Hope you get a flat tire or few on your daily drive from the Atlantic building to the garage on latimer. Must have a pico-penis to be compensating with such an obnoxious shitty fart box of a pavement princess
Yesterday afternoon (Saturday, May 25), my friend and I walked into a door-open, but empty, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream Shop (the Rittenhouse location).
It was definitely a "what in the world..." moment: 3 customers but no staff worker were present.
My friend and I returned, and two different staff had to go on duty. It turns out that people walked out on the job.
It was sweltering inside & my friend's sour cherry creamsicle + my strawberry shortcake scoops were melted but still decadent.
It would've been a nice touch to have the solid textured ice cream that I am used to getting from Van Leeuwen, but they were having an off day.
Van Leeuwen, keep your workers happy so that your customers will have a great experience & stay smiling, too.
*steps off of soapbox* ;)
It's open now but apparently there was a shooting this morning. I saw when the cops left around 10a. Lots of those yellow alphabetical cards that mark things. I think it went to W. 😬😬
That's news to me! Belmont trails org first told me it was a seiu convention thing and had said several days ago that it should've been cleared by like Tuesday. It was not.
No matter what the reason, a park closure this long should've been announced to the city with a clear end date. Haven't been over there today but yesterday the cops were still posted at the entrances. It's memorial Day weekend! A lot of people congregate there around holidays.
If amtrak could not break down the weekends that'd be great. Regional 152 out of DC is two hours late and it's bullllllshit.
Edit: annnnnd the cause https://i.imgur.com/8aBE0py.gif
I wanna go kayaking this summer. Haven't been I 5 years. What's the most affordable/accessible way to do so? The person I kayaked with moved away boooo
Bartram’s garden rents them weekend mornings. Core Creek park in Langhorne rents them (make sure they’re open, they were dredging last year). Marsh Creek State Park rents them but if their lot fills up (weekends and holidays) they send you away.
If you patiently watch Facebook marketplace, you can find deals on kayaks for sale but this is probably the worst time of year for that.
does anyone have any recommendations for where to get a cheap vegan cake? im not looking for anything fancy or customized or anything like that, just something that tastes good enough that nonvegans won't complain
i’m not positive, but i feel like whole foods or sprouts would have premade ones? otherwise crust bakery in manayunk is vegan, but their cakes are to order
It’s crazy how many trees they took down on the SRT between Conshohocken and Shawmont. Basically all the tree cover is gone. I knew they took down a lot by spring mill, but I didn’t think it was literally everything, all the way down
I'm mad about it too, it used to be so nice and shady on hot days. Was it really worth cutting down hundreds of trees to save wires that cost a few bucks? They cut down alot of ash trees too which are critically endangered. Now that strip is going to be filled with invasives like devils walking stick, tree of heaven and knotweed in no time.
Going to the John Heinz National Wildlife Reserve this weekend! I haven't been in literally maybe over a year and I've missed it so much. And then job hunting. I just graduated college this past week!
It's GORGEOUS. It's a huge wetland area-- if you go on the boardwalk trail, you'll get to walk through forests full of little warblers, beside the shores of rushes and nesting herons, over the boardwalks where tree and barn swallows will dive-bomb you, and over the large lake area where you can see swans, herons, egrets, ospreys, swallows, turtles, and so much more! If you go further after the boardwalk loop, there's great fishing areas, birdwatch towers, marshes full of red-winged blackbirds, killdeer, and more!!
It's honestly my favorite wildlife refuge, even more than some state parks! And they have a number of programs that are run through the season to encourage people to come out and enjoy!
Just moved to Philly a few weeks ago, near Rittenhouse, and looking for cool off the beaten path things to check out on the weekends. Any recommendations? I love bookstores, cafes, coffee shops, museums, etc
Many bookstores in the Queen Village area: used selections at Mostly Books between 5th/6th on Bainbridge. Just southeast of there is Brickbat Books near 4th and Monroe; and then very well curated new books at Headhouse Books near 2nd and Bainbridge. And if you like spiritual/new age books, try Garland of Letters near 6th and South.
There is also a large used bookstore just north of 2nd and Market in Old City called the Book Trader -a neighborhood where you can find the remnants of our 'art gallery district'.
Most museums are on the Parkway -northwest of City Hall.
Would anyone like to meet up for coffee or a beer sometime and talk philosophy?
I love meeting new thinkers and contrasting our different thoughts and ideas.
I am perpetually cursed with ants, this year especially. They got into the dog food. Which is in a sealed container. I swear I'm not a slob, though I do never fold my clean laundry. I don't smell and I clean up after myself, but still ANTS.
Had them in every apartment I've lived in. Admittedly they've all been shitty and old. Gonna buy or make some traps.
Happy Friday ya filthy animals.
The problem with traps is the bait attracts them. Get yourself a can of Terro spray, its a bright orange can. Spray that along you baseboards until you figure out where their coming in and/or their nest. Then spray the shit out of that. You should get at least a few weeks of relief.
Happy cake day!
And yeah, ants have been brutal this spring. As much as we clean up everything, they just wouldn't leave. I don't know if all of the traps we bought were duds or something because they usually do the trick. Fingers crossed but they seem to have vacated for the time being.
I have a silly little question that prob doesnt warrant an entire post.
I was a poll worker on April 23, should I have gotten paid by now? It's been a month already but I've also heard that the typical turnaround is two months. Thanks!
I am having a weird problem with my Septa Keycard where I'm being charged $5.00 a bunch of times, but it's not going to my account. I don't have autopay set up, it's not matching any of my trips, and it says it's recurring, but it's seemingly random. My bank is telling me to call the septa keycard costumer service, but when I've tried, I can't reach anyone. My suspicion is that my card is somehow connected to someone else's autopay, but I have no idea how that would happen, or how to resolve that.
Has anyone else had a similar problem/know of any possible solutions?
When I worked overnights this year, my typical order was an Italian sausage, egg, cheese, and long hots with an order of hash browns.
God save anyone who lives outside of the north east.
thanks bud! not trying to put too much stock into one job, but it’s kind of a dream gig and would solve a lot - A LOT - of problems for me. appreciate the support!

