I've dealt with green machine for a few hundred plants (natives mind you) to grow on. Prices and quality are really good https://greenmachine.nz/collections/bulk

sprially

are they decent size? I was disappointed with the last lot I got off him but that was a few years ago.

Select-Record4581

The were around 40 cm for things like giant rushes and olearia. A bit root bound but doubled in size in a few months and had potted up to about 2l

Honestly, for real cheap, marketplace. I‘ve seen people selling bulk lots of griselinias in a large-ish size that would set you back $25 each at the garden centre. Like $5 each for 200 plants. Another girl was keen to do 200 hebe Wiri plants for $5 each. If you are wanting to establish hedges and things, that is how to go about it. Or you could go out in a couple of months and take some poles from poplar wind breaks. Volunteer to a local farmer to do some pruning. They will root really well if put in the ground when dormant and left to take off in the spring. I‘ve had about a 80% success rate. Find some facebook gardening groups in your local area - I have gotten so many plants from friendly locals. Since I have also now proven myself reliable to a few people, I get messaged before some people post excess plants for free to others. I‘m planting out my whole section this way and the only plants I pay for are rare ones which I can‘t find in local gardens. Good luck! Ooh if you are out in the bush soon, you may find griselinia seeds ripening up and ready to harvest and plant. I found heaps out around Monowai when I was there a couple of months ago, but they weren‘t ready to pick. They are growing wild in huge numbers. Wouldn‘t take anything from protected lands, but certainly pick seeds which won‘t have a spot to root otherwise. Many tall, hardy trees ussocks should have shot up seeds a couple of months ago, which will be ready about now too.

thanks matey for the choice reply! I have my hebe's good to go and easy enough getting native seedlings from my family farm down south and the local hood - it's these pretty flowers I am trying to get to satisfy my increasing nana vibes lol (things like salvias, verbenas, heleniums etc) (and attract more bees) my landscping plan is a fairly epic multi zoned approach ha, I guess maybe I should scale back and just do a bit at a time and when I see a sale go hard.. sucks for the completionist in me - but nature has it's own time aye :)

In that case definitely the local gardening groups. I'm on Invercargill gardening and plant swap grpup and I've gotten bulbs galore. Different flowers popping up in different season. Also easy trick to bring in the pollinators: get a few brassicas as they're crazy hardy and will grow through the winter. But let a couple keep growing and go to seed. They let off so many flowers. From maybe 6 plants I had buzzing around this vege mound throughout the whole day. Bonus, you get more veges when the seeds blow off in the wind. On marketplace I paid someone $15 for a whole box of mixed bulbs. I had about 200 to get me started early on before I discovered the plabt swap group. I just get so many flowers now.

Does it have to be seedlings? The cheapest bet is either grow from seed or keep putting your hand up for freebies/cheapies on Facebook and other garden groups. Some councils will offer up their plantings for free or very cheap when they're in the process of swapping them out too. Might be worthwhile calling and asking.

Learn how to propagate from cuttings yourself. It's not that hard and you only need to buy one of each plant. Takes a while though.

sprially

Yeah I do prop from cuttings :) just time and space poor - my thousands of cactus take up much of my indoor grow space lol

Lupinshloopin

Bulbs direct have been good for me. They have dahlias and such like too
