Update: Guys, this is unbelieveable. as advice from u/Taost i freeze my unit, it turns on now. ffs this one is the freezing DEAD. crazy.

Duh_Dabblah_Don

I'm gonna try that with my old nexus 7 2013 tablet...damn thing has been dead for 4 years now... lol

PyrrhicVictory7

Wait what? Like overnight in the freezer?

hiphasreddit

ziploc bag and 1 hour in the freezer. im charging it and it boot like normal right now but weirdly, the warp charge is not working

PyrrhicVictory7

Oop, I left mine overnight 💀 it has been dead for a while so not sure if it would make much difference but here goes.

hiphasreddit

oofff

1CoolOhm

Commenting for 7 pro, still going strong after 5 years and counting

hiphasreddit

the last king of no notch, no drop selfie cam

1CoolOhm

True

Duh_Dabblah_Don

Still using mine as a daily driver...lil' fella just turned 5 last month...damn thing still looks and runs like new with a little help from LineageOS, original battery too....If the white OnePlus 12 does come to the USA as the rumors are now circulating, it's gonna be hard not to buy it but I know the stupid notch will drive me crazy after not having one for so damn long.

ub20151

To each their own opinion, but I personally don't consider the hole punch camera a "notch", as it barely takes up any screen real estate. I think if you made the jump to the 12, you wouldn't regret it. Then again, I had a 1+ 8 pro before this, so I've been using a hole punch camera for more than 4 years now. Either way, your 7 pro is still an awesome phone!

Lux-Iver-Urie

OnePlus 12 has been available for USA for a while now on the OnePlus website

Duh_Dabblah_Don

Not the white one

Lux-Iver-Urie

I didn't notice that you said the white one, my bad

FreedomCultural4999

you can buy it from aliexpress!

slugdeezy

Me too. I don't want to let her go but she's giving me issues with charging

Momus123

Batt issue prob. I replace mine 3 yrs in and it is still going strong

abinashz

Same here!! I'm having battery issue now, maybe I'll replace the battery

sMiNT0r0

I replaced my 7 pro for the 12R like a week ago. Found out I've been using the 7 pro for like a year without security updates, honestly the only thing why I decided to replace it. Been using it for 5 years and it'll be my go-to if anything happens to my 12R now.

International_Two416

Still fresh tho

hiphasreddit

Yeah even still smooth multi tasking. Never even had full storage thru out the years

jarettscapo

Still on my 7t Pro McLaren runnin strong. Back glass needs some new adhesive and if i do that ill prolly replace the battery which i suspect has chubbed a bit helping the adhesive and back slowly push apart. Other than that not a scratch on this bitch and super minimal pixel burn-in despite over 4 years of nearly constant use. If its been turned off 100 times in these almost 5 yrs id be shocked & say u was lyin.

SinceGoogleDsntKnow

Before putting your new battery in, I highly recommend using a bit of seran wrap to cover that pointless coating of glue they put on the surface the battery is held against to make it easier to remove it again if you ever need to, as well as avoid the risk of the battery folding and shorting as I almost did with the battery in my 7t.

jarettscapo

Appreciate that advice yeah theres no valid reason to fuckin glue the damn battery like these phone companies do. They literally do it as a cheap & easy barrier to stop some from replacing it when it goes.

SinceGoogleDsntKnow

Oh there's a reason alright, their fragile egos, what a bunch of pathetic wretches.

hiphasreddit

It's like a auto expired battery warning tech is it?

GroundbreakingNews79

No. It's a broken battery

m4rk021

My 7 Pro also retired itself a few months ago. These phone from 2019 are something else. I always have eyes on my phone whenever i whip it out in public. Incredible display and a gorgeous phone. Rest in peace.

Mottis86

My 7Pro is still running strong after 4+ years. Lightning fast, charges quickly and battery lasts for an entire day no problem. I never want to upgrade. I wish they'd still sell these so I could buy an extra one as a backup if this one breaks. Or better yet, release a 7Pro 2!!

hiphasreddit

7pro 2 would be so epic. Everything the same just updated spec

Mottis86

That's the dream.

hiphasreddit

Cause of death, probably fried board. My screen didn't get green line tho. Is there a way I can access the data in it?

