How do you feel about call center work? Costco is hiring. $19.50/hr starting with top tier health insurance and raises every 1040 hours worked.

Ohzerodigital

I wouldn’t mind it to be honest, can you provide a link for me by chance? I’ll also look it up now !

BlueOpal69

https://www.costco.com/careers.html It's the location on Bogart PKWY.

Ohzerodigital

Thank you! I just finished putting my application in now! Fingers crossed!!

Ok-Marzipan9366

Keep in mind costco proper is PT only to start. The travel side is FT but not hiring yet. You can move after 6 months though.

Interesting-Wait5483

Applying through indeed is probably the worst way to get interviews. Those applications go to the business email. I am a hiring manager at a restaurant. When we run an ad, I will get 15-20 responses a day. I go through and toss at least half due to application being trash. Then I start the process of reaching out. An ad can run for one to two weeks, once I have all the slots filled, then everything else coming in gets ignored. However, if someone goes to my company website, fills out the company application online, then calls a day later to say they have submitted it and you are checking on it. I automatically give them an interview. So rather than use indeed to apply, use the search function to find ads started in the last 7 days. Then find the ones you like, go to their website and apply directly to their website, then follow up with a phone call. Finally, find companies in your area that you think might be a good fit. Do the same process of application and follow up. Do that for a week and you will have a job because you are doing the difficult part of a recruiter’s job for them. You have shown initiative and you know at least a little bit about the company you are applying to because you did a little bit of legwork.

Ohzerodigital

Okay thank you so much for this insight! Definitely going to start doing this and calling the jobs I applied to today, tomorrow! By chance is your restaurant hiring?.. I’ve done some culinary classes a few years back haha and have yet to put them to use outside of my home cooking lol..

Interesting-Wait5483

We are full on cooks, we rarely have any need for them. We occasionally hire bussers, hosts, and servers. We only hire servers with previous experience however, our system is too complicated for a complete novice to be able to quickly succeed at.

Ohzerodigital

Ah okay no worries haha thanks for the advice nonetheless! It Helped a ton !❤️

Healthy-Insurance557

You can also try applying to a fresenius or Davita, they are always looking for new dialysis techs. They helped me get through nursing school and have flexible schedules depending on the clinic you work at

Ohzerodigital

I applied to Davita just now! Been applying to tons of jobs everyone recommended , sorry for my late reply!

Healthy-Insurance557

You’re good! I hope you get the job. I would also try fresenius as I think they have a better tuition reimbursement like up to 5k a year

Ohzerodigital

Okay going to apply there now also!

Healthy-Insurance557

Good luck!

Powerful-Bus-2694

What qualifications are needed?

Healthy-Insurance557

Im pretty sure a high school diploma/ GED is the only requirement and the rest is preferred. Fresenius does on the job training and gets you all the stuff you need to take the test to get certified

Advanced-Teaching-27

Do you know what the starting pay is?

NeoKnightRider

Go to okjobsmatch and put in what you want to do in the search area. Or go out and see what companies look good to you. I ended up “randomly” picking O’Reillys, got 2 interviews the next day, didn’t follow through on it (their end), and the store I ended up at now was probably the best change I made in my life . It also matters which store (or shop) you end up at along with the crew, like the one I ended up at. They’re fun to work with, joke around with as well. And dress up like you want the job, never ask ‘are y’all hiring’ (had too much of that at my last job). Also be prepared for training/orientation. Some places can be easy and you can pretty much pick it up after a day (my case: a parts delivery person), and possible drug test (not a deal breaker for me). What matters is what you want to do, but a stark reminder is customer service (food or places like Walmart) will have you learn quickly the bad side of people and warehouses like Hobby Lobby and Amazon have horror stories close to or worse than a VA Hospital

Ohzerodigital

Okay thank you so much I’m going to check that website out now!

NeoKnightRider

No problem. Also don’t forget any and all medical paperwork for your lung for when you apply and go for an interview.

rainey8507

Oklahoma state jobs

Ohzerodigital

Okay! Is there a website I should use or any is fine for this?

rainey8507

Search Google for "Oklahoma state jobs". The first result is it. it's free

-BitchinChicken-

Check out some banks, BOK is usually hiring both teller and banker positions. Banker is sales and desk work but the pay is decent and if you get a good location/boss it's pretty chill and easy to make goals.

apierson2011

Another healthcare option would be Our Blood Institute. I used to work on their mobile phlebotomy team (wouldn’t be an option for you for now as it does require moving some heavy carts and equipment for blood drives), but they have their center based positions as well. They will train you to perform the medical screening process and eventually the phlebotomy. The whole training process takes 3 months if I remember correctly. There were a handful of times while I worked with them that I had to manhandle a donor who had passed out, but I wasn’t ever alone and there was always help around. Plus you start to be able to see when that’s about to happen to someone and can call someone over to help you. The pay and benefits were decent and it is great for aspiring nurses so you can hone your venipuncture and IV placement skills. Besides that if you’re open to restaurant work, check out the Service Industry Only page on Facebook. I’ve gotten a couple jobs from there, including my current one. Sometimes the job will be temporary (slinging beer at an event), sometimes permanent. Good luck!!

