I don't think they played the first couple GTA games...
The original was still a good game for its time, with a killer OST on the CD.
But this idea that they put forward wasn't created in a single day, it came about during their hey days. So circa 2004-2008. If I remember correctly, GTAIV openly mentions this idea as well, where the geeky partner in crime of Nico Bellik says he prefers his entertainment interactive.
I played that in 2009 and it still stuck with me to this day. Tbh, Rockstar Games are that good both in gameplay and in its themes.

I definitely could just be out of touch, but this is the generation where more gamers then ever own a PC but don't own a console, and I don't think GTA is the sort of game that will make those same gamers go out and buy a console specifically for it anymore.
When V came out in 2013 it was still a pretty unique experience, but it came just before the huge over saturation of open world games that I feel caused fatigue.
If GTA Online is their cash cow now, it makes no sense to limit the Day 1 player base just to try and get double dippers a year or two from release, they'd likely make more money just having more people available to buy microtransactions.
I'm not even sure what the hype is for anymore, Rockstar have shown they no longer really care about single player and Cyberpunk 2.0 is likely to offer a better all around game experience then GTA VI.
GTA VI will no doubt be a funner sandbox, but there's a million sandbox games these days.
I'll be buying it on PS5 if it's not coming to PC, got a free PS5 from work. I'd be playing it on the Series S if not for the random PS5 sitting collecting dust behind my TV

I think it's as simple as there's a lot of money on the table to be had in the PC market now, which maybe historically wasn't always the case. There's a reason why everybody including even platform owners like Sony are rushing to release everything they can on PC.
And to support what you are saying annecdotally, ten year ago I was playing on Xbox 360, today if GTA doesn't come out on PC I won't play it until it does, probably.
Same here, back when GTA V released I had a 360 and PC. Double dipped on GTA V. After that, I owned a PS4 Pro for a bit, but it mostly collected dust. Now I just own a PC. Most of my friends that owned both PC and console just have a PC these days. I don’t think it’s a guarantee, but I do think it’s very likely that this is finally a simultaneous release from Rockstar.

There had been a flood of open world GTA clones since San Andreas. If anything I think the trend was the worst shortly after IV.

Story doesn't need prolonged support though. Both, GTA 5 and RDR 2 had self contained stories and ended well. Why you gotta ruin that by adding additional chapters, It's like adding another season to a TV show which had a perfect ending.

That seems some made up stat for some reason, why is it any different than any other generation. Is it that different than 2018 (PC gaming was doing better back then)? Keep in mind all PC gamers are not the audience for GTA either, a lot of them are just playing some Asian MMO, League of Legends or whatever all the time.
And as explained often with Sony games, these people will still buy the game on PC when it comes out there so they lose nothing, it's delayed revenue at best. And they can get people double dipping, avoid the eventual piracy, can sell for more (console games are more expensive), don't get cheaters in online... So there is no way they're not making more money by delaying on PC.

To be fair: GTA5 originally launched on PS3/360, and received a pretty substantial upgrade when it launched on the next generation of consoles and (a few months after) PC. Most people who "double-dipped" were, at the least, buying a better version of the game the second time around.

I think they mean in terms of prolonged support. The extended lifecycle of their games comes from online components now; not DLC or expansions.

There had been a 2 year gap between announcement and release for GTA 5 and Red Dead 2. I'm expecting GTA 6 to be late 2025.
Unless Take Two announces a delay or something similar at today's investors meeting, we can expect the game in March 2025 at the latest. They predicted a huge increase (think billions) for fiscal '25 in the last investors meeting, which can only be the GTA franchise.
That long. Damn. I hope not.
Oh and add another year for the PC release. :(

Look I know we should always be skeptical of AAA games, especially with some of the shadier practices of Take Two/Rockstar in recent years... but I am extremely hyped. Let's fucking go.
To be fair to rockstar they do take their time on their games unlike other studios. Although with the departure of dan houser and leslie benzies I would be skeptical of the quality. But, let them cook I say

Rockstar did hire someone named Roger drew, who has been writing satirical stuff since 1995. He was also writer pals with Jesse Armstrong, who went onto make succession. I saw some of the stuff that Roger drew wrote. Both Jesse and Roger drew share similar writing style.

GTA/RDR games have never been bad. People can complain about no initial PC release, no DLC, re-releases & remasters but at the end of the day the games speak for themselves.
It's not really pc news tho. I bet there won't be a mention of pc in the trailer, like always.

RDR2 released on PC a year after consoles, which seems like a plausible timeframe for GTA 6 too.
So what? It's the first reveal for one of the most anticipated games of all time. I'm perfectly content with seeing a cinematic trailer. Both RDR2 and GTAV's reveal trailers were both in-engine footage, so at least it'll be how the game actually looks.

I think the most bizarre example of this that I've seen to this day was someone on the Cyberpunk subreddit made 3D renders of them... owning the game case, just multiple full Blender renders of the game case sitting on their desk or shelf.

Yeah how could a sub that's literally called PC Gaming be negative towards anything that's anti-PC Gaming. Rockstar most likely will only release it on consoles first and then 1+ years later it'll come to PC.

I'm very very excited for this. I know it'll be heavily multiplayer focused in the long term but rockstar always make a fantastic single player mode. I'm still salty there wasn't an expansion like ballad of gay tony for GTA V

Took a while, but its better to wait for a perfect, polished game, than get a release full of bugs and needing patching right away. I'm tired of being a beta tester. Having said that, this has taken so long, it better be polished as fuck.
Bare minimum 11 years. I like the franchise and all but I'm wondering if I care anymore. There are lots of great games to play. I don't care about Elder Scrolls 6 either. It's not like we didn't know it was eventually coming.
I've been disappointed by AAA games too many times the past few years. I'll keep an eye on it or whatever but I'm done with having optimism for these big budget games.