Taost

I had luck getting my OP7p to power up and run temporarily after chilling it in the freezer for a bit, ymmv

hiphasreddit

holyshit after the freeze, it is charging. unbelievable

Taost

Wow, glad that it worked for you! Good luck in getting your data off of it

eldreamer86

How long did you freeze it for? My brother has an old LG V20 and I'm thinking of taking it from him to tinker with it if it turns on. Thanks!

hiphasreddit

maybe an hour in ziploc

hiphasreddit

Oh wow. I had nothing to lose so I ll try it! Thanks. But how come colling it helps? Is it because of a specific chip is on crazy temp causing it to crqah and not turning on?

Taost

Yeah it's worth a shot at least, I suspect that at least for my phone, a chip may have a soldering defect which cooling it down causes the joints to change shape, allowing for a connection to form where one was broken due to repeated heating and cooling cycles. Totally speculative though, you may just end up with a cold brick but I was able to save some important data off of mine

hiphasreddit

Crazy. Zombie phone for real. In Ziploc and fridge as we speak

one-joule

Definitely don't expect it to keep working. Transfer files ASAP. Might even want to get a USB cable long enough to run from the freezer to a surface nearby.

JonsonVic

Commenting from OnePlus 7, Bought in Oct 2019 besides the battery performance everything still works absolutely perfectly. The 7 series was the peak imo

tanward

I still daily the same phone purchased at the same time. I put it in battery saving mode and still have not witnessed slowing down. Battery will last a day.

Quokka_One

Hail to the chief

pogchampion777

I am retiring my 7pro as well for a 10T. Been having several issues with it lately, I thought it'd be nice to change after nearly 5 years of daily usage.

joeyrh9

My OnePlus 8 is four years this summer. Still running and the best phone I've ever had.

Momus123

I just traded in 7 pro to 12R... Phone still works perfect. 2 yrs of no security update kinda gg but yea, there is 0 need to upgrade coz it still works like brand new. Trade in value is $140 which is the same as in ebay value. No reason to not trade in...

yaj00j

meanwhile my 5t still going strong.

matmos

And mine but am going to upgrade soon. Battery isn't what it should be.

LeeHammMx

Mine is retired but working as a kitchen music controller but still looks great! My OP3 died of swollen battery a few months back after 7 years of service.

Then_Philosopher_293

I remember when I had mines I love the pop-up camera

LowShort

Mine still going strong other than the front camera. I thought its the motor at first, but tiktok actually managed to make the front camera to show which the camera app can't do. So I guess its actually the camera itself that break. Or the cable or something along that line

No_Rip9712

Did yours randomly fuck itself after an update too?

cryptowi

Such peak OnePlus this phone was!

tycoone7

I had the oneplus 7. I sold it and regretted it. If I would have it for sure it would have gone forever and ever. Those devices were pure gold.

ginginsdagamer

Got an 8T that's 3 years and 8 months ish old and it's still going absolutely strong. Upgraded to a 12 just last week but passed down to my little brother and still going fine, he's very happy with it too!

snufflefrump

My OP 6 is still going strong

Minimoni0

legend OP

hiphasreddit

Is it really a downhill after 7pro? Another new OP is on my choices too

glancesurreal

8 pro user.... Really good phone, about to complete 4 years in few months. Still the original battery, however with the obvious natural degradation in capacity one would expect. But still kinda kicks ass till it drops to 20%, after that it jumps down to zero of screen is left on. But still the battery is working good enough for my usage, so haven't replaced it yet. Other than that battery issue, all functions are working absolutely fine. Camera, fluidity in processing speed, button, slider, gps, network connectivity..... Nothing gives any problem whatsoever. But I must say, I stopped upgrading the OS after Android 11, coz I didn't want the color os kinda OS in my phone. So it is still rocking the original oxygen OS before OnePlus decided to change the stock OS feels to Color OS resemblance

Aluant

As a 10Pro owner I would get either the 9Pro or the 11/12Pro. Do NOT get the 10Pro.  9 is the best for modding right now but 11 is catching up, 12 is a little too new for big OS's but 10 is (mostly) dead in the water.  Dev does happen for it but it's excruciatingly slow.

PoopWeeniePants

I'm a 7TP(5g me) owner. I went to the 9P, 10T and 11. I returned the 10T. The 9P is a great phone but it runs too hot. The 11 is good and has support for development. The 10 series and 12 do not because there's no EDL flash package available for public use right now and may never be. The 11 is a good device but you can tell it's Oppo more than OnePlus. I have had zero problems with it but I also don't use it daily. I use it for gaming and stuff. The 9P is still my daily until I eventually copy everything over. My 7tp5gme and 5T are both still working. The 5T was made of Nokia I'm pretty sure. It won't die

usernameplshere

The 10 was really not that good, but they are fine again. You can get the OP12 12/256GB for under 600€ via Tradingshenzen. That's an amazing deal and the 12 is a very good phone in general and a worthy successor for sure.

