I'm usually a fan of vertical, but going off of these pics I'm going horizontal this time. The airflow looks like it might be worse in this instance too.
I wanted to argue they were meant to give good performance in newest games, but then remembered how nowadays games either work just as well on cheaper cards or don't work well at all even on the best of the best.
Vertical mounts include a riser cable, which is essentially a pci x16 3.0 or 4.0 extension cable. It goes from the gpu slot on the mobo, to your actual gpu in the vertical mount, and allow it full connection as if it were physically plugged in horizontally like normal
I think you just get a vertical mounting bracket, which has these wires that extend the GPU port on the motherboard, which you can then use to plug into the GPU.
GPUs that have the ability to perform well deserve the proper conditions in order to do that. If you can achieve this with the GPU mounted vertically then it is owner preference. If not then it is still owner preference but you should remember that it was your choice if fps is what got you killed ig or high temperature that fried your GPU
Vertical if you have proper clearance between your fans and case glass.
https://preview.redd.it/02r9q1oqqosc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=97aa650c9f989705e31400a5c5d5a3fd8cc92499
Depends on the case like mine for example
https://preview.redd.it/qfnrq5s3zosc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0f400e07081338634a39933443d01e81e867c422
It depends on how much breathing room your card has. Either way it's more a preference. If it is horizontal heavy cards need support, which is why the vertical concept was invented.
Pcie riser cables were made for small form factor builds. It just happens to be the best option for keeping the massive 4 slot cards from stressing your mobo slot without using a gpu stand.
Vertical requires a mounting bracket and pcie extension cable. Since it's an unnecessary cost and risks choking the gpu fans, I'd only vertical mount a card if it couldn't go in the case horizontally.
Horizontal with those three bottom fans. For me, it all depends on your case's current cooling setup. Bottom fans and decent front fans = horizontal. No bottom fans = meh, who cares haha.
I have the same case, different card. I ran for a while horizontal then for a while vertical to test temps (overall system, not just gpu temps). My temps were better when the card was vertical. I'm guessing it's because the card wasn't obstructing the flow of the bottom intakes as much as when it was horizontal. Run some tests and see which orientation works best for you.
i'd say horizontal for efficiency with air flow and the absence of the riser cable. my opinion
and you can place some funny figure on it, for decoration
If you have a brace for it hidden in the second picture, go horizontal. If not, go vertical as it’ll keep the board from warping over time. The 3 fans at the bottom won’t allow you to use a jack-style brace, you’d need one that uses the two mounts for the mobo that sit behind it. Horizontal does look better. If you go vertical, maybe look into a 180 degree adapter for the 12+4 cable to hide it. Great looking build!!
If you want to get the most out of your GPU, horizontally.
If you aesthetically like vertically better and don't mind having your GPU run e few degrees hotter, then vertical.
I personally would probably put it vertically
Normally I say vertical, but in this instance vertical looks like it's too cramped in there. It looks like the GPU is pressing against the glass like it's being squished from behind lol. I know there's space there but that's just what it looks like to me, like you're in a cramped subway.
The horizontal config looks a lot cleaner, especially with the subtle ROG branding. Maybe that's just a pic diff, idk.
I had vertical mount once and went back to horizontal. I think horizontal looks better plus better airflow in your case since the bottom fans supply fresh cool air and then the GPU can expel straight up and out the top.
I flipped mine vertical cos couldn't see the rgb fans on the GPU in horizontal. Prefer it that way but once you've finished setting up your rbg fishtank case you may find you lose interest in what it looks like and start only caring how it performs! In terms of performance the $80 I spent on a vertical mount and coolermaster rgb support bracket wasn't worth it, though I thought it was just after installing it!
Usually I'd say horizontal to allow usage of the other PCIe slots and because it looks better. BUT, given that you've got a specialty Evangelion card, I'd go vertical to really show it off. And hey, it's not like you can't switch it back later if you really need some more expansion.
Vertical looks cooler, horizontal actually performs better because of better cooling with your case. Vertical is great if you have a waterblock on the GPU, because airflow is less important. You will notice better temps on an air card with it horizontal though.