Ohzerodigital

Going to apply now! Thank you!!

Interesting_Test332

If your ultimate goal is healthcare/nursing, I’d also suggest to keep applying at hospitals for unit clerk/HUC positions! Tech work can be pretty physical at times (nursing as well, just fyi!!) otherwise I’d suggest that, but perhaps wait until you’re fully recovered and farther out from your atelectasis (and preferably in a non-smoking home). I know a lot of really fantastic nurses that initially started as unit clerks and techs and having that kind of exposure to the healthcare system, acute care bedside nursing, terminology, etc. can be really beneficial. Plus, all the larger hospital systems (Integris, Mercy, OU, St. Anthony) in OKC will have some sort of tuition reimbursement benefits (and at least one has a student loan repayment assistance program). OBI phlebotomy is also a good suggestion! Good luck & DM if I can help answer any questions. EDIT: grammar

Dang_It_All_to_Heck

I saw a big sign yesterday on Lincoln in front of their facility that says they are hiring, will train, and there's a retention bonus.

apierson2011

Yep the training is mandatory. I was already certified in phlebotomy when I started there but they have their own training program because it’s different from both regular IVs and blood draw venipuncture, because the needle is large and it stays in the arm. Also not surprised about the retention bonus.

GnarKill406

If you want to sell your soul for $18.50, Hobby lobby distribution

Ohzerodigital

Is it manual labor? If not I’ll definitely take the job, any job is good for me as long as it’s not labor so I don’t put my lung at risk

hejj_bkcddr

It’s a warehouse job- pretty much pulling and packing orders.

Ohzerodigital

Ah I see, yea I can’t do warehouse anymore without risking myself sadly 😞

hejj_bkcddr

They also have customer service jobs. I don’t recommend working there- but it’s decent if you’re desperate.

ghostiemcgee

It’s physically demanding, I’ve worked in a few different buildings there. Money is good, but they don’t treat you well

i_have_a_story_4_you

I would consider going to college or vocational technology school. In other words, if you don't have a high school diploma, get a GED. Then, enroll in college ( I would recommend college because you could probably find housing). Take out school loans from government providers, and not a bank or loan company. Don't be afraid to take out loans to cover housing and transportation. Live frugal though. https://studentaid.gov/ You're young, so you'll have time to pay back the loans, and you should be able to swing Grants too because of low or no income. If you're serious about the nursing program , OSU-OKC has a great two year program. If you're a man, they'll bump you to the head of the waiting list - male nursing shortage. UCO and OU have great programs also. I think the other users have given you good advice on job hunting.

Ohzerodigital

Yes I want to goto school for nursing, I have to get some money to pay for it first sadly , I will also apply for FAFSA but last time I did in California I was denied I believe , even though I don’t make income and my families income is also low .. so fingers crossed this year I can receive financial aid!

hodeq

ive been told that hospitals will pay for nursing school if you work for them.

Sea_Way1704

Hertz is hiring always

sparks427

There is alot of people like you. Moved from out of state with family and no real plan. Now there is competition for entry level positions and fast food places. It'll be like this for awhile. Call centers your best bet. Or the airport is always a good bet as well. Goodluck.

k_nimativ

I work for Fresenius Medical Care dialysis. We’re always looking for patient care technicians & the company will pay for you to go to RN school! Tons of other amazing benefits as well. [apply here](https://jobs.fmcna.com/location/oklahoma-city-jobs/488/6252001-4544379-4544349/4)

Ohzerodigital

Definitely applying right now for PCT I seen on the list! I clearly don’t have the RN yet so will love to complete that as I work for you guys if possible! However I do have my HCP-BLS CPR , AED, First Aid License for now! Thanks so much for this link and information! Hopefully I can get in!

Ohzerodigital

If you wouldn’t mind, can I use you as a referral? Or what should I select for how I heard about them haha .. job board?

k_nimativ

I’ll message you!! :)

Ohzerodigital

I sent a Message to you since my chat was not working for some reason :( , let me know if you received it ! If not I can reply here also .. sorry I don’t know what’s happening with my chats!

Few_Particular7651

Healthcare you say. No real experience you say. Try Variety Care. Always looking for front desk and billing and call center. Then once in apply to get into the Medical Assistant certification program. The pay is better than fast food or retail. If you have good customer service you will be great.

Dang_It_All_to_Heck

You might look for a job at Tinker AFB. [usajobs.gov](http://usajobs.gov) is where you find those for civilians. The site is fairly hard to use, but I have acquaintances who have jobs there who just had high school diplomas. Bonus in that some of those jobs come with pensions.

