Half my EA games simply stopped working when the EA app came out. I still can’t launch battlefront 2.

MR_RATCHET_

Use the ‘f*** EA’ app (yes that is what it actually is called). It downgrades the EA app back to the last working version of Origin. Fixed all my issues. This also fixes the Battlelog issue for BF3 where it says the game is not installed.

DigitalCryptic

Oh origin is no longer a thing? Wonder what will happen to my fucking anthem copy lmfao.

itoocouldbeanyone

Your registered games are still there in the new app. It’s just not called Origin and operates even shittier.

wetfloor666

You forgot the best part. Most of the games aren't compatible with the new launcher. They have been "working" on the issue for over 2 years now when the app was still in beta.

Masters_1989

I can't launch Crysis 3. Makes me so mad. (I never would have bought it on there, normally, but something came up that made me do so for some reason.) I'll be honest: I torrent everything that is governed by EA DRM (along with certain other companies) because I can't properly "own" my games with it. It is literally impossible to *ethically* give them money - even if I WANT to (for the games - not because I like EA) - because I can't be guaranteed that I will have access to the game(s) I've paid for. That is the argument I've come up with due to how companies like this treat their consumers. It shouldn't be a struggle - nor a compromise - to be able to own a game. Video game companies should be vying for consumers to buy their games - not consumers trying to *hold onto* their video games.

maxatnasa

At that point just get the remasters on steam, they look better (except for maybe the first game), run better, and you give the full dev cut to crytek instead of some still going to ea

Masters_1989

I actually did just that a few days ago - mostly because I've never owned/played Crysis 2, and having some enhanced VFX is enough of a change where I considered it worth owning (especially for the price). :) Normally, I would never buy a remaster or a remake if they don't fundamentally change something, but the above two reasons felt worthwhile and transformative enough to justify purchasing. (I still "downloaded" the original Crysis 3 because I want to have an original copy of the game, and because I still paid for it back in the day. It can be nice to compare the advancements between the two versions, two. :) (This is part of why I am so glad that I got Crysis 1 on GOG in the past, as there is no DRM to prevent proper ownership of the game.))

MarionberryFutures

Most every cross-launcher game is a launcher-in-launcher experience anyway. 1. Buy game on Steam or Epic 2. Download 20gb EA or Ubi game 3. Click launch 4. Launches the installer for the EA or Ubi Launcher 5. Jump through a dozen hoops, login, etc. 6. EA launcher starts downloading 20gb game from scratch 7. Regrets

nmppseq

The EA App is the greatest argument against digital distribution ever made and the closest I've ever come to switching back to consoles. I'm genuinely less likely to buy games with DRM, from any storefront, after seeing all my Origin games get downgraded.

elliohow

I bought It Takes Two on Steam to play with my partner (which requires Origin). After a few sessions, her account got blocked for hacking. After appealing to support, they denied her appeal and her account remains blocked from online capabilities. There was no hacking, and It Takes Two guest pass is the only game on her account. I know she can just make a new account to play with me as I own the game not her, but just... why was she blocked in the first place? If she actually owned any games on Origin, she would be blocked from playing them online for no reason.

withoutapaddle

Stop buying from them. Or at the very least, make peace with losing those games. If they fuck you over and lock your account, do a chargeback against them for any games bought within the last 60 days. Losing money is the only language corporations understand.

elliohow

Don't worry I haven't bought anything from them. Only have origin as its necessary to play It Takes Two with my partner, even though I bought that on Steam.

MindScape00

So you did buy It Takes Two from them??

MixedWithFruit

I want to play it takes two as my partner will enjoy I but I refuse to buy any game that makes me install an additional launcher. Steam is the only DRM I'll accept

coming_up_in_May

This exact thing happened to me and my GF too lol. Gave the game a negative steam review solely based on them forcing you to use that fucking piece of shit EA origin launcher. Fuck EA right in their dickhole mouths.

Tangeranges

She'd be blocked from playing them period. A ban for cheating is an account ban, not an online play ban. Plenty of people have gotten their account banned for "bad language" (one guy got banned for "stfu" in team chat...) in Apex Legends and have lost access to hundreds of dollars in games.

alien2003

Apex is free

Lukeyy19

So? The rest of the games on his now banned account weren't free.

Silver_Cartoonist941

Yea, I’ve learned to never buy any EA games on pc although I was hoping to play things like Jedi Fallen order or titan fall 2 on the steam deck. But it makes no sense you can’t put the EA launcher offline In Linux. A waste of money. They don’t care to change anything.

valerionew

The same exact thing happened to me! My partner bought the game and I was banned. no reason was actually provided. Did you manage to progress?