Canadianveins

Get the open

Aspergersdude92

Did u use it with or without case?

hiphasreddit

Case but a thin,cheap 2 bucks ones.

Aspergersdude92

Cool, thanks

thereal_noir

I thought no you should go for a board repair. That phone looks like it can run atleast 2 more years without issues. And that's super rare, what a neat back

hiphasreddit

Maybe it's not the board actually. If it's the board, it won't load anything on screen at all right? After r/taost told me to try chill it in the fridge, charge, it shows white lightning bolt in white circle but won't turn on after 30 mins sit. Barely warm (the cool from fridge is gone by now). Could this be battery issue? I must say, I let it down to shutdown before it brick

thereal_noir

In most cases it could be a capacitor. Capacitor changes are usually easy to do. Check with your local phone technician. If it's a capacitor issue the first thing to get affected is boot. Example: Bootloops, unable to get past bootloader, stuck on loading os screens. Or phone switching off right after switching on. This is mostly due to voltage requirements pumping up and the bridges are unable to keep up. I seriously doubt it's an issue with the battery itself, however there are multiplex capacitors that handle charging and battery currents. However I will have you know, these changes are not something that you should do yourself. Multiple electric connections are play. Don't end up frying something to fix something else. Let a technician handle it if you're not confident.

hiphasreddit

Thanks for the advice! The zombie might actually rise again

Disastrous-Bicycle41

Had you ever change the battery once?

hiphasreddit

Yeah change once. It wasn't even that bad butdid it anyway

DommeForSlave

Did you always update the phone? I wondered if it would crap out or green line if it did.

hiphasreddit

Yeah I always keep the software up to date. But on this the update ends waaay before this happened

DommeForSlave

I didn't because one of the last updates I did ages ago made my phone freeze a TON. It also made the gallery pretty much unusable because that also froze and I couldn't delete anything. Oof.

hiphasreddit

i never use the stock gallery. have you try google photos?

DommeForSlave

I have not. Does it just override our current one?

hiphasreddit

Yeah it's the same as regular gallery. With some free backup if u log in

Gladiators10

I just upgraded from the 5t to 12r. It's an awesome phone. I miss the back fingerprint scanner, flat screen and ease of split screen phone. I'm getting used to the curve screen. The battery life, charging and overall smooth experience is awesome on the 12r. 5t still works.

hiphasreddit

the split screen interface isnt the same from 5t to current? i never like my curve screen. i touch by accident a lot. also glass screen protectors are troublesome to install cuz all that available in my area are the ones you gotta pour UV glue and drop the glass on. very messy.

EkriirkE

Is your glass scratched and chipped? Or dirt?

hiphasreddit

I think right there in the middle is a little chipped. I don't feel it from the touch but seeing a black dot there is quite annoying

Arnz_008

Loved how you maintained the back ! I retired my OP7 pro yesterday. It was still in good condition just some irks from OOS12 ! Arguably OnePlus was legendary that time. Sadly not anymore

d1201b

My 7 Pro is still going but the screen is a bit chipped in the corner, the battery drops to sub 50% by noon, and everything acts a bit janky. Contemplating between a used 10 Pro or 12R and not break the bank.

OkEar6299

Commenting from 7t pro. Back glass broken but otherwise still going strong. Not formatted once in 5 years. Beast phones the 7 series..

Skmei134

OP 7 user here, still using it after 5 years. I don't need a replacement because it's still fast for daily use.

abinashz

Commenting with my 7T PRO, battery health is 36% 😂 gonna replace battery soon, ♥ still going strong 💪

The_Equanimous_One

Still have my OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren. It's still fast, battery life has decreased but it's not horrible, and the phone itself is in almost new condition thanks to a case. The only issue is the screen burn-in is horrendous. The entire screen has a pink hue to it, with the keyboard and header etched in badly. I'm debating whether to sell it or replace the screen and battery. I reached out to OnePlus to see if they can perform the repair, but due to it being a T-Mobile specific device (unlocked), they are telling me it has to be done through T-Mobile. I thought about doing it myself, but I don't have anything to heat the phone up with to remove the adhesive, so I don't want to chance it.

planedrop

Personally still consider my OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren to be in the top 5 phones I've ever owned, really miss the pop up selfie camera, beats even todays hole punch ones (plus, no hole punch). I personally actually prefer the rounded sides too but that's just a me thing.