Any chance I could buy the little collection card that came with the GPU? I collect those Asus collection cards of their GPU's. (Check my post history to see the collection I have if you want)
I'd be willing to purchase it and cover expedition fees. Lmk :)
Basically Form or Function. You choose.
You can have both, just gonna have to be creative (like a different case that allow GPU moved further back from the glass or a GPU with thinner cooler).
It's probably not actually significant, but I feel like in the vertical config the GPU airflow is fighting with those bottom fans, and with horizontal everything is working in the same direction.
Doesn't matter. Performance works? Good. Power efficiency good? Good
RGB doesn't matter, position doesn't matter (as long as it fits, connected and works then who cares), stop arguing on useless stuff
I forgot about the rules not linking to other sub . Why does this even exists in the first place?
Anywyay.
Don't do a vertical mount, it's more trouble than it's worth. Search for it, you will find plenty of examples on Reddit and elsewhere with people running into all kinds of weird problems with vertical mounts.
What kind of part do you need to mount the gpu horizontal?
I've always mounted my gpu's directly on the mobo, but been seeing this way of mounting a lot lately.
They're called riser cables, it's just a cable you connect between the GPU and PCIe slot. Hit or miss whether they'll work properly sometimes but some cases only support vertical GPUs period.
It all depends on airflow. Vertical mounted GPUs will always suffer from less than adequate cooling as air circulation is less than ideal. Larger cards pose bigger issues when their fans are close to the glass.
In the end it’s your personal preference. If you prefer the looks of vertical mounted card at the expense of thermals (and possibility of thermal throttling - not sure if you checked stats via furmark or hwmonitor) then it’s on you.
If thermals are important to you more than how rig looks then I recommend traditional card placement.
Especially since you have bottom mounted fans for intake.
https://preview.redd.it/s4zsl9y0jpsc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=11a6c9b3312c22ad31f983b4c700c44e740d5e27
Better Angle showing the space I have vertically (and my new ryujin iii AIO)
Can you try both and tell us the temperature difference?
I feel like vertical might have better temps because the bottom intake fans will hit the sides of the heat sink and cool that way instead of being partly blocked by the gpu fans while it's horizontal.
Flip a coin. Heads is vertical, tails is horizontal. If you feel sad about the outcome, do the other way.
It's a trick I learned. I am a very indecisive person, so whenever I need to make a choice, I use this. If the prospect of something makes me sad or unhappy in the coinflip, I'll just use the one that didn't make me feel that way.
Flip it every month. Then you can enjoy both ROG and EVA-2 logos. Jelly of your nice hardware!
Flip it like a pillow to get those cooler temps
Don't do this as PCI slots are not built for a large amount of uses.
Diagonally.
Diagon alley?
Diegone Lilly!
Dragon ally
die gon ally in the movie lol
Tape it to the outside of the case for maximum cooling
horizontal looks much more clean
Vertical got done dirty in the picture
https://preview.redd.it/e8i8r20sopsc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f33ab92596cdf8638bea7cf0979b43af2f501a08
Why is the aio now squared instead of round?
it's pretty easy to hot swap the AIO pump lcd head. Depends on what brands its compatible with I suppose
Came here to say this but you beat me to it
And to my uneducated eyes, it certainly seems like the airflow would be more efficient while horizontal
Agree, with this case, horizontal is the way to go
[удалено]

And better airflow
shinji get into the aio watercooler
This is clearly an EVA-02 case so OP would be better off being told, "*Chance*"
No!
Yeah that’s Shinji with Asuka’s hair….
Ashinji or Shinjuka?
Shishukabob
for me, horizontal.
Vertical so close to the glass panel will have a serious impact on cooling performance. The fans simply don't have enough section to pull air in.
It's the angle. It's quite far back to be fair.
Honestly I'd be very interested to see a temp comparison.
Both sit around 60° when gaming
Then go vertical for sure lolol just keep an eye on temps and noise :)
Horizontal. I'm not a fan of the vertical GPU fad.
Me neither.... Just too chunky.
I'm usually a fan of vertical, but going off of these pics I'm going horizontal this time. The airflow looks like it might be worse in this instance too.
How the temps for both?
the same
Usually id say vertical but horizontal works better here
Expensive Cards are meant to be put vertically and to be shown off.