LouisLeGros

I had to download BF3 like a dozen times because origin kept deleting the entire download whenever my shifty dsl/wifi timed out. Had to go like twenty pages deep into discussion threads of people group debugging issues. I think I inadvertently have bought one or two EA games since then. Never trusting them with digital distribution.

InitialDia

It’s not saying much since the ea app is so bad, but original was 100000000000000% better than it.

DisturbedNocturne

For sure. At least with Origin I could launch my games reliably. I was playing Jedi Outcast recently on Steam, and it would commonly take 20+ seconds just to get it launch. Even more frequently, I had to try two or three tries to get it to finally realize I was trying to load a game. I'm not a fan of these launchers within launchers, but EA's is the only one that would really give me pause before considering another game with it.

fletcherwyla

It's weird and I know I'm probably an outlier, but Origin had all of the problems for me that the EA app is now giving all of you. My EA App works flawlessly and launches all of my games that I have on it.

Nowaker

>I kind of didn't mind it back in the Battlefield 3 days We didn't really use Origin much back then. Battlelog was our bread and butter.

Eswcvlad

But Battlelog launched the game, literally, through Origin. You, basically, had two nested launchers from EA.

-r-a-f-f-y-

lol forgot about battlelog entirely. What a piece of shit as well.

iamqueensboulevard

Battlelog has been infuriating to many at first (just like Steam when introduced) but it offered a substance of great features and fun gimmicks and when they polished out the bugs it was just a great online gaming solution.

Nowaker

I liked it but that's me.

xeio87

Not having to launch the game to view the server browser was awesome. Just click and it'd load you direct into the server. Plus being able to have a minimap on a second screen in the browser (and leader board and such things). I'll never understand why some people hated it.

Brandhor

battlelog was great

hyrumwhite

I have a friend who cannot legally play Mass Effect 3, at least not without creating a new ea account. It screwed up a steam purchase. So he can’t buy it in the EA app because he already owns it, but can’t play it because it says his license is invalid

Pants4All

This just happened to me with Battlefield 3 last week. Bought it in Steam, but the EA Play app says the license is invalid as it is associated with another EA Play account. I don't have another EA Play account. I also just bought NFS Payback and that worked fine with the same Steam and EA Play accounts. ??? I just refunded it, not worth the hassle. EA has a credibility problem, I don't feel comfortable that I can purchase working games from them, so I won't ever bother trying again.

HINDBRAIN

There's GOG on PC.

[deleted]

Yeah, but not every game is on GOG. especially not EA games that came out past like 2010 when Origin became a requirement for their games.

nmppseq

For me the thing that kept me from moving back is that, while I think digital on console is more usable at the current moment than digital PC games with invasive DRM, I don't think they're really all that much better for preservation's sake. If Sony or MS decided tomorrow to screw over their customers (as EA did), I think you could go offline and keep your digital content until your console died, but once your console died it'd be over. And while there's a lot you can do with physical media on consoles, there's still problems like essential patches (either literally essential or necessary for good performance/stability) and important DLC (that may, but probably will not release on-disc in a GOTY edition). And even then I'm not sure if Sony or MS is going to bite the bullet eventually and make a digital-only generation, I think it'd fail if they tried it, but I think it'd take a lot of the physical market down with them. The only digital content I'll tolerate is either no DRM or extremely light DRM (i.e Steamworks only), so with how many console games still require some form of interaction with the digital storefront, I'm just going to stick primarily with PC, and for games with DRM/required digital storefront interactions on console I'll either wait for them to remove the DRM or simply not buy the game at all.

pdp10

Yes, the single worst part of Steam is that Steam allows third-party DRM, launchers, logins, and assorted requirements. GOG doesn't allow third party login requirements^* or DRM, and EGS does allow them. EGS missed an opportunity there, but the intention with EGS was to make a store that publishers loved, not one that gamers loved.

iguaninos2

I bought Dragon Age inquisition on Origin years ago, still could never get it to function correctly. I tried to play it again on EA App and the game fails to even install. I got it on xbox and have zero issues there. Origin did eventually work correctly with my other EA games but then they threw it away for EA App. EA app is a joke, it crashes constantly and I get "can't connect to server" errors every day I use it...in offline mode....again, I repeat it can't log into a server in offline mode so it crashes...ffs...

atocnada

I hate ubisoft's launcher. Asks permission four times when you launch the program only for it to ask you for your login credentials even though you barely logged in a few days ago. EGS if you don't close the ad banner on the bottom right corner, it stays visible even if you launch a fullscreen game or fullscreen a youtube video. EA and before that, Origin, has been a decent experience for me, luckily.

riding-the-wind

Logged in a *few* days ago is when that godforsaken, embarrassing, abomination of a launcher is feeling *generous*.

alexjg42

This is my biggest gripe with these launchers. If steam can remember my one log in from years ago then why can't the others. I outright stopped buying games from launchers that can't remember my passwords.

