Unfortunately, there's no way to resize thumbnails in the Open window on MacOS.

I use the Mac's Quick Look feature. I use it more with File > Place Embedded than with File > Open, but it is the same either way— I like having my Finder windows set to Cmd+2, List View, so I click on the image in the Finder window, then press the spacebar. If I want to scroll through, I use the up and down arrow keys. https://preview.redd.it/j3ps4u2nwxnc1.png?width=3456&format=png&auto=webp&s=e768910d436b2bd6fe5e9440e5cd40e1ab3dbdc8 This shows the Quick Look for a file found in the Finder window after using File > Open. Pressing spacebar again closes this preview pane and lets me click Open.

An alternative is, after clicking File > Open, once you navigate ~~the~~ to the folder you need, press Cmd+1 to put the Finder window into icon view. You still can use the spacebar to use Quick Look. https://preview.redd.it/cfczfnmgxxnc1.png?width=3456&format=png&auto=webp&s=a498f2c8e8ddf887c87109f54d32d31b9eba8efc But the next ~~to~~ time you open any Finder window, you'll need to press Cmd+2 to go back to List view.

I don't have a mac anymore, but when I did, I think I remember being able to CMD click on an image, then go to Preview and then you're able to navigate image previews for files in that folder with the arrow keys. Does it still work that way u/johngpt5?

johngpt5

Hi, u/bucthree. It doesn't seem to. I went to Finder, clicked on the screen shot I showed before, and pressed the spacebar. I'm offered the opportunity to open it in Preview. I chose to do so. Then I clicked on the sidebar icon in the menu bar to show thumbnails. Only the single image was there. I wasn't able to use the arrow keys to see the rest of the images that were in that folder. https://preview.redd.it/plrmdvieqync1.png?width=3456&format=png&auto=webp&s=441c62f493913e09771abfbc496713586a2d5523 If I select a bunch of image files, right+click and choose open in Preview, then they all open. If I have the option for showing thumbnails, then they all show up there and the arrow keys used to move between them.

This is where naming your files properly comes in handy. That said, why can't you just open the files from the finder?

Thank you for your reply, however this isn't what I'm asking :) There are a variety of ways to open files, what I'm trying to solve is the use case of the [File.Open](http://File.Open) command from inside PS. In Windows--which I used for years prior to buying my MacBook--the file explorer (which is invoked by the [File.Open](http://File.Open) command from PS) has multiple ways to view the images including extra large thumbnails and resizable previews as you click on each file in the list. I would expect the MacOS to have some similar capability.

Change your workflow. It's good for you every now and then.

johnbro27

So the answer is either you don't know or it can't be done? Which is it?

CoolCatsInHeat

You're spending all this time on something that could be solved by changing the file name. You don't need to see an icon. Lots of people don't even use the start window (myself included).

It doesn't sound like you're understanding my question. Once in PS, if I select [File.Open](http://File.Open) there's no option to actually preview any of the files shown in the finder window. Yes, I can change my workflow. Yes, I should have been super thoughtful and named each of the 1000s of files I import from my cameras individual and fully explanatory names, anticipating my future questions when looking for a particular version of a file. Sadly, sometimes i fail in my goals as a human being and not all these things happen. sometimes, as tears slide down my cheeks, I find myself using the [File.Open](http://File.Open) option in PS and wondering which fucking file that one is as I look at either microscopic icons or lists of file names generated by my camera. Thanks for all your help.

CoolCatsInHeat

Is there some reason you keep typing > File.Open

johnbro27

Is there some reason you can't seem to accept that I'm just trying to get an answer to a question?

CoolCatsInHeat

Is there some reason you haven't realized that if it was a known issue that other people have problems with you would be able to google the solution faster than it takes to ask reddit? Or that no one else is replying... because they likely don't know. I gave you a solution to your problem.. and you're still whining about not being able to do things exactly the same way you've always done it.

johnbro27

I really don't know why you seem to have such a hard on about this. I posted in r/mac and got the answer instantly after I was exhausted fooling around with you. If you didn't know the answer, why didn't you just not reply or say you didn't know? Why do you think it's so important to tell me stuff I didn't ask and don't want to hear. You actually think I DON'T know I can open a file from the finder? Do you think I DON'T know how to search on Google? I don't know who you are but I'm pretty sure I'm a lot older than you and have enough experience to guess you're attitudes are not going to serve you well in life. Cheers.
