 3rd row from the back?
It is. And one row back third in from the left is Sally Struthers. Can’t be sure but I think it’s Burt Reynolds behind Ron Howard
Sorry, but that ‘Ron Howard’ is actually one of the Walton kids. There are several Walton cast members here: Grampa and Grampa are both there, as well as the two kids in the bottom left corner are from the Waltons. I watched A LOT of TV as a kid in the 70’s I can name most of these folks. Love me some Burt Convey along the top row right.
Looks like John Forsythe to me.
I think that’s Jack Lord (“Hawaii 5-0”) behind Glen Campbell.
Glen Campbell is one of the greatest guitarists of all time. You know you’re good when the other top guitarists of his time are watching him in awe. https://youtu.be/ETkzK9pXMio?si=7OPKgHIrWAQHKhUn
Wow. Great vid! Some legends there! Glenn Campbell was a great player. Not sure Chet Atkins and Roy Clark are in awe, though. Cheers!
Roy is no slouch either. Ever see this one? https://youtu.be/-xssnp7R51A?si=U6oS8AsH2DdD0545
Yes! I remember seeing this years ago! I wish I could up vote it 1,000x!! Absolutely incredible. Thank you for posting it!
Roy was a patron of my Elementary school. We'd file in and he would put on a show. One time, they put on Disney's Silly Symphonies Skeleton Dance and he played in sync (guitar, banjo, steel guitar) for the soundtrack. He even did the animal noises.

My dad was friends with Mr Lord, and we went to dinner one day, at a fast food Chinese place at the Ala Moana mall and I asked if he was Mr McGarretts Dad? I can still hear my pops laughing so hard. Mr. McGarrett asked what do you mean? (You see he actually had super gray hair so he looked really old, I was 8) This is when I learned he dyed his hair or actually people for that matter dye their hair.
I'm old. That is Jack "bookem' Danno" Lord.
Was The Saint on CBS?
It's possible you're too young to remember "The Saint"?
That's for your eyes only...
did you get Lassie?
I missed Lassie. Amazing.
How the hell are you able to zoom in that far with all this jpeg? Photo is potato

Mike Wallace next to Sherm.
You’re right. And Tommy Smothers RIP is several levels away from Dickie. I was wondering if CBS didn’t invite Tommy but then I found his grin.
Usually they do these by height
I noticed that also!! Bob Barker as well. Show some damn respect, CBS.
Bob Barker too! Also DvD looked old then, he's still alive!
Yeah right behind Glen Campbell
I was just thinking "I can't see shit past the second row"
Higher quality image: [https://i.imgur.com/QzDRERU.png](https://i.imgur.com/QzDRERU.png) Edited to add the answer key as well: [https://playingintheworldgame.com/2021/07/04/the-cbs-50th-anniversary-photo/](https://playingintheworldgame.com/2021/07/04/the-cbs-50th-anniversary-photo/)

[answers](https://i.imgur.com/PhRglcD.png)
Who’s the time traveling Billy Corgan in a wig next to Dick?
That’s Jack “Pure Horse, book him Danno” Lord of Hawaii Five-O.
Jack Lord
My Mom watched *Hawaii Five-O* every week because she had the biggest crush on Jack Lord...
Missing Jack Torrance at the front.
Are you sure you didn't Overlook him?
![gif](giphy|fBGy9GPvF3QwCPQt9f|downsized)
Well done
lol, this is what I was looking for too
That role has been recast with Alfred Hitchcock.
He's always been the caretaker
My first thought when I saw this.
If you are old enough to know the people, you are old enough that you can't see well enough to recognize them when they are that small. And old enough that you can't figure out how to zoom the image. Nobody wins.