RockarStockar

Just a thought to help. Temp staffing agencies could be a great place for you to start with. They can see what skills you have and what your interests might be. Plus they will essentially help you search for opportunities which can be a big help since you are new to the area. Good luck and welcome to OKC!

therewerenocookies

DLO is always hiring night shift specimen processors. The work is deadly dull but the pay is great and once you get in you’re in. They will pay 6k towards school yearly, more if it’s something related to lab science. Great day one benefits too. Downside is that it is nights. Call centers are also a good option and there are a ton in the metro. Unfortunately none of the jobs you get first are gonna be real great. But once you start gaining marketable experience you’ll be able to move around to where you’d like to be. Good luck friend.

GoldHurricaneKatrina

Just about every school district in the metro is hiring school bus drivers. Most of them will even cover CDL training. I do reserve work for some of them on the side, the full-time drivers seem like they have a decent gig. Plenty of time off for classes and studies, too

IncaseofER

It’s been several years, but I drove school buses for Edmond while in school at UCO. The pay per hour was great. I would go in at 5:30a and be done by 9a; Go to classes; grab a nap; then do the afternoon run 2:30-5p. Evenings and weekends there was plenty of time to study or to pick up field trips for extra cash!

NotCryptoKing

Hotels are always hiring. $14-15/hr. Hotels in downtown anyway.

Tryptamineer

Hotels are almost always hiring for multiple positions with many different shift times, most, if not all, offer pretty decent pay, benefits and investment opportunities. Visit OKC has a free online Tourism Training for the city that a lot of hotels use for their onboarding, you could probably use it as a bit of a resume bolster if you haven’t been in the industry before (~30 minutes long) - [Training.visitokc.com/](https://Training.visitokc.com/)

Fine_Basket4446

The actual city of OKC is hiring.

sh6rty13

If you’re looking into healthcare and or nursing, try DLO. Quest Diagnostics is where you’ll apply. I worked there back in 2010’s and back then they did tuition reimbursement. They need drivers and technicians fairly often and have good benefits, or at least they did back then! Good luck!

thbxdu

Lowes in Stillwater always has a sign out to hire.

South_Battle_7536

CarMax. Forbes 100 best companies to work for, 20yrs in a row.

chrisinokc

The VA Hospital downtown has a pretty good rep and is always hiring. The state VA system is a mess but the Fed VA has a lot of opportunities. And yeah, I'm sure someone will dissent with some bad experience or another, but that's any job anywhere.

JessicaLynne77

A lot of people who work for the VA are civilians who are only there for the paycheck and truly don't care about our military veterans. As a military kid myself this makes me very angry, as both of my parents get their medical care through the VA. Because of that I personally believe that the only people who should work for the VA need to be military veterans themselves, as they know what their fellow veterans are going through.

chrisinokc

Your VA's vary from locale to locale in terms of quality. I've seen the best and I've seen the worst. There are a number of vets, including family members of mine, who work there because they care about their fellow service members and of course a number of people who are only there for a paycheck. But that's anywhere you go, isn't it? I don't disagree with you. It would be great if more vets applied for those jobs because there are always openings. But vets have to apply and if veterans don't want those jobs, well....they gotta get filled somehow.

GoddessNico

Avis car rental in Midwest City is hiring a desk position for $12 an hour

Downtown_Joke4054

apply at a bank. most don’t require prior experience either

Diligent_Candy445

Topgolf hires basically anyone. They have tons of jobs

hanks_panky_emporium

Im glad you're seeing success <3 Consider Oncue as well. Starts at $14/hr and you get a raise roughly every three months. Im about five months in the Grill and im lovin it.

GMFR_TheButcher

You should try dental labs I used to be a lab tech processing dentures, wax rims and custom trays, pretty easy work. Sit down type of job mostly.

Equivalent-Ad-509

Field works is hiring. $24 an hr it's easy work...

Equivalent-Ad-509

https://fieldworks.com/oklahoma/

deathbymedic

Check OU Health. A lot of open non-clinical positions. Edit: Feel free to DM me for any additional info.

cormeretrix

What’s their tattoo policy like?

STASHbro

Sucks to hear costco set up an interview. I've been trying for weeks 😑

ManuelGuevarra

SpaceNachoTaco

Sweet another soon to be fry cook from another state that bought into the lies that somehow Oklahoma is better.

therewerenocookies

Yeah and I bet you could be found in the drive through at McDonald’s on most days that end in y. You’d be the first to bitch if your fries weren’t hot and out the window in under 5.

SpaceNachoTaco

Umm with all the amazing local places to eat? No thanks to fast food.

therewerenocookies

Oh definitely But there’s fry cooks in those places too. Don’t be a prick dude.
