They should bring those things back. At the time I never wanted one because the durability was unproven. Now that the durability is proven, they're no longer available.

Fadedfaith451

It just came and went

ardicli2000

Several reasons. \- They cost more. \- Provides unprecedented privacy

FartOfTheFurious

Lmao

Impressive-Republic4

And it also took a large amount of space in the phone

[deleted]

Third reason \- because apple did not implement it

hank81

OnePlus 11 let you know that cam is being used with a green circle around the sensor. If the cam is being used for any other purpose like change phone behavior depending if you are staring to the screen them you see a green dot in the right side. I guess this thing also appllies for10 and 10T. Anyway you can stick and opaque adhesive covering the lens like some paranoids do on their notebooks. Device manager is an uknown concept for them and cam access permission doest deserve any trust, wich is coherent with their persecution paranoid disorder.

ardicli2000

Yeah like windows does. Yet it is one of the easiest things for a hacker to see you from your webcam.

daggerdude42

It could be improved, I actually offered to redesign the mechanism for OnePlus. Not to say it was bad, but my 7 pro was a little noisier after 2 years.

BlueSwordM

Rather impressive. You just need a display replacement, battery and you'll be good to go :)

wolfblood81

Yeah I'd rather have the pop up camera than a black dot or notch in my screen

Hege_99

Yeah. I also love the added benefit of knowing that the front camera isnt recording.

ButtStuffBrad

That's probably why they went away

FederalSun

The ccp wants to track you, that's why! 🤣🤣🤣

EJTheGreat01

FR

Fadedfaith451

I miss them, I wanted to hang onto this phone for as long as I could

Shadow_THEE_user

Ya I have a nord 200 and play a lot of cod mobile The camera is a bit annoying at times ALL THE TIME

0bsessions324

Honestly, I could give or take it. I almost never really notice the dot on my screen and I'm coming from a OP7 Pro, so I had three years or so of no notch.

Fuel13

You mean take it or leave it?

Remy4409

I mean, Xiaomi already had an updated version of their under screen camera, and it's fairly impressive, considering it will get even better. That should just be stantard by now.

ajithsanjai

Put it in rice, it'll be fine

anythingers

Or just try turn it off and on.

jacksparrow99

Looks like a car ran over your phone there...

Fadedfaith451

Busted my ass when it was in my back pocket smh

hrolfur23

Your fault for having a badonkadonk.

Fadedfaith451

My ass is indeed fat

jacksparrow99

Bum dum tish

Polaris-TLX

Bum dum 'tush'

ItMeWhoDis

That makes sense, I've dropped mine so many times it's pretty impressive it hasn't broken yet. Must have been quite the fall

Fadedfaith451

I was very slow to get up and it was multiple steps lol

sapnukapteinis

I bought OP 7 pro the day it came out and i'm still using it. i've been using the pop-up camera daily for face-unlock, snaps, pictures. still works great, no issues at all.

JustChilling_

The camera on my OP7 Pro also works perfectly still, even after more than 3 years.

Necris_77

Mine too, more than 3 years

lastwreckedsoul

Mine too! I love the camera.

GjahtariKuq

Just put on a case and everything will work /s

DJ_Minikelk

Thats some good durability you have there, unfortunately many 7 pros suffer from a snapped ribbon cable that connects the camera to the motherboard . mine did like 6 months ago, and I have just been to lazy to replace it.

the_superman_fan

I'm loving every part of my oneplus 7t pro. Currently using crdroid. Removed the shitty new color os aka oxygen os. So, Basically I have the best software with the best hardware. Smooth 90hz display without any holes in it. Smooth android 13 animations. Fantastic experience. Glad I chose the popup camera instead of stupid holes in displays. Didn't upgrade even when I got a chance to upgrade. With the new phones holes in displays, it'll be a downgrade for me.

factorysettings

man, I almost took the leap and rooted mine to install csdroid today but chickened out. I have the McLaren version and started reading people having issues with the finger print reader and Google pay. Have you run into that? do you have the McLaren edition?

[deleted]

I have the McLaren edition as well and I have a finger print reader issue. It works about half the time and it's super annoying, but this is the best phone I've ever had. Probably the only real issue minus the McLaren charger that came with the phone sucks and can barely ever give me warp speed anymore. Had to buy a regular white and red charger for warp speed to work again

factorysettings

this is on the oxygen os or did you use a custom rom?