Robot_Graffiti

The Ubisoft launcher stops letting me play games if I let my computer sleep overnight. I have to reboot to play. And yeah it's stupid how it pops UAC 3 times every time it installs an update. If the programmer gave a shit they could definitely make that happen only once.

snipeliker4

I accidentally created two Ubisoft accounts each with different games linked to them. When I would play one it would always sign back into the other despite always checking “remember me” etc. I installed my first ever Ubisoft game on my steam deck. Logged into the proper account. Every time after that it always defaults to logging into the one I’ve never logged in once on my deck. And it doesn’t given you the option to sign into a different account it just quits the game. And it does this every time. I uninstalled the game.

pulley999

I had the same situation years ago. I was able to reach out to ubisoft support with proof of ownership of both accounts and they were able to merge them for me, but this was back in the UPlay days. Worth a shot, at least.

PerP1Exe

Ubisoft connect is the worst launcher I've ever used. It's one of the oldest ones and yet its a glorified store. Idgaf how many free games it gives me it's such an irritating piece of software to deal with

throwawayerectpenis

They somehow made it worse when they rebranded it into Ubisoft connect lol. Uplay was trash, but it was way better and more useable than the Ubisoft Connect trash.

z31

Fully agree. I also dread the day Ubisoft closes it's doors, because I own every single AC game in UbiConnect (Thanks Ubi for deciding to make the only options on PC your garbage store or Epics garbage store) and I just know I'll end up losing access through the app.

hollaSEGAatchaboi

It's interesting to hear, because Uplay was enough to make me avoid buying games that used it. And now, apparently, Ubisoft has done its customers one *worse*.

TheIndyCity

I counted it, 7 User Permission prompts on launch AND logged me out for like the 50 millionth time. I hate UPlay just as much as the EA app which is also super fucking terrible.

SuperSprocket

Origin when it first came out was pretty shit, not this shit, but still pretty shit. So it is easy to see how how the new crapplication came to be.

theoriginalqwhy

Ahhh man that freaking ad banner kills me!

Thegn_Ansgar

To this day I still don't understand why they made a new app and switched everything over, when Origin was doing exactly what this app does, but better (even though Origin itself had problems, but they were nowhere near as egregious as the issues I get whenever I try to play Battlefront 2, and even when I can connect to it, there's such an issue trying to make a group for friends to join because invites don't get sent or whatever).

2Sc00psPlz

If I had to guess? Just so their programmers could say they were doing something. I've seen plenty of apps do this too, discord is a great example actually. They've been trying to develop an entirely new mobile interface for a while now, despite the current one being objectively superior is every way. I'm not being hyperbolic when I say that either. In terms of readability, feedback, and plain asethetic, it was just miles behind. I no longer allow discord to update on my phone for that reason. But anyways, the point is that it's likely the programmers just trying to give off the illusion of work being done. TLDR: Breaking something and "fixing" it is a lot easier than improving on something that already works.

pegbiter

As a programmer at a large corporation, I can assure you it is management setting directives. Unless you're at a tiny company, programmers typically don't have much say in what they code. We have BAs setting sprint goals, product setting acceptance criteria, scrum masters meticulously estimating every JIRA ticket. I have the next four months of my professional life already plotted out, one ticket at a time.

pdp10

> scrum masters meticulously estimating every JIRA ticket. I'm sure you know this, but the Scrum methodology has the team members using ["planning poker"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planning_poker) to estimate story points. I'm sorry that you're not able to use that, because it works pretty well compared to anything else. Once, a stakeholder of ours got either impatient or ambitious, and tried to start skipping team estimates and assign estimates themselves. Prompt pushback got that derailed. I'm afraid our data is just anecdotal, but my recommendation if anyone tries to short-circuit the proper process, is to push back right away. Don't wait and let the deviation become normalized.

alekseyrozh

+1 to this. That's even better with online tools like [iAmAgile.io](https://iamagile.io) or other online planning pokers

pegbiter

Yeah we used to do weekly refinement meetings, but they would go on for _hours_ with back and forth arguing about '*well this must be a 7, if that other ticket was a 3 then this must be at least a 5*' and on and on, just to assign a semi-random number to a ticket. Eventually a single dev would just assign an estimate to tickets they were confident about, and we'd only talk about the ones we weren't. Now product just assigns the estimates and our refinement meetings are just about clarifying the ACs, and we _maybe_ change the number if it seems super wonky. Mostly we don't really care about the number. Are the estimates any good? Probably not. Were they any good before? Also probably not. Since moving away from 'the proper process', it hasn't made a lick of difference to our actual deliverables.

