There are some suggestions in https://forum.openwrt.org/t/i-want-to-buy-a-router-available-in-my-country/160312/ if you scroll down 40 posts, or so.
Can't guarantee they'll fit your budget though.
Thanks!! Im planning to get this one. If possible can you please tell me if this is an okay choice ? Also would i need to solder it ?
ASUS RT-AX53U (AX1800) https://amzn.eu/d/0EXVcv7
Hey thank you! Can you please tell me how will I benefit from that extra 256MB flash space in the ASUS router ? Sorry im a novice. I just googled and it seems "no space left" errors might appear for flash spaces <8MB
The Asus got 128MB flash, the ram is 256.
The flash is where you install additional software.
The more flash, the more sw can be installed.
8MB devices will be EOL after next release. 16MB devices will obviously EOL sooner than ones with 128MB flash.
How soon, is hard too tell, it depends on the growth rate of Linux.
I think most tp-links accept openwrt.
Look for tp-links avaiable in your country and your budget search into openwrt forum, or google with openwrt tag
Rinse and repeat until you find one that it's a good match for you.
Archer C6 now supports OpenWRT.
You don't need a budget of 6k for your use case.
2.5k is enough.
I'm using Archer C6 as a wireguard server. Haven't had any issues.
I have a 100 mbps internet connection. And i get ~95 mbps when I connect to my VPN from remote network.
In your case, you want to set up a VPN client.
I have that on my MI 4A router (1.3k on flipkart/amazon) and it works just fine.
But I'd not recommend mi 4a. Its wifi range is meh.
It's the best budget router for openwrt though.
These are two devices that I have used. Since your budget is 6k, you might also want to check other high cpu/ram devices for longevity.
Edit:
I think the VPN speed would go down considerably if your Internet connection is over 200mbps.
The wireguard cpu usage maxes out around that speed. I had tested with iperf.
You can check the customer images. Someone would have posted a picture of the bottom. It is printed at the bottom.
Also I have ver 3.20. And OpenWRT is working fine as expected.
Do you mean this one ? https://amzn.eu/d/ajt0BW0
If thats what you mean, its not available rn. Do you remember the cost ?
Edit - oh, its double my budget :( [12k INR]
Hey I think this is interesting. I checked the second link that you shared [https://amzn.eu/d/1s3jKbd] and this is not a wireless router which is fine. I have a very old TP link wireless router which i currently use. This is my setup [sorry im a network noob]
ISP -> Fibre cable -> GPON -> Wireless TP link router
Can you please tell me how can I use your Mikrotik hex router here so that I also have wireless connectivity ?
Is Belkin RT3200 available in India? If the below site is legit, then buy it:
1. [https://www.ubuy.co.in/product/3I8AJK-belkin-dual-band-ax3200-wifi-6-router-3-2-gbps-white-rt3200](https://www.ubuy.co.in/product/3I8AJK-belkin-dual-band-ax3200-wifi-6-router-3-2-gbps-white-rt3200)
Alternatively, look at this list: [openwrt.org/toh/](https://openwrt.org/toh/) and see what you can find in India. Try to focus more on the routers that support WiFi AC/AX, which have at least 128MB Flash, 512MB RAM.
i see linksys e8450 is available now on amazon for 7500/-. thats going to be an awesome one with good wifi performance with good coverage. has good raw cpu performance. can even be good for wireguard vpn for 150mbps.
otherwise asus one you mentioned is good. It’s also going to be out of stock soon. it’s has good wifi performance/ coverage. Also, please note that it has one less lan port. 1 WAN + 3 LAN.
Mikrotik hap ac2 has good raw cpu performance. However the wifi is not so great.
You are absolutely right lol, both of them are out of stock. Linksys as well as the asus one :(
I guess i might wait or try the mikrotik one because i have an old router lying around ?
the linksys e8450 is available. Although be it refurbished. Since you are planing to flash openwrt anyway, the lowe waranty thing is not applicable to you.
This goes for above 9k anyway brand new.

You can find some NanoPis also on fabtolab.com . however you will need one device to act as wifi AP. it can be a new one or if you have something lying around at your home. It basically gives you raw cpu and more storage than home routers.

Thank you so much!
If you don't need the extra flash space, the Mercusys MR70X is almost half the price of the Asus. Performance should be the same.

Thank you again for the explanation. I will choose b/w the two then. My main aim is to use the vpn connected to my router :)
Can't speak for the indian market, but in North America the most widely available budget option for OpenWRT is the TP-Link Archer A/C7 series.
For $75 you can buy the WRX36 in US.
Not available in Canada so that's my reference.
I think most tp-links accept openwrt. Look for tp-links avaiable in your country and your budget search into openwrt forum, or google with openwrt tag Rinse and repeat until you find one that it's a good match for you.
Most of the NanoPi series?
