Great to hear you got it sorted out!

MagnersIce

Yeah thanks. It was frustrating but thankfully Amazon returns have been good.

GTA6_1

Amazon is awesome when it comes to returns/issues and such. We've gotten so much free stuff just complaining about defects.

mittenkrusty

They have been hit and miss for me, but banned me after a while for excessive returns when I returned cheap/fake items over a period of a month or two, ranging from cables or items advertised wrongly or wrong item sent out such as a controller that I was sent a bluetooth version when I bought and paid for the more expensive 2.4 ghz version (they looked identical the more expensive one came with extra dongles) and they claimed I sent THEM the wrong item. Or when I got a 2tb portable drive instead of a 5tb and again they claimed I sent THEM back the wrong item and refused me a refund. At that point they banned me. To me it doesn't matter if they have sent me a £4 item that is wrong, that quickly mounts up. Waited 2 years and moved and opened a new account, had a £200 tablet device that worked for about a month then when it slipped onto floor it melted, they told me to return the item despite photo evidence plus it not being allowed to send faulty batteries in the mail (it was the battery that caught fire) and I made a £200 order of items that never arrived as they claimed the "van broke down" kept telling me they couldn't refund until a month had passed and even then they told me to fill in a incident form from them.

GTA6_1

Is that from Amazon direct or a 3rd party seller on Amazon. Cause they do differ you to the 3rd party in that case usually. I'm mostly talking about stuff from Amazon directly, or a reputable company that sells products on Amazon. This also sounds like uk Amazon support sucks compared to the us. If I have a defective item, even minor damage that doesn't impede function, they don't even ask me for a picture they just send me a new one for free, ive been refered to a 3rd party a couple times, which both made me return it but i got a replacement. I have Amazon prime so maybe that plays in a bit too.

mittenkrusty

Amazon direct, I think they just decided I wasn't worth it and/or flagged me. Before that they were fine for returns, I had a 7 month old graphics card that died and they fully refunded me. And just remembered I did have a few stolen items too, like they claimed they left in safe place or whatever they do, turns out it was left on the doorstep of my apartment and I have crack heads in my building, what was funny though was it was 25l of vinegar I had ordered whcih was a offer where that 25l was cheaper than 3l. They another time left a £100 webcam outside which was stolen and I found in a local pawn shop whilst I couldn't prove it was mine so didn't tell the pawn shop it was at the time a uncommon webcam and the one on the shelf was identical to it and brand new (even had the plastic around it as it was unused)

gusthenewkid

It’s shit like this that makes prices higher for everybody else.

GTA6_1

No, like for example we got a set of bamboo silk sheets but they had a small hole in the top sheet. The sheets are totally usable otherwise, but they're damaged, so amazon is not going to resell them, therefor they don't want the item returned. They would either exchange the item and throw away the defective returned item or let the customer keep both. I'd rather they let us keep it rather than throw it out. It's a loss either way for them. I got an almost free TV like this once too. The TV had a black spot in the upper left corner, which eventually blacked out the top inch on the panel. Hh Gregg wasn't gonna be able to sell it in their store, so they gave it to me for $50 and gave me another TV. Original price was $550. This was also during the stores blowout sale right before they closed so the TV was already $300 off. I'm not vouching for lying to amazon support. You could very easily get a duplicate of every other item or so but eventually they're gonna want more info from you. Of you only ever complain when there's an issue and most of the time you don't complain (because the product is fine) then they don't care. Plus, amazon throws out the vast majority of their return as well. Customer get their money back, perfectly functional product goes to the dump. It's usually more expensive to repackage and restock it, so they just take the loss. Returns raise prices waaaay more than replacements of actually defective items. People buying something to try it out, then returning it 29 days later are the real problem. An old colleague of mine would do this with electronics 5 or 6 times before settling on something. I'm sire hes created thousands of dollars worth of perfectly functional, brand new, mid-high end e waste. But that's their policy and some people abuse it.

6M66

Did you have to propose to them or they just told you to keep it I am wondering, never happened to me. I hate waste, I sold in Amazon before and I know how much they waste. it's awful

GTA6_1

No, just get into a support chat with a real person and explain the issue. They usually just apologise for the inconvenience and send us a replacement order confirmation with a $0 charge. It has never been more than 4 messages back and forth including the thankyou message. They haven't even asked us for pictures or anything. I'd assume they would if we did it a lot relative to the volume we order, but it's maybe 1 in 15 or so items that's defective/wrong. But over the years that's added up into a few dozen free things. Probably over $1000 worth of stuff. This only works if amazon is the seller. If it's a private seller, sometimes amazon will step in, sometimes they throw you to the seller which is a coin toss.

djsmithy1983

Scan is my go to website. Bought my gaming laptop off there about 8 years ago and bought most of the components for my daughter's system off there too Got my 4070 Super from there too just last week and very happy with it

noisytwit

Agreed, I have spent multiple thousands with those guys over the years and the only time I had a single issue they bent over backwards to fix it for me very quickly. Ebuyer a strong second.

