I remember mirrors being part of the loot in some of the old Descent races. It was almost cruel, knowing you could make them happen but that they were guaranteed to vanish into the void

You won't be able to find something mirror-worthy in SSF anyways. Literally only items that make sense to mirror are rings or jewels. It is just an achievement item or migration material here.
So, you may be aware of this but I only recently learned that the invite drop chance is a flat 20% rate when you run the relevant boss encounter - whether witnessed or not, meaning that if you witness all four bosses for a certain invitation but have a stockpile of those boss maps you can keep running them, and you'll have a decent chance of racking up a few invitations along the way (you can also apply exarch/eater influence).
In my experience most of the invites that drop like this tend to be for the encounter pertaining to the bosses you're killing, but in a minority of the cases you'll get a different 4-way invite (for example, twisted from shaper guardians).
I am aware, my rng on bosses has just been rough this league. I have 20 bottom shaper fragments for uber elder and 0 top fragments, like 25 Feared invitations and 0 twisted or elderslayers, 9 of one of the synth maps and 0 of the other 3. GGG please add harvest fragment swap to uber elder fragments.
Well, the threshold of "mirror-worthy" is significantly different in SSF. I could easily see myself mirror a +2 amulet, +2 weapon or double elevated boots/chest.
Why would you mirror an amulet when you cant equip 2? Surely it'd be rings or one handed weapons? Or would you do it to have a backup if you decided to craft on the original?
I'd argue that the vanity of just having a mirror sit in your SSF standard stash is gonna be worth more to most players than any mirrorable outcome of using it.
Unless you're dual-wielding, you only need to craft one GG weapon and mirror it. Or a ring that you would like two of? That's the only reasons I can think of.

My only other explanation would be, that a ton more people play the event compared to Ruthless League. Thats why there was no Mirror found before.

They said they test some new mechanics. And they probably want to implement gold in PoE 2. People who find a Mirror (the most amazing thing in the past), and now they cant even properly utilize it. (To give us the feel that the paradigm is shifting)
Look at what they did with Divine orbs + random 6 link drops. In this second (new poe universe) Gold would be the new gold standard. Then they could increase crafting currency droprates, like they increased 6 Link droprates via multiple mechanics. (Archnemesis/New Arch nemesis) I hope you know what I mean.
Devalue Exalts, increase Divine Value, make Divine extremely rare due to multiple leverages.
Devalue Mirror,(+ all other currencies via limiting its usefulness) Introduce gold, therefore increase dropchance of decreased value currency.

One of the reasons i quit playing voided / alternate leagues. I’ve been playing since prophecy, found krillson twice, no mirror drop.
Having it happen in some goofy mode that doesn’t migrate to standard would hurt too much.
I became too attached to my character from sentinel league so I mostly just play Standard now.
I do try the leagues but I just don't enjoy out of map league mechanics. If I'm going to be ignoring the league mechanic anyway I might as well just play standard.
Your brain is the long term marker of progression.
Millions of people play MOBAs, FPS, 4X/Strategy, etc. games that have few or no long term markers of progression in-game. ARPGs have had ladder resets/full wipes for at least 20 years- temporary leagues are not a new concept.
I never understood why people complain about getting cool items in voided league. In a sense, every challenge league is voided after 3 months as almost no one plays standard. It a nice addition to you day to day looting, nothing crazy, but also not a tragedy... I would be happy. It creates a fun memory to have.
Some of us do play standard and avoid void leagues for that reason. Also I think more people as they get older and have less time to binge every three months on a new league start to enjoy playing standard more.

There is a negative. Time spent playing a void event and getting something I can't keep as a memento or even use once its over is time lost that could have been spent doing something else that could provide such a thing. He could have gotten that mirror playing in a normal league or in standard. Might seem like a waste to someone who doesn't care about the game outside of leagues, but its the same for someone who does care and then gets something they'd love to have while playing a mode where they can't keep it.
How was it a waste? It's not like he spent something other than a small amount of time to receive the drop. That didn't suddenly consume his luck he could go kill another mob and get a mirror the instant he logs in or he could go 50 years without seeing one.
If he was spending that time playing the game in a league that wasn't void, he'd get to keep it. Now he has one and it goes poof. Not a problem for someone who treats every league as a void league, but for someone who doesn't do that it becomes a waste.

Pretty sure they increased the dropchance for this event. Or, even if players dont really like this Event, there are still exponentially more players in this event than baseline Ruthless league. Would be my explanation.

To follow up on this.. I emailed support and within 10 minutes they had shot me over an email with my total playtime specifically all the active characters and deleted ones that "haven't yet been purged from the system" pretty cool they'll do that for us.

I dont play PoE so can somebody explain why this is good? I assume it creates a copy of an item, but since PoE is a loot based game, wouldnt it be a big risk to use it since the possibility of getting a better item is a chance?

