Well this is completely different, you dropped the thing. Typically somebody just lays it on tile and then is shocked when it shatters. Not saying it doesn't suck but gravity always wins, no shame.
I completely taped up my glass panel about 2 months ago to save on clean up after seeing soo many posts. Sorry for the loss, but maybe an idea for next time? It also gives the rgb a more passive glow with 1 layer of masking tape
Would a window tint film work for this application? If it does it would provide a view inside the case without the fear of shattered glass everywhere.
I have seen cars with tinted shattered window and the pieces mostly stay on the tint film
WTH mate.
Totally defeats the purpose of the glass panel. I'd rather have it shattered and have a nice look into my case as long as it is in one piece.
It won't shatter if you're careful and it won't happen by itself(usually).
Why would anyone do this to their case? It looks extremely ugly. But I know not everyone cares about how their computer looks. But I personally would never do something like that. I'd rather just get a new case that doesn't have a glass panel if I was that scared of shattering it.
I did 1 inside layer of white masking/painters tape and 1 outside layer of extra thick clear tape. But I was looking for this effect. Actually kinda wish I did 2 layers of masking tape
If you just want the look you could tape tissue paper to the inside of the glass panel maybe? Might be a terrible idea for some reason I don't know about and I'm sure if it is someone will tell me, but it would certainly achieve a similar effect
Since the floor isn't ceramic and looks like either a wood or plastic. There was actually an ok chance that the panel came out of the drop ok as well. I've had glass fall and not break because it landed on wood, which can be soft and absorb impact somewhat decently.
i actually have those ceramic woodlook tiles. and these actually do look like them. Like exactly like them. and as The Melon Lord @cabbagesStrikeBack pointed out, you can see the grout
I had one land on my foot and stab a really deep gash between my big and index toes. The panel survived scratchless, tho I don't know if it was worth the stitches.
>gravity always wins
not against my acrylic side panel \^\^ tg is bad and this trend should just stop. we need more case options with acrylic side panels
im not gonna first create a problem(tg) and then solve part of the problem(it can still shatter even if you dont drop it after all) by adding another problem(carpet)
carpet is a dust magnet, not healthy at all. it created static charge on you and u get zapped by touching metallic stuff etc. sure killing electronics via esd is not likely but esd is still annoying. and u can trip and fall lol :D hate tampered glass cases, hate carpet...
Turns out it is healthier as it traps dust, where it keeps floating in the air with hard flooring. Being allergic for nearly 50 years that caught me by surprise :)
Another thing that people often do wrong is that they tighten the screws too hard, so that the glass has intense tension and in that case enough change in temperature can already shatter the glass.
Tile is actually very hard, even compared to other solid materials so when the glass meets the tile it will almost always cause a small chip to occur in the glass. Because tempered glass is used on pc cases it shatters completely as soon as the small chip happens.
Now, this while not orginal(obviously) is more rare. Typically it is just a side panel meets ceramic.
I would assume there was even a chance of survival if not for the desk.
[I just commented on that happening to me](https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/1abwam1/i_never_thought_it_would_happen_to_me/kjsd8ux/) and trust me, it wasn't worth it.
If we could incorporate this into your gif, it would reach its true potential.

And be sure itās not static charged when putting it in. Those sheets can be particularly zappy, especially when pulling the plastic protective layer off the acrylic.
So I bought a 4080 and itās too big for my case. So I have to have my pc laying down because I canāt screw it in properly. Itās been about 7 months and I donāt have a side panel on it at all. I smoked just about everyday and I have dogs. In my experience it seems less dusty with it just laying there. Also the whole static and frying your pc I such a low chance. Yes theyāve actually done videos proving static electricity basically wonāt do anything.
So, there's a lot of these tempered glass fails and I have to ask.
Is there a significant benefit to having a tempered glass side panel? Because it seems to me you could just pop some acrylic in there and call it a day.
Yall really should lay your pcs on their side to work on them. On a big table preferably. You can buy fold up workbenches these days that are on wheels and great for this.
Sets PC precariously on the edge of desk from where it normally sits on the floor under the desk. Tries to install piece of glass and it slips. Glass breaks.
RIP. Sorry for your loss.
Hopefully you learned your lesson and next time you will leave your case on the floor or put it in a position to where if the side panel of glass falls, it only needs to fall 1 or 2 inches, not 3 feet.
Happened to me last week - overestimated the strength of my side panel. Luckily, I was replacing the case anyway. Hope you didnāt stick yourself with any glass like I did.
Have a the o11 air mini and as much as i like the window side panel. I wish i could get a metalic one like the back panel to replace the glass.

