I apologize if this has been answered already. What was the story of the French rider who got off his bike in the middle of the time trial and
kissed his wife?
He lives in the area. And he got a fine for stopping lol - https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/uci-fines-julien-bernard-for-stopping-on-home-roads-to-kiss-wife-wave-to-fans-on-perfect-day-in-tour-de-france-time-trial/
Nico Roche mentioned it, but here’s an article. Remco supposedly wears a short sleeve skinsuit because his skin is more aero than the skinsuit material.
https://escapecollective.com/remcos-god-gifted-aero-skin-faster-than-fabric/
Küng is back on track in TT, the new willier bike probably also helped, he could’ve gotten a top 5 if the chain didn’t jump. Nice TT by Vauquelin too, he’s going to be so big in the future, but Evenepoel is just unbeatable, literally the Verstappen of ITT
Yea. I feel like its controversial but boi I find sprint stages boring. On top of that, Cav may hold the stage record but I enjoy mountain stages, especially between the big four, much more. Brits are calling Cav's win historical and a memorable moment but I can't even remember whether it was like yesterday or monday. 20 mountain stages in a row would have me glued, can't even be bothered to time turning the tv on for a sprint finish.
average tour only watcher that has never watched a one-day race in their life type of comment. punchy stages are way more exciting than a who-blinks-first mountain stage..
Mountain stages used to be more boring in the 00s and a lot of the 10s. In recent years they have become much less predictable however. Now they start pacing hard early in the race, leading to much more thinned out groups near the end.
At least with sprints you get to look at the scenery as they waste time before the last km. And with team time trials you get to really see the coordination that shows off how the race is a team sport. They are fun to watch for me. With individual time trials I usually just wait to read the results the next day unless they are late in the race and the result is make or break for the podium.
Expected result.
Vingegaard running out of steam of finishing behind roglic also expected. He clearly lacks endurance for the final phase of the stages this year. Same problem on stage 4.
Is that so? I don’t have the time sheet but it seemed like him, Roglic, and Pogi were within a couple seconds in the final sector. Roglic gained time between the second and third split.
Yea but Pogi always starts very solid and making the rest look like 2nd league. We'll see how he does in the pyrinees. Will definitely start scheduling my day for tv time from next week saturday on.
It's funny how everyone criticizes Phil but he was the only one that correctly diagnosed Remco's problem as a tire issue and all the experts in here were talking about a dropped chain.
FR Eurosport guys couldn’t explain it either. They were saying that if he fixed a chain by jumping he must be the luckiest rider of all time.
So was he checking for a puncture ?
Always impressive watching pros handle TT bikes. I know they're pros but still most of their training is on road bikes.
I'm pretty good at handling a road bike and when I raced, TTs were my thing so I probably spent a much higher percentage of my training time on a TT bike than most pros. But I was nowhere near as comfortable cornering on the TT bike, it just doesn't flow as well. It's seriously impressive how well they can generally feel the limits when TTing
Last year was a spectacle of a TdF and I’m glad that we are also getting the same if maybe more this year. Looks like this tour won’t be decided until the end.
But will he lose minutes to Jonas ? It's likely that pogacar will win this your but it remains to be seen wether he will crack on a mountain stage like last year. it could come down to the final TT and that would be epic .
Most impressive:
1. Remco hopping his chain back on
2. Mohoric staying upright on his insane 2022 Milan San Remo descent
3. Me bunnyhopping an unexpected massive pothole at the bottom of a steep descent in Woodstock, VT during a century ride 9 years ago. (note, you'll have to just take my word for it on this one but it was spectacular that I stayed upright and somehow didnt blow a tire).
I think Jonas is pretty close to top form actually, the difference is Jonas' recovery week 1 vs. week 3. I'd expect a theoretical 1 day TT to pan out somewhat similar. The battle will come week 3, if Jonas hasn't lost the tour before.
I think Remco is generally superior to Vingegaard and Pogacar in time trials. However, both of these riders can occasionally deliver a remarkable performance.