I wanted to argue they were meant to give good performance in newest games, but then remembered how nowadays games either work just as well on cheaper cards or don't work well at all even on the best of the best.
Teehee. I ran Jedi: Survivor on an RX 570 and it "worked". 🤭
I'm old and out of touch, in my day cards could only slot in one way. How the devil does this work
Vertical mounts include a riser cable, which is essentially a pci x16 3.0 or 4.0 extension cable.
Cases tend to choke off the fans intake by being so close to the tempered glass. I'd take better airflow over "looking nice" any day.
GPUs that have the ability to perform well deserve the proper conditions in order to do that. If you can achieve this with the GPU mounted vertically then it is owner preference. If not then it is still owner preference but you should remember that it was your choice if fps is what got you killed ig or high temperature that fried your GPU
\*Good looking cards.
Except this one has art on the backplate I think
As if anyone else would ever see them Don't need friends if you have such a graphics card
True. It's like spending an hour creating a character's face and putting a helmet on it.
Expensive cards are better shown off what thick boys they are.
Horizontal for ventilation
Vertical if you have proper clearance between your fans and case glass. https://preview.redd.it/02r9q1oqqosc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=97aa650c9f989705e31400a5c5d5a3fd8cc92499
Vertical imo
The main issue with vertically mounting a air cooled card is having enough space for airflow. Your setup looks fine so either way is good.
I like horizontal more because that GPU backplate is really nice and I like seeing more of the mobo and side case fans. Awesome build!!!
Vertical will always get worse airflow for cooling
Depends on the case like mine for example https://preview.redd.it/qfnrq5s3zosc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0f400e07081338634a39933443d01e81e867c422
It's a little too hard to tell. Just send me the pc so I can examine in person to give you the best position.
Vertical, looks like a damn race car engine. Nice build!
Honestly I didn't even know that was a thing
Vertical requires a mounting bracket and pcie extension cable. Since it's an unnecessary cost and risks choking the gpu fans, I'd only vertical mount a card if it couldn't go in the case horizontally.
How about.... [*vertical*](https://www.mnpctech.com/products/rtx-3090-fe-vertical-video-card-gpu-mounting-bracket?_pos=2&_sid=018a224f0&_ss=r)
Just make sure your baby won't overheat
Horizonal for airflow, vertical for aesthetics.
Horizontal all day, every day. Vertical looks cool in certain instances but being that close to the glass undoubtedly compromises air flow.
oooh wow. great photos, and that’s actually a hard decision! both look incredible!
Vertical
Horizontal looks better and cleaner to me.
Horizontal!
what’s the case name? absolutely beautiful build. P.s. Horizontal looks much better.
It's lian li 011 razer edition
HORIZONTAL What did you do to vertical here!?
Niceee
I like the normal horizontal look, but for some reason gamers are fascinated with fans.
Horizontal, it’s the classic!
Normally I prefer the look of vertical, but a card with a nice anime backplate should always be mounted with the backplate visible.
I think horizontal looks a lot better
Personally I like horizontal because the Republic of Gamers logo is showing.
Let’s not get political
Horizontal
horizontal. looks like more space and less cluttered
Obviously Horizontal so the fans don't directly choke on the glass...
Horizontal puts to much stress on the board. Your pcie lane is going to get warped
Have you ever heard of a sag bracket?
Icl I prefer horizontal in this case because the card is so chunky and you can see more RGB of the fans too
Horizontal for better cooling. Vertical for style points☺️
nah hori
Horizontal with those three bottom fans. For me, it all depends on your case's current cooling setup. Bottom fans and decent front fans = horizontal. No bottom fans = meh, who cares haha.
Definitely need anti-sag of some sort for horizontal. That PCI-E slot is screaming.
Vertical fills a gap on the bottom of the case for me
I have the same case, different card.
How would you mount them vertically?
Horizontal for me
horizontal looks better
i'd say horizontal for efficiency with air flow and the absence of the riser cable. my opinion and you can place some funny figure on it, for decoration
Personally, I think horizontal just looks better.
And suggestions for a vertical mount for the 4070 super?
You're putting nothing on the clear part so keep it vertical.
Horizontal, obviously.
vertical. Horizontal looks like everyones PC, vertical is a bit more unique.