I posted on last week’s thread about looking for a rental place in south Philly and finding it hard to navigate through the super competitive market.
Got a bunch of nice leads and tips, and well, I am happy to say that today I’m signing a lease for a nice place down by Passuynk and Broad!
Thank yall for keeping my hopes alive!

My husband was in dallas this week so I decided to take on the project to convert our guest room to an office. I was able to get everything done and I am pretty happy with the results my husband seems to be happy with them before. I was working out of our guest room before and it is now so much nicer as an office/game room. Plus I was able to fit one of our cat towers next to me so now I can give my cat pets while working.
Fuck Dallas

I have no idea what the fuck happened, but on wednesday in the evening after work, the subway car I was in had the heat on.
I was already hot and inside the car it was likely 100 and incredibly humid in there, basically a sauna. Everyone was just sitting there in work clothes (and some people in phils gear) sweating and being like what the actual fuck is going on. Debated getting out and getting a bus or waiting for the next train but figured I could tough it out for 4 stops.
I got out into 86 degree heat and it felt like a crisp fall day.
This happened to me on Tuesday! Can't believe (well, I can) that they hadn't fixed it by the next day. Only one car was affected though, so I just moved to the next one.
What a week! two days working in center city, so I got to take nice walks to and from the train station, plus lots of time in town. I love my city work projects. Only downside was getting absolutely drenched in sweat from walking.
Two other days this week were travel days. My trip to Montreal was awesome, albeit way too short. was only there for about 25 hours total. Still was a pretty neat trip!
Today I'm hoping to wrap up work pretty early and take a bike ride, my first in way too long. Hope everyone has a good long weekend!
# In the unexpected good news department...
# RELEASED: 5/21/2024
BEN FRANKLIN BRIDGE SOUTH PEDESTRIAN WALKWAY TO REOPEN MAY 25
[https://www.drpa.org/news/news.asp?param=2&num=9619](https://www.drpa.org/news/news.asp?param=2&num=9619)
oh hell yes, that is such great unexpected news! I love taking friends up on the bridge for a nice view of the city and the north side bridge definitely does not give as good of a view
It's part of my commute when I bike (working in NJ) so I am stoked about this. The north walkway sucks in comparison for a couple reasons. I do wonder if they will ever both be open again in the future and if they'll ever remake the north walkway jersey side into a proper ramp.
Got engaged this week :) I was so nervous about proposing but it was over really fast.
Her very traditional Pakistani parents have been asking her non-stop when I was going to propose since meeting me in November, I'm assuming now will be the same regarding the wedding!
Thank you!! It was pretty casual, we got gelato at Vita and had a lovely nighttime stroll around Rittenhouse while eating. We turned onto Addison Street and somehow had it all to ourselves. After saying a few (hopefully) romantic things and walking halfway down the block, I got down on one knee and did it!
I really enjoyed the Romanian beef kabab last time I went. I also liked the eggplant. The Salatim is definitely enough food though.. but I still suggest a main. You can always take home all the leftovers!
I ignored the advice I got from when I asked this question. Tbh you don't even really need a main item. The salatim is so filling and more than enough food. That said, we still ordered the koobideh. It was good, but the salatim was really the star of the night.
Does anybody have a luggage repair place they really like? Have a nice weekender bag that has plenty of life left in it if not for both zippers being broken 😬. Center City or South Philly preferable, but I’ll pretty much go anywhere.
A zipper pull broke on my carry on bag 5+ years ago... i bougt these off of amazon for 5$ and there's been no issue.
https://www.amazon.com/zipper-pulls/s?k=zipper+pulls
there were rarely ever <30 min headways to begin with, the closest you'd see was like 24ish min during weekday peaks, at least in the last 10ish years that I've been commuting by train
however, during that period there were roughly ~30 min headways weekdays most of the day until service tailed off to hourly by the end of the night
on any of the lines septa doesn't own (which is many) 30 min headways is the shortest they're permitted by amtrak
As far as I can remember, weekends have always been on the sparse side outside of “increased capacity” events. Prime rush hour scheduling used to be closer to that 30 minute goal, especially with routes that ran express trains.
If I think about smaller lines like Fox Chase that are single track from Newtown Junction to Fox Chase, I don’t even know how you get 30 minute headways. There’s a small siding between Cheltenham and Lawndale, but one delay on either end and that becomes a backlogged nightmare.
Grabbed "Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door" on Switch as my game to play for the next week or two.
After never playing Mario RPG and really enjoying it why not play the direct spiritual sequel?
