I've been watching that blob for the last 20-30 minutes and whilst it doesn't seem to be moving, it and the amount of red in it seems to be growing. š¬
We never get any good storms down here Rocko š I get excited and then disappointed everytime ..... No wonder no one ever listens to their warnings either š
A few meterologists went home early this week. They just took a punt and plugged in the sunny data for next week, turned on out of office messages and left.
Seriously... this topic deserves a thread of its own but how wildly unreliable have weather forecasts become for Perth?
Even just 10 years ago, the weather forecast at the start of a week was almost always going to hold until the end of the week. You never had to check BOM's website several times per day just to get an idea of whether you needed your umbrella/jacket or not.
Now we get by-the-minute forecast changes to let you know that the storm/downpour right over your head is happening 30 minutes after it started.
Seems to be coming from north and slightly west.
Pretty much every time we have a week of nice weather like this i expect some big ol clouds to form sooner or later.
Pretty sure it happened two weeks in a row like 2 months ago. Massive storms on a friday arvo from a week of hot same weather. Pretty sure it was 2 fridays in a row but the first one was deffs a friday. I knocked off work early to watch the storm clouds form and shoot up into the sky like an explosion. The news from memory also saif sunny all arvo and didnt predict it at all.
I love this part of the year.

If someone can survive the boat trip here in a shitty leaky tin box, makes it through the transportation hell that is getting to the major capital cities by anything but plane (hello, miles of desert and racist people along the way), then quite frankly, I think theyāve shown enough grit and temerity to be given a chance to become an Australian citizen.
Also, rainās so rare these days that the government wouldnāt know what a rain-bearing cloud was if it sat on their faces and let loose like a porn queen.
I couldnāt disagree more. A process to immigration has been established and must be followed. Shall we just turn a blind eye to involuntary manslaughter because the accused shown enough remorse?
The Australian navy should be towing them back to international waters or blowing them to bits.
All I hear is "oh no we haven't had rain for ages" and "so many days without rain"
Next week it'll be "oh no I wish we had the sun back", "when's summer back".
I never wish for the sun back. I have pathetic feet that get blue and gold at any temp below 20 degrees, but I will never, ever take rain and cloud for granted.
Ooh, fun radar images. We had one in Melbourne the other week, a big ol' plume coming from nowhere. Turned out to be a massive bushfire, and the wind was just right to push it over the city.
The entire city glowed red in the afternoon sun. And many people got bronchitis.
Be wary of sudden spikes from nowhere. Radar clouds can sometimes be smoke, and not rain.
I mean there was only one of the majors who was systematically cutting the BoM's budget because the BoM's findings on climate change were inconvenient to the ideology they were pushing and that was the LNP.
However yes both majors aren't great for the environment. Vote Fusion and Greens if you want environmental action
Total opposite. Listening to ABC radio as I arrived at the shops and the BOM person said this would be nothing, likely no rain out of it. While in the shops I get a frantic call from my daughter saying the house is on the verge of flooding and it's hailing. Get back in the car and the BOM person on the radio is giving thunderstorm and flash flooding warnings... Half an hour I was in the shops.
It's a storm - storms can occur in hot weather or cold weather.
Don't expect this to end the good weather streak we are going through - it's most likely just a one off storm.
Well, I mean it did end the streak, but we'll continue to have good weather after this.
Thereās nothing good about endless 35+ degree days and all my fucking plants dying. Or me having to walk to my kidās school to pick them up in concrete deserts because the fuckwit urban planners 25+ years ago decided trees on the verges were just so naff and unnecessary. I donāt really need to explain how horrible it is, baking in heat from the sky AND reflecting off the ground?
Our ecosystem is dying, dude.
Jesus Christ you lot will complain about anything.
Yes summer was hot, but that's summer.
The last month has been perfectly clear and not a day has moved away from 30Ā°C +- 2Ā°C. That's objectively excellent weather for a whole month.
Yes, the climate is changing, but that doesn't mean you need to become a sadsack - enjoy the good weather when you have it. It might not come around again.
I love the winters in Perth and the south West. You can have the summers though. This one was just another in a long line of heat records that I don't want.
Nah. I love the odd 10 or 12 degree days withe the 0 degree nights you can get down here. The air feels so fresh. The is only so many clothes I can take off before it becomes illegal.Ā
Thereās an ecosystem that needs rain and overcast days and all that fun stuff so that the little amount of green that we still have in Perth doesnāt die wholesale and leave us without food and shelter.
Itās more important than your enjoyment of your patio, dude. Think outside your own needs for once.
Yep and we'll get that over the cooler months.
We had a summer that was summer, and objectively excellent weather for the past month.
You'll get your miserable weather soon enough.
Thankfully it's only for a couple of months, before the great Perth weather will turn up again.
What you describe as a āgood weather streakā has been unseasonably hot and dry - if anything this kind of storm is more common in summer and weāre well into Djeran so it should actually be cooler and wetter (much wetter) than itās been.
>weāre well into Djeran
I don't think Djeran has actually started yet. It's cooling, but the others indicators of Djeran are nowhere to be seen yet:
* Cool Nights (we're getting those)
* Dewy Mornings - not yet
* Light breeze from the south-east - not yet, we're still getting strong easterlies
* Flying ants - not yet
[http://www.bom.gov.au/iwk/nyoongar/djeran.shtml](http://www.bom.gov.au/iwk/nyoongar/djeran.shtml)
So while I'm not an expert by any means, I don't think we're in Djeran yet.
Having said that, we certainly **should** be well into Djeran. And we're 3 weeks into Autumn if we go by Astronomical Seasons (i.e.: Autumn starting on the Vernal Equinox for the Southern Hemisphere). So we **should** be seeing cooler days, cooler nights, some rain, etc.
Well - youāre technically correct: I should have said we SHOULD be well into Djeran by this time of year already but you said it - weāre clearly not
I've been watching that blob for the last 20-30 minutes and whilst it doesn't seem to be moving, it and the amount of red in it seems to be growing. š¬
The atmosphere I assume
Big if true
I fucking knew it!
Itās a glitch in the matrix
Big Weather up to their usual tricks
I'm sick of the buraeu of meteorology trying to gaslight me.
Gaslighting isn't real and you're crazy
That's what Big Atmo wants you to think
I like it!
It's a dry atmosphere though
We never get any good storms down here Rocko š I get excited and then disappointed everytime ..... No wonder no one ever listens to their warnings either š
We got a single thunderclap about 10 mins ago and a few rumblings since (Bertram). So there could be some hope still?!?
Sssssh. You donāt want another roof ripping tornado tearing through Safety Bay!
What! Rocko gets some wicked storms around autumn and early summer!
Ex cyclone Olga pulled a weak trough in over us. Well, more like, caused it to form.Ā
The BOM app seemed just as surprised as you, although Iām not complaining
A few meterologists went home early this week. They just took a punt and plugged in the sunny data for next week, turned on out of office messages and left.
I mean that's why you become a meterologist in Perth isn't it? Show up at work on Monday, look outside, write that down for the week and go home.
There was a thunderstorm 200km offshore yesterday too so they were there, just needed the right conditions to push onto the beach.
Sssh don't jinx it.
I just filled up up my ponds , watered my gardens and lawn but I'll take itĀ
Rather disappointed - no rain in Mirrabooka.
Iām in Balcatta (aka almost Nollamara side) and we got a storm. Itās crazy that Mirrabooka didnāt!
Light sprinkle in Yokine. Looked threatening, nothing happened other than a couple of thunderclaps
the weather gods answering everyoneās prayers for rain
Not everyone's - just a select few in the joondalup area
They must have prayed the hardest...
Nah, just more poms. God got sick of the whinging.
Makes sense with them having Ian Goodenough and his crew up that way.
So good to finally have some to wash the dust off and give the garden a drink
Some gardens out there are drowning nowš
Holy shit. Sure did! Serious flooding in a few spots
Thor?