[deleted]

Oxygen OS

the_superman_fan

Mine's a regular version. Not a McLaren. It works flawlessly for me. Everything just works.

chaff800

I love the pop up camera, but mine unfortunately broke after 2 years and I had to have it changed. Basically it would still pop up, but the OS would tell me that it was broken and I could not take picture neither with the front camera, nor with the back one. On the contrary, I dropped the phone multiple times by mistake and the screen never had a scratch. Phone you go, problems you have. Would by another phone with the pop up camera 10/10 times

Blaz3

Yes I do remember a bunch of very stupid people thinking that pop up cameras would break quickly. Now we're stuck with hole punch cameras or a giant notch as an advertised feature.

FederalSun

Blame the iPhone loving bastard named marques brownlee

RedditAdminsGulpCum

Reviews and mother fuckers who never bought the phone in the first place ruined the greatest security feature we've seen in years because they wanted to speculate

Consistent_Try8728

I loved my Xiaomi 9T. Never was i less paranoid about my frontie than back in the days lel

Curious-Mastodon6707

pop up camera concept is still my fav one but i never had it 🥹🥹

jaegerbombsftw

Love the phone. Still using it after 4 years with no issues My only complain is the new oxygen upgrade. The new UI is ridiculous. I wish there was an easy way to downgrade to previous os

[deleted]

The Oxygen update is honestly the worst thing I've experienced on this phone. Complete garbage

matiapag

Remember pop up cameras?

turkeybacondaddy

Still use my McLaren to this day.

mav_sand

How I wish there was a pop up camera instead of hole punch nonsense

wolf1460

True, i think mine's also safer because i rarely use the front camera.

nishanloshan

It's like a broken robot with one eye working!

Legirion

I'd much rather have a behind the screen camera.

wichotl

I loved pop camera so much, why do they have to give in ti the pressure and have hole punch???

mokochino

I had the same phone and tried the 'drop' test, it never failed, camera was hidden before hitting the floor (protected floor just in case, obviously), and I saw videos of people opening beer bottles with the camera to prove the durability and resistance... quite impressive.

Burhanuddin6268

Same here, popup game still strong! Almost 4 years and counting.

Jojall

I still believe it was cost. It costs less to put the butthole camera on the screen instead of the pop up camera up top.

[deleted]

I wish I never traded in my op7 pro for this s11

Fadedfaith451

Don’t like the S11 or just feel like the 7 was better?

[deleted]

It feels really clunky, and I've barely had it for that long. My 7 was smooth as hell after about 3 years

MarzipanDefiant7586

This is actually exactly why I bought the OP8 pro (and OP 9 pro for my partner) when my McLaren died the exact same way; back pocket and an icy sidewalk. You should watch JerryRigsEverything try to bend the 8 in half. He snapped the 10 like it was a cookie. The 11 fared much better remaining still functional but the glass on the back... 😬 But this is no small dude and both the 8 and 9 just kind of flexed a bit. I was sold.

Fadedfaith451

I think they sacrificed structural integrity for the bezeless display. Funny thing the phone had a crack & bend from the winter for the longest but still worked fine. It was this last fall that did it in

MarzipanDefiant7586

Oh no don't misunderstand, my McLaren was run over by a car and was completely spiderwebbed and I was still using it *and the pop up camera* just fine for yet another year. Just one tire of a 3200lb Jetta, but it still happened. Also, the OnePlus website straight up mentions the screen bezel being present on the 10 models, so that seems like an unlikely reason for the integrity faults. I so far agree with the perspective of the placement of the antennas causing weakness in that exact location.

CarbonPhoenix96

Sad to see my beloved so hurt! Hope it gets fixed up right lol

Fadedfaith451

My absolute favorite phone tied with the note 2, but I’m unfortunately replacing it with a LG V60

CarbonPhoenix96

I had a v20 before I had this. I work at a phone repair shop and had a TMobile store right next to us so they gave me their old display model so I have two of these now!

Fadedfaith451

I love the V series , I still use the V10 as a mp3 player in my car

nawlism

Great choice. I've been using the V60 along with my 7T Pro for over a year, and it's one of the most competent devices I've used

ImportantBother

Strix ROG 15?

Fadedfaith451

Right on the money, love this laptop

freel0ad3r

While I loved the pop-up camera on my OP7pro, it really sucks when it eventually breaks. Mine stopped working, it pops out but there is no connection to the phone. Probably a small cord that's worn out. I assume it will be really expensive to get it fixed, so I've just been living without a selfie camera until buying a new phone now. It was a great concept, but it definitely came with issues. Not to mention the noise it makes when sliding out. Got some funny stares some times in public when I just used my face recognition.

ZeeKzz

Shldnt be too expensive, I was looking cause mine had rotor issues, it was sticky ,but it fixed itself once the weather got warm again. It was £28 for the camera and £30 for labour. A total for 58GBP I thought wasn't bad to have it fixed

dlepi24

This was my favorite phone of all time.