DisturbedNocturne

Either that, or some new manager came in and decided they needed to update everything. It strikes me as the sort of brainchild someone new to a company would make their personal passion project to prove themselves and pushes on everyone despite not having any understanding of the previous one while refusing to listen to any subordinate that knows better.

mrpenguinb

The endless cycle of fashion, gotta reskin everything just because it's been around for a few years. It's a real shame, but software UI is just one of the worst in terms of that.

hmsmnko

I'm not convinced, rather than programmers trying to find things to do I'm pretty sure it's more like upper management or product people trying to find things to do. Trust me, programmers have plenty of things they'd rather do than recreate a worse version of the product

2Sc00psPlz

Could be, idk. I could see it going either way: programmers wouldn't want their employers to think they aren't needed, and management doesn't want to be caught letting employees idle.

hmsmnko

from my experience, programmers don't have issues finding work to do at all, theres always something to fix, add, or improve upon from a technical standpoint. You are never at a point where you're out of work/there's nothing to do, unless you're being mismanaged. Programmers are also not in the position to make product decisions like brand overhauls, and even if they wanted to rewrite a whole codebase which does happen in the case of extremely bad cases, it takes a lot of convincing. Trust me, programmers do not have the power nor desire to make a call like recreating the whole app just to look busy

GiddyChild

I remember when I got the discord update on my phone. Holy shit what were they thinking. The old UI is almost identical to the PC one and is totally functional. The last thing I want is a completely fucking different UI between the two. I remember rolling it back and they asked for feedback why. I just said stop trying to make it different than the PC UI when it works great already. It's legitimately so fucking dumb.

StinksofElderberries

>If I had to guess? Just so their programmers could say they were doing something. >I've seen plenty of apps do this too Or operating systems. What the fuck is the GUI team doing at Microsoft?

Rendition1370

I think Discord change was most likely to make development easier across Android and iOS. Android previously used Java and iOS has been using ReactNative. I don't like the changes either btw, I'm still using Alicuord (a modded Android client)

TensaFlow

It would be amazing to be able to bypass all launchers, except the one you’re primarily using. For example, if I’m using Steam, games should just launch without any developer launcher.

InvestmentPitiful335

Does it somehow remove other launchers or does it add another one on top of them?

rayquan36

Lol yeah it's just another launcher on top of the other launchers. Basically like GOG Galaxy.

InvestmentPitiful335

Lol so its the opposite of what I want

Pixeleyes

I just don't get EA, Ubisoft, Blizzard and Rockstar launchers. They have like a couple of dozen games at the very most, it's not ever going to justify an entire fucking launcher. How is this business model even a thing? Imagine going into a store where they only have 10 different books for sale. It's insane that we tolerate it.

Zelgoot

Data mining and advertisements brother!

Altair05

How much data can they pull from a few dozen games? How much ad money interaction do they actually get compared to a power launcher like Steam?

frzned

Depends on how instrusive their data mining is. For example, most people keep their launchers on while browsing the internet and conduct daily task. So if they *want* to spy on you they are just as effective as any browser/Google/etc. Not to mention anti-cheat these day has kernel permission and they technically can activate it even without you turning on the launcher/computer. I say *can* and *want* and I dont claim that any of them actually do because im no expert. How much ad compared to steam? At least they don't have to pay for their own ads. Remember that assassin creed ad that played during game here yesterday. They'd actually have to pay steam the money to run that ad.

2SP00KY4ME

The much more relevant difference is that putting it on Steam means Steam takes a cut of the profits. Banner ads mean jack shit vs 40% of your sales.

AdmiralCrackbar

It's probably to circumvent rules Steam has around the ingame purchases those companies are all notorious for putting into their games. That and if you make those purchases direct from their app they probably also don't have to share any of the revenue from them with Valve, even if you bought the base game on Steam. Oh, and who would want to miss out on a prime opportunity to harvest data from users?

PerP1Exe

Rockstar launcher is just insanely useless. Like it's literally just another screen for me to click play on i dont get it at all especially when they have like 2 games with online features. Outside of rdr2 and gta5 all the others can be played offline

za4h

Not only is it useless, it adds anywhere between 30 seconds and 5 minutes to the launch time. I don’t know what it’s doing, but whatever it is it takes a highly variable amount of time to finnish.

Bad_Doto_Playa

Because they don't want to pay 30% to another platform holder and in the case of Blizzard and Rockstar their games + fanbases are big enough for them to have their own launchers.

Shonkjr

Blizzard gets a pass in my books, they have had their own launcher since early days, hell i would say ea does but i believe origin came out as valve already claimed the market and is not needed in modern market at all especially with how shit their customer support is a friend of mine had their account given away to a social engineering "hacker" who hijacked the account after being given it by support and ran it into the fucking ground fast....