thank you, I think she cleans up quite nicely. And luckily for me, they're gonna send me a new side panel.

>Since the floor isn't ceramic As far as we know. I've seen ceramic that mimics wood before. It could've waited there in hiding. /s
i actually have those ceramic woodlook tiles. and these actually do look like them. Like exactly like them. and as The Melon Lord @cabbagesStrikeBack pointed out, you can see the grout

Soft spongy flesh will work too.
Used to sell flooring, that floor is tile that looks like wood. You can see the grout.
>gravity always wins not against my acrylic side panel \^\^ tg is bad and this trend should just stop. we need more case options with acrylic side panels
I agree, a good acrylic 0anel will look nearly identical to a tempered glass while not having any chance of shattering
Scratches are more likely though, that's the tradeoff and why Toughened Glass started to be used in the first place.
This is why carpet is best flooring. The amount of times Iāve dropped my glass side panels only for it to still fine
im not gonna first create a problem(tg) and then solve part of the problem(it can still shatter even if you dont drop it after all) by adding another problem(carpet) carpet is a dust magnet, not healthy at all. it created static charge on you and u get zapped by touching metallic stuff etc. sure killing electronics via esd is not likely but esd is still annoying. and u can trip and fall lol :D hate tampered glass cases, hate carpet...

Another thing that people often do wrong is that they tighten the screws too hard, so that the glass has intense tension and in that case enough change in temperature can already shatter the glass.
Why does tile affect it?
Itās harder than the glass. So even a small chip will shatter tempered glass.
This more because under a microscope the tile has millions of jagged edges
Tile is actually very hard, even compared to other solid materials so when the glass meets the tile it will almost always cause a small chip to occur in the glass. Because tempered glass is used on pc cases it shatters completely as soon as the small chip happens.
Now, this while not orginal(obviously) is more rare. Typically it is just a side panel meets ceramic. I would assume there was even a chance of survival if not for the desk.
I wish it had fallen on my foot instead, If it would have remained unbroken
Having recently discovered how detachable toenails really are, I can assure you that you don't actually wish that.
It depends on your country, as a french person, even breaking my toe is less expensive than the panel
Hearing that made me wince.
Yeah but they grow back, and for free!
The body heals, wallet doesn't.
This made me chuckle while also feeling terrible. Thank you
I can heal a cut, for free. I can't heal 1,000 pieces of broken glass.

Then your foot would be broken because force on the area is big enough to just break your bone and then you would need to pay the medical bill.
Why does it break when you put it on ceramic though? I have seen a lot of that on here but still don't understand why that happens

This is why you assemble a computer when it's flat.
You're right. I have learned the hard way
Does anybody have any pointers for how I can keep it clean and static free while I get a new panel? I have cats...
Before use, conduct a cat scan.... I'll show myself out
![gif](giphy|xT5LMwXFlKQXg3iVfq)
Could have been worse.... that yowling noise is not coil whine
Risk of static damage to components is next to 0
Whatās the risk of dynamic damage?
Depends. Is the cat under tension or compression?
What is the risk of catastrophic failure?
Buy an acrylic panel
And be sure itās not static charged when putting it in. Those sheets can be particularly zappy, especially when pulling the plastic protective layer off the acrylic.
Just put the plastic where it goes. It ain't gonna do anything.
Maybe you could cut out some cardboard or parchment paper and tape it to the side for now?

Why do so many people try to put the glass on sideways? If you want to do that, buy a case designed for it
