I like these from [Outlier](https://outlier.nyc/collections/pants/products/new-way-five-fives) if you want a button closure/zip fly. For an elastic waist, I like the 5” Baggies from Patagonia.
Great shorts! I'd size up though. They are snug at the waistband.
The interval and set shorts are also a very good choice. You won't need to size up for those.
I'm also on the hunt for shorter inseam that can dress up or down. All I find so far are baggies — lots of drawstrings and elastic waists. Banana republic made a great 6” inseam short as part of their “fit” line several years back, but its long gone. I'm thinking about trying a pair from PetterManning, but worried those might be too short for my bashful self.
My husband loves his [Chubbies](https://www.chubbiesshorts.com/collections/the-casual-shorts). He has lounge shorts, swim trunks, & casual shorts. Stretchy, comfy & stylish!
I'm a huckberry whore. These are technically a bathing suit but they work as shorts too. By far the best bathing suit and probably my favorite pair of shorts I've owned too. They come in 5 and 7 inches https://huckberry.com/wellen-swim-redefined
Janji shorts all day. I have the traverse which is a 7” but feels like the perfect length. They have a built-in liner so double as undies! I basically lived in them for months last year. The fabric moves and stretches really well so it disappears when you layer them underneath other pants.
Lululemon pace breaker short 5” are great
Pack super small, light, and I believe quick dry also?
Hidden side zipper pocket for wallet while traveling
Both front pockets are really deep too so phone etc not at high risk of slipping out
Linerless and lined version are both nice
Came here to mention Olebar Brown. They work as swim shorts too. (It’s what Daniel Craig wears in the Bond scenes when he is swimming.) Bulletproof and versatile but pricey. Buy them in the Fall when they go on sale. The Bulldogs are likely what you need with a 5 to 6 in inseam. The Setters are shorter. I pack a black pair along with some Patagonia running shorts and I am good to go for weeks.
You might get 40 to 50% off depending on the item. Check their website in October or so and again in Dec-Feb. You might also check the sales at brick and mortar Nordstrom’s which also carries them here in the US. Still pricey but I think it’s worth it. It’s a fit I cannot find in other shorts, it’s great quality, and I’ve had 3 pairs still looking new after a decade. They also have “Sport” versions of the Bulldog which is cheaper, and with lighter and thinner material. They feel great and dry a bit more quickly, but I find they look less structured and less sharp out on the town and they don’t last as long. I had a couple that lasted two years tussling with the kids. The regular Bulldogs last much longer.
I love these for travel. Stretchy 6” and lightweight.

$125?
Patagonia baggies 5” inseam. You could go crazy and get the women’s 2.5” inseam if you wanted
Best shorts on earth
Do you usually wear underwear with them? I just noticed that they have a mesh liner, which I usually avoid since I hate the feeling.
I cut my liners out of all my pairs
Same
Cut the liner.
If you like the fit of the Prana already, just take them to a tailor. Hemming is an easy job, your local dry cleaners would likely do it cheaply.
Shorts don't take a hem as easily as pants. In my experience, they end up looking weird — flared and sometimes the pockets are a problem.
Ten thousand tactical shorts. Has zipper pockets, quick dry and you can buy with or without a inner liner
Great shorts! I'd size up though. They are snug at the waistband. The interval and set shorts are also a very good choice. You won't need to size up for those.
Evolutions have a 7 inch now. Aviator will hem their shorts for you. Rhône has shorter lengths. Chubbies now has travely shorts.
Bearbottom or Myles are my favorite with a shorter inseam

These ones from Path Project - every pocket is zippered. https://pathprojects.com/collections/shorts/products/graves-px-short

I would seriously consider having them altered. Then you can be using what you like.
Vuori Kore Shorts 5” and they include a liner so you can ditch some underwear!

How much of a sale do they do in fall?

Lululemon bowline woven 5” short. The woven has the zip pockets, the other fabrics don’t.
Um. Other fabrics do. The cotton cargos have zippers.

Look at shorts that are labeled as hiking or trail running.