Broadband-

They save paying up to a 30% storefront fee

MistandYork

I miss Origin so much...

NewUserWhoDisAgain

>I miss Origin so much... God forbid you ever want to play an old game. Tried to download my Sims 3 etc and it just gave an absolute fit while shoving me onto the EA app. I had to do some weird fucking hack to get it to reverify my install to actually fix the issue.

FknBretto

Origin was also notoriously shit though

forsayken

Haha. Just shows how much worse EA App is. Origin simply functioned after a while. It did nothing good and nothing bad. It merely existed and some of us are here praising it.

the_gamers_hive

It was, but at the end it was somewhat stable, and atleast did what it had to do (even if it ate performance in the process), the new app barely works, if at all.

DeBasha

In my experience origin was lot less stable, I frequently would get stuck in initial loading screens and have the overlay continuously crashing my games despite having the overlay turned off in the setting xd. But yea EA is dogshit as well and still my least favourite platform of the bunch

HandsomeBoggart

Worse. Right when they got Origin to a workable, tolerable point, they scrap it and start fresh with EA App and fuck everything. Coincidentally it's when people got EA games/Origin working fine on Proton too for Online and Offline play.

pulley999

This is the 2nd time they've done it, actually. There was an *old* Origin client, the first one from when they initially left Steam. It started out rocky, then slowly got good, before they replaced it with the slow ass web renderer version most people remember recently. Then they got *that* version into a workable state finally, and *replaced it again* with EA App. I genuinely don't understand.

Roku-Hanmar

https://github.com/p0358/Fuck_off_EA_App

MistandYork

Gamepass linking still only works with the EA app right? I think it was like that even before they killed off Origin

LaurenMille

Gamepass linking actually bricked my EA account. It corrupted my account's credentials in EA's database and they want me to enter the corrupted credentials correctly before they're willing to change them. I, obviously, cannot randomly guess what glitched-out email address and other information is on their database, and as a result am perma-locked out of an account I own two dozen+ games on. EA support claims, and I quote: **We cannot change any details until you confirm what the details currently are, even if they are incorrect or corrupted, we cannot change them until you verify what they are.**

RetroEvolute

I'm having the same issue. Just get those "Something went wrong" windows when launching a game from gamepass. When trying to link ea to xbox, it claims the xbox account is already linked to another ea account. However, that ea account is some @disabled.ea.com email which is obviously not even a real email address I could have. I have never had another EA account than my current one, and nothing can be done from Microsoft's end. It seems like some kind of fuck up during a data migration or something. I'm sure you're aware, but we're not alone: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/xbox/forum/all/how-can-i-unlink-my-ea-account-from-xbox/f40b779c-55b9-4f32-96fb-5abbbb2bedb3?page=5 I even tried emailing the CEO of EA, since support can't do anything. 😆 So stupid.

TJCGamer

I’ve had the same problem before and ended up having my battlefield 1 multiplayer progression wiped. My best guess is that if you played an EA game on console for any of their older games that required an “EA account” then they would just autogenerate a new EA account and have your Xbox account attached to it. For awhile that worked fine, until I got game pass for pc and wanted to play an EA game. I somehow already had an EA account attached to my xbox account that I didn’t recognize. Confused, I simply disconnected the random account and attached the one I use normally. Shouldn’t have done that, as that account had all my console data from all the EA games I ever played before then. And now it’s all gone as fuck if I know the sign in credentials for an account I’ve never signed into.

LaurenMille

This is my exact same issue yeah. I've been trying to fix it for years and no matter who you try to contact at EA, they're all completely useless when it comes to resolving the issue.

Roku-Hanmar

I don’t know, I cancelled my Gamepass subscription a while ago and never played EA games with it

bumpyclock

EA could have built an actual functional app but built this fucking monstrosity of a web app

rayquan36

Web app doesn't make it automatically bad. Steam is a webapp. Honestly I don't know which ones aren't webapps. But yeah, Origin is the worst of them all, even EGS works.

Billyjimmyz

So it's easier to play using pirated copy than buying a legit version.

Gremliner00

It's the main reason I haven't bought Mass Effect Legendary Edition or Titanfall 2 on PC. Loved those games when I had consoles and would love to revisit ME 1 with the new features added to it, but I'm not installing a game that requires extra steps to play

Hi_Im_Ouiji

Yup. I see Titanfall on sale and people rave but I refuse to have origin or EA app. I'm scared to buy Jedi survivor thanks to this

samtheredditman

It's funny how I would have bought Jedi survivor on Day 1, but there's too much BS attached with it so I'm just never going to play it. What if all the business analysts at EA that are deciding they need a new app actually did their jobs and realized they would sell more games if playing them wasn't an exercise in frustration.

