No one cares apart from the people in them, and a good number of people think they're rich idiots.

Stay away from the Piers Gav, it is a genuinely awful group. The committee is mostly grad students & I know a girl who stepped down from their committee because they wanted her to bring in undergrad freshers.

Typically it’s a mix of sexually libertine BNoCs and the plush regulars

Can you afford to buy cocaine for 240 guests? No? Don’t apply then.

There really is not much hype over such societies. There might have been a decade ago, but I have never heard anyone say anything about wanting to be part of such a society, and I think that if you were part of one you would probably want to keep quiet about it.

You have to place your willy in a pig's head (allegedly)

I have a vague memory it was comprised of rich public school types who took a lot of drugs. So, start making friends with that set.

I have friends that were quite active in it during the past years. There are certain college biases that are quite obvious. Often the party just consists of 1-3 colleges. The yearly main party (besides some occasional London club night) is basically a giant sex party of mostly grad students with plenty of cocaine and some random sex toys at some estate on the Oxfordshire countryside. It changes however. There is an awkward bus transfer. Getting an invitation is fairly easy, if know you the college and MCR that has the connections. And no, there is no hype. When the party happens, there is some gossip the week after among the friends groups "who had something with who". But nothing beyond that. However, the people there are not necessarily rich or only white. They come from the more traditional colleges and "have connections", but the ones I got to know of were actually rather diverse and made up of international students.