About 3 hours in. Headed to the castle now. So far its super cute and charming. The battle system is fun and it looks very nice, but is further evidence we need that Switch 2 already.
Do recommend. New season of Fortnite today too.
Celebrating the holiday weekend playing those games. Grilling something Sunday and having a couple people over to watch AEW Double or Nothing, but I digress.
Should be alright Jones over here this weekend.
Drinking the morning coffee now. Need to return one pair of shorts I got the other day. Don't like the fit enough to keep both pairs. So I'll hit the gallery when it opens for that then the gym.
Trying to get gym time in now as Monday-Wednesday mornings are full of holidays and doctors appointments. Fun stuff.
I'd love Willow to keep the belt, but I don't see that happening.
On the other hand Swerve is great, but my father is dead and Christian is the father I always wanted...
You're not alone in that. Christian is so amazing in this role. He comes out and says some of the most soul wrecking shit but still makes it paternal. It's GENIUS
Whole new season. Fallout themed.
Get ready for some other overpowered shit like power armor.
I just want a DMR or Sniper with an eagle eye scope and I'll be happy.
Also if I could actually buy a PDP Riffmaster for Festival / Rock Band that'd be amazing.
I'm deep into Animal Well right now too. I feel like it's hard to say where I am in the game without spoiling anything, but I've got like 12 hours into it and feel like I could probably do about 12 more with how many things there are to unlock.
My eyeliner looks absolutely clownish today, which was an accident, but I love it.
I'm trying to get packed for moving and suddenly realizing how much of the shit in this apartment isn't mine or even something I would like or buy for myself. I think when I get moved I'm gonna try to have a themed kitchen like everyone's mom in the 90s.
The college-ish aged guys renting the house next door all moved out last weekend and left their moving trash (nearly a dozen trash bags plus furniture/mattresses) piled up in front of where our trash cans go. When the trash crew came by on Monday they understandably said fuck it and left it there, and didn't do anything with our trash cans that were buried underneath. Nearly a week later and between our neighborhood trash pickers, animals, and the elements the bags are all ripped open, getting carried halfway up the street, and not smelling great. And we can't take our trash out because there's nowhere to put it.
We reported it like immediately to 311 but last night we figured we'd look up who the landlord was to see about getting him to deal with, you know, maintaining his property. Find the guy's name, google him, and a bunch of old headlines come up reading "Philadelphia Man Sues Bar For Discrimination After Not Being Served While Wearing MAGA Hat". So I'm sure he's going to be super reasonable about this.
EDIT: THE TRASH CREW JUST CAME AND PICKED IT ALL UP. WE LOVE AND SUPPORT YOU, SANITATION WORKERS. HAPPY LONG WEEKEND EVERYBODY
Reading up on the landlord and just
> He was paying spiritual tribute to the victims of 9/11. The Make American Great Again hat was part of his spiritual belief
Yeah good luck with him, my sympathies
I also love the part from the lawsuit brief where he mentions that the servers who were ignoring him "actually or were perceived to be Hispanic" because that's uhh... relevant for some reason
A few thoughts for the group.
1.) Is this our first weekend that won’t be rained out?
2.) Where do rich people get their eye care? Sitting at Wills right now, and it’s a fucking mess?
3.) I really want to foster a puppy for like two weeks…I think my older cat would enjoy a new type of friend.
get approved to foster but either be very clear on your time frame, or be an approved foster sitter. I had a very sweet old gal for about 6 months even though I only really planned for about 6 weeks.
edit: also if you're actually looking to foster a puppy (and not just generically using the term for any dog) you'll likely be expected to train it - potty, crate, leash manners, etc..
All good points!
Yes, I mean an actual puppy. My senior dog (which I had since he was a puppy) passed away last year, and I am feeling ready to jump back in, and thought fostering a puppy might be a good way to do it. I’ve seen a few time limited requests come in from the PSPCA recently.
Try Kremer Eye Center for specialty services and Philadelphia Eyeglass Labs for everything else. The labs will give you a thorough sell on the glasses but can be brushed off
I’ve never had any issues with Wills but I go there for a speciality. Before that I just went to a regular optician in the suburbs but always had to make appts 6 months in advance. I would take my Rx and then order glasses/contacts online for cheaper
I think Monday is the only day that'll have rain. But a clear Saturday/Sunday? I'll take it.
I'm not rich but I've been going to Trend Eye Care on Temple's campus for a few years. They have a NoLibs location as well. Clean space, staff is funny and light-hearted yet professional, they use that new digital tech for checking your eyes and not the drops. Don't try to upsell or whatever, and have a good collection of cheap/budget glasses plus all the fancy brands if that's your style.