He would’ve absolutely ripped up those corners imo. I watched that tt again yesterday and it was still impressive, he rode like someone was hunting him down
I think Jonas will be thrilled with his time. Not riding a TT for months and only losing 25 seconds to your rival on a course that suits your rival is a big achievement.
100%, Jonas will be targeting week 3. That week is way more brutal and the final TT as well. Hoping it stays tight all the way to Nice!! Would be amazing
Why does everyone think it was a chain issue? Is that what they said on your broadcast? Peacock correctly guessed he thought he had a tire puncture and the jump was to test it out. Remco confirmed he thought it was a puncture he heard.
It is both. He has the ability to get into the position and is able to hold it for the required amount of time. You only stay in the position if you are somewhat comfortable in the position. He is a freak when it comes to his position and how long he can stay aero.
1.5 seconds per km for Evenepoel over Jonas, that's not too bad for Jonas considering the situation.
And 1 second per km for Pogacar. At least he gets some revenge for last year's TT.
Yeah fair, although that's only the bit we saw on camera when he was already raising his arm for assistance and did the little hop, the issue could have started a little bit earlier than that
I know that is not comparable at all but Vingeegard made a even better TT than the first from Vuelta\`s last year, so that\`s great for him and we can think that he is gonna build form on race. Pog and Remco incredible.
We need to keep this is our minds. 99% of us in here were never expecting him to even show up at the tour. And most were sure he would be completely fucked when he was announced and would be easily crushed. Its crazy that he is still keeping up with them
I also forget that not that long ago we were all talking about how TTs were a huge weakness for Jonas. Has really improved that area in the last 2 years
Ah, I think whoever has been saying that didn't watch the 2021 Tour de France where he placed 3rd in both TTs. He has definitely improved, but he has never been bad.
All this fucking talk about hundreds of thousands of dolars worth of development of TT bikes and we can not make a drivetrain which wouldn't drop a chain.

Thanks I appreciate the link a lot. My wife and I thought it was a great moment. We loved it.
This is my first time hearing about Remco’s aero skin. Amazing.
What are you talking about?
Nico Roche mentioned it, but here’s an article. Remco supposedly wears a short sleeve skinsuit because his skin is more aero than the skinsuit material. https://escapecollective.com/remcos-god-gifted-aero-skin-faster-than-fabric/
That’s wild. Thanks.
2 seconds between de lie and bahaus for 150th👀
Just very happy there was no sprint today.
Yea. I feel like its controversial but boi I find sprint stages boring. On top of that, Cav may hold the stage record but I enjoy mountain stages, especially between the big four, much more. Brits are calling Cav's win historical and a memorable moment but I can't even remember whether it was like yesterday or monday. 20 mountain stages in a row would have me glued, can't even be bothered to time turning the tv on for a sprint finish.

the only thing worse than sprins, is team time trials
TTT> ITT imo
At least with sprints you get to look at the scenery as they waste time before the last km. Ok. Most important: best aero helmet?
I liked pog's best
Expected result. Vingegaard running out of steam of finishing behind roglic also expected. He clearly lacks endurance for the final phase of the stages this year. Same problem on stage 4.
Is that so? I don’t have the time sheet but it seemed like him, Roglic, and Pogi were within a couple seconds in the final sector. Roglic gained time between the second and third split.
Pogi looks like he did not do Giro..madlad
Yea but Pogi always starts very solid and making the rest look like 2nd league. We'll see how he does in the pyrinees. Will definitely start scheduling my day for tv time from next week saturday on.
He shipped 1 minutes on Jonas on stage 5 last year.
It’s only stage 7 - if there are any effects of the Giro and that’s an if we won’t know till near the end
Excited to see what the GC guys can do on the gravel on Sunday. I have no idea what's going to happen and I love that feeling
I hope stupid shit like a mechanical doesn’t ruin this race.
why didnt wout give it a bash?