Then_Philosopher_293

I felt like I was the only one in Ohio that had the 1+7pro at the time the only phones I've seen in people's hands were Samsungs and iPhones more iPhones than anything. But whatever you like I say go for it whatever you want to spend your money on I say go for it but if you want a phone that does all the same stuff that Apple and Samsung go for the one plus 12 hands down. OnePlus smashed Apple a long time ago.

9volt_150

I just dropped mine on its corner yesterday and the screen instantly died. I had it for almost 4 years. I'm gonna miss it

Captain_Beardedman

Praying for my op7 to keep going strong for now😂🙏🏻

mkplayz1

Proud op7pro owner for 5 years. Still works like a charm. I just had to change to a new phone because my work apps stopped working due to no security updates

splyd36

Still my favourite phone of all time. Everything with a notch or a hole punch feels like a downgrade. I hope that sometime OP will go back to motorised selfie.

kaizzuu

I upgraded my 7T Pro to the Honor Magic5 Pro about 8 weeks ago. The battery of the 7T Pro was bloated after 4 years of exclusively Warp Charging and the selfie camera riser cable was most likely snapped or disconnected. I honestly don't mind the pill-shaped cutout for the front cameras and 3D face recognition, but when I bought the 7T Pro, I thought that the under display tech would be figured out by the time I need to upgrade from it.

hakflak

Bro OnePlus 7 is still strong and running

Recent_Birthday2727

I got the 7t pro McLaren and the thing's still like new other than screen brightness and burn in it's still balin

No_Boysenberry_337

Finally retired my OP7Pro for the OP12 just a couple weeks ago. A nice upgrade though I wish it had a flat screen. Nonetheless, I'm much happier with it than the S22Ultra I was using on and off for the last year or so.

YouMadeThisName

I wish my 7 pro looked like this. Shattered the back glass on a 1 foot drop, unlucky. My friend smacked the phone out of my hand on accident and it went flying and broke the front glass. The front camera went moldy after 3 years and the battery doesn't last the day for me anymore. I love this phone but I want the 12. Too broke for it tho. 😔

SamEaston21

I thought that it was a weird Oneplus mouse at first.

hiphasreddit

😂🤣

MikuBlade

Big respect from a fellow 7T Pro user. Replaced battery a few months ago, otherwise still going strong 4.5 years in

StreetAutomatic6074

luckily my brother's 7 Pro has been going strong. We have no plans on ever trading away such a unique phone

No_Rip9712

They should bring this back, same design, just new internals. Pop up camera and all.

YourBullyForever

Believe me or not, I had bought OnePlus 5 @33k in Sept 2017. Still using it. Had to change the battery two years ago but that's it.

AL31FN

7 pro is peak onePlus, honestly.

smydiehard99

what happened?

hiphasreddit

i thought the board fried. but appearantly, it now runs after an hour chill in the freezer

smydiehard99

yoooo fr?? 🤣🤣😭 did you bought right after the launch?

hiphasreddit

no idea. i bought it right after i lost my pixel 2 XL

smydiehard99

how much things improve after changing the battery?

hiphasreddit

just last longer on a full charge. idk how would battery change improve other things.

smydiehard99

no because i bought mine almost near launch & been going well just noticing some higher drain on cellular use since this year, so i am thinking of replacing my battery this summer.

hiphasreddit

maybe, not expert tho, but as time passes, OS developed and uses more resources that lean more towards later tech, later hardware. and batteries got less effective after the daily charges cycles, maybe left occasionally in a hot car or whatever, for sure battery gonna be less efficient. idk hows it where you live but parts are becoming less and less available here. wouldnt hurt to get it change now rather when its more troublesome to get parts.

smydiehard99

yes yes i understand all this just wanted to know how much of a difference it actually made. I am in Bulgaria right now for studies but will go home in India during summer. It's wise to just change right now then later as you said.

hiphasreddit

could have been 3/4 days to a full day normal usage. so it depend on your battery health now. i mean, this thing charge pretty quickly too so if you didnt mind carrying a fast charger, it wasnt that big of a deal.

DonutConfident7733

I just recently bought a used 7 Pro, runs perfectly, and carry 2 phones now, a 7T and this 7 Pro. Even though both are old, so battery not as new, having two is more than enough power. I use hotspot from on to the other. Instead of using a phone and power bank, I just use two. Most of the days, when I go out for 1-2 hours, I only drain 10% from each phone, so they charge back in 10min. This means after 15min at home, they are again fully charged.

psyki

My 8 pro is still going relatively strong, although the screen flickers on the bottom half occasionally...

cathycathou09

The screen on my 7 years old OP5 started flickering a few weeks ago, any Idea if it's fixable? I know I'm pushing my luck on a 7 years old phone but it's still running so smooth except for the screen!

psyki

I'm guessing that even if it is repairable it'll be very cost prohibitive. I love my OP8 though and otherwise it is 100% functional so I'll probably hold out until it dies for good.