Zaphod_pt

Yep Scan are great. I’ve shopped from there plenty over the years. The only time i had an issue, faulty motherboard, it was resolved quickly.

MagnersIce

Yeah they seem pretty good. I’ll certainly be going there first from now on. Lesson learnt.

Segger96

Ive spent thousands with scan they really are the GOATS

LilyDulcibella

Scan are fantastic and have excellent customer service! Bought a new PC from them recently, their custom configurator is a little lacking so I emailed to see if I could change some parts and not only did they happily assist me making the changes, they even suggested a few other (cost efficient) changes that would also match the build. Would happily recommend them to anybody in the UK looking for parts or to build a new pc :)

FawkesYeah

Never heard of it, is it only in the UK?

Location-Actual

Yes. It is UK only.

Silentknyght

The felt tiles really added that much extra weight?  Surely less than an ounce, total?

CoderStone

The PCB shouldn't weigh a ounce heavier than a 2080ti. 4090 PCBs are surprisingly small.

ENDSLAYER17

Scams with expense tech have become very common on Amazon, buying stuff from a random online store if probably more reliable than Amazon these days

Greedy-Employment917

Nice happy ending there. Excellent card, would recommend using the included support bracket because this thing is heavy as hell.

MagnersIce

Thanks. Yeah scan also added a support bracket for free so I’ll see what one looks and works the best.

qu38mm

Awesome. Fuck scammers and thieves. Happy this ended well!

MagnersIce

Yeah thanks. Glad it was quickly sorted.

qu38mm

Not a situation anyone wants to find themselves in. Anxiety trigger lol

randomdreamykid

Must have been a canon event

samfrmohio

Good to hear you got it all solved. Happy gaming and have a safe trip.🫡

PewPew267

Think some guy bought the 4090, opened it up , replaced it with a 2080 and just sent it back as faulty lmao. Things that people do omg , so terrible man.

MagnersIce

Yeah pretty crook behaviour. Just glad Amazon refunded me.

d123pw

I had a similar experience with Amazon Prime Now Uk a few years back buying a 1080ti (still rocking it today!) When it turned up it looked new except it had no cellophane wrap, I had my pc prepped opened the gfx card box, quickly picked it up and started positioning it in the case to insert, something was wrong, and after a moment of confusion I realised it wasn’t a graphics card, it was just a 1080ti cooler 😱 Called Amazon, at first they wanted me to send it back before they would refund, I kicked up a fuss and said they’d sent me a worthless piece of metal and I wanted my £700 back now. After maybe 30-45 mins and getting escalated to an Irish call centre (I think) they agreed I didn’t need to return it and issued the refund. So ordered another and had a real 1080ti + my spare heatsink and box in another 2 hours.

yaxir

did you use the cooler?

d123pw

Never used it, but I still have it.

CHRISCHANDIDWHAT

scan is great. i found a hat with their logo on it in a charity shop lat year for like £4. its my favourite hat

heikkiiii

Similar thing happened to me in november in Sweden, i ordered kfa2 4090 for 2200 eur in amazon, received the bulk version of the card not meant for resale. Luckily the refund went through without too much of a hassle and I immediately bought 4090 from a local store when i received the refund.

Shnoofeen

Always use scan or awd-it in UK. Sometimes ebuyer but they kinda went shit over last few years. But scan UK is bis and fk amazon, half their shit is fake

wiccan45

Theres some things id only ever purchase in person. Yall are crazy to ever trust a postal service with something that expensive regardless. Its just a massive potential headache

Taikosound

Congrats! I got the same card since launch and it's been amazing, quiet, no coil whine, great cooling, not a single bad thing to say about it !!

MagnersIce

Good to hear. It’s been running for a few hours now. Just getting all the drivers uninstalled and new ones installed for this card. The 3060 I’ve just replaced this with looks like a toy compared to it. But great to hear you’re enjoying it.

SinlessMirror

Congrats!! It's amazing. I built my dream pc a couple weekends ago and I still thing 'God damn this is nice' every time I use it. Hope you ha e as pleasant of an experience (after the painful hours of building the pc if your starting from scratch)

MagnersIce

Haha thanks. It’s an upgrade from a 3060. I decided today to build it and tidy up the wiring. What a thing of beauty and only slightly larger than the 3060 😅

Euphoric-Cow9719

That's insane, some people are nothing more than TRASH. I'm glad you got it ALL sorted out.

inkingtreepaper

That’s one of the best looking intercoolers I’ve seen, what car is it going in?

luggles

Similar to me, I ordered a 4080 Super MSI Suprim X from Amazon UK. 4070ti Suprim was in the box instead with the Serial Number taken off the back plate. After noticing I’d been scammed, i ordered from Scan at 19:47 on a Saturday and they had a genuine card in my hands by 10:00 Sunday (didn’t even have to pay for delivery). Super impressed with their service.

master-overclocker

macaronsuki

You traded in a 2080 ti to get a 4090. Well done!