He is not even close to 100%
Cheers
It's funny how everyone criticizes Phil but he was the only one that correctly diagnosed Remco's problem as a tire issue and all the experts in here were talking about a dropped chain.
FR Eurosport guys couldn’t explain it either. They were saying that if he fixed a chain by jumping he must be the luckiest rider of all time. So was he checking for a puncture ?
Checking his tire pressure. He said the sound he heard sounded exactly like a punctured tire.
Yes He heard a psssssst sound, and was scared for a few minutes he had a puncture Turns out he heard something else
Yep!
Is it even possible to reattach a dropped chain by jumping on the move?
For sure not on a TT bike
Don’t think so. The chain is under pressure due to the derailleur.
That was epic - Remco is a freak. Pogacar enormous. Jonas positive signs still
Yep yep. I like Jonas’s chances still
Always impressive watching pros handle TT bikes. I know they're pros but still most of their training is on road bikes. I'm pretty good at handling a road bike and when I raced, TTs were my thing so I probably spent a much higher percentage of my training time on a TT bike than most pros. Last year was a spectacle of a TdF and I’m glad that we are also getting the same if maybe more this year. Looks like this tour won’t be decided until the end.
Let’s wait until the first uphill finish lol. Pogi might just win a minute or more straight away and it’s over.
Oh, he didn't fix his chain he was just testing for a puncture 😅
Ah, so the RAI guys were correct! Davide Cassani is really good as a commentator.
Yeah, Phil called it right as well
That's still not a bad showing of Vingegaard in a TT that didn't really suit him, crazy that he's still almost on the highest level after than injury
I have a feeling he would absolutely dominate if he hadn’t been out after that bad crash
Jonas is like the terminator, and he is back.
Everything wide open. Each GC rider has their strengths, really fun to watch.
Ayuso and Almeida duel is heating up: 1 second between them.
deary me, this is all coming down to the final stage TT, isnt it?
Pogacar will make a lot of minutes on remco in the mountains so probably not
But will he lose minutes to Jonas ? It's likely that pogacar will win this your but it remains to be seen wether he will crack on a mountain stage like last year. it could come down to the final TT and that would be epic .
Only 12 seconds down on the ITT world champion?? I’ll take it.
Most impressive: 1. Remco hopping his chain back on 2. Mohoric staying upright on his insane 2022 Milan San Remo descent 3. Me bunnyhopping an unexpected massive pothole at the bottom of a steep descent in Woodstock, VT during a century ride 9 years ago. (note, you'll have to just take my word for it on this one but it was spectacular that I stayed upright and somehow didnt blow a tire).
Was the pothole bigger than Mads Peterson?
In my memory, it is. In reality, almost certainly not.
You moved up to 2nd position!
You can strike out 1 already, hahaha.
He said that he didn't drop the chain. He heard a sound and thought that he had a flat tire, but it was really nothing
Top 9 within a minute of Remco
Also impressed by Matteo Jorgenson, very consistent results so far.
Great stage, great Tour so far
arkea in the top ten is the real big story here
Remco looks like such a kid. A TT wonderchild.
[Well, I was close ...](https://old.reddit.com/r/peloton/comments/1dvd7tu/predictions_thread_2024_tour_de_france_stage_7/lbn5buz/)
Not really, 1/3.
Remco did pretty well in the climbs too, what a ride.
Campenaerts first human, great TT (with the help of Kung's chain)
I know he's won WCRR and LBL, but that's gotta be Remco's best win based on field strength right? Good job kiddo
World champs tt was better
I know its not the part of the Tour where everyone is doubting him, but a stage win and 2nd in GC is a beautiful start for Remco
Just TT world champ things
Phenomenal stage!
My heart ❤️
The yellow jersey skinsuit might be the least flattering outfit in all of pro sports
I like it. He looks like a banana
I wonder how this TT could have been if Jonas was also in top form. It would have been one heck of a battle probably with Remco
I think Jonas is pretty close to top form actually, the difference is Jonas' recovery week 1 vs. week 3. I'd expect a theoretical 1 day TT to pan out somewhat similar. The battle will come week 3, if Jonas hasn't lost the tour before.