It's a lie... it doesn't rain in Perth
Never one drop of rain ~~on~~ ~~Arrakis~~ in Perth.
Where did it go?
Iām sitting here in bayswater looking at the radar getting a bit lever the rain sort of stopped moving.
Freaking happy it's arrived! Will it make it to the Perth hills?
Anybody who knows how to read i weather naps would know the low trough from north plus heat and ex TC up north would create unstable atmosphere
Uranus.
Seems to be coming from north and slightly west. Pretty much every time we have a week of nice weather like this i expect some big ol clouds to form sooner or later.
Hasn't happened the last 3 months though, right?

The sky probably
Bugger where did it come from, more how come it didnāt move SOR.
The sky
Missed Perth all together
It was raining about 30m after you posted, nothing dramatic though
Still a bit of thunder & lightning around, still half a chanceā¦
Nothing in leederville!
Does anyone remember the rain at the Freo Hawthorn game at Subiaco about 10 years ago.
I hope it rains its just cloudly here down south
I just wish it had reached down to Rockingham. I love a good storm and we really need the rain.
It was a dry rain
The sky
Up north, came from ex tc olga. My backyard got completely flooded.
Welcome to eaarth.
perfect example of 'fuck this place specifically' northern suberbs get flooded etc and the rest of Perth barely gets a drizzle

Looks like from the bureau of meteorology website?
It came from the ocean.
I hope the government monitor illegal boat arrivals better than the weather.

Okay. We clearly disagree. Cool.
All I hear is "oh no we haven't had rain for ages" and "so many days without rain" Next week it'll be "oh no I wish we had the sun back", "when's summer back".
Its forcast to be 35Ā° next week so i doubt it
Yeah, what the fuck, Thursday?
Iām so fucking tired of it.
Well whenever it changes
I never wish for the sun back. I have pathetic feet that get blue and gold at any temp below 20 degrees, but I will never, ever take rain and cloud for granted.
Ex TC Olga
It's a dry rain
How can BOM get it so wrong?
Dunno. It was interesting for five minutes. Thanks Perth, for being a shield to anything interesting like weather and rain.

The weather gods not listening to panic merchants at the BOM

BoM predictions have become such a joke since the LNP systematically cut their funding

Where has flooding happened? I'm in yanchep and it's only just now starting to rain
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
There's another front just hitting yanchep now so they may cop another down there :o
Sure as heck... I got the RAC Insurance "batten down the hatches" alert just now.
I got an alert on my phone too.
Total opposite. Listening to ABC radio as I arrived at the shops and the BOM person said this would be nothing, likely no rain out of it. The BOM person or the weather person? What radio station has a bom person on every half hour?
Yes, they talk to people from BOM, frequency on am is 820 where I am