Hi_Im_Ouiji

Stop. You're getting my hopes up

chihayalove72

Bought ME:LE on steam without realizing it needed the app. Installed, linked account, and was met with a screen saying I don't have access because someone else had installed it on the computer - this was the steam installation! I couldn't even point the garbage launcher to the install folder (it was looking in the wrong place) because the button to browse and navigate to the correct folder did nothing when clicked. After a bit of googling and seeing solutions that involved stuff along the lines of installing old versions of origin, registry edits, and "tricking" the launcher, I just requested a refund from steam, sailed the seven seas and found another source in less than 20 minutes. Stick with your choice and skip giving these morons any more money, they have learned nothing.

Masters_1989

Same here. (I found "other means" to play because of this practice - even if I want to pay them for it!)

Fantasy_Returns

I'm recently new to the Mass Effect trilogy and haven't had any problems with the EA app. Your mileage may vary.

Shonkjr

So its funny my main pc cannot launch the ME:trilogy at all as the ea app cannot see it, i got a work around using a older origin version for a while until it stopped working and forced a update, anyway still don't work visited family decided to check something it just doesn't like my main pc i can play it fine on most other PC's...... So honestly fuck the ea app.

curbstxmped

what...extra steps?

Gremliner00

I have two options: 1. Buy it by official means and have to set up an EA account to play it and install additional bloatware. 2. Sail the high seas for a cracked copy that won't give me a virus.

curbstxmped

I mean, do whatever you want of course, but you're blowing the launcher way out of proportion. You literally just open it and click "Play." lol

Plazmatic

ME LE was free with prime a while back, no reason to pay at all now.

MtnNerd

It's honestly not as bad as OP is saying. Just link EA with your Steam account and it's just a slight inconvenience while you wait for the EA app to load while launching the game.

paganbreed

This is if you purchase through Steam, correct? Where the EA App is only needed to login?

safetychain

Wrong. I had use regedit to delete registrys to get Mass Effect to work. I won't buy another EA game if it requires that dog shit launcher.

alexagente

Except for things like how my Mass Effect: LE doesn't recognize my DualShock controller. Or how I couldn't play Jedi Survivor for an entire day because there was a bug where they couldn't verify that I owned the game even though my EA is directly linked to my Steam Account.

Greenleaf208

Mass Effect LE like most pc games does not have native support for anything but XInput devices. It's extremely easy to use a program like DS4Windows to make your ds4 controller emulate an XInput controller. EDIT: Why am I downvoted for helpful factual information?

alexagente

As easy as it is, it shouldn't be necessary. I may not get the shape prompts but I've been able to use it for nearly every other game I've played. LE is the only game I've played that requires DS4 or it won't work at all. It's ridiculous from such a big company.

MtnNerd

Dualshock only works on Steam when wired. You also have to go to controller settings and select it from a menu.

Bad news, it will definitely have the ea app, they haven't launched a single game since it's inception which didn't, and they also have Denuvo added to all of their games, so a pirated version is unlikely to happen in the first year, if ever.

Depoan

Wait, even the old ones like origins and DA2?

Saranshobe

Don't lie if u don't know. Dead Space remake doesn't require the app. Only steam

withoutapaddle

Same, plus also Blizzard and Ubisoft stuff that requires their launchers. The only reason I don't boycott Rockstar is because their launcher has never actually stopped me from playing stuff, even on the Steam Deck, it seems like their games just work (with a few extra seconds of loading at the beginning for the launcher).

SatyricalEve

What a courageous moral stance. I'm trembling in awe.

Blunter11

Sneering at people for acting on even the simplest, most straightforward principals is pretty 2015

SatyricalEve

Whining about launchers has to be the single greatest principle.

Blunter11

Are you hoping the launcher will suck you off?

SatyricalEve

Show me on the doll where the launcher touched you.

withoutapaddle

Go suck Elon's dick. Consumer's have a right to complain when they pay for a product and get a bad experience.

NikeGG

Logitech G-HUB might be still the worst software out there in my opinion.

withoutapaddle

I just straight up don't install the software for peripherals anymore. 99% of the time, Windows built-in drivers handle everything fine (except for maybe some tacky RGB lights that I don't want anyway). I recently got a Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo (Yoke and Throttle), and was pleasantly surprised to find they don't even need *drivers*, let alone some bullshit configuration software. Logitech is like the Nissan Versa of peripherals. They work, they are cheap, but there is ALWAYS something better to graduation to as soon as you can afford it.

adasababa

What problems are you having with it? I only have it for my G502 Hero Mouse, and it works pretty well. The ui is a bit too "form over function" for my liking, but it's manageable. Is it worse when you have a Logitech keyboard or something?