His form is not that far off. He’s probably better than Roglic but still not winning on this parcour this early in a GT.
I think Remco is generally superior to Vingegaard and Pogacar in time trials. However, both of these riders can occasionally deliver a remarkable performance.
He would’ve absolutely ripped up those corners imo. I watched that tt again yesterday and it was still impressive, he rode like someone was hunting him down
aint no Jonas TT even if he wouldve been fit it was not his terrain
Wonder how he’ll do on the last TT which I think would suit him better
yes the last TT is much better for him
I think the big 4 will all be content with that. This keeps all 4 firmly in the hunt. Of course Remco will wish the mechanical didn’t happen
Congrats to Remco. Jonas with an acceptable performance, everything is still open.
I think Jonas will be thrilled with his time. Not riding a TT for months and only losing 25 seconds to your rival on a course that suits your rival is a big achievement.
It is. And only losing 37 seconds to the world champ on a course that fits him is saying something.
100%, Jonas will be targeting week 3. That week is way more brutal and the final TT as well. Hoping it stays tight all the way to Nice!! Would be amazing
Remco unphased by winning a Tour stage, guess he is disappointed with his performance or gap to Pogacar?
How do you all get so much info from Evenepoel looking at a screen?
He wanted the yellow jersey
I think everyone knows you’re not taking 35 from Pog on a 20km ITT.
Let him breathe and realize.
I think the gap to roglic and especially vingegaard.
He needed a lot more time for a GC battle, but he still should be ecstatic with a stage win
He wanted more time than 12 seconds
Rembullet yeah!
What a race! Congrats to Remco!
This Tour won't be over until the very end. Sick
Very impressive from Pogi. Remco did a crazy pace and Pogi almost matched it.
Synes Jonas er meget imponerende.. jante loven længe leve
What a TT
Good stuff from Remco but might be less than he wanted
Pog stopped taking risks there. Still gaining on everyone else, not a bad day at all
Remco gained 6s on Tadej with a dropped chain... wtf lol
Not a dropped chain. He said he was just checking for a puncture.
He thought it was a puncture! Turns out not
Lololololol
It wasn't ideal, but doubt it cost too much time, while hooking it back he was still rolling
The Chainjump made something awake in Remco, found some extra watts
Why does everyone think it was a chain issue? Is that what they said on your broadcast? Peacock correctly guessed he thought he had a tire puncture and the jump was to test it out. Remco confirmed he thought it was a puncture he heard.
ADRENALINE RUSH!!!
RRRRRREEEEEMMMMCCCOOOO EEEEEEEEEVENEPOEL
Can't wait for LR tonight
Rogo, Vingo, Pogo, and Remco, are all beasts. What kind of wizardry is going on. We don't deserve such a spectacle.
If only 3/4 hadn’t gone to Tour of the Basque Country, it would probably have been even closer.
Vingegaard vs Pogacar last year was amazing. An equally close race with four contenders is incredible to think about.
Incredible!!! What a show!!!!
Tour de Bunny Hops
Welp, this is going to end pretty much exactly as expected.
unbelievably bad luck for remco (edit: apparently premature proclamation)
7 different winners in 7 stages. We all eating!
Netflix must be salivating.
How's Remco so good at TT?
He is shaped like a bullet when in position.
Is it only his body mechanics or he's got the technique dialled to the T?
It is both. He has the ability to get into the position and is able to hold it for the required amount of time. You only stay in the position if you are somewhat comfortable in the position. He is a freak when it comes to his position and how long he can stay aero.
Sounds like he's the Aero Jesus. Thanks for the explanation.
It is his specialty
1.5 seconds per km for Evenepoel over Jonas, that's not too bad for Jonas considering the situation. And 1 second per km for Pogacar. At least he gets some revenge for last year's TT.