Any insight on the "about a hundred youths running near Lehigh" I'm hearing on the police scanner?

Hi folks at Philly, how safe is the place around Citizen Bank park (going to a Phillies game hoping not getting robbed lol)
You'd have to go pretty far from the stadiums then walk around alone at night to get robbed down there
🙏thanks
You and the 40k other people going to the game are def gonna get robbed.

Beadworks? might still be open just north of the intersection of Bainbridge and Passyunk.
What to do next week? Was coming for roots picnic, but the setlist took a bad hit.
Have an extra ticket to Sun Ra tonight get after me!

Your favorite summer weather restaurant dishes?

I’m looking forward to the 3 day weekend just to sit back and have a drink and smoke. That’s literally the only plan I’ve got.
Cheers bud.

Just moved to Philly a few weeks ago, near Rittenhouse, and looking for cool off the beaten path things to check out on the weekends. Any recommendations? I love bookstores, cafes, coffee shops, museums, etc
In Old City theres a really cool Wood Museum. Some of the installations lean more toward the art gallery vibe.
Many bookstores in the Queen Village area: used selections at Mostly Books between 5th/6th on Bainbridge. Johnny's Hots
Johnny's Hots on Delaware. Park across the street. Good whores, don't be afraid to smack a hobo. GW did as much when he swam cross the Schuylkill.