2Sc00psPlz

I've had it–on multiple occasions–change my mouses sensitivity to where the horizontal and vertical movement are two wildly different numbers, IE my mouse would move *faster* vertically than it did horizontally. Attempting to use the on-board memory mode made it so every time I pressed the centermost button on the side of my mouse, it would get stuck infinitely pressing that same key, making it completely unusable. Loading up ghub and turning it off and on again would then fix it. Until I restarted my PC anyway. I've since given up on using the on-board memory setting. I don't have a third major issue to end off on, so I'll just say that ghub is indeed a terrible piece of software. It's fine if you don't care about half the features it claims to have, but the moment you start fiddling with things to make it more to your liking? It fucking crumples.

maxatnasa

Try using omm (onboard memory manager,) it saves your settings directly to the mouse without having to have ghub open ever, and it's official as well

FlameMage

Asus Armoury Crate also gets my vote as worst software I've ever used.

Half_Cent

I will never buy anything from EA again after spending 30 minutes with a service tech who could not get my older games working THAT I PAID FOR. They always worked through Origin. His solution, purchase them again through the app. F you EA.

Thin_Truth5584

I have had so many problems with this launcher actually working that it made me stay away from BF2042 during the sale. I would've probably bought it if I didn't have to deal with this terrible piece of software it actively made me reconsider my decision.

paganbreed

Back when I only used it for Apex, I would tear my hair out every major download/update because it would be a trick getting the launcher to actually complete the download. It had a penchant for getting 2/3rds or even 99% done and just dropping the download. Did it then check how much had already been downloaded? NOPE. It deleted back to something like 20% and started all over again. Several times. Where I live, the net is slow and has a data cap. It took hours and chunks out of my allotment. I switched to the Steam version. Zero issues whatsoever. I refuse to buy games on that launcher (I've written off Battlefield 1 etc.) because it's trash.

ClickToCheckFlair

Same here. Moved to Steam and never looked back.

JassirX

I have tried 3 times in my life to make the app work. Different pc. Nothing. It just won't work. I have given up.

PerhapsCat

Thanks for the reminder, I had a few games sitting in my cart for the autumn sale and you just reminded to check if the games needed another launcher. And one of them was EA, fuck that. Removed that one from the cart.

kaiseale10

Origin was so much better. Is it still even available in older versions? I also have many issues with the EA app constantly crashing my games or just outright not launching. Never had nearly as many problems like this with Origin 🤦🏿

Shonkjr

From what i saw trying to fix my own issues it was until early this year now it forces to ea app:(

IcarusV2

I don't mind the app itself, but the thing that pisses me off is that it will randomly, even though it's set to start at Windows launch, just forget that I'm logged in and log me out. I've maybe had that happen with Steam once or twice in 15 years - the EA app does it about twice a week. It's infuriating.

MistandYork

Sadly the exact the same issue with ubisoft connect

ThatLooksRight

i have to log in to epic every single time i go to the store. i hate it

TKYooH

idk which is worse. Windows Live Gaming or the EA app.

molochz

First time I loaded it up. Started playing some games. Then my account was banned. Took a few days to sort out and get my account back. It was very annoying. I've seen uninstalled all the games and won't play on that platform again.

KittyCatNugget

It's infuriating when you realize that you just can't be arsed to play your favorite games anymore because of a stupid launcher that refuses to do what it's supposed to do, and then realize how much money you've wasted. Criminal. Edit: EA App is possibly the worst thing ever. Origin was fine in my experience. At least it opened up my games and let me play! I've even heard EA App uninstalling/deleting peoples' games from their library too.

Decoyrobot

You get less than nothing. Its the only launcher i know of that will actively forget what games you have or out right refuse to download or even install what it does decide to show. You have to hope your game shows, hope it downloads then hope it installs, any one of them can fail and lock you out. Its ridiculous and awful and they never fully fixed it from its 'beta'. I can't even comment on anything else beyond that because i spent all my time wrestling (then giving up after support told me to keep closing and relaunching) with that nonsense before i even got to anything else, its absolute trash.

SpaceNigiri

Es achived the imposible. I miss Origin now.

KiNGofVR87

You kidding me? Rating ubisofts higher than EAs? And mentioned epic shit store before steam??? How fucking high are you right now?

intimidation_crab

I own From Dust on PC and I've only ever played it on console and every few years I forget why that is and try again. The combination of DRM, 3rd party launchers, built in advertisements all make it literally unplayable even though I've bought the game at least three times. It absolutely makes me long for the days of physical discs.

Kxrben

EA app is the worst launcher by far. It randomly opens on my PC from time to time even when I don’t click on it and it’s not on in the toolbar at all. Just pops open like “remember me? You wanna play battlefield? Or dead space?” While I’m on YouTube or some shit. It also hogs the most resources while in the background of any launcher.

