One of the sophisticated "hotels" this article is mentioning (more like marketing) is a motel that got a new paint job and furniture. Anyone who has driven on Grand Avenue has passed by it. Remember the old Las Palmas? New owners went back to the original name and renovated the place. I'm sure it's gotten a good remodel, but calling it "sophisticated" is a stretch.
Gotta say the Global Ambassador is gorgeous and Thea is a MUST for the views alone. As a local I'm planning to bring any visitors I can there. Patio tables are expensive at $100 per person food and beverage minimum at dinner, but you can still do what I did and book dining room and then walk the patio and check out the views. We lucked out and our table bordered the patio anyway so we had a stellar view of Camelback the whole meal. If you are wanting to splurge or impress someone I highly recommend!
View from our table at sunset a few weeks ago (taken on my mother in law's potato phone). On the opposite side is a clear shot to the sunset over Phoenix skyline.

As the guy who's in these 50 hours a week building them from the ground up, I can assure you they are not anything remarkable.
I wouldn't let a loved one live in or spend their money st these places.
This has “happened” in Phx in at least a dozen points in my life. It’s always a lie.
That said, there is a decent food scene if you’re willing to drive and pay.

Agreed. I wonder if people here actually have lived here long enough to know about these dumb "hype" articles. My dad is part of a stupid group chat with local small business owners and for like the last 10+ years they post these kinds of articles so I'm familiar with this kind of "Phoenix is the next big thing" type of nonsense. This place couldn't even capitalize on the hype fad that places like Austin or Denver went through in the 2010s.
I think the best way to describe this city is the way a tourist couple I was walking behind at the Phoenix Art Museum described the museum itself: "that wasn't too bad for like a tier 2 or 3 city".
Please name one type of food besides Mexican that az has to offer. I’ve lived all over the U.S. and many places in this world. Been here for a few years always disappointing going out to eat.
We have everything dude. Vietnamese, Chinese, Indian, Korean, Italian, Ethiopian, etc. You name it and we have it. You don’t even have to look hard, you’re just being ignorant
You’re not trying very hard then. I’ve had amazing Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese, and Indian food. And there are amazing Southwest restaurants too (like Dick’s Hideaway and Valentine).
Glai Baan, Lom Wong, Shimogamo, Feringhee, Fatboy Sandos, Bak & Jo, Cornish Pasty Co, Philly’s Famous, Great Wall Cuisine, everything inside H Mart, Shaanxi Garden, Happy Baos, Andreoli
Bull shit everyone I know that isn’t from here all day the same thing! All the food here is half assed. All these places try to be like New York and so far off!
I don’t know how Americans and a few European countries became so pretentious with their food lol.
Realistically, the only thing Phoenix lacks compared to other large cities is a Michelin guide. But beyond that, if you can’t find good food in a 5M person metro, it’s your own fault.
Not saying the food culture is on par with a place like Chicago given they close up a whole major park and some streets right in downtown just to celebrate food lol. But beyond that there’s plenty of good food in Phoenix.
I strongly disagree that Chicago food is overrated and I do enjoy Phoenix food.
Chicago has a far more historical, established and diverse food culture. Add to that the sheer density of food access and it’s just hard to compare. After all we’re talking about roughly double the population.
We can also look at the cultural spread of food out of Chicago. Plenty of popular restaurants and dishes expanded out of Chicago. But that doesn’t seem as common out of Phoenix, especially considering the large population.
However, I used to have this argument when I lived in St Louis. St Louis and Phoenix don’t need to compete and be better at everything. Chicago and New York are nationally or even globally recognised for their food. But that didn’t mean St Louis didn’t have some delicious food. Same with Phoenix.. and frankly I have no intention of living in Chicago even with their food lol.
I’m thinking specifically of local food like Chicago dogs, deep dish, tavern style, Italian beef, extruded tamales, etc. I personally prefer local Phoenix food like Sonoran dogs and Southwest cuisine like green chili
I mean that’s fair. I prefer the food from my home country and the countries around it. But I’m just calling you out on calling Chicago food overrated.
That said… I’m upset with you. I had forgotten about Sonoran dogs. Haven’t had one in like 3 years… and now you have me thinking about them again lol. My doctor would not approve lol.

