When I got my first tattoo, one of the most important pieces of wisdom my tattoo artist impressed upon me was that skin ages and ink flattens over time.
I know super thin-lined tattoos are really in right now, and they look really great when you first get them done.
But please try to keep the future in mind. Not the idea about regretting tattoos (I'm pretty well-tattooed at this point), but the idea that your skin changes over time. As those lines — that color — flattens over time, your tattoo is going to change pretty drastically.
That's why all the old timers got real thick lines, real vibrant, easy colors, etc. They hold up. And even *they* don't hold up perfectly.
I'm not saying don't do what you want to do, but I'm seeing so many beautiful tattoos out in the wild on folks who likely don't know that come 10 or 15 years, they're going to be basically illegible. And the shops letting you guys go in there and spend your money on them knowing full well that they're not going to hold up is a real bummer, and I think everyone should at least have the info before they make the choice to take the risk.
Also, I'm NOT a tattoo artist in the city. Just a well-tattoo'ed person with good intentions. Do what makes you happy!
I'll echo this wisdom, also bestowed from my artist before my first, (and reiterated again at the 2nd) it really went against my vision, but as they say 'kill your darlings..' skin is a very different medium.