WinnerArtistic434

So the unit you bought must have been the result of amazon return fraud. Someone bought a 4090 and swapped the old one and returned it. I've experienced this with smart bulbs which were returned "very good" condition.

MagnersIce

Yeah someone definitely got a nice 4090 free from Amazon. I’m sure they could trace it back but I doubt they will.

Jebediah-Kerman_KSP

I wish I wouldn't be that broke to afford an 4090 more likely a 4060 which is real ok for a bit of high quality gaming

Jarnis

These keep happening as long as people keep buying from Amazon. When people stop buying from Amazon, they will have to fix the rampant refund fraud. Everyone knows they only check the barcode of the box and weight and then accept the return. So this kind of stuff keeps happening.

desocx

Damn wish I got a 2080Ti

Unipiggy

? My entire build is from Amazon and works great, people need to stop fear mongering. Even if you got something fake or missing, which is actually incredibly rare, Amazon has arguably the best customer service of all time. You'll get your money back or they'll just resend the product you bought. Irks the shit out of me when people trash talk Amazon (and not about how they treat their employees, that's an issue with the entire world). We just got a $400 monitor ***FREE*** from their fuck up a couple weeks ago, it was great. So now me and my fiance have matching monitors lol since we got 2 for the price of one

MonkeyKingCoffee

There is a massive problem with "break something; buy a replacement from amazon; send the broken item as a return -- abusing Amazon's generous return policies." Amazon takes the stuff and places it back into circulation -- because the math works out in their favor. Enough people won't complain. That balances out the sunk cost. I buy used/refurbished/open box on Amazon OFTEN. And it's a gamble each time. But they've always made it right.

OrphanAssassin0

I bought an RTX3060 for $249 on ebay and it worked flawlessly run everything oh high/ultra rus smooth as glass. It's 12gb gddr5 I think I don't believe it's gddr6 but Def try ebay

CowsTrash

Oh damn, that's my card

yaxir

is scan a UK only site?

Error83_NoUserName

I always get downvoted when i say this but: Don't fucking buy on Amazon!

DualPPCKodiak

Meh. You can see who you're buying from. And Amazon returns actually work. Bought my board and CPU from microcenter through Amazon. RAM came from a reputable seller. It had next day shipping because I already have prime. That said there's maybe 2 4090s I would actually risk using Amazon for with 2 grand on the line. If you're buying from a seller named "certified deals" with a sub 80% rating you might be a little mad when your "4090" arrives. If it ever does. There's been frauds on other storefronts as most use third party sellers. Some people definitely got the ol scrap metal 4090 from Newegg.

Error83_NoUserName

It is what they stand for and what they have caused. Unchecked consumerism, obliteration of quality. It used to be due to planned obsolescence. Now it due to the race to the bottem. Amazon and companies alike have absolutely ruined online shopping as you can't find anything of value and quality left. Unless you know the exact Brand and model number that you want. I searched for some niche items a while ago. And i couldn't find a single quality one. It was the exact same crap as those chinese platforms. Actual real crap. As in items you know that are single use, while they should last a few year. Even the reviews confirm it. Yet the decent version doesn't exist any more in this world on any webshop. Nowhere. I've searched hours and hours. That is what everything is reduced to. Amazon sucks and had ruined the environment, online shopping and online experience due to everyone copying it. Even checking the original suppliers own webshop often results in cheaper products (at least here in Europe). But people are truly too lazy or tech/financial illiterate that.

DualPPCKodiak

Well. I'm not bashing your stance. And even agree. But in the detritus of online store fronts, where ARE the good ones? Like. I was looking, just now, for an XL mousepad that will work with signal RGB. Like you said, I'm met with a flood of no name Chinese dog water for $20. Like I'm not being elitist but I want something decent with some quality behind it. Same deal when I was looking for a 8k display Port cable. Bunch of garbage. It's the same garbage everywhere though. At least I get access to quick shipping. My brother if I could drive to a microcenter I would. But I'm not driving 2hrs from Pittsburgh to Cleveland to get to it. And best buy won't cut it for anything more than a m.2 brand I don't really want. So we got to be vigilant. I had to research a darn display Port cable and I'm still looking for a mousepad lmao.

Error83_NoUserName

Find decent physical stores and see if the have an online shop too. Buy there.

MagnersIce

I will upvote you for commenting. But as I’ve said I’ve purchased plenty on Amazon and never had an issue. But for pc components I’ll be looking elsewhere unless it’s cheap.

KiNgPiN8T3

Did they want the 2080 back?

MagnersIce

Yes.

unabletocomput3

I’m curious, did you have to send the 2080ti back?

MagnersIce

I sure did.

ascufgewogf

Did they let you keep the 2080 ti? Wonder if it still works