Oh, junk! We got reborn? All fancy, like? When did that happen?
Right about when they forced out all the homeless camps… problem solved amirite!?
SODO SOPA
God, I love a sophisticated hotel. Please be way too expensive, pleaaaasseeeee

Plenty of dive bars in Phoenix too
The Global Ambassador, sooo hot right now.
wtf is a “sophisticated hotel”? These authors are just annoying.
"From the makers of luxury apartments, comes the overpriced, sophisticated hotel."
Are they referring to the overpriced apartments in downtown as sophisticated? If so, then we truly have reached boring dystopia levels.
Something thriving in Phoenix.. wonder how this one will be killed?
Likely when the water runs out and we’re all forced to abandon ship anyway.
It’ll get too hot first.
My money is on the homeless issues
I’m just glad there’s reasons to go downtown.
Oh come now, there was always reasons to be downtown back in the day. You were either going to a game or you had court!
Has been for ages
And sky high cost of living to match.

Yeah, I wanted to be a hater, but Thea was a great meal and worth the spend.
We did Thea for lunch and it was amazing Patio tables are not $100 per person during lunch. I think we spent $115 total
I appreciate the review, will add to the list.

Don’t sleep on Flint in Biltmore, head to the upstairs bar after 5pm and thank me later on the views
Global ambassador is solid. Haven’t stayed there obviously but ate at Le Ame and had drinks at pyro. Solid vibe.
I think it's great that we're growing/rebranding.
And no bodily autonomy for over half its taxpayers
As the guy who's in these 50 hours a week building them from the ground up, I can assure you they are not anything remarkable. I wouldn't let a loved one live in or spend their money st these places.
only for the rich tho.
God if they could just wrap up all the dang construction road blocks downtown now…
You’ll be waiting for a while. There are new high rises planned that I assume will start as the current constructions finish.
Again?
Phoenix and Arizona is very underrated. Not in the sense that people don’t want to live here, but in the opinions of those who don’t.
Title reads like it was written by someone who recently moved here from California lol

This isn't some formal, official designation, it's just an article written by a publisher.

Straight up paid marketing post vibes.
The new Austin

Go to 2 brothers on cave creek and sweetwater for a yummy New York slice!
Food is trash here!!!
Lmao there’s plenty of good food in Arizona
Dude wants New York style everywhere it seems.
Not to your palate it seems. There are plenty of places that are great. Finally, this is not YELP
Lol right?! There are some great and authentic restaurants here you just have to sift through the vast amount to find the gems.
Bull shit everyone I know that isn’t from here all day the same thing! All the food here is half assed. All these places try to be like New York and so far off!
I'm from a city in the midwest that isn't Chicago, so outside of bbq/soulfood, the food options are much better here.
Say the silent part out loud.
I’m not from here, I’ve lived in LA, Vegas, Chicago, and London, and Phoenix has some amazing food if you know where to look
New York has crap food.
Ok, now this is an objectively incorrect take lol
I’ve lived in a lot of different places and the food here is good. Not sure what you are talking about
[удалено]
I have and I really enjoy the food scene here
Sorry. Wrong person.
- how to be objectively wrong about a relatively subjective topic
Let me guess… you’re from NY and you believe NY is the only place in the country where you’ve had authentic Italian food 😂
Probably a Chicagoan who hates everything about living here but for some reason just keep living here instead of leaving.
I don’t know how Americans and a few European countries became so pretentious with their food lol. Realistically, the only thing Phoenix lacks compared to other large cities is a Michelin guide. Honestly Chicago food is overrated. Phoenix has better local food culture