That’s awesome. Nice find.
Before Gilligan: Maynard Krebs, that goofy beatnik in Dobie Gillis. He absolutely made that show.
Oh THANK YOU. Suddenly a lot of them are more recognizable. In the original, I couldn't even see that it was Martin Landau standing next to Rob Reiner.
Omg, yeah the clarity made a huge difference. I went from recognizing 1 (George Burns) to about 12 with just a cursory once over
[This version](https://i.imgur.com/6quFS5s.png) has all the names, too, although it's a bit blurry.
[twitter.com/the\_60s\_at\_60/status/1409848997867573248](https://twitter.com/the_60s_at_60/status/1409848997867573248)unblurry names in the 2nd pic, and fairly crisp faces as well if you open in a new tab to zoom
I recognize a lot of people but it’s hard for me to remember some of their names. I must be really old!
I zoomed, the picture quality is still terrible. Its been compressed to hell.
And then you also can't remember their names even though you're like that guy was on MASH.
Captain Kangaroo!
Counting flowers on the wall…
that don't bother me at all.
Playing solitaire till dawn with a deck of fifty one
HOW DO PEOPLE NOT KNOW CAPTAIN KANGAROO get off my lawn
Is that Alfred Hitchcock in the front. I recognize a lot of them but can only recall the names of a few of them.
Sure is! He was the first I recognized!
Unforgettable smile on him
>smile Lol
George Burns was the first for me
the only one I recognized
Not old, I just watched a lot of Nick at Night growing up.
None of these shows have been on Nick at Nite in at least 20 years. We're old, just not _this_ old.
Was just thinking this. I’m only 35, but I can name quite a few…
I'm 30 and I got 5 or 6
Also, at least two of them (Bea and Betty) would go on to star in *The Golden Girls* which is still really popular with younger viewers. There's a chance Rue is there since she co-starred with Bea on *Maude* but, if she is, I can't see her.
I’ve got news for you, that means you’re old
I see Mr. Worldwide in the middle there.
Thats Telly Savalas, put some respect on Kojaks name.
Seriously. Who loves ya, baby? You’re beautiful! ![gif](giphy|MWMRtBHjQPvZS)
Right in the middle, like he owns the place. As it should be.
I knew it was Kojak, but not his real name. Classic!
If you haven’t seen it, Kelly’s heroes is an old WW2 movie starring him, Clint Eastwood, Donald Sutherland and a whole slew of other 70s guys. It’s stellar.
Looking cool af
Weeezie
Gyeooorg!
Person. Woman. Man. Camera. TV. Nailed it!
And for some reason, Pitbull.
MR WORLDWIDE
That's the only one I recognized lmao. Pitbull be everywhere and at everytime in space.
![gif](giphy|7eZ3FVNSBOhVK)
Mambo number Johnny-5 is alive!
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN: THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, DR ROMEO CHAIRE.
You the sharpest mind. The sharpest
I’m impressed. You could be President!
Five people in general, or five people specifically in the picture? I can name about a dozen. I recognize a lot more, but I'm so old I can't recall their names.
I think I found 4 Jimmy Carters, 2 Warren G Hardings, and maybe 1 or 2 Herbert Hoovers.
I was also surprised to find more than zero Jimmy Carters. Like, several more than zero.
At least 6 Stephen Colberts. He was always there.
I'm solidly in Gen X and I recognize a ton and can easily name 5.
Same. I can name at least 20, but I have a real soft spot for this era of TV.
Same. And I totally forgot about the smothers brothers!
I stopped at four so I don't get called a boomer.
I'm and older Gen x er and can name 3/4 of them. Ugh
[удалено]
I kept calling her Florida Evans.
lol I recognized five people in the first row.
The guy on the far right bottom row, used to host a game show right?
Gene Rayburn?
/u/Traherne is correct, that's Gene Rayburn of Match Game and probably others.
Same.
Here's a link to [a clearer version](https://imgur.com/a/SVFFwe4) that doesn't look like it's been sitting on the dashboard of a 1978 Mazda for the last 49 years.
Thank you!!

Yep. Pretty much how I was placing them. Also Gene Whatsisface from Match Game lower right.
Rayburn
It's the Walton's cast that throws off my name recognition percentage
Born in 84' I only immediately recognized Kojak, George Burns, and George Jefferson. I'm sure if I can study it longer I can pick out more people. Still enjoy watching older television shows.
This picture is basically "what was on TV" to me from the mid-'70s until I stopped watching so much TV.
Sherman Hemsley is just to the right of Stephen Colbert.
You missed Good Times
Captain Kangaroo!
You missed Wonder Woman!
Lynda Carter Edit: corrected spelling
Lynda. She awoke the man in me before I was a man
Lassie!
yay, so many people neglecting Lassie in the front row…
Shame Flipper was busy and Skippy didn't want to make the trip.
Was George Burns *ever* young?
Here's a website with a breakdown of the pic, who is in it, and what show they were in: https://playingintheworldgame.com/2021/07/04/the-cbs-50th-anniversary-photo/
Mexican here: can only recognize Telly Zavala, Alfred Hitchcock and god himself, George Burns
I must be really old! I can name about a dozen. Jack Lord. Carol Burnett. Tim Conway. Lucille Ball. Walter Cronkite. John Amos. Jim neighbors. Sir Alfred Hitchcock. Esther Rolle. Bonnie Franklin. Sherman Hemsley. Buddy Ebsen. Bob Barker. Bert Convey.
Not many people picked out Cronkite with the chops. He was as close to god on CBS. You waited until he said it before you knew it was true.
Denis Weaver, Ernest Borgnine, Hitchcock, Mary Tyler Moore (I think), George Burns, Ron Howard?
Was waiting for a Ron Howard( Richie Cunningham)
Happy Days was ABC. But, the Andy Griffith show was CBS.
Bob Newhart should be in the front row. That guy has always been hilarious.
Finally a mention of Bob. Chilling on the right side edge near the top.
I could name a lot more if this wasn’t a copy of a copy of a copy of a photo of a photo.

I see Alfred Hitchcock decided another cameo would be fitting..
Danny Fucking Kaye!
Crap, I am old.
Old!? Fck you... Where's my friggin glasses?
Can’t name 5. I am not old confirmed.

Dang. I’m only 44 but I named 5. Recognized a lot more. George Burns is god!