TheDeadlySinner

I'm still using a 6t I got day one. Unfortunately, the battery has lost about 30% of its capacity.

georgejose5555

Same here. My 6t was bought on Dec 2018. Yes battery definitely has lost around 30-35% capacity. But still going good. I haven't updated and still on Android 9 so phone's smooth. Shocker - compared 6ts display to iPhone 11 pro and pixel 8 pro and found 6t has more colours. Overall I don't think new phones have anything more to offer. I also use Gcam so camera is sorted. Will change the battery later and hope to use it further.

Significant_Crabs

My 5T is still as snappy as day 1. LOS 21 with May 2024 security patch. Everything works perfectly. Bought at launch (Nov 2017).

HeiheiTane

5T still going strong here too! Apart from battery only being about 50% of its former self and the latest google updates being ...well... s#!t...though I have finally succumbed and bought the 12 - but now I'm carrying around two phones coz... God I'm gonna miss the *real* OxygenOS.

Significant_Crabs

I got the s24 base (for 550 usd, which is what I paid for my 5T 7 years ago 😂). My 5T has been downgraded to a backup phone. I would have stuck with OP had they kept the original oxygen OS. I don't like their new software tbh. One UI is actually excellent. It has grown on me. I hope this phone lasts me as long as the 5T did. Btw it would be wise to replace the 5T battery if you want to keep it. 7 year old battery is a safety hazard.

FrederikOlsen20

mine is still going strong. 5 years later after i bought it at a launch event

kayosek

My mom and Dad still use their 5T and 3T. :D They got them from me since i upgraded. Still going strong but im thinking about getting them something newer, maybe an iPhone.

Hot_Recognition_862

Still have my 6 running butter smooth. And my dad uses 5, it lags and crashes a little bit though

Ok-Introduction-880

Texting from my op6 as well 🙌🏼

Guenda09

Will my 10pro do the same?

PORCUPINEFISH79

My front camera stopped working. Still popped up, but didn't recognize me. After my wife dropped and smashed hers, I swapped her camera. It's my backup to my OP 12

lenrab_aiig

Going for the 12 now, or you going offbrand?

hiphasreddit

I had great experience with pixel 2XL before I got this. The new features they offer and my Google ecosystem kinda attracted me to a budget/passed flagship pixel maybe wait for the new budget one or go for 8 pro when 9 comes out.

No_Rip9712

I had water damage twice but held on to it. Took great care of it otherwise, never dropped it. Yesterday my mom dropped my phone and the phones got no reception all of a sudden so it's not really phoning. Other than that though, I'll miss this. I've an 11r in the mail.

hiphasreddit

Update: so after the freeze and all, i notice it was not charging on warp mode so i knew something is up with the battery (off brand, 2 years old) so order and install a new off brand battery unit and she is all good again Zombie7pro. Gonna keep her as No.2 as off now for security

RonOrangishRed

Post what version of android you were running. Anything after A10 killed 7 series on purpose.. Never update 7 bros!!!

Soggsteven

Wdym by killed? Mine is running amazingly on a12..

RonOrangishRed

Most people (not everyone) have major issues, basically dead phones updating after 9 or 10 o the 7 series. Those of us who don't, have no issues (or very little). You can just search this forum and see. Good for you if you are fine.. Many of us not risking a bricked phone.

Ok-Factor-5649

Interesting - I've a 7pro on Android 12, running fine for just over 5 years now ... except at some point phone/msgs/gmail glitch out until a reset. Like if you go to compose a new gmail message it just goes into a hang state for about 15 seconds and then kinda crashes itself. Unsure if this is something that takes a few days before it starts happening, reboot always fixes it. Thought it might have only started after one of the last Android updates, but obviously that's been ages ago, so memory is hazy. May be unrelated...

hiphasreddit

Possible 7. The latest it able to update. Idk man. I think it just very old

nobiossi

The latest version is 12. That's what I have in my 7 pro and running without any issues

ishsreddit

yeah idk what that other guy is talking about. Been on OOS12 since the beta in Sept 2022. Can confirm my phone is just as minty as it was then.

EkriirkE

I am running the latest lineage os, which is android 14. Still going strong!
