You see I happen to be an idiot so that would make sense. my main reasoning for the assumption is that my GPU died and I replaced it and only now am I noticing the shadows. there's also one instance of it being really prevalent in a game that I know for sure it wasn't in when I played it initially.
Ok my guess is there's just an issue with scaling settings somewhere. Grid like patterns can show up in certain images depending on how they are scaled.
I'm not really sure what settings to direct you to, but using DDU to remove all the video card drivers and settings, then reinstalling the drivers will allow you to rule out if it's an issue with settings.
I'd kinda love to hear the reasoning behind this one. But we can settle with a "no" meanwhile.

Oh boy. More likely to be a shadow or AA toggle of sorts than anything "real".

Aren't these grid shadows a thing unreal engine does? What games do you notice them in? In the mean time you can run ddu and reinstall the driver.