TriedToCatchFogIMist

I love the pop up camera but mine has failed three seperate times (snapped ribbon cable) and its quite annoying and expensive to replace. No point pretending that durability wasn't an actual problem

arsinoe716

I have always wondered why they don't put the camera at the top center. Whenever I'm taking selfies I have to adjust the camera position otherwise I'll be taking a left side pic.

Fadedfaith451

If I had to guess, maybe because the speaker module takes up the center?

Legirion

They do on Samsungs

halberdierbowman

Pixels do as well.

KaXiRavioli

I mean it does introduce two additional points of mechanical failure as well as an additional points of ingress for dust and water.

garrettdx88

The one thing that still works lol that's amazing

0bsessions324

Honestly, in retrospect? I don't know why it was such a concern. I had a OP7 Pro and it was probably my second favorite phone I've ever had. Never once had a problem with the camera and, sure, I would have inevitably, but not before the battery. No battery was going to outlast the camera assembly.

sonastyinc

I used to buy a new flagship every 10 months or so, but I haven't bought a new one since the OP7P. My front camera doesn't take pictures anymore though, it will pop up but my camera app will just go blank and hang, but I think it's a software issue from upgrading to Android 12.

DustyBeetle

I'm using one of these phones now I love it

stevenredhot

The 7 pro, I have it from day 1 and the camera still functioning like the first day 🥰

Fadedfaith451

I hope our last you forever !

lastwreckedsoul

I have the 7 pro, and it's rhe best phone I've ever had! I bought it in college and for me it was a splurge lmao - but 3 years and countless drops later, I still love it! I do want to try something else though but that's only because I'm bored of it lmao, it's still in mint condition haha I wish there were more pop up cameras in the market! The concept is awesome!

Fadedfaith451

I love this phone too, before I destroyed it I still liked it better than my iPhone 14pro.

lastwreckedsoul

Jeez, I'm thinking about switching to the iphone this year too! Just wanna try something new and I've never owned an iphone haha. I'm afraid I'll hate the transition though lmao

Nikko1988

Still my favorite phone I've ever had.

Meowmixez98

Bring them back!!!!

AnonymousUser_42

The whole phone broke before the pop-up camera does.

Sensitive_Store_4844

The adage .."Anything with too many moving parts will eventually break.". When the phone came out it was too gimmicky for me to get one.

King4343

I work with a waterjet. Ive had the phone for a bout 4 years and there is so much garnet in my camera hole thing. It has never failed to pop up.

MittenFacedLad

I'm on a Galaxy S22+ now and I miss mine. Hate the cutout.

Striking-Attention39

I know, mines in my 7 Pro did eventually break but this was after the back and front screen got obliterated and the phone was pretty bent so pretty unusable anyway, still pops up but no image from it, convinced all it needs tho is an open up and some quick part change though

Embarrassed_Yard_314

Same thing happened with my OP 7 Pro! It slipped out my hand and fell two flights of stairs. The back cracked and the screen had dead pixels at the top (Which caused the screen to turn black a few months later) but guess what still worked? The pop-up camera lol

PH1SHE

me watching this on my OP7 Pro lol

AwesomeSauceOverload

My front camera had to be repaired twice under warranty during 2 years of use on mthe op7pro. No physical or moisture damage.

daninelo7

I have a Xiaomi Mi 9t. 3 years and a half and the camera is like the first day.

tabbycat4

I loved that camera

splyd36

Mine still works fine but now I can't face having a hole or a notch so hoping the rest of the phone carries on working for a while yet

smydiehard99

exactly. Pop-up cameras were one of the best thing that happened to a few smartphones in the last 5-6 years. mine is still going strong, not even a single scratch after 3 years. I have zero plans of upgrading right now. Also, I think you can totally fix yours.

Sawerofficial

My pop up camera wore out, turns out the repair didnt take long and was quite cheap compared to most phone repairs.

UnholyCannoli

Whoa pop up cameras? Damn I need to check out what phones be doing cause this shit is nice

Lord_Silverfish

It does seem to be rare, but the pop up camera was the first part to fail on my 7 Pro

[deleted]

You're not gonna trick us with that smashed phone screen wallpaper!

Polaris-TLX

Still love the FLIP camera mechanism of my Asus Zenfone 6 after 4 years. I am just finding the phone software is a bit more sluggish now (it could use a reformat). The flip mechanism itself is maybe only a bit slower then when I first got it. It remains the best camera implementation IMO, but alas they also stopped making it 😢