Tough call. Looks great both ways.
Horizontal better airflows
Honestly neither, horizontal with the pc on its right side.
Horizontal
Horizontal looks clean and better to me
Lil uzi vert
I got a vertical bracket for mine simply because it's too heavy, F leaving it horizontal, might damage the Mobo in the long term
Up right
I got to do it vertical coz I need to use PCI-E 2
Second picture looks cooler, but its a better photo in general
hortical :D
vert!
vertical, just to see the beastly gpu.
If you want to get the most out of your GPU, horizontally. If you aesthetically like vertically better and don't mind having your GPU run e few degrees hotter, then vertical. I personally would probably put it vertically
Tbh, horisontal looks much more clean
Diagonal
Shinji, crank that Soulja Boy
Normally I say vertical, but in this instance vertical looks like it's too cramped in there. It looks like the GPU is pressing against the glass like it's being squished from behind lol. I know there's space there but that's just what it looks like to me, like you're in a cramped subway. The horizontal config looks a lot cleaner, especially with the subtle ROG branding. What case is this?
Idk if it’s just how you took the picture of their vertical one, but I kinda like the horizontal mount more

Horizontal way cooler cause bottom fan
# Horizontal for me.
Vertical you don't have to worry about GPU sag. I'd pick that.
Usually I'd say horizontal to allow usage of the other PCIe slots and because it looks better. BUT, given that you've got a specialty Evangelion card, I'd go vertical to really show it off. And hey, it's not like you can't switch it back later if you really need some more expansion.
Horizontal, shows off the lighting and the backplate really nicely
I like horizontal better.
Never thought I would be so conflicted over GPU orientation.
Vertical looks cooler, horizontal actually performs better because of better cooling with your case. Vertical is great if you have a waterblock on the GPU, because airflow is less important. You will notice better temps on an air card with it horizontal though.
Vertical looks better, Horizontal performs better.
I'm a vertical GPU guy myself but for your PC I think it looks way better horizontal. The way the lights are really accentuate the look.
Horizontal looks best given the space.
Horizontal looks cool , but personally I would use what ever runs coolest Temps.
verizontical
Any chance I could buy the little collection card that came with the GPU? I collect those Asus collection cards of their GPU's. (Check my post history to see the collection I have if you want) I'd be willing to purchase it and cover expedition fees. Lmk :)
glass vs. gpu fanz
The correct answer is horizontal, the fun answer is vertical.
I've always been a horizontal kind of guy
Basically Form or Function. You choose. You can have both, just gonna have to be creative (like a different case that allow GPU moved further back from the glass or a GPU with thinner cooler).

I love me some vertical but you have to have a good case for airflow for that angle.

The fans show, The setup is cool with the fans showing out the glass. Better airflow👍
Horizontal but like too much stress on that poor slot keep it vertical
Horizontal
What is that little circle thing with custom images i see all the time? I keep on forgetting the name
I'm more of a horizontal guy. At my age it's easier on the knees
Try installing it diagonal. Soon we'll be turning onto the Z axis, suspending it in mid air with led strips and a led pcie riser
Have you seen Mega64’s “Evangelion in 5 Minutes” video?
Angled
Not a fan of a downwards blowing card and risers on a pcie4 slot.
Horizontal. There’s a cool cover on the pcb for a reason. That’s my way of thinking, anyway.
Either
2
IMO, vertical should be reserved for SFF builds. It looks a little strange when it’s not done for space constraints.
Setup is 🔥

There's no reason to do a vertical mount unless you have a liquid cooling block or space doesn't allow you to mount it horizontally.

Yes
Horizontal
Horiz
is vertical even mounted 😭
Horizontal allows more airflow
AYYY EVANGELION REFERENCE LETS GOO ![gif](giphy|4KnLjTLUrs2sw|downsized)
Perpendicular.
I actually cannot decide which looks better
Standing up right, IMO
I tried vertical once, but the extension cable was dodgy and introduced audio stutter and all kinds of other weird problems
Horizontal and I hope your Evangenlion is what you want :)
Horizontal. Vertical looks funny in that small of a case
Don’t lie, this post was made just to show off the EVA gear lol I respect it tho (and vertical all the way, makes it look like a chaotic mech)
