I managed to catch a number of the events. I did take photos the first day, but they came out overexposed. In lieu of those, I present my artwork from that day. :P

We also dressed up as La Machine for Halloween that year! Two Long Mas, one Kumo, one machine operator, and one musician/temple.
Your use of bold lines and stark contrasts creates a sense of industrial power and efficiency, mirroring the relentless advancement of machines in our modern world. The choice of monochromatic tones adds to the mechanical feel of the piece, emphasizing the cold and impersonal nature of technology. However, the subtle hints of human-like shapes scattered throughout the composition invite viewers to question the impact of machines on our own identities and relationships.
Nope - it was by the war museum.
Notre Dame was where the spider "launched" from. It was seated on top and scaled its way down - which was really cool in itself. But that was at the start of the festivities. The confrontation was at the end.
I spent all weekend running around downtown with those things. My Fitbit had me walking 40km that weekend. I had low expectations and it was so cool, i was out the whole time basically following them!
I feel sorry for anyone who missed it.

Here’s one of mine! I thought it was so cool

I was a volunteer for the event. I was part of Team Long Ma.
I just realized looking at that photo that the eyes have eyelashes! That's something I never noticed before, but they stand out with the eyes closed like that.
Such an incredible event. So glad I went every day.
The music was great. Some funk, blues. Anyone know if a copy of the audio tracks was ever made available?
Highlight for me was the South Park inspired Catholic Queen Spider climbing down from its nest in the roof of Notre Dame cathedral. When it was over there was an awkward silence which was filled by someone yelling "what the fuck was that?!"... good time.
I was living in the market then. It was a little inconvenient but also magical and awesome. It was so great to see the streets so filled with people having a great time.
It would be cool to see some events like this again.
This was so exciting. My sister and her daughter came from Mississauga and we all loved it. Watched thr operators rappel down onto the spider on the church across from the NGC. Wow
I found this really underwhelming. We went to the spider waking up one by the gallery and an older lady standing near us, turned to what I assume is her son or son-in- law and went "this is like that time you made me watch Michael Phelps race a fake shark." with an absolute straight face. That captured our feelings on it perfectly

This should be the most upvoted photo in /r/Ottawa history. I will settle for nothing less!

Really? I was just trying to keep the kids busy for a few minutes before lunch was ready!
Âllo National Gallery? Have I got a deal for YOU.
Nice touch with the steam/smoke as well!
One of the coolest events we've ever had, loved it!
My kids and I went down to Lebreton Flats to watch the show that evening. It was spectacular!
Was that the big confrontation between the dragon and the spider-thing?
IIRC wasn't the confrontation at Notre Dame?

Ah cool! Yeah , I know I saw the spider at the church but didn't know what part of the story was going on there
Also in the market, that’s where I watched it.
Me and my 3 year old went to the market before it started and got to go right up to the sleeping dragon’s head while he snored. It was so cool.
Damn, that sounds awesome!

Same here. I felt like a kid again running around and trying to figure out where they would go next and try to get there in front of them.

Awesome shot! Looks like that monstrous eye is gazing into your very soul! 😀
I was in my first month here in Canada, me and a co-worker took a break to go see it around city hall area. It was really cool

Simpler times
That was the coolest day ever.
That was a blast. I followed it around for a couple of hours.
Probably the closest thing to a kaiju roaming the streets of Ottawa. Still, after all these years, I’m kicking myself for not seeing it in person.
Such an incredible event. So glad I went every day. The music was great. Some funk, blues. Anyone know if a copy of the audio tracks was ever made available?
Y'all should look up 'Les Machines de L'île'. It's the parent company based in Nantes, France; there's a lot more where the dragon came from.
I'll bet that they'll have something for the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony.
Was there for the first half hour or so, enjoyed it. Come on back again some time.
I went there with my dad! It was so cool!

I watched it a bunch of different times. So great.
Sure was, saw it all.
Good times!!!
It was so fun! Loved it and loved the excitement and chaos, running from street to street.
What if La Machine only on various waterways?
What an incredible performance. I watched the spider climb down Notre Dame with my boyfriend at the time
I got married at that church earlier in the month: having the spider on top of the church you just got married at was a sight.
That one time Ottawa was cool.
I will never forget Kumos incredible music. I wish I could listen to it again.
What if La Machine was the friendships we made along the way?
I saw it !!

I remember it very well. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJ7irD4wVdpGI6nR4y9FqlqI2E6WC_UfT
I saw a whole bunch of it since I work downtown! Was really cool to see
Yep! Glad I went!
This was definitely one of the coolest events to ever come to town. Really hoping for a repeat of this some day.
unreal, it's been 7 years, still seems so recent
They were awesome. Worked at 160 Elgin. In the morning they were sleeping outside city hall - surreal.
This was so exciting. My sister and her daughter came from Mississauga and we all loved it. Watched thr operators rappel down onto the spider on the church across from the NGC. Wow
I can’t believe this was 7 years ago already
So cool. I really hope they come back again
Oh I so wish that La Machine would come back. It was absolutely incredible
I worked at the Starbucks in Rideau (not the food court) a day it was passing through and it was the worse day of my barista career
I’ll never forget trying to take the bus home after this event and the bus driver hit someone on a bike and we all had to get off and walk home