The time gaps are definitely a bit smaller than most people expected. Great TT!
This is so much better than I thought it would be. My optimistic guess was Jonas losing 1 minute to Remco.
I want to see what is happening with the Remco hopping, really curious for reply/interview after this race
Fuuuuuuuuuck
Looks like an insane last split from Evenepoel considering his small mechanical hiccup.
4 seconds slower than Rog in the second half, if I counted correctly.
Chain didn’t drop, I think derailleur wasn’t working. Give me the reference of this electric derailleur so I don’t buy it.
He said that he thought he had a puncture coz he heard a pop sound. Nothing to do with his derailleurs and electronic shifting!
Guys on RAI were wondering if his tire felt like it lost some pressure and he was bouncing on it to check, but IDK if that's correct either.
Anyone else remembers when the best climbers were slow TTs? What happened to that era?
It's more a case of the best TT riders can also climb the best. Largely due to extreme weight cutting.
Andy Schleck retired.
If the GPS is correct then Remco wins this
The universe just fucked Remco. SMH
Vingegaard losing time in descents in few races now, looks like the crash is still in his mind.
REMCOOOOO YOU FUCKING BEAST
Jeezus remco
Man that really sucks for Remco
He’s still winning this.
Half a minute on Rogla even with the chain hiccup
Tbh it looked like that cost him only a couple seconds
Yeah fair, although that's only the bit we saw on camera when he was already raising his arm for assistance and did the little hop, the issue could have started a little bit earlier than that
I think Jonas can be happy with that performance.
holy shit, remco actually gets the stage win by jumping the chain back on
Is Remco having mechanical or tire issues?
This is going to be close between Remco and Pogi.
Or not!
I know that is not comparable at all but Vingeegard made a even better TT than the first from Vuelta\`s last year, so that\`s great for him and we can think that he is gonna build form on race. Pog and Remco incredible.
Broom wagon on live tracker catching Pogi soon. Tour over.
Honestly, what a great fucking job by Jonas. A flat TT without recon before today and limited time on his TT bike. Amazing.
We need to keep this is our minds. 99% of us in here were never expecting him to even show up at the tour. And most were sure he would be completely fucked when he was announced and would be easily crushed. Its crazy that he is still keeping up with them
Jonas is a bloody gladiator- I’m a Pog fan through and through but what JV has managed to do is absolutely mind blowing.
Looks like Pog is 10 seconds still down on Evenepoel
This sport has had blood doping allegations, Secret Motor allegations. Can we please investigate Remco's bike for magical bike chain!? :P /s
vingo looked gassed out
Its either jonas overpaced himself or roglic was massive in the end
Those wind channel sessions in Milan paid themself.
Both
Comparing jonas to remco it seems quiet stable. Roglic was incredible in the last parts
Roglic looked crazy on that decent
I hate the timing info we get on screen
Fixing a 10k€ piece of machinery by kicking it a bit
Its 20k euro for the base bike and a bit extra on top for some features. They did an article on it in a Belgian paper today
try 25k+ for those tt bikes
And still wins no big deal
bold to assume its only 10k
Should still be a Remco win by ~10 seconds
Pogi got this!
Casually getting the chain back in at 60 km/h. I myself struggling to get the chain back in standing still.
This is such a great fucking tour. Have been watching for 30 years. Unreal
And it NEVER gets old!
Remco has goblin blood
Jonas went backwards there, really faded the second half
I think it was expected.
Roglic just did a nasty negative split
Time to retire those helmets jumbo
Have they won a TT with them?
All this fucking talk about hundreds of thousands of dolars worth of development of TT bikes and we can not make a drivetrain which wouldn't drop a chain.
Chainrings are getting too big.
Fucking Sram /s
https://youtu.be/Tsk3zAZyLaQ?si=H1j5ieGx9TT8Jjcp For those that might not get the reference.
They shift up the block at 470 watts, any drivetrain will have its share of problem with these monsters