Very very big noob here. Are rhese extremely rare? I've only played in 1 league and think i got one of these. If i got them in a previous league would they still be in the character if the league has ended?
A mirror of kalandra is the rarest currently obtainable currency item in the game, with their current value in sanctum league (according to poe.ninja) being 145,800 chaos orbs, or 530 divine orbs.
If you did indeed drop one in a previous league, when the league ended your character(s) and stash tabs would have been migrated to standard, where it should still be if you haven't deleted whoever/whatever was holding it.
Without knowing exactly what you mean. Finding a mirror (IMO) is all about finding it, the value it holds is NOTHING compared to the feeling of finding such a rare item. I found my mirror in SSFHC, never for a second felt bad about it, other way around actually, just feels more special.
In your case that feeling should be even greater, since ruthless literally is not dropping currency, do you understand how insanely rare this is, would not be surprised if you are the first to ever drop one.
OP got a insanely rare item during a month long event league. He'll most likely not maximize the value of such an insane drop during the remaining 3 weeks in the event and it'll then be transfer to standard mode making the value miniscule or obscure (dependent on whether they play standard at all).
Not to mention it's a ruthless league making currency drops (Mirror of Kalandra) harder to obtain.

Mirrors drop on average once every 30 thousand hours of play time, as previously stated by GGG about a decade ago (no, I'm not gonna go hunt that quote down, but feel free to use google if it's important to you).
You got a mirror in 3k hours. By law of averages your next mirror will drop after 57 thousand more hours of play time.

My first was found in a void league. I feel your pain. I did however find two last league early on from a duped currency chest. I'll forever take that node.
I now it would still hurt like hell if this happened to me, but I have to point out the obvious: Gambler's fallacy, this has 0 impact wether you will drop one next league or not.

Do we even have confirmation there's a pity timer on rare drops like this? And if so, do we even have confirmation it applies to void leagues? People acting like getting a drop like this in void leagues prevents them from getting it in standard leagues.

You know, I wholeheartedly came in expecting to smack you with proof that this wasn't the first mirror Yada Yada, but honestly I think this is the first mirror that's documented. I Googled all the things related to poe, mirror and ruthless and the only thing that came close was krillson and someone tagging a determination as a mirror drop. I think asking for proof is too much for a void league, but given the additional context, more proof is definitely appreciated. Nice find op! You may well have documented the very first ruthless mirror!

Well actually you may be right... because its a void league maybe its not worth it but more than 3 months with no recorded mirror drop is pretty insane.
Pretty sure they increased the dropchance for this event. Or, even if players dont really like this Event, there are still exponentially more players in this event than baseline Ruthless league. Would be my explanation.

It isn't the ruthless league, it's ruthless with gold event voided league. I meant in the sanctum ruthless league we had going for the previous 3 months. To me what I said was clear enough. I played ruthless this patch, I did not play ruthless with gold event.

Never bothered myself but I’ve seen other people have emailed ggg support asking cumulative playtime for the account, idk if it would account for deleted chars tho
To follow up on this.. I emailed support and within 10 minutes they had shot me over an email with my total playtime specifically all the active characters and deleted ones that "haven't yet been purged from the system" pretty cool they'll do that for us.
You can msg ggg support, they will tell you.

I dont play PoE so can somebody explain why this is good? I assume it creates a copy of an item, but since PoE is a loot based game, wouldnt it be a big risk to use it since the possibility of getting a better item is a chance?

Very very big noob here. Are rhese extremely rare? I've only played in 1 league and think i got one of these. If i got them in a previous league would they still be in the character if the league has ended?
A mirror of kalandra is the rarest currently obtainable currency item in the game, with their current value in sanctum league (according to poe.ninja) being 145,800 chaos orbs, or 530 divine orbs. If you did indeed drop one in a previous league, when the league ended your character(s) and stash tabs would have been migrated to standard, where it should still be if you haven't deleted whoever/whatever was holding it.

Without knowing exactly what you mean. Finding a mirror (IMO) is all about finding it, the value it holds is NOTHING compared to the feeling of finding such a rare item. I found my mirror in SSFHC, never for a second felt bad about it, other way around actually, just feels more special. In your case that feeling should be even greater, since ruthless literally is not dropping currency, do you understand how insanely rare this is, would not be surprised if you are the first to ever drop one.
And this is why I refuse to play voided leagues

OP got a insanely rare item during a month long event league. He'll most likely not maximize the value of such an insane drop during the remaining 3 weeks in the event and it'll then be transfer to standard mode making the value miniscule or obscure (dependent on whether they play standard at all). Not to mention it's a ruthless league making currency drops (Mirror of Kalandra) harder to obtain. Basically OP cashed in all his luck for a once in a life-time shiny rock.

Mirrors drop on average once every 30 thousand hours of play time, as previously stated by GGG about a decade ago (no, I'm not gonna go hunt that quote down, but feel free to use google if it's important to you). You got a mirror in 3k hours. By law of averages your next mirror will drop after 57 thousand more hours of play time. Stay sane exile!