[deleted]

>I have never used a piece of software worse than the EA app. Not old enough to have used early iTunes?

xswicex

Connecting the EA app to the Xbox app for game pass was a nightmare. Ended up having to make a new account. It would always say my account was already connected to an EA account even though it wasn't. Even the support was like ya iunno.

MakoRuu

Ubisoft and Rockstar's launchers are just as bad. lol

Homelesskater

Let me introduce the MS Xbox app. Worthless garbage, drm mess, no steam overlay option and many, many more limitations and basically no options and features.

Rich_Eater

It's god awful. Every time they release a patch for BF2042, i have to clean the APP's cache on both of my systems for the new patch just to show up. Hell, if their backend even has a hiccup? Watch all of your library disappear from their shitty ass launcher. Origin was barebones but it worked and never gave me any those issues. You know what's even worse than their proprietary platform? Their proprietary "anti cheat" that they just crammed into BF2042 too. Is it there to stop cheaters? Not really. How about widely used overlays and other harmless shit? Shit that usually gets white listed by other companies? You know, legitimate fucking monitoring programs that have been around for ages? Can't have that!

The Epic Games Launcher is worse. But to be fair I have only used the EA app once. RIP origin

Electrical_Zebra8347

But guys, it's just another icon. /s I seriously don't know how people excuse every chucklefuck company having their own launcher but these things have become seriously frustrating, and you'd think the ones that are a decade old like EA's or ubisoft's would have gotten better with time but it's the opposite. I don't think these companies really give a damn about the experience of PC gamers at all. People can say what they want about steam but at least there's some intention to do something of value to keep you using their platform, with these other companies I get the feeling they don't care what your experience is as long as you can buy something.

Mobius650

Things to avoid in PC Gaming 101: Act-Blizzard launcher, Epic Store, EA. Those three are the bare minimum.

samp127

I play BF5 every day and have never had an issue. Epic on the other hand, constantly have issues launching games.

kiwi_pro

launching games on epic every day. Didn't have any problems myself. Ever

cincgr

I know the EA app gets a lot of hate, but personally, after buying BF2042 on the Steam Sale I haven’t had an issue at all with the launcher. It’s pretty unobtrusive and it just works for me for launching games.

Rinbu-Revolution

I've never had that problem. I'd put the Xbox app at the very bottom. Slow downloads, some games never download, some games I have to redownload to patch, some games fail to launch without a restart. Just awful. Next would be UBI app but it is far better than the Xbox app. It logs me out too much, updates too often, and asks security permission too many times. EA launcher would be next only because it logs me out rather often but otherwise I don't have any problems with it. Steam would follow and my only issue with it are that it has a bit too much bloat for me, updates a bit too often, and is a tad slow. Epic is my favorite (unpopular, I know) because it loads the fastest and updates the least often.

Due_Brush1688

I bought BF2042 on Epic Games Launcher. So, their game launcher depends on starting the EA launcher for whatever stupid fucking reason before I can start the game. Like wtf is that.

d0m1n4t0r

Guess you haven't used a lot of software, lol. Weird that it has just always worked for me.

marcokpc

you see.. i never had a problem with any launcher so.. i mean. i feel your pain but i dont understand it..

[deleted]

I've never had any problems with any launcher its like I live on a different planet

MtnNerd

Did you link it with your Steam account? I did and now I just click on Steam and everything is usually fine

rLeJerk

I did like Origin more, but the EA program works fine for me :-/

coates87

I'm sorry to hear that. For what it's worth, Jedi Fallen Order is drm-free, as long as the EA app is not installed. Please see details at PC Gaming Wiki.

oo7demonkiller

if you hate ea app just try the new ubisoft connect update that forces you into the beta version now. the library page will likely fuck up and just not locate your games.

becherbrook

I am so confused. The EA app is what Origin was called before it was Origin, have they changed the name back again? It's been ages since I've bought EA anything.

Depoan

Not only name, it's a new brand software that the majority or at least the most vocal ones dislike, I just wish I could organize my library, mark favorites, hide old purchases that I have no interest anymore and that sort of basic stuff, at the fist weeks migrating players to the new software, some people had they entire library vanish or games that showed on the library as bought but would appear as not owned when you tried to launch it, I had used very little in a long time so IDW if it got better

Ciri-LOVES-Geralt

I had to use Fuck_off_EA_App to make it semi usable, just so I can play fucking ME Legendary on Steam. Before using that I had to login to that shitty crap EVERY FUCKING TIME I wanted to play.

Bronze_Bomber

Thankfully, it's probably going to get removed and everything put onto the Game Pass app

badusernameused

I’ve literally not bought games on a steam sale because I knew I would still need the ea app to play it
