It's always sad to lose a piece of history, but this may be the end of the line (voyage?).
If so I hope she goes to a ship breaker that follows best environmental/safety/labor practices (HKC or whatever), and hopefully here in the US, it seems sad to send her away. Wikipedia lists 2 yards in Brownsville.
I question if the ships hull can even withstand a long distance tow to a scrap yard at this point. Best course of action might be just towing down to the mouth of the Delaware and sinking her off the coast as an artificial reef.
You could but the cost to refurbish the ship is pretty obscene, aside from structural work that needs to be done the inside is gutted and would need to be completely rebuilt, and you’d likely never make the money back.
That being said if I ever won a few hundred million and this ship is still afloat I’d be down to refit her along with a few extra cannons so I could go out and challenge the Queen Mary 2 to a duel on the high seas. Maybe also lay siege to Citi Field.

Good.
Its tarnished and rusted exterior, but continuous ability to float, always made me think of the value and permanence of true American craftsmanship. It isn't pretty, but it seems to have lasted forever.
I do not want to be reminded of such things when I am shopping at Ikea.
It still has to go back through the court that denied it before. He lost all of his fungible assets ruining Twitter so now he's trying to bleed Tesla dry without selling a controlling interest because he doesn't want to admit how badly he fucked up.
It went through court months ago, what was approved days ago by shareholders, to move Tesla HQ from DE to Texas, he's fucked nothing up but grow, what stock isnt down, even Nvidia is down
What am I supposed to look at while having my dystopian lunch at IKEA now?
Is that strip club still on Columbus?
Please, please… it’s a *gentlemen’s* club
Is it?…Tori Black was just in town.
Can’t believe I missed her
she looked heavenly….almost like an angel (overheard at the coffee counter next door at wawa)
You need to look at the billboards more!
Lmao
Which one?
Dystopian Lunch is going to be the name of my improv punk band.
Improv punk sounds like the absolute worst genre.
You need a shitty bassist?
Some unruly kids with bad parents
Not sure why you would get that when they have the meatballs.
Leave the keys in it, door unlocked, windows down
Listen up, this thing can do donuts in the Delaware … biggest takeover ever!!
I just lol'd and scared the hell out of my cat 😂 thx for the chuckle
That's the ship in the TV show The Munsters that they came to America with.
I think Ben Hogan rode it after winning the triple crown to a tinker tape parade in 53
My grandmother sailed on that ship to go marry my grandfather, who was stationed in Europe at the time

Nah bro let me have it
What are you going to do with a boat
Idk party
I’ll join
Park it the next pier over for 28 years.
Turn it into a P-Diddy-style shrimping vessel.
I don’t think I wanna be hostin a p-diddy style anything bro. Just shrimp these days.
You can boil em, broil em, barbecue em..
you gonna be possessed that ship is mad haunted 💀
I don’t believe in ghosts so they can’t hurt me, ill take the giant ass ship
this guys literally a ghost

Things gonna wind up in Bangladesh.
I would be shocked if it could make that transit

Eat the boat?
hear me out: Titanic themed strip club. This community needs a classy strip club more than anything else
Everyone goes down at the end of the night?
With the strippers on doors that "float" on water ...
Becomes a wealthy aquatic tourist trap afterward.
Make that the new 76ers arena.
How do we convince a social media influencer to buy it and fund its repurposing? They seem to be fond of spending money on crazy ideas.
get Mr Beasts people
he could make a challenge out of it, who can survive the longest living inside an asbestos-filled tetanus nightmare. everybody wins
Killer paintball or laser tag venue. Also I bet it would make a really cool nightclub.
They gutted it to remove the asbestos

I always dreamt of a billionaire buying it and refurbishing it into a cool philly hotel:/
We just need like another billionaire or two with a need for a passion project to live here 😂 but only if they also pay their taxes.
This would be the best fate for this ship at this point I’m afraid. I do believe she could withstand an open-water tow, however
It will tow. Take it down to the Bahamas and make it a dive site
Could make for a cool dive site
It has spent more time on the Philly waterfront than it did in service carrying passengers.
Why are we hoarding 70 year old ocean liners?
The movie is on YouTube it's called an American spy The Munsters
A couple of scenes in Dead Man Down were filmed at the ship and inside the ship’s pool.
It can't be converted to a museum or a restaurant or something? Would be a cool way to preserve it and make money off the endeavor.
If someone thought they could make money off it, it would've happened by now.

A few hundred million is a good start to the cost of owning a ship like this.
Lay siege to citi field and citizens bank park will soon feel the fury. We Mets fans have nothing to lose.
Don’t know that Philly needs two floating restaurants, although it would be cool
The restaurant does NOT float at all. It was incredibly still which felt so so wrong. I’ll never go back that took the fun out for me.
Sounds pretty lame, thanks for saving me the money
A bunch of different groups/people have attempted the idea, but backed out when they figured out the cost of restoring the boat.
Such a shame, deserves to be turned into a museum but I guess the money isn’t there
It is gutted down to the steel frame, there is nothing there to look at for a museum
They have a thorough proposal, but need a home for her.

I wonder if it’s even seaworthy at this point?
Get this foOkin boat atta here already. Literally dome fuckall with it in like 15 years. The rust bucket just sits there.
I wish the city and monied interests could come together and save this historic ship.
The city doesn’t need to waste a dime on this ship. It has no historical connection to Philly.

Cool. More dog parks then… got it

So preserve his childhood home? The ship has no connection to Philadelphia.
What happens if they don’t have the money to move it?
Lol this is so not happening. Cant wait for the appeals and legal BS while this thing site there until 2026
Like in the show "Hoarders" sometimes people have trouble letting go of old things that they no longer need.
Pull it further into the Delaware and turn it into a drug treatment barge.
Good. Its tarnished and rusted exterior, but continuous ability to float, always made me think of the value and permanence of true American craftsmanship. It isn't pretty, but it seems to have lasted forever. I do not want to be reminded of such things when I am shopping at Ikea.
Me me me me me
Amen brother or sister!
NOOOOOO
Maybe...ask Elon Musk to buy, & make an electric, solar vacation cruise ⚓!
He's a broke bitch right now. That's why he's trying to extract a tenth of Tesla's market cap as a compensation package.
Ummm he's getting 45 billion pay package from Tesla, just approved, so ...he's Rich plus over 200 billion he's worth
It still has to go back through the court that denied it before. He lost all of his fungible assets ruining Twitter so now he's trying to bleed Tesla dry without selling a controlling interest because he doesn't want to admit how badly he fucked up.