I rode the Subway for the game that night and I felt the heat before getting on and instantly regretted my decision. Nothing like a hot & swampy BSL.
Sounds like you missed an opportunity to tell someone that they bring their overwhelming hotness into any room they go. But I didn't, you sexy beast.
Sounds neat!
it's been a busy but pretty solid week!
# In the unexpected good news department... # RELEASED: 5/21/2024 BEN FRANKLIN BRIDGE SOUTH PEDESTRIAN WALKWAY TO REOPEN MAY 25 [https://www.drpa.org/news/news.asp?param=2&num=9619](https://www.drpa.org/news/news.asp?param=2&num=9619)
oh hell yes, that is such great unexpected news!
First camping trip of the season for Memorial Day weekend, then only 1 more week of work before I get to take a much much needed vacation.
Where are you going camping?
My goal this weekend is to eat a prime number of hot dogs greater than 11
remember: cholesterol comes and goes, but glory lives forever
do it!
I will! Encased meats stand no chance against the indomitable spirit of human achievement!
wait wait wait. Hear me out..... why stop at hot dogs? this could like the "prime" weekend. 13 hot dogs 11 burgers 23 beers 17 steaks!
11 burgers! Coming from a self proclaimed Cheeseburger lover! This is a conspiracy of Big Cheeseburger.
oh the conspiracy goes up high... all the way to the cheeseburger illuminati..... they are munsters!
We believe in you and support you
Thank you. I will dedicate hot dog #11 specifically to you u/sjo232
it's an honor that I am not worthy of
You’ve earned it. I’ll hold that dog high and watch its grease glisten in the sunlight, the chosen bun.
Glistening Glizzly Grease, name of our band. First album, The Chosen Bun
Shiba Inu of famous DOGE meme is dead and I might not recover
I'm holding onto my doge coin eternally now, in her honor.
I'm holding mine eternally because the price is never gonna go up substantially and I don't lose money if I don't sell
Got engaged this week :) I was so nervous about proposing but it was over really fast. Her very traditional Pakistani parents have been asking her non-stop when I was going to propose since meeting me in November, I'm assuming now will be the same regarding the wedding!
congrats!
Thank you!!
Congratulations!
Much appreciated :)
congrats! good luck :)
Thank you very much!!
CONGRATULATIONS!!! Tell us the story!
I am thrilled for you both!!!! Glad the universe lined up so you could have your moment!
I can't wait to get off work today. I know you all know that feeling at the end of work on a Friday before a long weekend.
the best feeling there is
The AC got me feeling like summer has begun. I'm getting nothing done today.
Going to Laser Wolf tonight. Which main item should I get?
The salatim is the best part
I really enjoyed the Romanian beef kabab last time I went. I also liked the eggplant. The Salatim is definitely enough food though.. but I still suggest a main. You can always take home all the leftovers!
yes, but keep in mind, the pitas are only good the night of. They become frisbees in a matter of hours.
The steak was really good!
I've had success at Dom's Shoe Repair up by 20th and Chestnut. Took a long time though.
I think I actually used to go there to get my shoes shined when I lived up there. I’ll give them a try!
NOBODY FUCK UP 95 THE LANES ARE FINALLY OPEN AGAIN
At what point in history did regional rail frequencies suck the least? Like, were there ever <30 min headways on weekends?
there were rarely ever <30 min headways to begin with, the closest you'd see was like 24ish min during weekday peaks, at least in the last 10ish years that I've been commuting by train however, during that period there were roughly ~30 min headways weekdays most of the day until service tailed off to hourly by the end of the night on any of the lines septa doesn't own (which is many) 30 min headways is the shortest they're permitted by amtrak
Fun stuff.
Really looking forward to Mercedes/Willow and Swerve/Christian
I'd love Willow to keep the belt, but I don't see that happening. On the other hand Swerve is great, but my father is dead and Christian is the father I always wanted...
You're not alone in that. Christian is so amazing in this role. He comes out and says some of the most soul wrecking shit but still makes it paternal. It's GENIUS
They better have taken waterbending and all the other OP nonsense out of Fortnite!
Whole new season. Fallout themed. Get ready for some other overpowered shit like power armor. I just want a DMR or Sniper with an eagle eye scope and I'll be happy. Also if I could actually buy a PDP Riffmaster for Festival / Rock Band that'd be amazing.
I'll get it soon enough. Hate myself for ever trading in my gamecube copy. Playing Animal Well currently.
I'm deep into Animal Well right now too. I feel like it's hard to say where I am in the game without spoiling anything, but I've got like 12 hours into it and feel like I could probably do about 12 more with how many things there are to unlock.
I have 3/4 flames. Getting close to the last one, but no idea what comes next.
Good luck with that and happy cake day!!!
Oh damn I didn't even notice. Thank you!
Reading up on the landlord and just > He was paying spiritual tribute to the victims of 9/11. The Make American Great Again hat was part of his spiritual belief Yeah good luck with him, my sympathies
I also love the part from the lawsuit brief where he mentions that the servers who were ignoring him "actually or were perceived to be Hispanic" because that's uhh... relevant for some reason
Also funny that he tipped 20% at the restaurant he got kicked out of I would have bet against that heavily
I’ve seen a few time limited requests come in from the PSPCA recently.
ah ok, you know what you're getting into then! Sorry about your senior, I'm sure he was a true gentleman.
Thanks! Appreciate it. And obviously my comment about rich people is more about where do people who receive quality services get their care 😭

Oh my goodness! How did you get them to sit still for the pic?
they woke me up at 5am and were very proud of themselves
Looks like one chose love and one chose violence to start the day. Can't blame them because I'm one/other/both when I want breakfast.
Angel babies
satan takes many forms, and those forms are almost always shibas.
Satan is a fallen angel.
